English Newspapers Covers LOLLYWOOD Film on BB gets US award A documentary on the life of Benazir Bhutto has received a prestigious electronic media award in the US — the George Foster Peabody Award. Bhutto is a 111-minute documentary about the two-time Pakistani prime minister who was assassinated in Rawalpindi while campaigning in 2007, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported. The documentary received the award at a glittering ceremony held in New York. Bhutto’s son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is the chairman of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, attended the award ceremony with his aunt Sanam Bhutto. Hollywood actor Patrick Stewart of X-Men fame presented the awards. Among prizes for electronic media — radio, television, interactive and new media — the George Foster Peabody Awards are considered the most prestigious. Founded in 1940, the Peabody is the also the oldest electronic media award

in the world, recognizing excellence, distinguished achievement, and meritorious public service. The first radio awards were presented in 1941, the first TV awards in 1948, the first cable TV awards in 1981, and the first website awards in 2003. Honoring content from large broadcast networks to tiny online outlets, from popular entertainment programmers to independently produced documentaries, the Peabody Awards seek out ―excellence on its own terms‖. The awards are administered by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. –UNS-

'Shareeka' a family affair By Sher Khan, Published: May 29, 2012

LAHORE: Despite having faced a slump last year due to box office failures coupled with regular bouts of illness, acclaimed film director Syed Noor knows there is no looking back. At the Shabab Studio, located in the periphery of Lahore, Noor, 61, is busy filming his latest venture Shareeka, which is set to release on Eid Ul Fitr this year.

Credited for revitalizing Lollywood in the mid-90s, Noor is known for making issuebased films and has some of Hollywood’s biggest hits, such as Choorian, Jeeves, Ghoonghat and Deewane Tere Pyar Ke, under his belt. However, with a slump in the overall film industry and the economy in general, the director faced many failures as well but unswayed by these setbacks, he held on to his determination of keeping the Punjabi cinema alive and continued making films. Noor looks at each film with the hope of reviving the industry. ―I can’t say whether a revival will occur or not but I want to ensure films are being made not only for the audiences but also for those who rely on them for their livelihood,‖ says the director. A sneak peek Speaking about the film, Noor, considered one of the best film-makers in Pakistan, reveals, ―Shareeka is a total family drama film. In our culture, joint families are a norm; but within these there are jealousies, negativities and other problems. However, we’ll focus on the importance of understanding these differences and moving past petty issues.‖ The star-studded cast of the film includes Shaan, Saima, Irfan Khoosat, Mustafa Qureshi, Afzal Ahmed and others. Noor reveals that the film revolves around a big family, their two sons and then grandsons, all living together. Both Qureshi and Ahmed will be seen playing crucial parts. Ahmed, who is finally back after suffering from a stroke which left him wheelchair bound and unable to speak, has a role that’s designed to accommodate his condition. Shaan and Saima will feature as the children of the lead characters. ―You can probably tell what my character is,‖ quips Qureshi, adding that he will play the role of the

grandfather. ―Shareeka is an important story, with an important message. The film makes an analogy to the situation of Pakistan and compares it to a big family, consisting of different people from different backgrounds and languages, all living together.‖ ―In these times, to have a film like this being made is a positive thing,‖ states Qureshi. ―We are, in a way, trying to discuss those issues which matter to the people of the country. I really believe that relationships thrive on understanding and likewise a nation also thrives on understanding amongst citizens.‖ Like Qureshi, producer Safdar Malik also believes that the best thing about the film is that most people in Pakistan can relate to it. Recently, questions have arisen over whether a family film can generate enough revenue for the film-maker as well as cinema owners. Malik states, ―People are tired of the vulgar and cheap films that are commonplace these days. That’s the reason families don’t even bother going to the cinemas. This will be a comeback of a genre of films that has been long neglected.‖ While talking about the onslaught of foreign movies and how they affect the business of local ones, Malik says, ―Currently, the industry is not producing enough films so foreign and Indian films are necessary for the survival of cinemas and theatres. However, on our part, we have made sure that at least some work is going on and that new faces are getting a chance to show their mettle.‖ Noor’s upcoming venture Meanwhile, apart from Shareeka, Noor’s other venture, Meri Shaadi Karao, is also scheduled to be released in June this year. The director confirmed it will include Indian Punjabi Daler Mehndi’s son Gurdeep Singh in the lead role. The film is a coproduction of Noor and Mehndi.

