A Passion for Excellence

There are many yacht and aviation titles, all focusing on slightly different sectors of the market, but here at Luxe et al we know clearly where our strengths and talents lie and more than that, exactly where our market is. Our aim has always been to bring you a design focused title, in line with the other publications within our group, that focuses more on the design and technology that forms part of that innovation than the technical side of the build. As designers, ship builders, naval architects and prospective purchasers, you have told us this is what you want. However in recent times you have asked us to explore the key elements of design in greater detail and so in recent months and issues we have done just that. This month we continue in this direction;

a permanent step we have taken at your request, to take a closer look at the key components that make up the all-important completed project. We talk once again to the people that are shaping the future of design in both marine and aviation and we look at the direction design is moving towards. We are also looking forward in this issue to May and the annual International Yacht & Aviation Awards, which are now in their 7th year. The Awards have really come of age and the projects are as exciting as they are diverse. Over the coming issues you will have the opportunity to take a closer look at some of the 2017 shortlisted entries. Until next month Joanne

DKT ARTWORKS DKT was formed in 1979 by arts graduates Niki Davies, Steve Keeling and Sean Trowbridge who were excited by the potential they saw in the decorative arts. The early 1980s were a period of re-emerging interest in this field, with DKT very much a part of the revival. They won their first overseas contract in 1981 and opened their first workshop In 1984. They went on to consolidate their on-site expertise and considerably develop the studio aspect of their work, taking on contracts from around the world. As other talented artists and craftspeople joined them, they developed into the much larger and adaptable workforce which remains the essence of the DKT model. Acknowledging this, in 2013 they changed the official company name from Davies Keeling Trowbridge Ltd to DKT Artworks Ltd, representing a current team of around 35, with inhouse expertise spanning painting and sculpture, industrial design, carving, restoration, gilding, textiles, signwriting, specialist decoration, graphics, management and CAD. They have also been collaborating with Italian lighting company, Cantalupi, who will be displaying on their own stand a large artwork, a development of DKT’s layered, mixedmedia technique exploring the effects of variable lighting. DKT will be on stand QAA32 in the Antoine 1er A tent, and, for the first time, they will feature a video of their London Studio, as well as comprehensive supporting images and samples. www.dkt.co.uk

CYGAL ART DECO Handcrafted Timeless Classic Furniture Yachts offer an exciting and always welcome challenge for Cygal Art Deco. Matching the technological advances in this visionary industry, with its ever pushing limits, is their goal on every project. Staying true to the finest traditional techniques proves helpful when even the modern technologies fail to achieve a desired design proposal. Many of their products still rely on organically figuring out new ways to manipulate material manually rather than the use of machines. Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and unparalleled service are at the heart of their business ethics. This has enabled and encouraged their successful collaborations with leading yacht design firms worldwide. Cygal Art Deco make it their mission to provide customers with the best service. This is only possible through their collective enthusiasm; pride and attention to detail that are implemented by the team. Marcus Cygal, inherited the passion for Art Deco from his father, Peter Cygal. Building on a great foundation, he now carries on in the second generation, remaining true to the company philosophy of passion and perfectionism. “Sometimes we will spend days on finding just the right tone in the wood to match the interiors. That means hundreds of samples, changing colours until we have a perfect fit. We start from the inside out - always in close relationship with the client.” - Marcus Cygal www.cygal.com 12 Luxe et al

MSB DESIGN

MSB Design, a Sogeclair Aerospace company, uses precision engineering expertise to create hi-lo tables, crystal, china and flatware inserts, and increasingly tailored stowage items for personal devices.

The robust and functional tables incorporate slim pedestals, a carpet pinch beauty ring ensuring the table fits stylishly to the cabin floor and optional shrouds converting existing shapes to an elegant oval finish. In addition to the manual models, electric pedestal versions can be operated by Bluetooth to change the table’s height from anywhere in the cabin. MSB also offers electric tables with up to four synchronized pedestals for larger dining spaces. “We’ve designed our tables to be incredibly reliable. They are extremely solid with an

intelligent infinite locking feature. This removes concerns about the product breaking if someone is leaning, sitting or sleeping, no matter which height it is set at,” says Shannon Gill, Business Development Director MSB Design. MSB also produces bespoke sets of foam inserts in which to store fragile valuables. Each insert is made of lightweight but strong, high-density foam which is perfectly cut to match the contours, surface and shape of the dishes, glasses, and cutlery, in addition to the dimensions of the cabinets and drawers where the dining ware is stowed. A variety of finishes are available to reflect corporate colours, logos, interior styling or branding.

DESIGNER IN PROFILE...

FRANK SAWKINS Director Czech and Speake Which sector do you specialise in? Bathing – from the hardware of taps and sinks to grooming products and the fragrances we use. Is the Superyacht market an integral part of your business/ large percentage of your market? It certainly has been in the past, we have been in the superyacht sector since I first worked with Jon Bannenberg many years ago. We have supplied many of the world’s best yacht builders, Pendennis, De Vries, Blohm and Voss and more. We are seeing a lot of growth in the sector and a resurgence of interest in our products – especially so in classically styled re-fits. How long have you worked in this sector? Since the early 1980’s Which other sectors do you work in? Primarily high-end residential, but we have also worked on some great projects recently with boutique hoteliers. Working within the Superyacht sector must be different than the domestic and commercial markets, have you found this to be the case? With the size of modern superyachts there are not the challenges there used to be. We used to have to be very careful with the size of fittings – both in brass and ceramic ware as space and weight was always a significant consideration. For the larger projects nowadays that is less of a concern. However we are also able to provide a degree of customisation and alteration of our products to suit the specific requirements of naval architects we work with. Our customers also tend to be similar – very demanding 16 Luxe et al

clients who want the very best in bathroom fittings – that remains the same whether it be on water or terra firma. We need to be sure that our products exceed their requirements in either application. One element which does differ in the marine sector is that of service – we need to be able to provide service and parts anywhere in the world within 48 hours, which we are always willing to do. Please describe any relevant technological advancements that may have influenced your work inrecent years. The sea change is the internet and the amount of information and support we are able to provide our customers and end users by that means. Again, the increasing size of yachts has narrowed the gap between products for a household application or one on the sea. Any trends/design directions moving forward... We are delighted that there seems to be a resurgence in interest for classic yachts and even new yachts in a more classic style. We’ve seen some fantastic re-fits and re-builds lately which would be a perfect fit for some of our products – so we are really excited to be working with some amazing yacht builders on those kind of projects.

Founded in 1964, based on the needs of the harsh Pacific Northwest environment, Westport Shipyard have built and launched a wide variety of vessels from commercial fishing boats and fast passenger ferries to luxurious motoryachts.

Westport was a pioneer in the use of composite materials in yacht and commercial construction and to date have completed a total of more than 140 yachts alongside numerous commercial vessels.

STELLAR PERFORMANCE AND UNSURPASSED COMFORT, EFFICIENTLY CRAFTED TO WORLDCLASS YACHT CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS.

