What's the Time? To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, IWC Schaffhausen presents a limited edition of the Portugieser Chronograph. The timepiece is powered by the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, a robust and precise mechanical chronograph movement in a classic column-wheel design. Free yourself from everything static with this intricate creation. The necklace is a composition boasting a powerful visual impact that unfolds around a 19.27-carat Ceylon sapphire, producing a striking sensation of motion. Inspired by the dresses of the whirling dervishes (garments that flow freely during the spinning Sufi whirling ritual), this necklace forms a swirling series of curves and counter-curves. Computer Aided Design (CAD) was used for its extreme precision, which was required to conceive a three-dimensional structure of one piece to transcribe the creative concept behind the necklace. To ensure that these precious swirls sit as close to the skin as possible, the artisans have integrated tiny invisible articulations into the central motif. In this dazzling necklace, stylisation and figuration flawlessly interact with one another. The feline’s head is realistic from the tip of its nose to its almond-shaped emerald eyes and pointed ears. The coat is pixelated into a cloud of geometric shapes and spotted with onyx. A masterpiece, the panther appears to watch over a set of three aquamarines totalling 20.33 carats with a powerful chromatic intensity. Fine touches of lapis lazuli punctuate the composition and play on the contrast. In 1914, Louis Cartier borrowed the panther’s coat to decorate a platinum, diamond and onyx watch and, since then, it has been used in many other creations and has become a symbol of the maison. With a reversible structure interplaying colours and motifs, this necklace pays homage to traditional Mughal jewellery from India. Mughals were known for exquisite jewellery items made from gold and precious stones. In the Dohara necklace, one side bursts light from the fire of diamonds, white gold and sculpted rock crystals. On the other, an explosion of red, green and blue lacquer elements refers to an emblematic Cartier colour combination. The centre features three oval brilliant-cut diamonds visible on both sides. Each pavilion is set in a translucent rock crystal motif that harmonises the volume at the back and leaves the diamonds visible – the finished creation gently drapes over the skin. www.ohlalamag.net

This necklace has a line of Ceylon sapphires, and everything is built around it. On either side, sapphire and emerald patterns form a symmetrical grid punctuated by graphic onyx details that produce an almost kinetic effect. This structure reveals an organisation in distinct planes, like architecture. The overall effect is a chromatic signature of the peacock motif by Louis Cartier. This creation combines geometry, optical effects and volume. The 18 sapphires and 36 emeralds were cut into triangles by the maison lapidaries and then placed one by one in motifs assembled on several levels in a setting designed to emphasise the aesthetics of a necklace that slips effortlessly over the skin. 40

The architecture of the shapes and the choice of this singular solar diamond make this a fiercely Cartier creation. Made with a 4.15-carat, yellow-brown fancy colour diamond with an original diamond cut, this centrepiece adds a dazzling detail. All around, triangular white diamonds form a fractal structure split into symmetrical fragments. The mirror polish of the metal emphasises the void like a graphic line, adding depth to the design and a sense of levitation around the stone. Powerful lines and the flow of light are combined to enhance the brilliance of this rare stone.

GLITTERS Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) returns for its 20th edition this month with more than 30,000 local and international visitors expected to attend.