Here is a list of new films that may change the face of Pakistani cinema.

KARACHI: There’s been a lot of hue and cry about the decline of Pakistani cinema, but with a number of feature films under production and a lot of TV directors switching to films, the situation is expected to drastically change and the industry may get its much-needed overhaul. It revolves around the life of one of Pakistan Army’s martyrs. Although the name of the director is not confirmed yet, one expects hordes of people walking into cinemas when a name like Mandviwalla is involved. Humayun Saeed With a CV that boasts walking the ramps for top designers, acting in several dramas, featuring in various commercials, and owning one of the most noticeable drama production companies in Pakistan, the last thing left for Humayun Saeed to do is to make a film. And he’s doing just that with ―Main Hun Shahid Afridi‖ that revolves around a boy’s struggles in his journey to become a cricketer. The script has been written by wellknown TV writer Vasay Chaudhry and will be directed by Osama Ali Raza. Iram Parveen Bilal Iram Parveen Bilal, who shares her name with that of Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor’s character in Agent Vinod, has wrapped up the shoot of her film Josh. On other hand, Bodhicitta Film Works, which is a company that released the teaser of Kolachi but vanished into thin air afterwards, has announced that it is set to release Seedlings? The film, which is expected to be released soon, stars TV actor Mohib Mirza and Aaminah Sheikh. Selected scenes from the films were screened at the recently held Zab Media Festival. However, no dates have been finalised as yet. On the other hand, director Nasir Tehrany, who works for Hum TV and the owner of Manduck Productions, is working on a film called Naach. Galaxy Lollywood Says? (http://galaxylollywood.wordpress.com/)

Galaxy Lollywood is an independent news website of Pakistan Film Industry (Lollywood) with a simple aim to provide quality information about each & every happening of the industry, which is currently a victim of total negligence of both its representatives sitting in government and some of its own people who have destroyed it so much by either pulling out their investments or by making low quality, baseless and vulgar films. The Team of Galaxy Lollywood Though the team of Galaxy Lollywood is not very much experienced in this business but it‘s a group of 6 enthusiasts and true fans of Lollywood. We took this step because we think it‘s time to payback whatever Lollywood has given to us in the form of 1966′s Armaan, 1977′s Aina, or through any other successful and quality effort done in past. Ali Kapadia‟s Peace Film Pitch What GL says: Amazing concept, and no doubt once this film is done, it would be absolutely big!! Help this guy if you can, could prove to be one of the awesome (st) films of Pakistan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_BQ06grY1U

The real reason behind “Zara Sheikh” not being a part of “Ishq Khuda”. (A Galaxy Lollywood Exclusive) Posted by Momin Ali on May 14, 2012 in Article News Well Zara‘s no more a part of the film ―Ishq the launch and also did Khuda‖ and this does not really come as a some shooting. So why surprise as this particular role in the film was Zara shown the has already been passed down to several door or did Zara leave actresses. Why a special story on Zara Sheikh on purpose? Here‘s you ask? Up until Zara all the girls were just the scoop. in talks and nothing was final but with Zara Sheikh Things was final. She was there during Well every story has two sides but this one has three sides. Side 1 (The rumor) What it says: Zara‘s mother was ill so she had to leave the film. What GL says: Well there is something known as a contract which you have to sign before you start a film. Anyways if the mother really was ill you should formally state so in the media so there are no speculations.