Their original focus on ocean-going craft for the North Pacific commercial fishing fleet has become a cornerstone of their dedication to quality design and construction, and is reflected in the steadfast seaworthiness of each motor yacht Westport have built. Today, Westport builds composite motoryachts, each one an eloquent statement of elegant style, stellar performance and unsurpassed comfort, efficiently crafted to world-class yacht construction standards. Westport’s status as the largest yacht builder in North America, alongside being amongst the largest in the world, yields a number of advantages both in terms of the delivery of the quality of their products as well the level of service they can offer their clients.

Their philosophy as a yacht builder is comparable to that of the aviation industry, a sector where quality is absolutely essential. Builders of private and business jets, for example, follow an extensive, thoroughly detailed development process; new designs are engineered to perform to specific and known standards. Moreover, they all are built in series, simply because no one-off custom aircraft could support the cost of that process. Similarly, series production of motoryachts enables the builder to distribute development costs among several units and therefore justify a sizable investment in naval architecture, styling and interior design, to engineer and document the build down to the last detail, and to acquire the ideal infrastructure-moulds, fixtures, and equipment for unsurpassed precision and control throughout the entire construction process.

24 Luxe et al

Not many builders have the size and resources to make the kind of investment necessary to implement true series production. Westport does. Westport Yachts are equally suited to comparisons of the refinements of the finest mega-yachts and the reliability and durability of the toughest fishing vessels. The 164’/50M Tri-Deck motor yacht is Westport’s latest offering and is an exceptional achievement in large yacht design. It represents eloquent proof of Westport’s leadership in the design and construction of exceptional motor yachts. The WP164 Tri-Deck motor yacht accommodates twelve guests in unsurpassed luxury. With an advanced hull design by renowned naval architect William Garden and styling by Donald Starkey, this sensational composite yacht elevates cruising luxury to a new level. The highly successful collaboration has resulted in the development of a refined hull form for exceptional oceangoing performance, an innovative accommodation plan which balances interior and on-deck spaces for maximum enjoyment and versatility, and a contemporary styling that ensures lasting appeal. Developed using leading-edge threedimensional modelling and structural software used in the aviation industry, the Westport 164 tri-deck motor yacht has met every objective for speed, ride, manoeuvrability, integrity, quality and classing capability. The six-stateroom layout with on-deck full-beam master suite affords everyone a luxurious private retreat incorporating the finest fabrics, cabinetry, stone and leathers. An innovative arrangement includes a top-deck VIP suite with its own sun deck, a large formal dining room adjacent to the commercial-grade galley and a garage aft for tenders and water toys. The Westport 164’ Tri-Deck has been designed for entertaining and relaxed socializing, the salon opens to a large covered aft deck with lounge, conversation areas and wet bar. As with every Westport yacht, the 164 delivers the uncommon luxuries of predictable performance, on-time delivery and a full complement of equipment and features for immediate enjoyment.

13 YEARS AGO HE FOUNDED GILMORE GROUP, SYNTHESIZING THE KEY DISCIPLINES OF INTERIOR DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE, BRANDING, AND INDUSTRIAL DESIGN WITHIN A SINGLE AGENCY.

Arthur Gilmore is a visionary and brand designer with more than 30 years of experience managing design programs for leading brands around the world. Arthur has always believed that in order to “bring brands to life,” it is crucial that a holistic strategy is in place to ensure that all of a brand’s touchpoints deliver on the brand’s promise. So, 13 years ago he founded Gilmore Group, synthesizing the key disciplines of interior design, architecture, branding, and industrial design within a single agency. His expertise and cross-industry experience in strategy development, design concept exploration, human factors, and engineering has helped bolster over 40 brands. Aerion Corporation founded in 2002, has invested more than $100 million in R&D, much of it in conjunction with NASA and other prominent aerospace research organisations, to develop concepts for a family of efficient supersonic jets. Over that time, it has developed, flown and proven supersonic natural laminar flow airfoils that reduce wing friction drag by as much as 80 percent, and overall airframe drag by as much as 20 percent. These efforts have culminated in the Mach 1.5 AS2 business jet, capable of crossing the Atlantic or Pacific nearly twice as fast as today’s subsonic jets. Aerion Corporation sent Gilmore Group a request for a competitive set of design concepts for its supersonic Business Jet, the AS2. Calling on its top form-givers and visualisation artists, industrial designers, and engineers, the Gilmore Group team challenged itself to match the jet’s interior design with the aircraft’s amazing performance. 32 Luxe et al

Gilmore Group set out to create interior design that embodied the absolute pinnacles of performance and luxury. In the process, the team designed concepts that covered the gamut from traditional to futuristic. The AS2 is different than any airplane that has come before, principally in terms of aerodynamics and sheer performance. Its outline is the new shape of practical and efficient supersonic flight. A supersonic natural laminar flow wing and other dragreducing features set it apart. In traditional subsonic airplanes, wingspan and fuselage length are roughly equal. The AS2 is characterised by relatively short, thin wings and a long fuselage, much like some supersonic fighters, and for similar reasons. The Aerion wing vastly reduces friction drag and the Aerion fuselage minimises wave drag. For all its outwardly different looks, it is in other respects conventional, using the very best of modern structural materials and assembly technologies, as well as advanced systems for propulsion, flight control, environmental control, and more. Supersonic aerodynamics dictate a unique non-constant cross section cabin, which is widest in the aft cabin and tapers forward. In the aft half of the cabin, width and height are equivalent to some of today’s best-selling long-range jets. Throughout the cabin, Aerion designers are able to provide the individual space and comfort travellers expect in a top-ofthe-line business jet. Individual seats are equivalent in size to those in today’s large, long-range jets, as is seat pitch—the distance between opposite seats—providing room to stretch out and relax. With interior design by Arthur Gilmore, Ena Yang and Kevin Kleyla, the Gilmore Group designed 3 geo-cultural concepts (North American, European, Asia/China) as well as a futuristic concept for Aerion’s AS2 supersonic business jet. The idea was to bridge the gap that exists between what customers will spend for a new Aerion Supersonic Business Jet and the experience they will receive, the interior design needs to accommodate their wishes. Their first step was to micro-target high net worth individuals in discrete geographic areas, understand their desires, and translate the findings into strategic concepts. Gilmore Group’s research team drove the process by creating inspirational image boards of the transportation industry’s elite, and identifying culturally specific iconography, colour palettes, and materials that would direct the materials and finishes selection. The design team built on this by developing ultra-high-end designs to meet the desires

of their geo-market customers. For the North American market, the designers landed on a ‘conventional’ design with conservative styling. The Asia/China market concept was ‘high-touch’ and sported many culturally derived design aspects. The Gilmore Group’s work for the European/Russian geo-cultural market embodied a modern take on ‘high-tech.’ The ‘Future World’ concept shows a world in which technology is ubiquitously integrated into the environment and advanced fabrication materials are utilised. After developing the designs, the larger hurdle is to implement them into the aircraft given the small manufacturing runs (as required by their micro-targeting). This can be done viably using today’s technology and rethinking the production process. The use of solid modelling, 3D printing, and CNC machining will allow for limited production fabrication of all ‘touch’ surfaces and features. These will then be seamlessly integrated onto the FAA approved structures and allow for the true customisation while still maintaining production feasibility. Meeting structural and FAA regulations would not represent an issue, as all structural engineering would remain a constant in the 3 geo-market designs (the “Future World” concept would be a bit outside this thinking).

