This is without doubt one of my favourite issues to work on each year; a design publication that features some of the world’s most glamorous hotels is more than a design book, it is an escape to sunnier climes, a day dream of delicious destinations and perhaps offers inspirations for the next vacation. However The World’s Most Glamorous Hotels is more than an upmarket travel brochure, it is essentially a key design issue. We have carefully selected schemes, all of which have been chosen from recent winners and shortlisted contenders in The International Hotel & Property

10 Design Et Al

Awards. The projects selected are as diverse as they are intriguing, each defining glamour in their own individual and unique way. As one of our annual design books we do hope you enjoy this 2017 issue and take more than a little holiday inspiration from it, the hotel projects are rich in ideas and innovation from a design perspective and will certainly excite the imagination. Enjoy, Joanne

THEY CAPTURED THE STYLE, CLASS AND SOPHISTICATION OF THE ART DECO ERA PERFECTLY

Situated on the beautiful island of Ibiza, Es Vivé is a true landmark of the White Isle. One of the best known and most alluring hotels on the island; legendary for its style, level of service and fabulous pool parties. Hotel Es Vivé, reputed to be the original rock and roll hotel, with deep roots in the island’s contemporary culture was originally built as a private residence in the 1940s, it is now one of the very few listed buildings on the Island. Es Vivé was recognised at the International Hotel & Property Awards 2016 in September, when Cochrane Design claimed the Hotel Under 200 Rooms Award for Europe with this chic and timeless transformation. Es Vivé’s loyal clientele are a mix of fashionistas, designers and the club circuit’s high fliers. The owners were keen to offer their guests an experience that was more befitting to the hotel’s roots and so commissioned Cochrane Design to create an Ibiza destination with a difference, Art Deco was the agreed design direction. The exciting 1940’s period inspired the design, mixing the bold lines and sweeping curves of the time to capture the essence of a bygone era full of elegance and fashion. Sean Cochrane, creative director at Cochrane Design, has a reputation for balancing contemporary details with

18 The World’s Most Glamorous Hotels

classic style and luxury. The cohesive design, layout and seamless blend of styles is key to making the hotels aesthetic a success. The hotel has 52 tastefully appointed rooms and suites with wonderful sea views from inviting balconies. The innovative interior decors make each room unique, having been lovingly designed to perfection and embracing the distinct art deco style. Every room and suite is offset by a luxurious marble bathroom, stylish furnishings and equipped with all the facilities desired from a luxury hotel. Es Vivé has a wonderful sun terrace, a calm poolside atmosphere, an on-site spa, a chic and intimate bar and a luxe restaurant. On first entering the restaurant, a striking symmetry draws diners toward the monolithic pearlescent bar with the bespoke floor acting as a cat walk through the centre of the room. This stunning floor was created using Ibiza Bianca marble inlaid with veined black marble in an Art Deco inspired pattern. Silver leaf and antiqued mirror elements add provenance to the interior. The chandeliers, hanging lights, mirrors and bar were all designed by Cochrane Design and were imported from Italy and London. The hotel owners were delighted with the design, with Jason Bull commenting “my favourite feature of the hotel is the restaurant. It was the first task within the hotel that Cochrane Design undertook and they captured the style, class and sophistication of the art deco era perfectly”.

Every element down to the studded leather chairs, polished chrome feet, back plates and marble table tops as well as the coved ceiling with the stepped detail cornice, has been carefully considered to inspire the feeling of 1930’s elegance with an Ibizan twist. Hotel Es Vivé presents contemporary Art Deco which seamlessly reflects the Ibizan style. Every room in the hotel has been so carefully considered, that it’s difficult not to feel at home. The luxurious refinements adding a feel of distinguished opulence to every room. Today, with its iconic design features, striking colours and wonderful attention to detail, Hotel Es Vivé is the epitome of timeless style, sophistication and luxury – a stylistic nod to the hotel’s art deco heritage. Cochrane Design provides a comprehensive design service for private clients, developers and hoteliers throughout the UK and abroad. Creative Director, Sean Cochrane, and the dedicated team of talented designers handle all aspects of design, coordination, installation and dressing. A HOME FROM HOME

