OPERA SEMINAR: TOSCA Presented by Opera Southwest, this program features singers, musical and artistic staff offering their perspectives on the opera, while providing an in-depth view for a deeper understanding and enjoyment of the performance. The cost is $17 for non-members, $15 for Guild members and 10 percent discount for members of the Albuquerque Museum Foundation. Purchase tickets two weeks in advance at operasouthwest.org. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13 1–4 P.M. SECOND SATURDAY AT CASA SAN YSIDRO: HAPPY 20TH! This Second Saturday celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Casa San Ysidro’s acquisition by Albuquerque Museum. This event features Baroque ‘n Arts performing traditional baroque- and Spanish Colonial-style music; the Corrales Historical Society will present interviews about Casa’s history and recorded lectures from founder Alan Minge. Visitors will

be able to participate in a scavenger hunt and receive prizes. The event will also serve as a fundraiser to support future public programs at Casa.

3RD THURSDAY: CHINESE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE IN ALBUQUERQUE Join us for an evening celebrating Albuquerque’s Chinese American community. Enjoy performances by community dance and music groups. At 6 p.m., historians Suellen Cheng and Dr. Munson A. Kwok discuss the resilience, persistence, and even inventiveness of Chinese Americans in joining the Southwestern and greater American society.

ROBIN SALMON TALK Ms. Salmon will speak about the backgrounds of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, the founding of Brookgreen Gardens, the development of the sculpture collection by Anna Hyatt Huntington through the 1930s, and how the collection has grown since that time.

SECOND SATURDAY AT CASA SAN YSIDRO: VETERAN’S DAY CELEBRATION In celebrating the end of WWI Casa San Ysidro will commemorate the bravery of those that fought in the war, some of whom are buried in San Ysidro cemetery. The Corrales Historical Society will partner with Casa San Ysidro to provide cemetery tours and information about the graves of these WWI veterans. A tour, short film, and scavenger

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9 2–3 P.M. TALK: REMEMBERING 1882 IN TODAY'S IMMIGRATION DEBATES Speaker Ted Gong will discuss the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the six decades of anti-Chinese laws that have effected all Americans. Driven by nativism, this legacy of exclusion and its negative impacts undermined core American values. This talk examines concepts from the Chinese Exclusion Act and the social conditions and attitudes around it that remain relevant

and important to consider today. Gong is retired from the U.S. Foreign Service where he worked on border security, immigration, refugees, citizenship and consular services. He is the director of the 1882 Project Foundation, an organization that broadens public awareness and understanding of the history of the Chinese in America.

AMERICAN JEWELRY FROM NEW MEXICO A survey of more than 300 spectacular objects, all aspects of jewelry adornment from prehistory to the present tell the stories of diverse heritages, as artists live in concert, trade, and adapt with their neighbors. An accompanying book is published by the Museum of New Mexico Press.

EVERYDAY PEOPLE: THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF CLARENCE E. REDMAN Clarence Eugene Redman, a pioneering mid-20th century Albuquerque commercial photographer, worked for newspapers and an ad agency before setting up his own commercial studio in 1933. Over the next three and a half decades, Redman would capture the wide array of activities that made up everyday life in Albuquerque.

PAUL SARKISIAN A retrospective installation of work by Paul Sarkisian proves the power of continuous innovation, and the importance of mastery of technique before an artist can create masterpieces reflecting his vision.

OPENING OCTOBER 21 ARTSTHRIVE: ART EXHIBITION AND BENEFIT A six-week invitational exhibition hosted by the Albuquerque Museum Foundation and held at the Albuquerque Museum. Proceeds from art sales and sponsorships provide funding for the Museum’s educational programs for children and families, Museum exhibition support, and acquisitions.

OPENING NOVEMBER 10 VISIONS OF THE HISPANIC WORLD: TREASURES FROM THE HISPANIC SOCIETY MUSEUM & LIBRARY A rich story of cultures settling in Spain and bringing the best and most innovative elements of their heritage to the Iberian Peninsula and the Spanish colonies. Part I includes Ancient, Islamic, Medieval, Golden Age Spain, Colonial and 19th century Latin America, including works by El Greco, Velázquez, and Zurbaran.

OPENING DECEMBER 22 VISIONS OF THE HISPANIC WORLD: TREASURES FROM THE HISPANIC SOCIETY MUSEUM & LIBRARY Part II includes Goya through the 1920s Spain.

THROUGH JANUARY 6 FROM INVISIBLE TO VISIBLE: THE CHINESE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE IN ALBUQUERQUE The exhibition explores how our city’s Chinese American community came to be and is a testament to a community’s resilience, perseverance, determination and courage.

THROUGH SPRING 2019 FROM CALDER TO CHICAGO: SCULPTORS ON PAPER Sculptors have historically tended to produce extraordinary drawings and works on paper. This exhibition reveals them as vital ends in themselves. Featured in the Angelique & Jim Lowry Works on Paper Gallery, the exhibition will include approximately eighteen important works from the Museum’s permanent collection.

ONGOING ONLY IN ALBUQUERQUE See the story of our city from before written history to the present, set in an engaging, fun, and interactive atmosphere. Our story is told through four galleries: Spirited, Courageous, Resourceful and Innovative, all connecting to a central gallery entitled Our Land. Hundreds of our city’s most beloved artifacts are featured, including the display case from Fred Harvey’s Alvarado Curio Shop, the 8th Duke of Albuquerque’s Repostero, and arms and artifacts from Coronado’s Entrada. COMMON GROUND: ART IN NEW MEXICO A bold installation of Albuquerque Museum’s permanent collection emphasizes real New Mexico. Common Ground celebrates the diverse creativity of artists living in or influenced by this region. Drawn from the Museum's permanent collection of almost 10,000 works of art, Common Ground includes masterworks by artists including Georgia O'Keeffe, Ernest Blumenschein, Raymond Jonson, Fritz Scholder, Luis Jimenez, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, and Diego Romero.
