How should we relate to the Bible? Because the Bible is the very word of God it is the first and ultimate authority for all Christians in all of life and belief. If the Bible says it, we must believe it, if the Bible commands it, we must obey it.

head heart

The authority of some teachings in the Old Testament can be a confusing subject for many Christians. While all of Scripture is authoritative for us believers the way we live out the teachings of Scripture can look a little different for us as Christians than it did for a pre-Jesus Jewish person. What are some principles you use to understand the Old Testament in light of Jesus? What are some ways you can grow in your ability to understand all of Scripture including the Old Testament?

There are parts of God’s word that we find difficult to submit to. There are many reasons for this; we find the teaching to be cruel or unloving in our mind, we find it to be embarrassing, our own sinful hearts resist God’s teaching in an area etc…What teachings of Scripture do you find most difficult to submit to?

Why do you think that is?

Is there any areas in your life that you have been refusing to submit to the teaching of Scripture in. Spend some time this week repenting to God and asking for His help in being obedient in this area.

Spend some time in your group today confessing where you have refused to submit to Scripture in your lives, to each other; and pray for each other as we are taught to do in James 5:16.

Is there any teaching of Scripture that you have “relaxed” in your own life or in discipling or witnessing to someone else?
