The third concert explores Arnold Schoenberg’s adaptation of Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde.” It’s been adapted for chamber orchestra and features vocal soloists singing texts based on ancient Chinese poetry. It explores the themes of youth, the seasons, loss, and change.

The final concert brings a world premiere from Portland-based composer Ryan Francis. In the piece Chatter commissioned, “Voynich Transcripts: The Search for Lost Knowledge,” Francis draws inspiration from a fifteenth century codex, the Voynich Manuscript, which features detailed drawings of botany, astronomy, and biology. “Things can be lost, and are being lost,” Francis says. “How much knowledge will be lost due to climate change? How many species of plants are going to be lost, and what diseases would they have cured?” Francis’s compositional style looks forward, even as he asks listeners to reflect on the wisdom of the past, much of which is waiting to be rediscovered.

LEAVE A LEGACY WITH AM SOCIETY The aM Society honors those who have chosen to generously commit to the future of the Albuquerque Museum by including the Albuquerque Museum Foundation in their estate plans. Giving from generation to generation is one of the most meaningful and significant ways philanthropic-minded people can leave a lasting legacy.

It is important to specifically list the Albuquerque Museum Foundation in your will so that your gift may be properly managed and acknowledged, and your wishes honored. If you are interested in joining the aM Society or want information about estate giving, please call or email Emily Blaugrund Fox at 505.338.8738 or ebfox@ albuquerquemuseum.org.

A GIFT FOR THE FUTURE This spring, Ed and Virginia Fultz reached out to aM Foundation staff with an intention to include the Albuquerque Museum Foundation in their estate plans. Ed and Virginia’s generous gift will ensure access for future generations to the community enrichment, quality programming, and world-class art featured at the Museum. Since Ed and Virginia became members in 2005, the Museum has featured prominently in their lives, and has provided meaningful and continued engagement.

“No matter the season, a trip to the Albuquerque Museum is for us like a mini-vacation,” say the Fultzes. “A leisurely stroll through the galleries and changing exhibits is always a special outing followed by discussion during lunch or a snack in the Museum café. The Museum is a treasure, rather like a valued friend.”

Per current IRS policy, distributions made from Donor-Advised Funds or Family Foundations may not be used to fulfill a pledge or Patrons’ Circle Membership that would result in a personal benefit to a donor or a member of donor’s family (e.g. tickets to events, dinners, tables for events etc.) Please call if you have additional questions or need clarification.