In other words, the personalisation of business jet interiors goes beyond being purely surface-cosmetic. This is the difference between selecting the seat fabrics and having completely redesigned seats, offering much more power of choice to the customer. The group’s favourite aspect of designing the interiors was the early concept phase, in which they explored all the materials, finishes, colours, and textures that would be suited for each geo-cultural design. The Gilmore Group successfully embodied each geo-cultural market and catered to different tastes in the design of each concept interior. The 3 geo-cultural concepts represent a future where limited production fabrication technologies will allow higher degrees of personalisation. Technologies such as: CNC, 3D printing and stereolithography are all readily available today but not necessarily widely adapted. The Gilmore Group’s concepts cater towards consumers who expect more personalisation than ever before. Fabrication of custom interiors like theirs is made viable by these technologies. By adapting limited production fabrication methods, the private aviation industry may shift away from mass-manufacturing, and can redefine what ‘custom’ means for jet owners. Aerion has set a target of certifying the AS2 in 2021 and placing it into service in 2023.

AT 61M JUST J IS THE LARGEST YACHT HAKVOORT HAVE BUILT TO DATE, AND SHE IS TRULY A TRIUMPH OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.

With a shipbuilding tradition dating back to the 1700s, the Dutch company, Hakvoort Shipyard, has built 45 luxury superyachts over the past three decades. Starting with a series of aluminium Striker sports fishermen and the yacht Tonga, Hakvoort has grown in recognition among the world’s most refined owners, naval architects and designers. Located in the traditional Dutch town of Monnickendam, just north of Amsterdam, Hakvoort’s facilities have expanded to meet market demand, most recently with a new facility across the harbour. The yard builds yachts up to 65 metres and all joinery requirements are taken care of by its in-house furniture company called Unlimited Interiors. At 61m Just J is the largest yacht Hakvoort have built to date, and she is truly a triumph of design and construction. Her creation is a combination of distinctive overall style, a concept with genuinely exceptional attention to detail and a first-class technical foundation. Despite her significant volume and fivedeck configuration, Just J’s remains streamlined and elegant on the outside. Her overall profile is truly impressive, with several stand-out elements. These include her enormous windows, an elongated look achieved by the partially closed foredeck and excellent balance between her superstructure and hull, a comparably large observation area on the sundeck, and a spectacular pool with integrated contraflow jet. 40 Luxe et al

The owner made significantly contributions to the design of the yacht and the result is that the final product has a unifying style that is contemporary modern, with much of the panelling, trimming and woodwork being more classical. Every lounge and stateroom are naturally and dynamically open to the surroundings, and there are panoramic views in every direction. The interior and exterior on each of the luxury decks features a coherent style and colour matrix, while remaining true to the overarching style. The main deck is the most formal of Just J’s’ five levels. The dining room, saloon and lobby are characterised by deep blue, silver and off-white tones. With the integration of state-of –the art technology the grand central lift and staircase, which connect all the decks, is an impressive centre-piece. The beautiful main lobby is a gateway to the luxurious guest quarters. The five magnificent suites (including one VIP) feature characteristic onyx back led lighting (others are found in the owners’ deck lounge and on the central staircase). Each suite has a shared neutral background colour overlaid with a unique accent tone of orange, purple, light blue, navy blue and beige. The spacious bathrooms are finished in luxurious materials with corresponding colour schemes. Double blinds on the oversized windows, and their orientation forward, ensure complete privacy. The owners’ deck provides a complete retreat as a private apartment. It is located above the main deck, with the novel inclusion of a lounge with a gentlemen’s club ambiance – including a well-furnished bar. This space is characterised by warm, earthy reds and oranges. The owners’ suite comprises a dedicated master hallway which opens on two individual dressing rooms, which in turn lead to separate bathrooms. The hallway also connects directly to the massive master bedroom. This extravagant semi-circular room is bordered on three sides by windows, which open onto a private outdoor area forward. The bedroom is capped with a domeshaped ceiling that consists of concentric circles ending in a skylight, which the designer has termed “a private Pantheon of space and airiness”. Lying in bed, one can look up at the stars while enjoying vistas through the windows all around – an almost unlimited view on the ocean and the sky. Just J’s’ bridge deck is typified by aqua tones and vivid green-blue which connect to the water all around. The spacious lounge here is an ideal area for socialising and even comprises a 96-inch screen large enough for a small cinema. Further aft is another phenomenal seating space,

offering even more family comfort in an al fresco setting. The bridge forward is adjacent to the office and the captain’s quarters. Although quite elevated, it offers outstanding visibility. Just J’s has an astonishing array of outdoor spaces for every type of activity. The comfortable sun deck comprises a stress-free lounge with plenty of seating space underneath the arch, as well as a bar and a day head. The stark blue details in this area are beautifully offset against the pure white of the yacht. The adjacent combination whirlpool bath and swimming pool features custom-made tiling designed by the owners. The owners’ private deck forward of the master bedroom comprises a private Jacuzzi and breakfast nook completely hidden from view from above or below, while the owners’ deck aft is a consummate alfresco dining area centred on an impressive circular table that seats up to 14 people.

Just J’s’ lower deck contains two guest cabins, a smaller twin room and one larger guest space consisting of a dedicated hallway, a separate bathroom and toilet, and a bedroom with queen-sized bed. This area is highly versatile: the two cabins can function as a family suite when parents wish to sleep in the same area as their children. Alternatively, the twin cabin can be used by nannies or other staff members. The gym on the lower deck aft is reached by stairs leading down from the main deck. The modified tender garage serves as additional recreation space. When the toys are in the water or stowed away, the shell doors can be opened to create a beach club, which can be further enhanced with inflatable sofas. There are also integrated swimming stairs offering easy access to the water. In addition, there is a great deal of additional storage space for watersport gear underneath the garage. The various mechanical functions of the yacht are grouped into dedicated areas, making maintenance a breeze. While the lower deck is home to the main galley and crew quarters, there is a second crew pantry and mess on the tank deck. This offer major benefits in terms of organisation and noise: with crew working and the mess being potentially in use 24 hours a day, the distance from the crew quarters means there is no interference with people’s sleep. The exterior and interior comes from the drawing boards of Sinot Yacht Design. Naval architecture, construction and engineering design for this project is done by Diana Yacht Design.

“After evaluation from a large panel of customers and specialists in luxury goods, Pegasus Design style intention has been selected,” said Frederic Lemos, head of Private and Business Aviation. “Our in-house design team will now work closely with Pegasus Design to establish a new standard of VIP cabin interiors on the private and business aviation market, ensuring that the H160 will propose the same level of excellence, innovation, and emotion inside and out” he added.