Side 2 (The Directors side) What it says: Well Zara had gained quite some weight and it was difficult for her to reduce it and there were circumstances. What GL says: Well you had seen Zara before signing her, didn‘t you see the apparent fatness then. Furthermore Zara is nowhere

close to the point where weight loosing is needed. Moreover our actresses are alien to the fact that weight loosing is something you need to look good (point in reference Saima). Side 3 (The Galaxy Lollywood Exclusive real reason) What is it: Well we all know about our Lollywood actresses and their infamous insecurities with each other? They are always in news for making digs at each other and trying to beat each other to be at the top. Well apparently Meera was out of Pakistan during the launch of the film and on coming back realized that Zara had a substantially meaty role in the film. So how could Meera bear this, that someone other than her shine on the screen? Reportedly she started going to Shehzad Rafiques office almost daily and only rested once she had gotten Zara out of the film. Now Meera is satisfied with Wiam Dahmani as she is a newbie and is not really well know, compared to Zara who was quite well known and most of the people were eager to see her on the screen after all this time. So Meera being the bigger star succeeded and got Zara out! Well now you know the real reason behind Zara not being a part of Ishq Khuda. But no need to be sad Zara fans as there is something huge that has come Zara‘s way which we will share with you soon. Anyways if there is any truth to the Zara‘s mother being ill story we wish her a healthy recovery and also wish all the mothers out there a very HAPPY MOTHERS DAY.

Meera lip locking with Ahsan Khan! (Galaxy Lollywood Exclusive kissing Picture) Posted by Momin Ali on May 22, 2012 in Article News

There was much talk over the smooching scene in the trailer of the film Rafina. If that was anything it was just a start, a start of Lollywood growing from a conservative Industry to one with a more open minded approach. If this picture is anything to go by then we might soon see Meera and Ahsan Khan sharing a kiss in the forthcoming flick ―Ishq Khuda‖ directed by Shehzad Rafique. Well all we can say is hats off to Shehzad Rafique for this subtle transformation of Pakistani cinema. Here is the picture from the sets exclusively on Galaxy Lollywood.

“ShoMan” gearing up for his next

„Socio-Political‟ venture Posted by Aayan Mirza on May 6, 2012 in Article News

In early days of Khuda Kay Liye a reporter asked Shoaib Mansoor about his immediate future plans in film making business, and Mansoor, – if not being pessimist– then very realistically said, ―Oh no, have you seen my filmmaking speed, it took me years to complete my first film, I don‘t think I would make more than five films in my whole life.‘ Well, with the announcement of his next film; and that too within a year of his last widely acclaimed sociocultural release (Bol), it seems like Mansoor has started cutting down on the long gaps he use to take before initiating a new project, and this time with Indo-Pak relations being focused, it would be even bigger and far more interesting than his previous ventures. According to Times of India, the next ‗Shoman production‘ is going to be a period love story set during 1947 Indian subcontinent partition. Talking to TOI, Mansoor said, ―I‘ve been deeply troubled by the deteriorating

relations between the two countries. For too long now we‘ve been blaming extraneous forces and a third-party for the decline in friendship between the two nations. Why not look within ourselves for reasons why the bonding across the border has taken such a beating?‖ ―It cannot be a superficial boy-meetsgirl-across-the-barbed-wire-fence story. Cinema in both countries needs to go deeper to pin down the reasons for the rapidly deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan,‖ commented Mansoor on the subject he has chosen this time. Like all his past silver screen works, this time again the story is written by Shoaib Mansoor himself, however cast and the name of the film hasn‘t been finalized yet, or at least not yet been made public, but we hope this time again Shoaib Mansoor will come up with something really big and will set a trend for all in-future-to-be-made Indo-Pak centric films.

Shaan‟s new feature film NAACH Posted by Momin Ali on June 3, 2012 in Article News

What GL Says: Well this year seems to be big for Lollywood and particularly for our superstar Shaan. With WAAR (to Strike) already being the most keenly awaited film, this trailer of Shaan‘s upcoming feature film ―NAACH (to dance)‖ looks nothing less than another promising film from the house of Shaan, if we may say. This movie is sort of a ―masala film‖ as judging from the trailer and this will surely shut those mouths which were shouting out loud that art films only cannot bring revival. So without wasting much time here are two videos for two days. The official trailer and the dance video which may be a part of the film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSvCvjjyLvI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=767l3G9aZCQ

The „Shaan theory‟ for Punjabi films Posted by Aayan Mirza on May 30, 2012 in Opinion

Shaan is to Pakistan film industry, what Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt is to

Hollywood. When someone is regarded this big somewhere, you expect him

or her to be smart, logical and sort of game changer.

