DESIGNER IN PROFILE WEEKLY SPECIAL

Designer in Profile - Anna Hayman Position within company Owner Company Anna Hayman Designs Website www.annahaymandesigns.com

Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc.) My background is unusual as I am essentially self taught, and have worked in many different professional areas. Before embarking on becoming a print designer I had a small shoe brand, and before that I was a piano teacher. I have also lots of experience in retail, merchandising, display, photography, wholesale, haberdashery and clothing. So this process (I only launched in February 2016) has involved a real gathering up of those skills. How would you describe your personal interior design style?

My signature style is developing as a languid, slightly dark but intricate look, with luxe detailing and historical interest/reference points. I am feverishly interested in trends, however when creating a print, it really comes from within, and what is currently interesting to me. What fascinates me is why certain things are extremely popular, and capture people’s attention so vividly, so this is what I’m looking to do when designing. Pattern is my absolute obsession.

Designer in Profile - Joanna Ramsden Position within company Freelance Designer Company Wools of New Zealand for Crucial Trading Website www.crucial-trading.com

Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc.) I was born and brought up in Yorkshire and France. Always having a natural instinct for anything creative and especially colour, I targeted a career utilising these skills. Initially wanting to be a painter I developed a love for textiles, part of my Yorkshire heritage I suppose and utilised this medium to express my design skills. Following art school I studied Textile Design & Marketing and French which provided the platform for an international career in wool fashion apparel and interior textiles. After graduating I worked for M&S in Paris, before moving to London and working in the Apparel division of Coats Patons Ltd. I then returned to my roots in Yorkshire where I embarked on what has been a happy and successful career in the Wool industry. Working for the International Wool Secretariat (Woolmark) followed by Wools of New Zealand has given me a valuable insight into both the apparel and interior markets.

Designer in Profile - Harold Position within company Designer and Co-Founder Company HAROW Website www.harow.fr

Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc.) For as long as I can remember, I’ve always felt this need to create, build, draw, invent, sculpt, take apart, or to mould things — it’s something visceral. I’ve worked in various fields as a graphic designer, web designer, tattoo artist, interior designer, 3D designer…all while pursuing more personal work like painting, sculpture, or street art. Design is something that I came to relatively recently, and I must say that it’s a field in which I feel entirely free to create, without any boundary. I’ve always been an autodidact in everything I do, and I have this perpetual need to learn, to keep busy, and to feed my thirst for creation, no matter what medium I am working in.