Perched on the crescent of Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah and surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Persian Gulf, the Waldorf Astoria Dubai is a spectacular, sophisticated and stylish hotel. Designed by SRSS Interior Design Studio, the Waldorf Astoria Dubai was a winning project at the International Hotel & Property Awards 2016. The design firm claimed the award for Hotel Over 200 Rooms at the prestigious ceremony. The luxury resort was inspired by the architecture of the 1960’s, the client brief was to ensure the interiors acknowledged the style of the building and not the cultural vernacular. Via Venetto and 1960’s Madison Avenue became the inspiration. Arabesque elements were omitted in favour of a crisp, 60’s corporate look; a truly international hotel without parallel in Dubai. SRSS and its Directors have a long standing wealth of experience in designing hotel and residential projects in the Middle East. For the most part, both clients and operators have in the past asked for a strong sense of place with emphasis placed on arabesque patterns and colours with rich colour tones and often highly decorative inlays. They were therefore excited to receive a brief from their client that proposed a different route whereby the interior design followed the mid-modern period aesthetic of the RMJM building. The 1960’s corporate look became the benchmark with white stone and extensive use of warm timbers across the spaces providing a backdrop to the midmodern inspired furnishings and fabrics. The hotel boasts 319 beautifully designed rooms that pair and understated palette of ivory, sand and turquoise, inspired by the location’s vast deserts and bright

26 The World’s Most Glamorous Hotels

seas, with rich wood furnishings and contemporary amenities. Standard guestrooms offer 49 square metres lined in grey oak whilst the 54 square metre executive guestrooms are enveloped in a warmed limed oak. In both schemes, subtle polished bronze trim adds additional layers of detail and eclectic period inspired accessories helped to create a truly residential ambiance. Inside, the rooms are equipped with a walk-in wardrobe, separate seating and desk areas, a 42-inch HDTV, docking station and coffee machine. Luxurious marble bathrooms include double vanities, a large bath and walk-in shower. The spacious, private balconies offer stunning uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf or inland across the glittering city skyline. SRSS enjoyed the design process immensely, and so every detail, every layer, every vignette was achieved with great depth of thought and clarity. The old mantra ‘a home from home’ is often used without meaning; these rooms however give just that, with that added touch of subtle sophisticated luxury one would expect of the finest hotels. SRSS Interior Design Studio have achieved a subtle blending of the iconic and more decorative expectations of the Waldorf Astoria Brand with the client’s wish for a paired back corporate mid modern look. “SRSS’s absorption of the design brief was quick, comprehensive and a most pleasant experience in what for a client is perhaps one of the most frustrating phases of a project. The points of differentiation were well understood and interpreted into a design that stands out subtly in the very busy and noisy design scene of Dubai.” Mr Shehab Gargash Founder & Managing Director, Daman Investments psc.

THE DESIGNERS PLAYED WITH VARIOUS FINISHES TO CREATE PERFECT HARMONY

Inside the prestigious Berkley Hotel in London, the luxuriously refurbished Chelsea Suites are spacious, contemporary and exquisitely elegant. They have a laidback and confident style, rooted in English craftsmanship, that perfectly conjures up the name ‘Chelsea’. Rewarded at the International Hotel & Property Awards 2016, Robert Angell claimed the Hotel Suite Award for Europe for the divinely designed suites. The design brief was for an interconnecting bedroom so that it can be made into a two bedroom suite but also have the flexibility to sell it as a single one bed suite with a lounge. The Suite facilities needed to ensure the guests every whim are at hand whether that be an individual staying for a couple of nights on business or family staying at the hotel for their summer holiday. There must be a luxurious bathroom and areas within the suite to relax, watch TV, work and allow families to be able to have multiple areas in which this can be realised. The suite should be contemporary, residential in style and also be durable as it is a hotel after all. Throughout the creative process, Angell worked closely with British craftsmen and artisans, maintaining a true sense of British design and heritage throughout the hotel’s ongoing refurbishment. With a refined palette of pale mints and yellows the suites’ design has been informed by Robert Angell’s artistic creativity and keen eye for detail. From subtle and warm colour scheme, edge trims and contrast piping, to the varied finishes, textures, corner details and hidden drawers, the layers of detail and expert craftsmanship are integral to the designs of these luxurious new suites. With bespoke craftsmanship by Ben Whistler and Dunmore, and attention to detail at the heart of the design all 34 The World’s Most Glamorous Hotels