Shaan too carries a bunch of his own logic, when he speaks he seems to be a smart guy and Khuda kay Liye or Waar are (or going to be) two of his game changing projects in the industry. Considered to be the only superstar in Pakistan film industry, Shaan at the same time disappoints many when he talks about Punjabi films. According to the actor, the two big reasons he is still part of the Punjabi cinema are, first, that he cares too much about the other daily waged people who are attached with this business and secondly, the rural-beings of this country, where a man works 14 hours a day at his crop field, having no or very little knowledge and interest for films like The Avengers or Transformers; when at the end of his day seeks entertainment and relaxation, prefers these Punjabi films as they are intellectually more close to him, making him part of the biggest market for industry as a whole. In my opinion, when Shaan talks about the noncast lives attached to a film, he forgets two things, first the simple fact that it is not

necessary that these noncast people would only survive when substandard Punjabi films will be made, they just need work that could be either in form of Khuda Kay Liye or Buddha Gujjar. Secondly, Shaan also forgets about the power and influence he holds, he can easily use his influence to urge filmmakers to start producing films with certain standards if they want him to be part of the cast, one certainly can‘t ignore the face value Shaan holds in any (rural or Urban) sort of film market in the country and filmmakers would surely bent themselves for this. A good move in this regard was seen when Shaan announced his retirement from the industry due to the substandard work prevailing day by day there. It was already understood that Shaan can‘t just take retirement this way and will surely comeback but this time hopefully with more professional work. God knows the step would have had forced many to bent down and start improving their work quality but Shaan couldn‘t hold it long and denounced his retirement statement soon, and we still receive numerous reports

about Shaan signing one after another such films on daily basis. The second justification presented by Shaan is that the rural class of the country or specifically of Punjab province holds the biggest market for industry and cannot be just ignored as it would be financially not feasible for the already dying film-making industry. Well, just a very simple question arises in my mind after hearing such a comment. If Punjabi films hold the biggest market for industry and its financially not feasible for our industry people to try bring more quality to work as the rural class of the country would no longer be able to relate to it, then What sorcery makes films like Mujhey Chaand Chahiye, Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa, Khuda Kay Liye and Bol financially the most successful films of all the time in Pakistan? The argument here is not about whether one should support or work in Punjabi cinema or not, but is actually about bringing quality to our films as a whole. A big change in this regard would come only when

people having influence in industry would tighten themselves up and take a strong stance against it. Fact to be analyzed is that rural-to-urban migration is on its highest point and will increase further in future times, market for high quality Indian and Hollywood films

is tend to increase with this rapid urbanization, and if no serious measures are taken now, it might leave the local industry with nothing. Syed Noor very rightly says that people have tuned their eyes according to the visual and sound quality they experience in multiplexes; the answer to

this is not by banning and stealing this high quality entertainment from people but to compete with it by bringing yourself at par with it. And ‗At par‘ here does not mean at all to produce a film with mammoth budgets, that is neither possible nor feasible in Pakistan —

seems to be big.

Posted by momin ali on May 8, 2012 in Article News After Sabiha Sumer‘s hit film ―Khamosh Pani‖ everyone was eagerly awaiting her next feature film ―Rafina‖. The film which is somewhat on the lines of the Indian film ―Fashion‖ shows a girl from a low class family getting into modeling and what happens after that. Well the film is obviously going to be full of glitz and glamour as it is about the fashion industry but will also be realistic as it will show the impact of fashion on the conservative poor family of the girl. The film has quite some names attached to it. Director Sabiha Sumer for one has huge credibility as a director.

The cast includes famous model Aamna Ilyaas, Saba Parvaiz, Aamna Sheikh, Savera Nadeem, Farhan Ali Agha among others. The film will also have special appearances by many designers and models, a glimpse of which can be seen in the newly released trailer. This is one film which will surely create quite a buzz as we all know how fashion is one of the major things to have hit Pakistan in the last few years. Here is the trailer for you to see. The film has been in production for quite some time and the director hopes to release it commercially very soon. Galaxy Lollywood wishes it all the best.

