Stylt Trampoli AB Klaus K was a continuation of a the previous design by Stylt Trampoli in 2005, turning a tired nightclub into a bar and conference/ banqueting/ event space. The original assignment was to create a hotel ‘with style and story’. The client had decided that they wanted to convert an anonymous chain hotel to a modern

Mercè Borrell & Factoria UDA An imposing pre-modernist building houses The Monument Hotel, which consists of a luxurious hotel and Lasarte a three Michelinstarred restaurant. The starting point of the design was the decision of maintaining and making visible the most important elements of the existing pre-modernist building. The Monument Hotel is actually housed in an imposing mansion of neo-Gothic inspiration, the Enric Batlló House, which was built between 12 Design Industry Weekly News


1895 and 1896 by the pre-modernist architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas. The Monument is located on the iconic Paseo de Gracia, the most elegant shopping street in Barcelona and opposite the celebrated Gaudi’s La Pedrera building. Myself and my team are not allowed a personal design style!…it is subject to the client or the designers initial vision, which we then take on and develop. This allows each commission to be individual and unpredictable. Where does your design inspiration come from? I would say art and nature but really it is anything and everything…and the beauty of social media, Instagram in particular. People are confident in ‘exhibiting’ and documenting their surrounds, which is something we directly encourage and embrace on our website turning their images into carpet design. Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2017 and beyond. Can I say creativity 5 times!?!?! If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to product design, what would it be? Take time to explore different view points within the design development stage. I normally make sure a team rather than an individual is part of this particular stage of the process, allowing different creative expressions and approaches to be explored – you normally end up with the best result possible!
