VEGAN, SOCIAL PERMACULTURE DESIGN COURSE WITH DRAGON DREAMING 2018 During this fully certified 14 day permaculture course (certified by the Permaculture Association Britain and Roots n Permaculture school) we will delve deep into permaculture including how to design food growing systems, design low impact houses and create economies, while also enriching and taking care of nature. This Permaculture Design Course (PDC) is devoted to creatively facing the social demands of our time and it offers practical impetus to dealing with interpersonal challenges both in the private and professional environment. Special emphasis will therefore be put into experiential learning by creating a temporary community for the duration of the course. We apply Dragon Dreaming and social permaculture tools to design the course and grow as a community, making sure everyone's needs are met, so we can all enjoy living together in a supportive learning environment. This 90 hour experiential workshop runs in two sections in July and in September. Each week is spread over 8 days, with one day off in between. Teaching will be in English.

Part 1: Sat 30th June to Sat 07th July
Part 2: Sun 16th to Sun 23rd September

Gunsleben, Germany For those who cannot make the full course - Day 1 is a stand alone one day introduction to Dragon Dreaming (participatory project design
 - Day 2 is a stand alone one day introduction to social permaculture. 1

COURSE CONTENT

The syllabus will cover the following areas

Permaculture The course will from day one put into practice social permaculture and Dragon Dreaming. We will create a community and practically explore how we ensure everyone's needs are met, and how everyone can safely express themselves. Having found our inner balance and balance within our newly forged community, we then move into exploring the traditional permaculture syllabus, including environmentally friendly food growing; soil generation; water management; house building; alternate economics and livelihood, etc. Having explored the theory of permaculture ethics, principles and approach to challenges, we will then move on to in depth design work and practicals (hands-on work), which solidifies the theory. The emphasis remains on learning the patterns and concepts that are applied in permaculture, so you can apply this to all aspects of your life after the course has finished. Hence the practicals will be a way to reinforce the theory and design work that we cover.

TRAINING COSTS The cost for the training is based on gift economy, where participants are invited to contribute what they can afford and are willing to pay.

The cost of putting on the course means we need to raise on average â‚Ź720 per person FOR ALL 14 DAYS (i.e. part 1 and 2, not just part 1). However we invite you to propose how much you would like to contribute. We encourage those of you who can contribute more to do so, which should allow us to cover our costs in case some cannot cover the recommended average. By group agreement, typically any shortfall will be covered anonymously via a magic hat process. This process is part of the permaculture ethos, which allows people to pay according to their capacity, while meeting the needs of the hosts, teachers, etc PAYMENT METHODS

THE PLACE The village of Gunsleben is wonderful base for everyone who wants to go back to nature. Imagine waking up to the sight of browsing roe deer or the mating calls of rare birds. Vast forests, high plains that are partly used for agriculture, wild rivers, streams and waterfalls and large and small reservoirs, while nearby there are also parks and fields. Welcome to "Hauptstrasse 22" in Gunsleben.

VISION Over the past ten years the foundation’s management team have used their time to preserve this labyrinth of buildings and secure it for the future. Now it is time to give direction to the nature of the estate. The foundation wants to use permaculture (Earth care, People care, Fair share) to give substance

to the design and use of 'Hauptstrasse 22'. That is why we are honored to host the PDC from Rakesh and Ulrike.

VENUE The property has approximately 2.5 ha. and is equipped with plenty of buildings. Accommodation will be in tents or indoor dorm: 5€ per day. To cover the costs of heating, lighting, gas, water etc, the host is asking a contribution of €40 per week (7 or 8 days). Food covered by the community

COMMUNITY To create a deeper sense of community, throughout the course we will create teams who will help cook every day. We will create a system which allows us to express what our dietary needs are, so that we ensure every meal is ideal for everyone.

FOOD COSTS To ensure we keep the food costs and quality at a level the students require, we are adopting the tried and tested self organising method. This means we will ask you to either bring enough food ingredients to cover your food needs for the duration of the course or bring a mix of food and cash. The food could include home grown veg, grains, preserves, etc. The cash will go into a pot which will be used to buy food as and when required, which will be managed by an elected group of participants. We kindly request everyone to only bring vegan, vegetarian food, which we will pool together and collaboratively cook in teams. Where possible fresh organic veg will be contributed from the venue. This method has proven to be very successful, as it promotes

collaborative decision making and collaborative working. It also allows people to contribute in a way that suits their budget. Participants from previous courses have taken well to this method and noted how the food budget was significantly less that what they would have expected on any other course.

LANGUAGE All classes will be in English however If there are a number of people who require a translator please let us know and we will work to accommodate this. As part of our community culture we will create a process which ensures all language needs are covered, including if there are words or sentences you do not understand we will address it immediately.

TEACHING TEAM Rakesh Rootsman Rak

Ulrike Reimann,

Lead Instructor

Co-Facilitator

– An experienced Permacultre designer teacher, forest garden specialist, yoga teacher, homeopath and reggae DJ. Rakesh has been designing and teaching permaculture to individuals and communities since 2009, and has taught over 200 permaculture, forest gardening, eco village design and related courses. His design portfolio ranges from a forest garden on part of a 30-hectare ecovillage in Croatia that he co- owned through to many urban community food growing gardens, private farms and back gardens as well as designing collaborative businesses, urban water retention systems and even computer software and documentation systems. Rakesh is also passionate about sharing his journey of self empowerment (learning how to make all the things you need for yourself rather than relying on the system to provide for you), this includes eco architecture (low impact housing); capturing and storing energy (electricity, heat, lighting, etc); fuel efficient heating systems (rocket heaters and stoves); water capture, purification and recycling systems, natural bee keeping and so on.

ULRIKE´s personal journey reflects the essence of the approaches that she uses. Her experience of living and working in the post war balkan countries inspired her decision to study intercultural pedagogy and to dive more into the question of how to engage with pain and diversity and how to create home and belonging.
Since 2007 she is a self-employed teacher, trainer and facilitator and follows and explores topics that touch her and that seem to be urgently needed at this time in the places in which we live. In the last 10 years she has been facilitating many community and permaculture projects and teams with Dragon Dreaming, eager to support groups and communities to ground and implement their yearnings for a meaningful and healthy life. Seeing many people, projects and great ideas coming to a halt somewhere on the path Ulrike is evolving tools and approaches that help people, individually and together, to face and to overcome the obstacles they are facing in the creation of sustainable projects and teams. She is intrigued by what is marginalized and rejected within individuals and teams and she loves to explore ways to invite them back in to the group where these 'disturbances ' can be engaged with for the benefit of the whole.

He is one of the founders of the Children in Permaculture project (CiP), and is also one of the founders of the Youth in Permaculture (YiP) project. So be prepared to go off on inspirational tangents occasionally. http://www.ecologicaldesigns.co.uk/

She is a certified trainer of trainers for "Dragon Dreaming" as well as a Trainer in Nonviolent Communication. She is a student of Processwork (by Arnold Mindell). Ulrike is also a certified trainer and a published author in the field of MyroAgogik, an ancient greek wisdom and set of practices for expressing and transforming grief and the pain of loss. Ulrike is a passionate teacher and likes to create and hold spaces where learning and growth is happening. She is currently landing in Bratislava / Slovakia and is about to start an urban permaculture project. http://emotionskultur.de