“Thanks to more than 200 hours accumulated in flight-testing and with the achievement of this formal programme milestone, we have been able to confirm several key design assumptions and even exceed some of them against a real-life environment”, said Bernard Fujarski, Senior Vice President in charge of the H160 programme. “With the helicopter’s flight envelope now fully opened, we are confident that our next-generation helicopter will set new standards of flight experience for passengers and crews”, he added. During its ongoing flight-test campaign, carried out with two prototypes in the company’s main site in Marignane, France, the H160 demonstrated exceptionally low vibration levels along with remarkable aircraft stability levels, setting new benchmarks in the field.

“The H160 is a natural choice as it embodies our company’ standards of high quality, safety and innovation” said Capt. Raman Oberoi, COO of Falcon Aviation. “The H160 is to set new standards for VIP travelling and we look forward to offering this exclusive aircraft to our loyal customers” he added.

“Vibration levels have been a key objective since the launch of the programme, and observed results give us confidence that the H160 will set new comfort standards for all missions segments, from EMS to passenger transport or private and business aviation. We can’t wait for our customers to experience this exceptional level of comfort themselves”, said Bernard Fujarski. The next step of the flight campaign was to focus on hot weather trials, which took place over the summer, followed by continued performance testing of the Arrano engines – now equipping both prototypes – as well as cold weather tests later in the year. A third prototype will join the flight-test programme to support the certification process ahead of the H160’s entry into service. This prototype (PT3) will join its fellow aircraft in 2017 and will essentially be employed to develop the different mission configurations, testing cabin interiors and options that will be available to customers. In October 2015 Airbus Helicopters launched a design contest with 5 designers competing to create the H160 VIP cabin interior.

In May 2016 Airbus Helicopters and Falcon Aviation signed a letter of intent for a VIP version of the H160.

“We are proud that Falcon Aviation has chosen to be among the first customers of the H160, and I want to thank Falcon Aviation personally for putting trust into our latest product” said Guillaume Faury, Airbus Helicopters CEO. “With the H160, our goal is to set the benchmark in a variety of mission segments, including Private & Business Aviation. The market response to the aircraft has been very positive so far and we will be up to our customers’ expectations.” The H160 offers an ultimate VIP experience with its sleek lines and an interior design that highlights the passenger comfort provided by the low sound levels, excellent visibility with its panoramic windows and excellent stability in flight. With the most extensive range of helicopters dedicated to the private and business aviation, Airbus Helicopters is the unrivalled market leader with 33% of the fleet currently in service. The H160 will pioneer a brand new industrial model, improving competitiveness and customer satisfaction with the final assembly being performed in 18 weeks instead of 36 for the previous generation. Having partnered with Latécoère Services for a state of the art integrated final assembly line for which the first station was implemented at the end of 2016, the H160 is gearing up to its serial production. This automated moving flow line will be comprised of two production lines, each equipped with several workstations capable of assembling the different H160 configurations.

WITH THE MOST EXTENSIVE RANGE OF HELICOPTERS DEDICATED TO THE PRIVATE AND BUSINESS AVIATION, AIRBUS HELICOPTERS IS THE UNRIVALLED MARKET LEADER WITH 33% OF THE FLEET CURRENTLY IN SERVICE.

The H160 opens a new chapter in the history of Airbus Helicopters. Joining the product range between the H145 (formerly EC145) and the H175 (formerly EC175), this innovative medium helicopter becomes the first new member of the H generation. The entire design was based on one overriding goal: to create added value for customers in terms of performance, economic competitiveness, safety and comfort. Cleaner and quieter, the H160 is a big step forward in environmental conscientiousness. In July 2016 Airbus Helicopters announced the validation of the H160’s aeromechanical configuration – a crucial milestone allowing the programme teams to confirm some key aspects of the next-generation, twin-engine helicopter’s design and performance.

The H160 support and services strategy relies on the digital continuity development process implemented from the beginning of the program. Digital servicing enables a seamless management of operators’ evolving business whether it is airworthiness, maintenance, material management, or training. The H160 will implement a paperless multi-support philosophy, enabling a quick and accurate information exchange and allowing their customers to make decisions faster. With the recent signature of the full-flight simulator partnership with Thales and Helisim, Airbus Helicopters also wants to ensure best in class safety from entry into service for its future customers.

TIM FAGEN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN MANAGER – BOMBADIER BUSINESS AIRCRAFT

Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience etc.). I hold Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. My earliest professional design experience was in technology and consumer products, and also user-interface design - back in the early days of the internet. I joined the aerospace field first in commercial aircraft – the focus was on the design of modular aircraft interior systems – this created a strong technical base which remains very important in my current work. I was very attracted to business aviation because of both the luxury and personalization element – each aircraft being tailored to a specific customer’s need and taste. I worked on special projects such as flight deck design, before shifting to business jet completions definition as Designer and Customer Account manager - working directly with aircraft owners and operators to define the completion of their particular aircraft. This was super interesting work and very valuable towards understanding our customers’ needs and the wide variety of ways they use our aircraft to advance their business and personal endeavours. I am now focused again on product development, leading Bombardier Business Aircraft’s Industrial Design team to define complete aircraft interiors for our entire aircraft family.

user needs through their interaction with the aircraft is critical in creating the perfect cabin experience. From correct ergonomics, aesthetic beauty, fit and finish, and attention to small almost-hidden details that might be discovered only by the client - these are increasingly significant considerations that can be a competitive advantage in the market. Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2016 and beyond. A strong theme in business aircraft is the increasing demand for technology – not tech ‘gadgets’, but technology that seamlessly supports the passengers in their daily tasks. For example, Bombardier is the first OEM to offer worldwide high speed Internet connectivity to match the worldwide range of our Global aircraft. The Bombardier Ka-Band system allows passengers to stream content, stay connected, speak with friends and loved ones - exactly as if they were at home or in the office. We feel this is an example of the right type of tech implementation: quietly embedded capability that lets you go about your lifestyle without compromise.

What direction do you feel design is moving towards in general terms?

The technology theme involves not only user-focused communications technology and connectivity, but also in the development of new materials and design processes. Lightweight materials and new manufacturing processes like 3D printing can and will have an important role to play in future aircraft.

I think the overall trend in luxury design is in the art of creating complete and unique experiences, rather than simply designing products. Understanding and anticipating

Another key element in our business is attention to detail. We are often inspired by other luxury segments - such as fashion, automotive design, and architecture - that

52 Luxe et al

help us find opportunities to provide a deeper and richer experience. For example, designing the sound and feeling when you close a car door can deliver a much more satisfying experience than simply the visual beauty of the vehicle. Luxury auto makers have done this for years and we have employed these principles with the Challenger 650 aircraft and the Global 7000 aircraft. There is so much opportunity for sound and tactile feedback to reinforce the luxury visual experience on our products and create a more emotional connection between aircraft and passenger. The overall theme for our design team is delivering uncompromised experiences. This means starting from a vision of how the product should work, how it makes the user feel, what experience it should deliver - then working backwards to find the technical solutions and details that will deliver that experience. On the Global 7000 aircraft for example, we carefully researched and tested through prototypes the best dining experiences, the perfect sleeping environment, the most comfortable seating geometry. Maintaining this vision sets the requirements, both functional and visual, for the design, engineering and fabrication of the aircraft. What projects are you currently working on? I am currently working on the development of our Global 7000 aircraft. The Global 7000 is a game-changing aircraft that will define a whole new category for business jets. The Global 7000 is the first and only purposebuilt four-zone aircraft in the world, and it will deliver unmatched performance, flexibility, and comfort.