ue to be held over approximately 30,000sq/m at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, the event will run from February 5 to 11 and will feature more than 500 brands from 10 countries. This year sees the participation of the Indian and Turkish pavilions as well as 10 exhibitors under the Qatari Designers Pavilion. New brands taking part are: Key Gems, AlMajid Home, Renee Jewels, Naylah, Kooheji Jewellery and Hessa Jewels, by Qatari Designer Hessa, who started as part of the Qatari Designers Initiative. The ‘Big 8’ for this year’s exhibition were recently announced as Al Fardan Jewellery, Al Majed Jewellery & Watches, Ali Bin Ali Luxury, Amiri Gems, Fifty One East, Al Muftah Jewellery, Blue Salon and Bulgari. Special pieces debuting at DJWE 2024 include Tiffany & Co. 2024 Bird
on a Pearl and the bespoke piece ‘High Jewellery’ necklace from Bulgari. A new range of ‘Qatar Limited Edition’ watches and new jewellery brands from Al Majed Jewellery & Watches and Blue Salon will also be on show. The event will feature the return of the Qatari Designers Initiative as well as a series of workshops with jewellery and watch experts. And Education Above All, a staple at the DJWE for many instalments, will be back with collaborations with Brazilian jeweller and designer Silvia Furmanovich and Qatari Designers. The exhibition has been promoted in a stunning campaign film featuring supermodel Irina Shayk and former professional footballer and current sports broadcaster, Thierry Henry, with an incredible original score from the Qatari composer Dana Al Fardan.

he Ladies’ Nautilus Haute Joaillerie model 7118/1452G features a dial, case, crown and bracelet entirely paved with 1,500 brilliant-cut diamonds (6.53 carats) and 876 rubies (6.58 carats). The refined snow-setting technique was chosen for this model to achieve incomparable sparkle and radiance while the presence of rubies on the bezel, dial and central bracelet links enhances the iconic design which includes a porthole-inspired case and integrated bracelet featuring three rows of links. Brilliant-cut diamonds set in the Nautilus wave pattern distinguish the white gold dial, while easy legibility is ensured by ogival-shaped, white gold hour-markers set with rubies and hour/minute hands featuring white luminescent coating. The 35.2mm-diameter case, also crafted in white gold, houses a selfwinding 26-330S calibre and meticulous finishing is visible through a transparent sapphire caseback. A patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches is used for the bracelet ensuring optimum comfort. The new model joins the collection’s rose and white gold versions and is also available as Reference 7118/1451G-001 with diamonds and blue
sapphires and Reference 7118/1453G-001 with diamonds and emeralds. The second offering to highlight is the 7010/1R-013 which boasts a purple lacquered, wave patterned dial, 32mm-diameter gold case and rose gold bracelet. The model is also available in a new rose gold version featuring a purple lacquered dial and a composite strap with matching fabric motif (Reference 7010R-013). Ensuring excellent legibility in any light, the ogival-shaped hour-markers, applied Arabic numerals and alphastyle hour/minute hands bear a white luminescent coating while the date is displayed at three o’clock. A row of 46 Top Wesselton Pure brilliant-cut diamonds (0.8-carat) dazzles along the bezel while the bracelet, with its patented Patek Philippe fold-over clap, displays contrasting finishes – satin-brushed with a polished bevelled edge on the outer links and polished on the inner links. This model is also the first Patek Philippe ladies’ watch to feature the new lockable adjustment system. The mechanical components of the quartz E 23-250 S C calibre are finished to the same high standards as those of Patek Philippe mechanical calibres.

hese timepieces reflect the technical and performance-oriented design that has been the hallmark of IWC TOP GUN since the brand introduced the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN back in 2007. Part of the Pilot’s Watches collection, the 41 TOP GUN Ceratanium is the first 41mm chronograph with a case, pushers and crown made in this ground-breaking material, which is light and robust like titanium and hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic. In addition to these outstanding material properties, the most striking feature of Ceratanium is its matteblack colour, which IWC and Pantone have specified as ‘IWC Ceratanium’. The dark and slightly metallic shade results from a unique manufacturing process: it develops on the surface of the material when the case components are fired at high temperatures in a kiln. Subdued white print and luminescence on the black dial and black hands underscore the stealthy, allblack design. The IWCmanufactured 69385 calibre chronograph movement is visible through the tinted sapphire glass caseback and the timepiece comes with a black rubber strap with textile inlay. The Big Pilot’s Watch 43 TOP GUN in black zirconium oxide ceramic (Ref. IW329801) is the first of its kind in a 43mm case. The model features a case made of black zirconium oxide ceramic, a titanium caseback, as well as black dial and hands. The engineering ceramic used for the case offers maximum protection against scratches. IWC and Pantone have specified the black ceramic colour as ‘IWC Jet Black’. The timepiece is powered by the IWCmanufactured 82100 calibre movement. The Pellaton winding system has been fitted with components made of virtually wear-free ceramic and builds up a power reserve of 60 hours. A soft-iron inner case protects the movement from the effects of magnetic fields, while the front glass is secured to remain in place even during a sudden drop in air pressure. The integrated EasX-CHANGE system allows for effortless changing of the green textile strap.