elements have been considered to ensure guests receive the highest levels of comfort and luxury. “When designing suites such as these one really has to understand how affluent travellers searching for that ultimate experience come to expect a suite that allows them to relax, work, indulge and rest in a relatively small space. As designers we look to bring elements of how guests use a suite much the same as they would use their own home,” says Angell. There is a sense of arrival into the suite with a large square lobby featuring a personalised larder mini bar framed in a beautiful hand stitched leather surround and elegantly lit. The floor throughout is beautiful bespoke hardwood timber herringbone flooring. Room interiors are lined with textured wallpaper made up of delicate strips of paper which form a cross-hatched patina, creating an extra level of subtle detail. The designers played with various finishes to create perfect harmony – using rough materials such as Jesmonite on the organic shaped console legs creating texture against more glossier finishes, textures and patterns in fabrics create a relaxed atmosphere. The bedrooms have stunningly modern and comfortable hand-crafted four poster beds, made from brushed timber and contrasting lacquer. Additionally the stitched leather head-boards and side leather detailing on the bed base ensure guests are welcomed to bed by soft, warm leather as opposed to hard, cold bed frames. Sophisticated grey eucalyptus veneered marble night stands with lowlevel illumination frame the bed. Across the room, a flat-screen television is located above soft curving limed and lacquered timber desks with nickel detailing. The wardrobes have leather lined drawers with shaped glass fronts with nickel trims to each internal section, to create the upmost ease for hotel guests both during

their stay and upon departure ensuring nothing is forgotten. The luxurious sense of space is a key feature to the suite interiors, heightened by floor to ceiling sliding doors which separate the suite bedroom and living room and provide an added element of privacy. The living room is decorated with a curved sofa which wraps around a circular limed timber table with nickel sabots. A finely crafted wooden desk with a leather inlay top and compartment drawers for i-pads, pens and papers sits nestled nearby in a study space niche with book shelves lit adding a layer of detail. The room exudes elegance and is exquisite in every detail. Expansive soft cream marble bathrooms featuring luxuriously large baths, walk in showers and double wash hand basins with enough space each side for products to be placed, make for the perfect haven for guests to relax and unwind. The Guests reaction to the rooms has been one of joy and a feeling they really have arrived when they walk in. So much so that guests specifically ask when these suites are available. Robert Angell Design International designed five new Chelsea Suites enhancing the hotel’s contemporary style and understated elegance. Exceeding expectations the design team created a residential vibe with a lightness of touch that works from a hotel standpoint too. Speaking about the ID&A Awards, Robert Angell said “It’s a true Global awards event and like no other. It attracts the best of the best to celebrate the fabulous work which we all strive to create and produce better and better interior solutions for all of our amazing clients and their guests to enjoy.” WC 1296.

A REFLECTION OF CHEF STONE’S CREATIVE VISION THAT STEMS FROM HIS OWN CHILDHOOD MEALTIME EXPERIENCES

Located aboard a luxury cruise ship, SHARE by Curtis Stone is a six-course fine dining experience. Chef Curtis Stone and the cruise liner share a passion for bringing people together through food that creates happiness around the table. It’s a dedication to fresh cuisine that helps build connections to the world and those who explore it. Working closely with Chef Stone and the cruise liner, world-renowned hospitality designer Jeffrey Beers International developed a dining ambiance that is a reflection of Chef Stone’s creative vision and stems from his own childhood mealtime experiences Jeffrey Beers International were shortlisted for the Restaurant Within a Hotel Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2016 with this one of a kind project. The brief was to create interiors that were as much about family, community, and connection as they were about the food itself in an existing restaurant space aboard the large commercial cruise ship. It had to feel authentic and full of personal charm to ensure the activity of communicating and making shared memories could build naturally and effortlessly. All with the aim to re-create the mealtime experiences the restaurant’s chef had growing up in Australia. The residential-feeling ambiance is rich with layered history. Furnishings appear

