Served hot and cold all day long! We take cider seriously around here; that’s why we partner with Ela Family Farms from Hotchkiss, Colorado, to bring you the best fresh apple cider.

Every year at Cider Days, we fill a 5-yard dumpster of apple mash to the brim, then compost and repurpose it at our Lakewood parks. 40W ARTS DISTRICT OPENS CREATIVE HUB
“It’s funky, and, like the authenticity that Colfax has always had, it’s a little grit, a little glitter.” The 40 West Arts District, in partnership with the Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District, has officially opened a permanent Creative Hub in the heart of the district at 6501 W. Colfax Ave. The partnership recently purchased and renovated the 11,000 square foot building close to multiple amenities including local bus routes, the West Line Lamar Light Rail Station, shopping and dining options, and the revitalized Casa Bonita Mexican-themed restaurant. Formerly the much beloved Denver Drumstick building, which has been shuttered for decades, the new headquarters for 40 West Arts District, Lakewood’s only state-certified creative district, will host a convergence of noted galleries including 40 West Gallery, Core New Art Space, EDGE Gallery, Kanon Collective, Lakewood Arts (Lakewood’s longest continuously operating arts organization), Next Gallery and Red Herring Art & Supply. The brainchild of French Gypsy jazz guitarist and composer Mathias Duplessy, The Violins of the World brings together virtuosic musicians from China, Mongolia, and France to create an astonishing cross-cultural encounter.
“The crossing strings of these virtuosos weave a path between the written and oral traditions of East and West as they endeavor to interpret the world differently and forge a way to new and unprecedented sound.” – Rain Forest World Music Festival
Duplessy studied classical guitar at the age of 6, was playing professionally by the time he was 18, and began picking up instruments from around the world. Collaborating with a group of master musicians with a shared interest, The Violins of the World melds fiddle Erhu, horse-headed fiddle, throat singing, Scandinavian fiddle (nyckelharpa) and propulsive acoustic guitar in original compositions with a strong Asian influence, blues spirit, Celtic rhythms, and melodies from the Mongolian steppe.
The quartet’s first record, “Duplessy & the Violins of the World,” was followed by a successful world tour that opened people’s eyes and ears to the band’s amazing musical abilities. Their new album, “Brothers of Strings,” is a musical journey from the Gobi Desert to China and the ancient Far East and includes wild covers of Morricone’s “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and Dire Straits’ “Brothers in Arms.” Four soloists. Four cultures. Four instruments. Four temperaments. One unparalleled performance.

Convergence: An immersive video and animation experience for TimeShare September 9 – October 31 Lakewood Cultural Center, North Gallery Convergence, in the North and Lobby Galleries, creates a flood of projected video and animation artworks by local and regional artists. Though each artist’s projection is singular, the projections converge to fill each wall of the space, completely wrapping the viewer in light, image, and sound. This immersive experience highlights local and regional artists who are experimenting with cutting edge technology to produce their artworks.
Future Frontiers for TimeShare September 9 – October 31 Lakewood Cultural Center, LCC Lobby Gallery Future Frontiers features the artwork of students from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design and local high schools who are endeavoring to push the definition of artwork into the future through their engagement with, and utilization of, technology in art. …an electrifying history

A
t the holidays, when Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park is aglow with holiday lights, it is a reminder of how we bring history to life. Our mission is to tell the story of the 20th century through engaging and innovative experiences and events for the community. Electricity became more common place in the 1900s, and at the holidays, our living history park exhibits the evolution from one bulb to thousands of twinkling, colored lights. While exploring Heritage Lakewood, you’ll see our historic structures showcase electrical innovation. The Streer-Peterson House represents the 1910s, when kitchen lighting consisted of a single light bulb hanging from a cord. Fast forward to the 1950s, an era that brought bright lights and neon signs to Colfax Avenue, and you will notice that our Estes Motel is a nod to a time that brought growth and commercialization to Lakewood. As lighting innovations progressed, holiday décor, trees and symbols were electrified. Some claim that the nation’s first outdoor illuminated Christmas tree was lit near Lakewood in 1914. Electrician D.D. Sturgeon placed painted light bulbs on a tree outside his ill son’s window to brighten his spirits. It was the start of a tradition. Today, holiday bulbs vary in size and shape and include the popular Bubble Light from the 1940s. Ask anyone about their favorite style of holiday light, and most will have a prompt and unique reply. For Lakewood resident Lee Wellbrock, too much Christmas is not enough, and he demonstrates this with his annual light display. Lee enjoys sharing the story of when Mayor Adam Paul showed up at his door one December evening. After the mayor made a jovial inquiry about whether Lee had the proper permits for such an extravagant light show, the mayor was invited inside for some holiday cheer. Many see holiday lights as a symbol of hope; for others, the lights conjure childhood memories. In Colorado, it is a tradition to keep lights up through the National Western Stock Show in January. No matter your personal holiday light tradition, we hope you have enjoyed this look back at the history of lights in Lakewood and that you visit our history park to see the holiday lights and attend our festive classes and programs. Stop by this holiday season for our immersive lighting exhibit, Camp Christmas, a brilliant partnership of the City of Lakewood, Denver Center for Performing Arts and hometown artist Lonnie Hanzon that continues the evolution of light. This imaginative display attracts visitors from across the metro Denver area to experience Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park.