SLIM BOURICHA PRESIDENT - LYNX YACHTS

Please give us some detail on your background (i.e education, experience) I was born on the Mediterranean coast in Sfax, south of Tunis. Growing up my summers were spent on our six metre family boat and I’ve been a yacht enthusiast ever since. Now, my wife and I cruise with our sons for a few weeks every summer. I have a mechanical engineering degree from George Washington University in America and my passion for this field has seen me go from operating a shipyard for commercial vessels to founding Lynx Yachts, a shipyard that specializes in revolutionary, smart yachts. What projects are you currently working on? We are working on several different projects at present, most of which are top secret so I can’t reveal much about them unfortunately. I can share that we are working on a 37m custom yacht from the Lynx Classic line. It’s for a European family who enjoy spending long periods of time on board, so we are working to create the ideal vessel to match their lifestyle: comfortable communal spaces, areas with a lot of privacy, a spacious beach platform from which to enjoy the sea views, and other exciting new ideas. But that is all I can say at the moment! What projects have you recently completed? The last two projects that we completed at Lynx were both yachts from the YXT series: the 24m YXT ONE and the 21.4m YXT 20, which was launched in July 2016. What companies have you worked with for the above projects ? We have a talented internal engineering department and design team at LYNX,

however for the YXT ONE and the YXT 20 we collaborated with Diana Yacht Design on the engineering and with designer Franck Darnet of Darnet Design for the interiors. When it comes to the interiors, particularly with our custom line, we are always happy to work with our clients’ preferred designer. Where do you feel the superyacht industry is heading over the coming years in terms of the market – i.e. will it grow or contract? Will it be more specialised in some manner? I believe that the superyacht industry is growing and will continue to do so. In recent years some market segments have performed better than others. There is obviously always a lot of publicity surrounding the larger megayachts and anything 100m+, but I think that the more ‘compact’ segment of the superyacht market – the 24m to 40m segment – has been getting stronger. It will continue to grow in popularity over the next few years as a new demographic of client are attracted to yachting and existing owners perhaps invest in slightly smaller, more economical models. Where do you feel superyacht design is heading in terms of interior and exterior schemes? As with any kind of design, both superyacht exterior and interior design go through cycles and are influenced by the trends outside the industry. With exterior design right now, there is a trend for yachts that will be ‘instant classics: elegant silhouettes with modern flair. As for interiors, I see people stepping away from ‘rich interiors’ and lavish stereotypes in favour of lighter, more understated designs. Layouts are also becoming more intelligent. At Lynx, we can spend hour upon hour on the tiny details.

What are the main challenges you face as shipbuilders in the current yacht market? The aim of every shipbuilder is to get to know our clients, anticipate their needs and build them a yacht that lives up to everything they have dreamed of. The real challenge lies in not only listening to our clients and understanding what they want but anticipating the things that they don’t know they want yet. What are your favourite recent projects please describe key elements. I really love working on our YXT line. There are so many possibilities we can offer our clients and this brings with it exciting design challenges. The YXT line has the feel of a commercial vessel but is the finish of a luxury yacht; the solid seaworthiness you would expect of the former and the comfort of the latter. Combining these two very different styles was certainly a challenge but judging from the positive feedback we have had, I think we have more than achieved this. What products/services could you not live without? My credit card, a smartphone, an iPad and a laptop. With these items you should be able to achieve anything from anywhere! What are your current plans for 2017? We are working on various new projects for each of the different lines: Classic, Adventure, Custom and YXT. We are set to present the latest project from the Adventure series, the Adventure 32, to the market this summer. We are exploring the possibilities of this yacht, designed for long periods at sea with impressively large spaces on board and some clever new features.

S U MARINE Su Marine has its roots firmly in traditional wooden craft building, over time they have evolved into a pioneering company in the manner of their woodwork, its quality of worn and its stainless quality. Su Marine built Turkey’s first composite boat and was one of the first to apply cold moulding – a laminated wood technique. Su Marine acquired a new yard location in 2006 and moved into their new facility in 2008. They joined forces with 3 other partners, each of course avid sea lovers, who are operating in different focuses within the company.

THE YACHT TAILORS In today’s modern-day yachting industry, large shipyards can seem to dominate with huge facilities and numerous employees, Su Marine sits in a different position. As a ‘yacht tailor’, they keep the company size fairly small, focusing on maintaining quality, discipline and financial stability.

builder. Unfortunately, due to the owner’s wishes, Su Marine are not at liberty to share further information on the project. It is scheduled to be delivered in Summer 2017. •

12m commuter yacht This is the latest of their commuter series which have been very successful for business professionals that look to avoid the Istanbul traffic. Power on this latest version has been increased from 2x315 HP to 2x 400HP. They are expecting upwards of a 35 knot top speed. It is scheduled to be delivered in Spring 2017.

2 classic sailing dinghies Glued lap strake clinker plywood construction with teak planking. Su Marine consider these as two little jewels – an unbelievable amount of work went into them featuring an extreme amount of detailing. They are scheduled to be delivered in early Spring 2017.

Su Marine’s last completed yacht was their 33m sailing yacht ‘In Love’ and are working on several projects at present: •

36m classic motor yacht This yacht has a steel hull and a wooden superstructure. The wooden superstructure is an innovative approach to keeping costs down but is also intended to give the yacht a ‘soul’ as well as a romantic feel that they feel other materials just don’t provide. It is scheduled to be delivered in Summer 2017.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RIGHT MATERIALS Su Marine build their own interiors and prefer to use real woods, textiles, leathers and stones versus manufactured ones, as they believe this makes the finished product more inviting. That said, in the past they have also successfully used manufactured veneers with great results.

FACING TODAY’S CHALLENGES There are few companies considered competitors for Su Marine within Turkey as far as technical and interior build quality goes. In their pursuit of excellence, they have also internally benchmarked themselves against well-established European yards. When asked about the today’s biggest challenges as a shipbuilder, Timothy Grunberg, the founding partner and general manager of Su Marine, stated: ‘There is a very high number of yachts on the second-hand market at very low prices. A lot of potential clients consider some of the newer used boats instead of waiting an additional 2 years for one to be built. Economic downturns clearly affect us very quickly as a yacht is seen as a pleasure item rather than investment property. Yachts surprisingly hold their values quite well.’ 54 Luxe et al

33m modern sailing yacht Su Marine are excited to be building a sailing yacht with modern lines as it’s an opportunity to showcase their diversity, despite being known more as a ‘classic’ yacht

Whilst Su Marine work with a number of local and foreign suppliers and contractors on a consistent basis and consider them more like team members, the material suppliers often change as per clients’ wishes. A typical yacht of 35-45m in length can take Su Marine anywhere between 18-26 months to build, and they pride themselves strongly on their ability to deliver on time and on budget.