42 The World’s Most Glamorous Hotels

to have been collected from different eras, forming a sleek and elegant assortment where the overall effect is new and fresh yet somehow familiar at the same time. Jeffrey Beers utilised the expertise of Santa Monica-based Fidelity arts in sourcing artwork for the project. Vice President of Fidelity Arts, Amy C. Lucena, describes the process of selecting suitable pieces “I was introduced to Curtis Stone and his team and learned the importance of fresh, seasonal organic produce for his cooking and lifestyle. Years previously, I had come across an artist called Susannah Blaxill who creates beautiful botanical watercolours of vegetables and fruit that were needing just the right project. The pieces are beautiful and detailed and fit the project perfectly as her work is in very small scale. I worked with the Curtis Stone team to separate the fruites and vegetables by season as seasonality is crucial to Curtis’ cooking.” The venue meshes vintage and modern design with white marble dining tables with oil-rubbed brass bases interspersed with espresso-stained wood and blackened steel versions all surrounded by seating that has a retro-modern flare. Community is driven through design with unusually low-backed banquettes, upholstered in luxe Chesterfield tufted leather, that allow guests to sling an arm over the top and casually converse with guests at other tables. A signature feature of SHARE is a communal table designed to encourage the sharing of a freshly prepared meal in the company of friends and family. The single counter-height sharing table is bordered by inset carpeting

and custom glass-tiled screens. The effect is that of a glamorously lived-in residential atmosphere, not normally experienced in hospitality interiors. Hand-blown glass pendants, etched with some of Chef Stone’s favourite recipes hang low over the sharing tables, casting an intimate glow and creating a warm and inviting experience. The restaurant itself is beautifully realised, finished in muted brown and grey palettes, with regular tables for those who prefer to dine alone and the long, high communal table for the more convivial. On the wall in the private dining room off to one side is a framed copy of Stone’s first recipe, a colourful recipe for “humble orange cake” written out in what looks like black, green and red crayon. Decorative curios from the chef’s own home including family photographs and travel souvenirs, are subtly scattered throughout the venue for an authentically homely feel. By creating a restaurant with a comfortable, homey atmosphere, the design allows for the important things in life to take centre stage - people, and the activity of creating shared moments with one another over a delicious meal. Friendly, cosy and unassuming without losing any of the luxury expected in a venue such as this.

THE RESULT IS A NEW CONTEMPORARY STYLE THAT MESHES HARMONIOUSLY WITH THE ART DECO FEATURES.

Located in the heart of Hamburg, Hotel Riecshof is a luxuriously restored landmark hotel that takes guests on a journey through Hamburg’s heritage. Rewarded at the International Hotel & Property Awards 2016, JOI Design claimed the Hotel Over 200 rooms award for this impressive restoration and redesign. JOI-Design’s extensive renovation of the Reichshof Hamburg’s architectural structure and interiors reinstates the impressive grandeur of the city’s beloved but worn landmark. The building’s original Empire and Art Deco aesthetics have been bridged with modern comforts and local cultural references, culminating in a stylish interpretation of the Curio brand. The hotel was to be Hilton’s first Curio in Europe, and as such the designers were guided by this relatively new brand’s premise of celebrating each property’s distinct identity and local charm. The Riecshof first opened in 1910 with a design inspired by the city’s rich maritime history and reputation as a Hanseatic mercantile centre; its impressive Art Deco façade was added in the 1920s. The initial vision remains alive one century later, with Langer’s concept inspired by the SS Cap Polonio – a luxury transatlantic cruise-ship built in Hamburg – still intact. The brief for the design was flexible guided only by overall budget, essential brand standards, and the opportunity to freely translate Curio’s premise into something memorable. The designers aimed to highlight the hotel’s beautifully preserved Art Deco era features like the finely crafted satin timber panelling and the illuminated, dramatically veined marble, copper and gold columns, restoring them as needed is a manner suitable for this listed building. At the same time, they have modernised the infrastructure to international standards by discreetly integrating the latest technologies so that the hotel is equipped for the future. New furniture and fittings designed by the studio are of a complementary style, for example the polished Bianca Carrara dining tables, soft velvet and leather seating, dark timber flooring, and custom-made lamps created to match those existing.