nspired by the beauty and harmony of blossoms, the pieces showcase the virtuosity of the maison’s diamond craftsmanship, exhibiting some of the world’s most enchanting High Jewellery, jewellery and timepieces. Founded in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has long drawn inspiration from nature and, in 1970, the Rose de Noël collection was launched – named for the unique, winter-blooming Christmas Rose. Originally in pink coral, yellow gold and diamonds, the pieces have since embraced joyful variations, moving with the times to marry the sparkle of diamonds with the reflections of white or grey mother-of-pearl, coral and chalcedony, as well as chrysoprase. The Rose de Noël mini pendant features yellow gold, lapis lazuli and diamonds and, to create these gleaming, coloured flowers, Van Cleef & Arpels’ expert gemologists select materials of the highest quality. White mother-of-pearl brings iridescent reflection; lapis lazuli, an intense and uniform shade of blue. It takes several years to source perfectly matched ensembles due to the stones’ rarity. And the diamonds, of course, meet the maison’s standards of excellence: D to F for colour and IF to VVS for clarity. The Fleurette collection motif features seven round diamonds forming a delicate corolla. The meeting of rose gold and diamonds creates a radiant harmony unfolding as a delicate flower. The gorgeously whimsical idea of a garden in which time is gauged by a variety of flowering plants opening and closing at specific hours of the day – the floral clock envisaged by Swedish botanist Carl von Linné – formed the principal for two brand-new timekeepers: the Lady Arpels Heures Florales and Lady Arpels Heures Florales Cerisier. The latter features a 38mm case in rose gold and diamonds with a dial of rose, white and yellow gold, pink sapphires, yellow and white diamonds, white mother-of-pearl and miniature paintings all held on a shiny pink alligator strap. The watches’ three-dimensional dials tick by the hours with the opening and closing of 12 corollas and telling time becomes a poetic spectacle as the flowers blossom and close at random, recreating the scenery of the dial every 60 minutes.

reative Director Claire Choisne revisits the couture heritage of the maison’s founder Frédéric Boucheron, whose father worked as a draper in Paris, taking an innovative approach to the concept of ceremonial ornaments to create 24 High Jewellery pieces that deconstruct the symbols of power.

