About Elementa Elementa Consulting is an Integral Group company with over 80 employees located at offices in London and Oxford. The wider Integral Group is a 700-strong interactive global network of design professionals in 22 offices, providing a full range of building system design, sustainability consultancy and energy analysis services, with staff widely regarded as innovative leaders in their fields. Every Elementa project is led by a Principal who retains personal responsibility for the overall performance of our services. Principals lead the design direction of their own jobs and also contribute to the development of projects across the company through our design review process. Our Associate Principals are both skilled project managers and accomplished design engineers. They co-ordinate our services and ensure that appropriate resources are assigned to their jobs to meet project needs and our standards of service excellence. Discipline Leads provide technical oversight and co-ordination of specialist resources to the benefit of every project. These include CAD and Revit BIM, Building Physics Analysis, Architectural Lighting, Public Health Engineering, Quality Management, and Commissioning. Additionally, Elementa is able to draw upon the deep expertise and thought leadership of our Integral Group colleagues - in areas including Advanced Daylight Simulation, Laboratory Engineering, and District Energy Systems.

The importance of data analysis is key in reducing research and manufacturing costs. With the rising energy costs, the focus on developing analytical tools and processes has taken priority in recent years. PAT (Process Analytical Technology) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) are two examples which play an important role in the design of new facilities in such a way that it helps reduce facility footprint and speed up the route to market whilst making the manufacturing process more robust, better control of intermediate process stages.

Believing logical thinking and effective communication to be the key to project success, he has proven track record of providing innovative yet practical solutions that encompass efficiency and adaptability. Amongst his responsibilities to the UK board Simon leads the Quality Management and Technical Development of Elementa.
Rui has worked with some of the biggest and leading names in Life Sciences, R&D facilities, Pilot and scale-up plants, Clinical trial and QC labs, GMO and Non-GMO, Bulk and intermediate manufacturing plants covering Sterile/Aseptic/OSD/ Semisolids manufacturing and secondary production facilities. Rui has a strong background in Mechanical and Pharmaceutical Engineering and ensures compliance with all the relevant GMP regulations and standards for different markets and fields of application. 17

Whole Life Carbon Study of MEP Designs
Guidance and Brief Setting
We provide detailed modelling of MEP systems applying the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers Guidance, that was developed by Elementa Consulting.
We have experience developing whole life briefs on projects at all scales, establishing whole life carbon and embodied carbon targets, KPIs, management and reporting protocols.

Community Investment Education + Impact is about our commitment to internal professional training, development, and employee engagement, as well as external outreach and contributions to our local communities. In 2019 we continued to collect data via the All Staff Survey on self-reported hours that employees spent on volunteering inside and outside of work, professional development and personal development activities over the year. Local CSER office champions were asked to gather data on internally hosted trainings and presentations, local campaigns to raise awareness on environmental and/or social issues, and employee-driven charitable contributions. The marketing & communications department continues to track data on conference attendance, external presentations, publications and corporate donations to non-for-profit organisations.

Sustainability Sustainability—the nexus of social, environmental, and economic factors— is imperative in order for our communities to thrive in the future. Our crosscutting consulting services include a focus on health and wellness, comfort and district-scale planning to reduce our use of resources like energy, water and materials, thus reducing carbon emissions. We draw from our extensive experience on LEED Platinum, Net Zero and Net Positive Energy projects to help our clients quickly identify cost-effective strategies to achieve restorative and regenerative design. We take a whole-systems approach to buildings and communities, integrating our building simulations, passive design strategies and resource-efficient active mechanical system designs. Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment Elementa provided technical support to the WGBC in the development of the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment, and became one of three founding signatories. We have committed to Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2020 across our office locations globally.
Bringing Embodied Carbon Upfront Elementa provided technical support and peer review of Bringing Embodied Carbon Upfront, a report and call to action. Additionally, we publicly endorsed the report, taking a stand to advance the MEP design sector through research & development.
Better Places for People Elementa acted as a technical advisor to the creation of the WGBC Online Case Study Library. The platform showcases projects around the globe that demonstrate enhanced performance in relation to health benefits and/or net zero operational carbon as verified by established certification schemes, rating tools or other verification systems.

Added value Our engineers are constantly adding value, pushing the boundaries of engineering to create unique solutions tailored towards each project that are robust and deliverable at the same time. Our initiatives are consistently driven by sustainability and we seek to link our operations and activities to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
LETI - London Energy Transformation Initiative
Greater London Authority
Elementa initiated the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI), bringing over 1000 built environment professionals together who are dedicated to put London on the path to a zero carbon future.
Through Elementa’s work with LETI, Elementa were appointed to work alongside the GLA to peer-review and input on projects currently applying for Government capital funding.
Façades, Merck Merck Window Technologies approached Elementa to undertake performance analysis on one of their new innovative products. We investigated the performance of their Liquid Crystal Window (LCW) in comparison to well-established façade design challenges and other current market place options.
TM65: Embodied Carbon Calculation Elementa Consulting were commissioned by CIBSE to develop a methodology for calculating the embodied carbon of MEP systems often left undiscussed in current embodied carbon discussions. This guidance, will is published as CIBSE Technical Memorandum (TM) 65.

Integral Group Impact Fund The Impact Fund is Elementa’s platform for investing in strategic research and development initiatives. On an annual basis the Impact Fund allocates 0.5% of our Net Service Revenue directing to R+D initiatives open to both technical and support staff across all offices.