"Last MAN Standing"

Special Article on Shah G aka Syed Noor’s last 5 films by (Waqas Imran) Syed Noor is showman of lollywood. Currently he is working on social and cultural themes. He has given a number of profitable mega projects like Jeeva, Choorian and Majajan etc. These films have become identity of not only Syed Noor but also Lollywood. Besides a number of super hit films he has a number of flop films that were good in their subjects and making like “Hum Ek Hen”. As we are watching a

declining graph of business by Lollywood, it is evident that producers and directors are giving low number of good family films which is a disappointing factor prevailing in our film industry. A couple of years back we have seen that “Javed Sheikh” has not given any thing after “Khulay Asman Ke Nechay” to the silver screen. No doubt it was a mega project but due to its poor old type of script it did not gain any success. Similarly Madam Sangeeta is also silent. Although Syed Noor is running an art academy, he is also making films. He is doing much more for the revival of Lollywood but when we have a look on his last 5 projects, we have seen that he is also not much better in his performance. He has directed and produced five big films after Majajan. Out of five only one of them is declared super hit and four are flop. Now we do a review of last five films by Syed Noor to have an in-depth look for the evaluation of his quality of work.

JHOOMAR (‫)جھومر‬ The theme revolves around a common issue prevailing in our traditional society for so many years. A rich family was unhappy of a love marriage in that family. In the hatred whole family blames for infertility of the newly married woman and due to late child bearing bride “Saima” faces pros and cons of married life. Even she had thrown out of her

home in the absence of his husband “Moammar Rana” by his family. At last after a struggle she united with her husband and they had a child. The plot focused socioculture problems that are spoiling our traditions and values of family lives and was properly addressed. The film got different cast from Syed Noor’s previous films. It got Pushto film artists that were very new for Non Pushto viewers and these faces did not bring a positive impact on its popularity. Shahid Khan performed well in a supporting role. Saima as

WOHTI LEKE JANY AY (‫)ووہٹی لییک جاین اے‬ The film is based on a theme that no profession is petty until you do it with heart. There is no difference among human beings based on casts and professions. Proud always has a bad end, as it destroys the peaceful environment

in a family. These things have no values in our Islamic traditions and society. Marriages can be done among the human beings without any cast differences and giving respect to parents

usual performed well. Shah g was not well in his direction, photography was also poor and the music was very looking very dull except one long song “Dhunda Tha Jisay Mene” that was a good composition. This film was released after a long Gap and viewers were expecting something big from Noor. It was released too late. These are the ingredients which made it totally to dislike the film. It was totally flop. Overall the film was “B” class.

by taking their prayers and love are the core values of our traditional society. The film was completely defined in his title. The screen play is full of humor, jokes and a number of well composed songs especially a tragic song “Pehli Wari”. The film got popularity because of comedy,

songs and environment. Noor directed in a pure village environment and actors very performing very natural. Shan has performed well in this different character of his career. Pakistani comedians proved themselves unmatchable in this film. Direction was a little better

than Jhoomer. Moreover it was released in a good appropriate time when viewers were depressed from a chain of Punjabi flop films. After Majajan this film gained good returns from BOX Office but not as much as Majajan. It was a hit film and categorized in ‘B’ class.

EK GHAZI AUR (‫)ایک اور غازی‬

It’s a story about a guy who has nothing to do in his life. Unfortunately he brought to jail for his wrong doings. He was kept for the contempt of murder during gambling. He mourns for what he did and prays to God to give him a chance for his forgiveness. There he found a fake claimer of being Imam