MÉDAILLE Medals are featured in a circle of 15 pendants forming a necklace in white gold, rock crystal and diamonds. The maison’s artisans shaped 15 crystal blocks – each cut to fit the piece – in such a way that their streaks perfectly resemble the grosgrain texture of a ribbon. These were then carved according to the principle of glyptic art. Two medallions, edged with diamonds, detach to be worn as brooches. The necklace is completed by a pair of clip earrings and two rings.
BOUTONS Claire Choisne has created a set of 15 white gold buttons with diamonds and rock crystals that can be worn as hair ornaments, buttonholes or tie pins. The set also features a ring in frosted rock crystal set with a D VVS2 diamond of 4.63 carats and a pair of ear pendants.
COL Crafted to resemble the high, tight-fitting collar often seen on ceremonial costumes, this piece is inspired by a tiara the maison produced in the 1900s. Its lace-like design may be worn in various ways and a pair of matching earrings boasts 662 round diamonds. NOUED This set pays tribute to the bow with a play on texture and light, the matte effect of frosted rock crystal coupled with the sparkle of diamonds giving the appearance of grosgrain ribbon. The necklace is made up of 435 frosted baguette-cut rock crystals and the edges and interior of the grosgrain bow are set with diamonds, including a pear-shaped F VVS2 diamond of 4.05 carats. The necklace can be worn in six different ways, and the bow can also be transformed into a brooch or shoulder adornment. Moreover, the central stone may be mounted on a ring as a solitaire. Two other rings complete the set. TRICOT Reinterpreting the chevron pattern of knitwear, this necklace is designed like a rock crystal knit, with each material individually sand-blasted and
ÉPAULETTES Shoulder epaulettes are revisited in diamond spirals inspired by a diadem crafted in 1902 for Mary De Teck, Princess of Wales. In white gold paved with diamonds, they can transform into a pair of bracelets. The design also appears on a modern white gold tiara set with round diamonds and coordinates with matching ear pendants. AIGUILLETTE This reinterpretation of the aiguillette is a braided white gold, rock crystal and diamond necklace that may be worn in many ways. Two brooches and a frosted rock crystal bracelet can be detached from it and worn separately. The neo-Art Deco necklace is set with a round E VVS2 diamond of 2.11 carats and splits into two brooches. A coordinating pair of pendant earrings in diamond-paved rock crystal to be worn long or short. BRODERIES Embroideries take the form of the fern, a plant that Frédéric Boucheron adored. Entirely paved with diamonds on a white gold frame, the two leaves can be worn as brooches or hair pieces thanks to an ingenious polyvalent fastening system. Now, the latter has been reimagined in a new range coming in three formats – a 44mm chronograph, a 44mm automatic GMT and a 42mm automatic. Each has 300m water resistance, easy-grip functionality and corrosionresistant construction. Avenger B01 Chronograph 44 and Night Mission Providing around 70 hours of power, the driving force behind the new Avenger chronograph is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. To reveal the movement’s precise mechanics, the chronos are equipped with an open sapphire-crystal caseback. With a rotating 60-minute, stainless steel bezel, core models have a coloured dial in either blue, green, black or sand. Their warm welcome set the tone for what was to be a session of unparalleled pampering. A unique feature caught my attention immediately – a body map used innovatively to pinpoint areas of focus. This thoughtful touch ensured a personalised experience, resonating with my specific needs.
The welcome drink, a refreshing and invigorating prelude to the indulgence ahead, was just the beginning. I was led into the spa’s inner sanctum, a gracefully appointed hallway that led to the treatment rooms. The warm wooden flooring stretched forth, bordered by gently curving walls that whispered of privacy. Soft, ambient lighting spilt from elegant fixtures, casting a serene glow, while strategically placed vases of vibrant orchids added a splash of natural beauty. An Uplifting Experience The true commencement of this sensory escapade was the foot ritual, set in a lavish bronze bowl. Red rose petals floated decadently on the surface, mingling with a blend of green tea powder and honey – an antibacterial concoction that set a tone not only of purity but also of rejuvenation and sheer luxury. Choices embody luxury and, at Banyan Tree Spa, this was epitomised in selecting the perfect oil for my full-body massage. Would it be the invigorating black pepper and lavender awakening the senses or the tranquil blend of ylang-ylang and geranium transporting me to a floral paradise? Each stroke by Patcha was a dialogue in relaxation, a narrative of tranquillity unfolding under her expert touch. Incredibly responsive, she had a keen intuition for locating knots and tender spots, working on them sensitively yet effectively. Every palm press on my back was a whisper of comfort, a soothing melody in the symphony of sensory pleasure. This dance of movements transcended the mere act of massage; it was a harmonious balance of body and spirit, a meticulous choreography that stimulated the energy flow, feeling akin to a symphony to the senses. Enhancing this sensory odyssey was the heated bed. Far from being just a bed, it was a sanctuary of warmth and comfort. Lying there, I felt as if I was enveloped in a hug, each muscle in my body unwinding, each thought drifting away like clouds in a serene sky.