58 The World’s Most Glamorous Hotels

The lobby of The Reichshof is the largest and longest in Hamburg, as well as having one of the tallest ceiling heights. JOI-Design’s concept celebrates this, and in doing so emphasises the hotel’s sense of grandeur. Key to realising this aim was the total reconfiguration of the lobby. A mezzanine level that had been added decades after the hotel’s initial opening was demolished, thus restoring the intended effect of the building’s original design. The result is a space that feels much more open and impressive. The reception desk has been relocated from the entrance to the furthest most point at the back of the lobby, thus freeing-up the area at the street-side glazing. The eye-catching curb appeal of the lively central lounge has been designed to attract passers-by and establish an immediate sense of welcome. As a modern living room for city nomads, its eclectic décor feels inviting and relaxed; the button tufting and nailhead trim of the traditional caramel leather sofas mixes comfortably with modern platinum leather lounge chairs and organically shaped poufs. A collection of contemporary and vintage black and white photographs, artwork and adverts from Hamburg emphasises the building’s heritage from times past to the present day. Seating arrangements can be reconfigured for different group sizes, and electrical points permit guests to charge digital devices. Easily identifiable areas radiate off the central lobby. Standing out against the neutral background are glimmering contemporary chandeliers crafted with pink resin to a bespoke style by JOI-Design, while red pendant lights hung in the lounge’s wall niches add zip. Nestled into the far corner of the lobby is a private “vinyl lounge” reserved exclusively for hotel residents. Designed with soothing shades of grey and purple to form a relaxing retreat, it is kitted-out with turntables, vintage records, and headphones so that guests can unwind in a chilled atmosphere. The lack of a street entrance means the Slowman restaurant is secreted away from the bustle of the outside world and enhances its sense of exclusivity. High tables and barstools located next to an enlarged buffet area are ideal for patrons seeking a casual

meal or a quick bite, while sumptuous leather banquettes are better suited for relaxed occasions. A reconfiguration of the layout for the marble tables provides increased seating numbers and options for different group sizes, with open-lattice screens that create a sense of intimacy within the vast space whilst allowing waiters to keep an eye on the flow of activity. The restaurant’s elegant staircase sweeps up to a dining gallery adjacent to the conference rooms. The original, beautifully crafted timber joinery and embossed ceilings of Hamburg’s celebrated evening hotspot Bar 1910, formerly called M&M Bar, have been sensitively renewed. A low ceiling height, clusters of rich leather tub chairs and marble cocktail tables, and soft illumination from the wall lamps and recessed soffit lights help create the handsome, clubby feel of a private members’ bolthole. In order to provide a more spacious feel, JOI-Design reduced the room count from 300 to 278 guestrooms, six junior suites and three one bedroom suites, all refreshed with discreet allusions to the Art Deco era. Flooded with light, the elegant proportioned, taupe coloured rooms have been designed with comfort mind. On one side of the bed is a glossy white cabinet and on the other, a pedestal nightstand composed of a circular shelf that seems to floats atop an angular, polished steel base. Above each are charging points for guests’ mobile devices. The headboard has been crafted as an asymmetric composition of panels, with padded leather headrests and timber segments inset with backlit sections that emit diffused light. Affixed to the wall behind the bed are pendant lights with faceted crystal globes that add ambient illumination, while unwanted light leakage has been concealed by recessing the curtains into niches within the dropped ceiling. A sinuous ribbon pattern has been carefully coordinated to stretch across the floor’s carpet and onto the wallcovering, bringing a sense of fluidity to the ambience. Plush lounge chairs in neutral tones are enlivened by green cushions and a side table whose shiny triangular legs inject a dynamic energy. The result is a new contemporary style that meshes harmoniously with Art Deco features.

