Most manufacturing and development, including construction, during the past century was based upon an approach that traces its origins to the industrial revolution, and as such it has always focused upon largescale development that moves resources from around the world to a central point where production is concentrated, and from which the finished product is, once again, shipped around the world. This method, which originally relied on coal, later became dependent upon the oil, concrete, steel and industrial and financial systems we have grown up with – but as we enter deeper into the 21st century and technology is opening up new possibilities, there is a drive for change.

Acciona designs its residential projects from a sustainable perspective, focusing on minimal impact on the environment, the efficient use of energy and resources, as well as the development of sustainable energy sources. On a technical level, the construction process is modernised and sped up with the use of new project management systems, materials and also prefabricated elements that reduce the build time by several months at a time.

ACCIONA ON THE COSTA DEL SOL

The Madrid-based firm is involved in a variety of projects across Spain and indeed the world, but on the Costa del Sol focuses on commercial and residential/ resort development. Prominent among the latter is Estrella del Mar, a stylish new complex of 58 modern two and three-bedroom townhouses in Elviria just 280 metres from the sea. Situated near the Hotel Vincci Estrella del Mar and a short stroll from its beach club and spa upon the beach, this project represents a rare opportunity to own a brand-new, first-occupation home this close to the water – a privilege that is hard to find these days. ›

Stylish and modern, the properties are designed to offer the latest comforts in a spacious, engaging environment with nice terraces and open views and first-class on-site amenities. In Casares, Acciona is developing La Sabina, a luxurious private community of 60 two and threebedroom apartments within a gated garden complex. A little further along, adjacent to the Santa Catalina beach and yacht harbour of Puerto de Santa María, there are more projects from the drawing boards of this innovative company – Vistahermosa, a high-level residential development.