LOOKING AT THE FUTURE With a fluctuating and unstable global economy, the next few years are proving to be difficult to predict for the superyacht industry, when asked about what Timothy foresees in the future, he said: ‘The superyacht industry is at an interesting crossroads. It seems the 70+ meter category is doing quite well whereas the 50-70m category has less interest. As we are on the smaller side at the 3050m category we seem to have strong demand due to prospective clients looking for yachts that are more economical to operate (less crew, less fuel, less insurance premiums etc.) but still offer most of the amenities they are accustomed to.’ With an unprecedented amount of deliveries for 2017, Su Marine is set to have a busy year focusing on maintaining the high quality, level of detail and punctuality that superyacht owners have come to expect from this modern day ‘yacht tailor’.

GUIDO ORSI PRESIDENT - TANKOA YACHTS S.P.A.

What projects are you currently working on? We are now working on the project S501, a 49.9m displacement yacht under 500 gt in light alloy 5083. The achievement of a great result has been to remain under the target of 500 GT still having the deck free from the tender and high ceiling all around the yacht. Folding bulwark on the large aft deck and windows which are floor to ceiling let the Owner and his Guest live on board constantly in contact with the sea. The Master cabin has folding balcony to enjoy the freshness of the air and the smell of the sea directly from inside the cabin. The large sundeck with the Jacuzzi and glass bulwark is the best place to sunbathe in extreme privacy while navigating at 16 knots. There are several water toys to complete the equipment of the yacht. Also, the S701; 71m displacement, steel hull and light alloy 5083 superstructure yacht. The GT on this yacht is huge, around 1.600 tons. S701 has a large beach club area, which features a sea view sauna with glass door to let the Guest jump directly into the water, a hammam and a large Gym. Direct access to the main deck saloon veranda from the sea is through the beach club, stepping on board from the tender onto the aft platform. The Master cabin is on the sun deck and the entire deck is dedicated to the Owner. A personal Jacuzzi tub is just in front of his 180 degrees sea view cabin. A touch and go helipad for quick transfer from/to the yacht is convertible in a lovely dance floor or sunbathing area equipped with chaise lounge. The S603, a 60m displacement, steel hull and light alloy 5083 superstructure is another project, amongst others, that we are following and developing in Tankoa in this moment. A stunning plumb bow

56 Luxe et al

motor yacht with an extremely nice looking profile and silhouette. This motor yacht is equipped with a bow helipad for touch and go landing. The top speed is of 16.5 Knots and the long range of over 4.500 nautical miles is granted at 12.0 knots. The upper deck is the Owner’s private area with bedroom, dressing, personal laundry, office. On the same deck are the wheelhouse, the Captain cabin and a Jacuzzi pool. On the lower deck aft, is the beach club with toys storage, diving equipment and the tender garage. This area has folding platform for the contact with the sea. What projects have you recently completed? The S693- M/Y Suerte, 69.3m displacement yacht with steel hull and light alloy superstructure. She has been built with double class survey, high technology, state of the art electronics and entertainment audio video equipment. 4K curve TV is already installed on board. Attention has been paid to the Guest and Crew circulation flow to avoid interference between the Crew and the privacy of the Guest on board, letting the crew have some hidden passage to reach the cabin for the room service without the need to cross other area, directly from the Crew quarters. Suerte, our completed and delivered project S693, has a top speed of 16.5 Knots even if higher speed has been reached during the sea trial. The target for Suerte can be defined as SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound. This is our philosophy. To build a yacht together with the Owner to make his dreams come true. What companies have you worked with for the above projects? To build these large yachts and develop

new concepts, there is the need to collaborate with well established firms within the industry. We have work with Studio Ruggiero as Naval Architect for the performances of the yachts and the safety on board / Studio Paszkowski Design for the beautiful line and the interior design of our already delivered and new presented project. Faser Electronics for the A/V entertainment on board and electronics for navigation and surveillance, Intersona for the avoiding of vibration and acoustic insulation, Vega Yacht Painter for the preparation, fairing and painting of the entire yacht, Caterpillar engines, Northern Light generators, Hug soot burner, Viraver glass, Vosper Naiad for the stability system and bow thruster. Names which do not need a presentation as they are well established in the Yacht industry field. A package of repetitive subcontractors which are familiar to the Management Team of Tankoa and which grant the safety of a well executed job and result. What do you feel is the future for superyacht design? Is to give exclusive exterior and interior design. To make the yacht owner feel he has “one of a kind” and nobody else has, along with trying to reduce delivery time. We feel confident in giving such characteristics, which for us are paramount, because we offer real ‘custom made’ yachts. Everything is entirely produced by artisans. Real expertised craftsmanship, starting with the simple wish of the owner, following the process of realization. This is why we define ourselves‘PARTNER OF YOUR DREAMS.’

NICK WATERS SENIOR LEAD DESIGNER - CRUISERS YACHTS

What projects are you currently working on? 60 Cantius Fly Bridge 54 Cantius Fly Bridge 50 Cantius Coupe. What is your most recently completed project? 54 Cantius Coupe.

What companies did you collaborate with on those projects?

What are your favourite recent schemes? Please describe key elements...

Collaboration between Cruisers Yachts design and engineering team and Patrizio Facheris from Facheris design and DLBA (Donald L. Blount & Associates) Naval Architecture marine engineering. Our CNC tooling needs where graciously met by Marine Concepts and Christensen Fiberglass.

Key elements from our Cantius series interior include:

Are there any key design directions you would like to discuss? Cruisers Yachts is a production yacht builder so we must meet the needs of a broader base of clientele. In our latest “Cantius Series” we asked for input from our dealers and owners to cater to their needs. Taking that input, we have placed emphasis on single level design allowing for easy transition from one area to the next; On the main level, you will find cooking, dining, and entertainment amenities, below you will find a more private area bathed by light from the atrium above, for the owners and VIP guests. Large glass hull side windows keep the lower living area airy and inviting with unique panoramic views. Trends going forwards? Some general trends I see going forward, continue to blur the line between interior and exterior. Transform areas using fold down and slide out features, to increase entertainment options, convert use-specific zones into multi-purpose areas. Blending materials is important: glass, steel, stone, wood and leather. We should strive to Integrate the ever increasing “smart” digital technology into future designs.

1. Easy transitioning between living and entertainment areas 2. 360 degree panoramic views from the salon 3. Easily transform to open up to the elements. 4. Clean linear lines and minimal hardware. 5. Contrasting woods, textures, colors and materials. 6. Multiple entertainment areas including fore deck cocktail lounge /sunbathing area. What products/services could you not love without when designing? The number 1 tools I couldn’t live without are simply a pencil and sheet of paper. You can substitute digital pens and paper however it all starts with an idea and a sketch. Other tools include 3D CAD software Rhino and digital rendering software KEYSHOT. With the ever increasing tight tolerances computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines are a must.