he Doha flagship marks the sixth Carbone in the hospitality company Major Food Group's roster, along with Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Miami, Dallas, and the New York original, which opened in 2013 created by Mario Carbone, Rich Torissi and Jeff Zalaznick. The brand is known for creating a contemporary, celebratory and highly exclusive dining experience inspired by the storied tradition of the mid-century, New York-style Italian restaurant. Boasting a seating capacity of 180 and a year-round, air-conditioned terrace, Carbone has established itself as the premier spot for those seeking to see and be seen. The restaurant’s traditional and elaborate décor is fronted by heavydraped curtains and the welcoming front-of-house staff. Our captain for the evening, Ervin, took us to our table on the terrace, where the sleek patio heaters’ flickering flames added to the setting’s ambience, and chilled
Motown music played gently in the background. The interior seating offers circular booth tables complemented by subdued lighting accentuated with both chandeliers and table lights. Generous flower bouquets contribute an added level of meticulous attention to detail. The exquisite menu was explained to us and the sharing concept meant we opted for a few dishes in order to taste the best of what was on offer. The bread basket was the first of many dishes to arrive at the table with a choice of two freshly baked types, Grandma’s bread, a sourdough with a tangy tomato topping, and a buttery garlic bread, accompanied by 24-monthaged Parmigiano and a punchy pickled cauliflower dish. Opting to try two mocktails, we selected Menta – a blend of mint, lemon, apple and soda water, and Il Coco – a concoction of pineapple, coconut, lemon and ginger. Served in tall glasses with simple decorations, they had light and refreshing flavours.

Before long, the Caesar salad trolley was brought to the table; with each ingredient laid out, Ervin skillfully mixed the delicious crunchy lettuce leaves with the traditional Caesar dressing. After ensuring the leaves were suitably coated in the punchy dressing, the parmesan was grated and topped with oversized croutons and, to conclude the preparation, salty, savoury anchovies. The flavours perfectly complemented each other and set the bar high for what was yet to come. Antipasti dishes were quick to follow the freshly prepared salad. Again, the trolley was brought to the table to show the meticulous preparation of the house specialities, Carpaccio Piemontese, Burrata & Caviar and Shrimp Cocktail. The carpaccio is made with thinly cut slithers of prime American tenderloin and topped with cremini mushrooms, walnuts, black truffle dressing and rocket leaves. The meat itself was perfectly seasoned and melted in the mouth, with the mushrooms adding a little extra bite to the soft and tender texture. The burrata dish was constructed under our watchful eyes. The soft creamy cheese cut open and laid onto a crisp bread and generously accompanied by Black Diamonds Caviar (Imperial Beluga Premium) to complete the dish. The Shrimp Cocktail is composed of poached Red Giant Prawns Carabineros, sourced from the shores of Spain's Canary Islands, and complemented by zested horseradish and classic cocktail sauce.

Carbone prides itself on its signature pasta dish, the restaurant’s worldfamous Spicy Rigatoni. This delectable dish is a speciality at Carbone, where it has gained a reputation for its irresistible combination of heat and creaminess. Cooked to perfection until it reaches the ideal al dente texture, it boasts a tantalising sauce with a Calabrian chilli kick, beautifully balanced with richness from the cream. This harmonious blend of flavours creates a truly satisfying and memorable dining experience. A light Pesci course was served featuring a flame-grilled seabass, the charred lines offering a distinct smokiness and adding extra crunch to the skin. The fish itself was cooked perfectly, with moist, flaky pieces falling away to the fork. A handful of steamed asparagus tips was presented alongside to add a refreshing bite and extra texture. The desserts offered the finest quality, traditional Italian favourites. The one that stood out for me was Carbone's Chocolate Hazelnut Terrine. A rich hazelnut treat topped with smooth vanilla ice cream and gold leaf for that further grand touch – delightful for the eyes and palate. The attention to detail in the preparation, presentation and serving of each dish was second to none, with special attention given to any dietary requirements accommodated by the brand’s Executive Chef, Matteo Dayem.