which is echoed throughout the room vases of yellow flowers. Rooms are dressed less with furniture than furnishing works of art; clean, angular lines of twin bedside lamps flank the framed masterpiece of a tactile checkered headboard, while a mirrored octagonal coffee table provides a unique reflection of light within its otherwise matte surroundings. Floor to ceiling windows allow light to rush in, bathing the room in a warm glow. The bathrooms are a feast of masculine angles and sharp greys as a marble countertop holding ‘his and hers’ basins adorn the walls, which are tiled in elegant steel toned mosaic that shimmers opulently.

over 4 floors, however, ingeniously, challenges were overcome by a carefully planned combination of dedicated podium elevators and escalators. MY FAVOURITE ASPECT OF THIS ENTIRE PROJECT IS HOW THE HOTEL’S CRYSTAL VILLAS FOLLOW SUIT WITH THE STRONG BUT SIMPLE ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENTS OF THE CROWN TOWERS RESORT.

Located in the Philipines premier leisure and entertainment resort, Crown Towers Manila is an exclusive and luxurious hotel at City of Dreams Manila—an exhilarating hub of international retail, world-class dining and globally renowned nightclubs and entertainment within Parañaque’s Entertainment City. Exclusively designed by internationally renowned Michael Friebrich Design, Crown Towers Manila was a winning project at the International Hotel & Property Awards 2016. The property claimed the Hotel Over 200 Rooms Award for Asia-Pacific. The hotel has seen the brand new development of 500 luxury rooms, suites, and villas, as well as the Silks Restaurant, bar, lobby and spa. It has become a shining example of the Michael Fiebrich design teams’ excellence. Located within the Bayshore development, this project was an exciting opportunity to revitalise the renowned Crown Resort. Strong architectural interiors and bold graphic statements are part of Crown Resort’s image. The design infused these ideas with the regional elements and materials of the Philippines by working with local manufacturers and artisans; combining brand recognition with a strong sense of place. Dramatic bronze screens and marble inlay floors provide bold patterns that act as a backdrop for the lobby’s vibrant art installations, while double height silk draperies break up lines and add texture. Opulent lighting from Ricardo Lighting washes the site with warmth; custom designed chandeliers provide soft curves and form.

Combining architectural influences, streaks of light along the ceiling and a rush of either bold blue or warming muted reds, the design team have created sensual, enlivened spaces. Impressively large beds in guest rooms are framed from above with inset ceiling lighting fixtures that maintain a masculine character. The entire team at Michael Fiebrich Design is trained architecturally, making their approach to interior design very 3-dimensional and tactile, with strong structural qualities. The Hotel’s guest rooms, suites and villas follow suit with strong but simple architectural statements acting as a canvas for bold colour, pattern accents and a palette of rich materials. The guest room space planning and amenities were all executed with luxurious comfort and convenience in mind and cater to the guests every desire and whim. “My favourite aspect of this entire project is how the hotel’s Crystal Villas follow suit with the strong but simple architectural statements of the Crown Towers Resort. They act as a hugely exciting canvas for bold colour, exotic pattern accents and a palette of rich materials,” said Michael Fiebrich. Fiebrich relates his personal style to the sense of excitement or serenity and relaxation. He told design et al “The basic tenets of great design always apply to our work- timelessness, elegance, comfort, functionality and an understanding of service operations- but we try to ensure that our projects also have a sense of escapism. We feel that great design should always make the mind travel, whether it’s to a place of relaxation and serenity or excitement and activity or anything in between. As long as this mantra is followed, the designs we provide have less to do with a personal style and more to do with the clients goals and objectives. I want my work to always inspire pleasure, comfort, and an experience beyond the obvious.”