THE CHALLENGES

THE FUTURE

Westport currently builds 34, 38, 40, and 50 meter yachts in a series build.

Westport builds from precision tooling designed to provide multiple options in customer’s needs and pride themselves on constantly listening to feedback, whilst incorporating new features into the build without any slow-down on the build process.

The yachting industry can be a difficult sector to predict, but in an increasingly competitive market, the importance of staying astride advancements and being aware of opportunities is tantamount to success, if not survival.

As a key shipbuilder in the yacht market, Westport face the constant shifting challenges of a modern-day shipyard, having to stay apprised with the ever-changing regulations and requirements, as well as keeping themselves up to speed with new technology being developed and improved. ‘The speed at which new technology is coming at us is a huge challenge and we strive to keep up to date with upcoming technologies. Technology coming out is so sensitive and on a boat you have various elements which we have to be very cognizant of.’ – Ron Nugent, Westport Yachts

Westport Yachts have their own predictions, believing there will be a be growth opportunity in the larger yachts in the 200+ range over the coming years, as well as a focus on battery technology and ‘Green’ technologies.

The most recent project they are currently working on is the new 38m series, of which Hull 1 was delivered this past summer. Currently Hulls 2, 3 and 4 are in build as well. Key elements of the 38m series include: • Wide body • Seakeeper • Gyro Stabilization • Full Beam Master • Fully Integrated Bridge System

TRAY CROW DIRECTOR OF INTERIOR DESIGN - GULFSTREAM AVIATION CORPORATION

What projects are you currently working on? As the director of interior design for Gulfstream, I am proud to lead a team of talented designers who are up to the challenge of creating and delivering the world’s finest aviation experience. That means we balance a wide range of projects every day. We may meet with a client to work with them on their design scheme or we may do research behind the scenes, developing interiors that incorporate the latest technology and reflect the future of interior design. We have more than 30 degreed interior designers who collaborate closely with engineering, as well as the furniture and upholstery craftsmen and women to experiment with new ideas. Right now, we are developing final interior styling details for our two newest aircraft, the Gulfstream G500 and G600. We announced the aircraft in 2014 and have been working closely with our customers to ensure the interior exceeds their expectations. During the announcement event at our headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, we debuted a cabin showcase, a full-scale cabin mock-up that reflected the initial interior design for the G600. We spent the next year inviting our clients to see the showcase and gathering their feedback on it. With their input, in 2015 we revealed a new interior that incorporated their design decisions. Overall, the new interior reflects 200 design changes they helped us make. And we’re still not finished. Throughout the summer, the showcase has been travelling to business aviation airports around the United States, so we can continue gathering feedback on it. When the first G500 and G600 aircraft are

delivered to customers in 2018 and 2019, respectively, they will reflect the work of countless people – clients, designers and engineers alike – who collaborated to create carefully crafted interior that dazzles and delights. Where do you feel aviation design is going in terms of interior schemes?

Is it adaptable? Some of our aircraft can fly up to 14 hours at a stretch, which means the cabin needs to be flexible enough to accommodate a range of activities, whether it’s sleeping, eating, conducting a meeting or just relaxing. It’s one of our key design challenges – ensuring that the space we provide complements the varied lifestyles of its passengers.

While neutral interiors still tend to prevail, we are seeing a rise in interiors with more opulence. A focus on detailed accents, whether it be a highly detailed stitch on a seat accent or a metal inlay in veneer, is becoming more prevalent.

Does it delight? For the most part, our clients see their aircraft as vital business tools, but that doesn’t mean they have to be utilitarian. We want to delight them with the details, a splash of color in a hidden location or a unique stitch pattern that draws the eye.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2016 and beyond:

What are your favourite recent schemes? Please describe key elements.

These are the five key themes we consider when working with our clients to ensure their aircraft exceeds their expectations: Is it timeless? Collaborating with our clients to design an interior and then working with our woodworking and upholstery teams to artfully execute it takes time, so we want to guide our clients to selections that will stand the test of time. Our clients often have an eye on resale value (they wouldn’t be the successes they are if they didn’t), so we want to craft an interior that balances trends with classic details.

Creating memorable interiors is paramount to our success. Most recently, we have been implementing more layering in our interiors. An example is using two veneers, where one complements the other, such as an interplay in contrasts (light and dark) or textures (matte vs. glossy). Another example is using unique upholstery techniques, such as quilted leather or complex tufting and stitching details.

Does it inspire you? Our clients use their aircraft for a wide range of missions, so we want to create a space that energizes and inspires them. Does is exceed our clients’ needs? Gulfstream has always been at the forefront of technology, delivering the best possible products to its customers. The same holds true for interiors. We want our clients to feel like their aircraft is an extension of themselves and reflects their lifestyle.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be? In working with clients, I often advise them to select what they love. Many of our clients spend a significant amount of time in their interiors and they should be surrounded by an interior that delivers the ultimate in comfort, adapts to changing needs during the flight and provides convenient control of the cabin.

Associated Air Center were challenged to create an interior that intrigued audiences as well as captured the height and space of this new aircraft. The design initially originated from the client with the desire to create a thoughtprovoking interior that showcased the height of the A350 airframe. This project was a collaborative effort between the design and engineering teams at AAC, interior designers were Glenda Palacios and Julie Mandrell, who also was responsible for the interior styling. The intent was to create an interior that followed form and function. The inspiration for the design was based around the floor plan, whilst the location of the fireplace and the lattice work were the most influential in the evolution of the interior design. While combining hospitality and residential elements as well aircraft principles Associated Air Center were able to create a space that defines modern luxury. From smoked mirrored tiles and bespoke hardware to 3D printed, plated fretwork and thoughtful expressions of colour and texture, the A350 frame is highlighted from floor to ceiling. The chic light fixture in the lounge and the mindful additions of colour throughout present an ageless interior with a nod to the 60’s. All the elements played an integral role in the mood and versatility of the space. The living area design is particularly in trend with the use of beiges and bronzes with the odd scattering of purple hues which add a vibrant feel to the space. This seamless design creates a dual use for the space whether the customers want to relax or work, they can enjoy both worlds.

The use of other design principles as well as bold additions of colour really create a space that transcends the norm in the aircraft industry. IRIS 3D are the designers that made this interior look like a photograph and give a realistic feel to this concept. Associated Air Center opened their design center in June 2012, with a focus on state of the art VIP custom interior designs. The center serves as the introduction point for Associated Air Center’s customers to delve into the design process to create their custom aircraft interiors on-site in Dallas. The clients preferred tastes are always adhered to as they work closely with the team to ensure their own style is brought into the design – this is the perfect way to express unique personalities through custom interiors.