Mehdi “Yousaf Kazab”. When he was transferring to another jail he murders “Yousaf Kazab” by wrenching gun from a police man and he became satisfied. The plot is based on a real event that was happened a couple of years ago nearly 2002. As the synopsis shows, it did not have much drama in its content but it has a message of dignity and this is the inspiring thing in its subject. Viewers liked the film especially its background score. It was a very sensitive issue but unfortunately due to no publicity, no booking in

cinemas outside the Lahore, restriction of prints, and wrong cast, it was declared totally flopped. The hero was the producer “Heera Malik” who previously appeared in a leading role in his own film “Heera”. Besides no media campaign, Heera Malik was another main reason for the failure of Ek Ghazi Aur. Shah g brought a good content on the screen and he worked well in this project but due to said reasons of failure he depressed from its failure. The film falls in “B” category because of its wrong casting.

of two dacoits. Momi captures Saima and Shan brutally. The action started. Momi killed during the fight and Arif Lohar saves life of Saima by give his life. In the end, Shan and Saima united.

happy with it but screenplay was good that supported the film along with good music, superb Cinematography. The specialty of film was is cinematography and Shan’s work. Cinematography was superb and according to genre of the film. It was better than that in S.Noor’s previous projects. Shan was in very different role with few dialogues and he performed with one of his best efforts but unfortunately his fans didn’t accept him in this a little silent character as they loved him in “Daku Rani” in a supporting role, Momi done well in the end and Arif Lohar has also

JUGNI (‫)جگین‬ Story is about good and evil. Humanity is only thing to maintain a pleasant and happy environment but evil always has a bad end. Arif Lohar and Saima are stage folk singers in some village. Shan and Momi are two dacoits but Shan has some good spirit but Momi got evil in his heart and acted as a proper villain it has somehow resemblance of “Gabbar Sing” character. Momi performed it in his own style and gives good performance in the end. Momi targets Saima for his evil deeds and Shan protects Saima from him. This thing brings separation among bond

Story has good tempo but due its old type, people were not much

shown some better expression then his old films like in “Zindagi”. I can never forget few scenes and style of the movie. The film was released on eid initially with poor quality of prints and there was poor media campaign i.e. only on Filmazia to

support this film moreover, there was nothing new and different in the script but later good quality prints were screened in few selected screens but this thing did not supported the film because the film was already declared

average/flop after few weeks of its released before the new prints. These thing brought failure to this project and this film is categorized as ‘C’ class especially because of Script.

was felt that actors are performing without dialogues and director. We have nothing to mention any good aspect in its making. It was a worst film by Syed Noor. We cannot find any reason that why Noor made it. It was totally flopped in whole circuit and is categorized as “E” class. Overall this work

focus should be on Urdu films by the producers and directors. When people did not see any Urdu film in multiplexes from lollywood they went to watch Indian films because of its familiarity with language. Last but not least people wants Pakistani films but with strong scripts and good making. It is recommended that Syed Noor should do focus on his scripts, Urdu films and good direction specially cinematography.

DANE PE DANA (‫)داےن پہ دانہ‬ Momi and Saima are engaged to each other but they did not tell their backgrounds and this thing appears as negative to the new relationship. Meanwhile Momi’s brother was in love with a prostitute who has similar face as that of Saima and the story revolves around these characters and the characters are emerging and emerging without any reason and linkage. Overall its story has nothing to be mention. After getting a little good collection from Jugni on Eidul-fitar, Dane Pe Dana was released on Eid-ul-Addha. As the trailer was showing, the film was not seeing to attract the viewers on first time. It has one of worst script, ugliest screen play, poorest music, and it

is “C” class. This thing is not pleasant for the revival of cinema. After success of BOL, Bhai Loug and Love Main Gum, it reveals that people want to see high quality films especially Urdu films. As it is evident that Urdu is our national language therefore

Although there is a lot of great work shared by showman of Pakistan FILM industry on cinema screens but after block buster hit Majajan, we didn’t find him in his last 5 projects. We request Shah G to please bring movies like JEEVA, SANGAM, SARGAM, GHUNGAT, ANGARY, DAKU RANI, and if he is serious in Survival of Pakistan Cinema Industry with the Revival of Pakistan Film industry then he have to bring some projects in Urdu and make some sequels of his films like JEEVA, DAKU RANI and HUM AIK HEIN. And please release his completed much awaited film “

Price of Honor” ASAP.