“As Designers, we take inspiration from everything around us from nature to fashion to architecture, but the wonderful opportunity to travel extensively and experience different cultures and countries first-hand for our projects has provided our team with the most creative inspiration.” said Fiebrich. Michael Fiebrich Design is an established, full service architectural interior design firm with strongly developed specialities in guest room design, speciality suites, spas, and innovative dining, bar and entertainment venues. With 20 years of experience in hotel, resort and residential design, the Michael Fiebrich Design team has worked with the most renowned groups and professionals in the industry and have built a reputation serving the most notable projects and demanding global clients. Their goal is to always create timeless spaces that are appropriate and responsive to the individual client and market needs. Comfortable working in any style from cutting edge contemporary to transitional or classic, this firm is truly entrepreneurial. He has won numerous design awards, has been widely published and has built a reputation serving some of the world’s most iconic properties and demanding global clients, always dedicated to providing enlivened spaces that offer a sensory appeal, whether its objective is to excite, entertain or relax. He is a consummate Texan, an avid creator and your obsessed host in the design process, whether the project calls for elegant, casual, subtle or dramatic. Fiebrich believes that the International Design and Architecture Awards “provide a platform that promotes the sharing and appreciation of our industry and our work, which is paramount to all our success and growth as designers. It makes us all better designers to see and be inspired by what our peers are achieving.”

MEYER DAVIS DESIGNS SEAMLESS PHYSICAL EXPERIENCES TAILORED TO THEIR CLIENT’S INDIVIDUALITY

Located inside Colorado’s Four Season’s Resort and Residences, The Remedy is the ideal destination in Vail to unwind, socialize and imbibe. The provocative bar program serves up playful concoctions, inventive elixirs and a twist on classic cocktails reflective of the bar’s namesake. Reimagined by New York City design studio Meyer Davis, The Remedy Bar was a winning project at the International Hotel & Property Awards 2016. Meyer Davis claimed the Bar/Club/Lounge Award with the eccentric mountain hideaway design. This renovation transformed the resorts classic lobby lounge into an entirely new space featuring three distinct areas offering multiple lounging and dining options. The updated space features modern, movable furniture in warm earth tones, rich textures and materials indigenous to Colorado, from beetle-kill stump stools to tables made of reclaimed cedar. The result is a setting suitable for a 21st century apothecary. The Remedy Bar’s distinct décor features eclectic, custommade furnishings and light fixtures throughout. A mix of textiles and tones enhance the surrounding architecture,

industrial cues combined with diverse materials such as white marble, walnut wood and saddle leather highlight the latest in alpine chic. A large, custom-designed, zinc square bar lined with leather creates a shiny centrepiece of The Remedy. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a dramatic backdrop displaying commanding, uninterrupted views of the Rockies. From any of the 150 seats in the 2,450-square-foot space, guests can watch skiers schuss down Vail Mountain. Energized by the mountain views, additional lounge areas throughout the new space allow for private parties and events to gather and offer various adjustable arrangements from communal dining tables and high tops to casual sofas. Tables of walnut are interspersed with industrial elements and stone, creating an eclectic atmosphere that is still clean and modern. The medley of furnishings – modern, industrial and cabin chic – cohesively appeal to the cosy Vail Valley venue. A focal point of the action is the 165” TV adorning a side of the west lounge area. The perfect place for prime sports viewing or to watch the latest ski movies. A large, sleek, fire pit with 360-degree seating in the centre bar area provides another focal point for guests to relax over cocktails.

The redesigned, expansive patio is an ideal spot for relaxing outdoors, complete with inviting furniture and illuminated by large custom fire pits that overlook the heated pool and cabanas. “We were excited to introduce the new cocktail lounge to locals and guests alike,” says Mark Herron, General Manager for Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail. “After extensive local feedback, The Remedy was designed to be ‘Vail’s bar.’” A destination unto its own for drinking and eating, après and sports viewing, The Remedy Bar offers an energetic, casual ‘hang-out’ for locals and visitors alike. A bold new concept in food and beverage, the $2.5 million overhaul provides a refreshing alternative to the typical après ski culture. Meyer Davis designs seamless physical experiences tailored to their client’s individuality, combining principles of great design with a clear vision for the experience they seek to create. The designers consider each new project an opportunity to bring a unique and powerful story to life. Playing with space, form, texture, and light, they develop a visual experience that seeks to compel and inspire. Meyer Davis believes that great design works on multiple levels, weaving together bold design moves and striking details to ensure that once completed, each project makes an immediate and lasting impact.