Codecasa Shipyard first unveiled their Vintage Series at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2011 through the exhibition of the Codecasa 42 – Vintage Series – Hull F73. A resounding success among the industry fans and experts, Hull F73 was awarded Best Interior Design at the Nautical Design Awards 2011. This yacht named M/Y Magari after being sold is now cruising in the Mediterranean.

A SMALL JEWEL OF THE SEA, ABLE TO ASSURE A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE CRUISE IN ANY WEATHER AND SEA CONDITIONS.

Two years later, that success was strengthened through the launch of its sister ship Hull F75, now M/Y Libra, which was completed in July 2013. Based on its predecessor and still representing the distinctive and identifying traits of the Vinatge Series, this hull was also inspired by a classic style and traditional lines. Confirming their strong confidence in this new line of yachts, Codecasa delivered the first unit of the new Codecasa 50 –Vintage Series – Hull C121, now M/Y Gazzella, in summer 2015. The Codecasa 43 - Vintage Series is based on the successful Codecasa 42 metre Vintage Series motor yacht platform. Hull F76 was a natural evolution in this line of yachts.

The yacht has an increased length which was used to expand the aft area, offering more comfortable working and service areas in the garage around the tender. The build followed a “tried and tested project”, with interior designer Tommaso Spadolini working in co-operation with the in-house design team and developed a new layout specifically for Hull F76. Interiors feature light and natural tones including oak and natural stonework to create an understated yet classy effect. The 43 metre F76 has a large full-beam, main deck owner’s suite, which includes space for a private office. This combines with two double cabins and two twin cabins to provide accommodation for a total of 10 guests.

Up on the Bridge Deck, the Captain’s Cabin with an en-suite bathroom is adjacent the wheelhouse, in direct contact with the bridge and separate from the other four crew cabins in the lower deck. Larger and brighter hallways and a panoramic staircase connect the three interior decks. A key design feature that differentiates the 43 Vintage Series from its predecessors is the larger windows that let more light into the interior, from the owner’s suite up to the main saloon and bridge deck saloons. Exterior deck spaces were designed to be ever more comfortable and well equipped with an exterior living area that includes sofas, settees and tables created in the Portuguese Bridge forward the wheelhouse, designed to provide privacy when the yacht is docked stern-to. A generous sun deck is equipped with a Jacuzzi tub, installed far forward. Powered by twin 1,650 horsepower Caterpillar 3512 C main engines, F76 is expected to reach a top speed of 16.5 knots and have a range of 4,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots. The Codecasa 43 Full Beam – Vintage Series, as with the two previous units of Codecasa 42, is another excellent achievement for Codecasa Shipyards. A small jewel of the sea, able to assure a safe and comfortable cruise in any weather and sea conditions, with interior volumes slightly under 500 tons GRT, absolutely remarkable exterior spaces, clean and elegant lines, reasonable consumptions and very high building standards. This coming Summer Codecasa Shipyards will launch another Codacasa 43 Full beam –Vintage Series.

BOMBARDIER IS THE WORLD’S LEADING MANUFACTURER OF BOTH PLANES AND TRAINS. LOOKING FAR AHEAD WHILE DELIVERING TODAY, BOMBARDIER IS EVOLVING MOBILITY WORLDWIDE BY ANSWERING THE CALL FOR MORE EFFICIENT, SUSTAINABLE AND ENJOYABLE TRANSPORTATION EVERYWHERE.

Niki Lauda’s Global Business Jet the new Bombardier Global 7000 has been shortlisted for The International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2017, to be held in Venice this May, in the category of Private Jet Design - Concept The Ferrari Formula 1 World Champion and Bombardier Business Aircraft brand ambassador, currently owns a Global 6000 aircraft, which won the 2015 International Yacht & Aviation Awards prize for best interior in the Private Jet Design Category. The interior of Mr. Lauda’s Global 6000 aircraft elegantly combines handcrafted leather and upholstery details with bold and striking woodwork. The award was presented on May 15 2015, during a gala event at the famed Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Italy. The Global 7000 jet will be the latest in a series of Bombardier business aircraft that Mr. Lauda, an experienced aviator, has owned and operated. “The latest order by Mr. Lauda further demonstrates the widespread appeal of Global aircraft,” said Peter Likoray, Senior Vice President, Sales, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “Once again, we are honoured to have Mr. Lauda as a long-time and loyal Bombardier customer. With its combination of performance and comfort, the Global 7000 business jet will deliver the ultimate flying experience.”

“The Global 7000 aircraft is an incredible business jet in so many ways,” said Mr. Lauda. “The cabin is large and spacious and the four separate zones provide greater comfort, especially for longer trips. With its impressive range and speed, I can easily fly from Vienna to São Paolo, and almost all other stops along the Formula 1 circuit, quickly and efficiently.” Three-time Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda has an extensive history in aviation and is a long-time Bombardier Business Aircraft customer. The Global 7000 aircraft will be the latest in a series of Bombardier business jets that Mr. Lauda has owned and piloted during his career as an aviator. Until recently, Mr. Lauda owned and operated a Global 5000 aircraft and a Challenger 300 jet as his private aircraft, which he frequently used to travel to Formula 1 races around the world from his home base in Austria. The Global 7000 aircraft features the first true four-zone cabin, this aircraft will set the standard for a new category of large business jets, providing unparalleled spaciousness, luxury, and comfort. 7000 business jet will have a range of 7,300 nm (13,520 km) and can connect Geneva to Honolulu and London to Singapore.

For the Interior designers from Bombardier, lead by Hannes Rausch and Veronique Ferrari, the objective for Mr. Lauda’s new business jet was to design a unique, masculine aircraft with universal appeal. Classic pinstripe and hounds tooth patterns - men’s wardrobe staples - were used throughout the aircraft. While Mr. Lauda dresses quite casually, and does not typically wear suits, this design is a reflection of his alter ego, which stems from his family’s background in banking. According to Mr. Rausch, Mr. Lauda’s personal designer, the greater amount of light that enters the cabin through the Global 7000 aircraft’s larger windows allowed the designers to use darker materials for both the veneer and fabric applications. It also allowed them to play with reflection and direction of light throughout the cabin. For this particular project, the new fourth distinct living area offered the opportunity to design a stateroom with a slightly different look and material application while maintaining the elegant design that the owner is accustomed to on his other aircraft. Mr Lauda can rest and relax in the stateroom when he is not piloting the aircraft and use the remainder of the cabin for his business activities. The veneer species that was selected is both eye catching and elegant, and combined with its multi-directional application throughout, is a unique feature in the cabin. They not only applied it on the monuments but because of its elegance, Hannes found it essential to apply it to the galley flooring and in both lavatories. Nevertheless, because of the veneer’s intricate pattern, they took a minimalist approach to the rest of the cabin by working with the same fabrics on many applications. Although it has some very unique features, the aircraft has a classic interior that will remain timeless. Mr. Lauda really loved his current Global 6000 aircraft interior. The new Global 7000 business jet design is a perfect transition from his current aircraft. Mr. Lauda is a wonderful ambassador for both the aviation and design industries. The immensely successful collaboration between himself and Bombardier continues to produce world-class results.
