Cool New Series

There are so many top-quality series this month. Marisa Cutillas brings you a list of favourites that are as highly praised by critics as by audiences.

Stranger Things Season Four, Volume One recently premiered seven episodes on Netflix. This month, Season 4 Volume 2 – with just two epic episodes – hits our screens. Thanks to the trailer and information provided by the cast and crew, we know that Volume Two will feature new monsters (of the human and Upside Down varieties) and all the interplay between the characters we have come to know and love. Season Five will be the series’ last.

The heart-stopping teaser trailer to Resident Evil indicates that its plot is divided into two. The first, set in 2022, sees two girls called Jade and Billie moving with their father to the futuristic Raccoon City. The place seems ideal, but Jade soon discovers that her father and the corporation he is working for (the Umbrella Corporation) are hiding secrets. The second set of events take place in 2036. Jade is now older and fighting for her survival in London. The world is now overrun by a plague of zombies, thanks to the workings of the Umbrella Corporation.

Amazon Prime Video

An exciting series centred on Navy SEAL, James Reece (Chris Pratt), whose entire platoon is ambushed while he is on a covert mission. Reece returns to his family with disturbing memories of the event, but stress is the least of his worries when he discovers that his life is still in danger. He must once again muster his courage to take on the enemy while protecting the lives of his loved ones.

This Swedish series is all about a teenager prince (Prince Wilhelm of Sweden) and the time he spends at an elite boarding school. When Season One ended, Wilhelm had fallen for fellow student, Simon. However, the couple was threatened by a secret recording of their affair by Wilhelm’s evil cousin, August. The two are clearly still in love, so we will see how their attraction plays out in this new season.

This tough, gritty psychological series is adapted from the true crime memoir, In with the Devil: A Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption, by James Keene and Hillel Levin. The action begins when high school football hero and policeman’s son, Jimmy Keene (Taron Egerton) is given a 10-year prison sentence. The police give him two choices – he can either serve his full sentence, or enter a maximum-security prison and obtain information from a serial killer. He chooses the latter, despite the immense risks involved. Black Bird is Ray Liotta’s last completed project before he passed away. Series creator, Dennis Lehane, called him “the most electric American actor of his generation.” e