HLALA is a fan of all things Porsche and we always relish the chance to get behind the wheel of any model we can get our hands on. This month, thanks to the team at Porsche Centre Doha, we got the opportunity to test drive the new, fullyelectric 2024 Taycan Turbo S. EXTERIOR Our first impression of the four-door sports saloon was that it carries the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. At the front end, the low and wide stance of the vehicle is particularly obvious. As a result of the compact drive components, the bonnet slopes down at a flat angle between two highly pronounced wings. The LED matrix headlights and the air curtains combine to form a visual unit that seems to float. The unique light signature with three-dimensional glass elements is further enhanced by the presence of four-point daytime running lights – both flatter and wider than those of any previous Porsche model. From the sides, we admired the sculpted contours of the new Taycan, along with the steeply sloping panoramic roofline. The short overhangs at the front and rear emphasise the car’s sporty proportions, whilst the sleekly designed cabin sits on a wide body and 21-inch Mission E design wheels, both reinforcing the car’s lean and muscular look. At the back, the drawn-in C-pillar and pronounced shoulders of the wings enhance the width of the rear. A narrow, illuminated bar stretches from one side of the back end to the other and contains the Porsche logo made of three-dimensional-shaped glass letters. Further notable rear design features include an aerodynamically efficient diffuser and a spoiler that extends in three phases depending on speed. INTERIOR Slipping into the 18-way electric adaptive front sport seats, the driverorientated nature of the tech-laden cockpit was immediately apparent. The cleanly styled dashboard is a modernised version of the one fitted in the original 1963 911. The wing-shaped upper and lower sections of the dash stretch across the entire width of the car, where they effortlessly blend into the door trims. The instrument panel also features a clean, minimalist and ultracontemporary design, whilst the curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dash. All components are positioned to ensure the driver has everything required to drive the Taycan in easy view.

A novel inclusion in the interior is the compact direction selector switch in the instrument panel, replacing the classic lever in the previous models. The Taycan is equipped with two-plus-two seating as standard, but you can opt for a third seating space in the back if desired. With ample room on offer in the front and a comfortable seating arrangement in the back, this sleek sports saloon is not only aesthetically pleasing but functional to boot. INFOTAINMENT & TECH The highly innovative instrument cluster houses a 16.8-inch display with a modern tablet-like appearance. The driver can select between four display modes – Power Meter, Map, Extended Map and Reduced – each focusing on different aspects of the driving experience. A passenger display is offered as an optional extra. The elevated centre console features an additional 8.4-inch touch panel with haptic feedback. Our favourite feature of this panel was the integrated handwriting recognition that allows for the quick entry of street addresses. We also noticed that many classic hardware controls have been omitted, replaced by touch operation and voice control functions. The colour head-up display is another great optional extra, projecting relevant information directly into the driver’s field of vision. It features several display options, including a navigation display, a power meter and a user-defined view.

PERFORMANCE & SAFETY The Taycan Turbo S features a robust all-wheel drive set up with dual electric motors, one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rears. The model also comes equipped with the Performance Battery Plus as standard which enables it to produce 625hp. This allows the Turbo S to accelerate from a standstill with thrillingly fast acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds flat and it also pushes up to a top speed of 260km/h. Porsche have included a centrally networked control system for the car’s chassis that analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in realtime. Complete with adaptive air suspension featuring three-chamber technology, and four driving modes including Range, Normal, Sport and, Sport Plus, this metallic masterpiece is equipped to deliver a smooth and exciting driving experience. The all-electric Taycan can be recharged at home with 9.6kW of alternating current (AC). When out and about, the charging time from 5% to 80% is a quick 22.5 minutes when using maximum charging power at a charging station. This equates to 100km of range in just 5.5 minutes. With a battery capacity of 93.4kWh, the model allows for a range of around 450km. Lastly, it’s no surprise that Porsche have equipped the new Taycan Turbo S with a full suite of the latest driver assistance and safety features.
