Alessia, a Canadian working in public relations and real estate, met a heavy civil contractor named Joe at a local fundraiser in Austin, TX. There was a spark and soon they would weld their two lives into one. One night, while they were relaxing in their home, Joe got up to get more wine. Instead, he returned with a little, black box-- and the rest is history!
Alessia and Joseph had their momentous day at the Hotel Van Zandt in Austin. Alessia fell in love with the location and felt the guests would enjoy exploring all the bars, cafes, and cool places to visit on Rainey Street. The bride walked down the aisle in a captivating ivory gown with a unique beaded bodice by Inbal Dror. The couple was escorted to the reception by a gospel choir singing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” by Stevie Wonder. Guests enjoyed a variety of entertainment throughout the night, but the clear favorite was The All Nights band— a local Motown, Soul, and Funk cover band.
Alessia’s Advice:
You should sweat the small stuff. The big stuff is easy [because] it’s all handled by planners and the venue. The small, unique details enhance the event and people do notice! Follow color schemes you would usually wear or use in your home. Don’t try new things for your wedding. My colors were gold, gray and white; colors I wear daily. Also, keep things flowing in a timely manner. Long speeches and a dragged-out dinner can kill the mood, especially if you’re trying to create a fun party.
They served 4-tier rainbow sprinkled, vanilla layered cake for all, donut towers dusted in gold were served to each table. The tables were adorned with gorgeous orchid centerpieces designed by Alessia’s mother.

The coupleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s story began in high school. Bethany made the first move and asked Brian to the Christmas Cotillionâ&#x20AC;&#x201D; a formal ball. Several years later, they reconnected at the local hospital where Bethany was working as a registered nurse and Brian as an anesthesiologist. While they were dating, they had planned to meet in New York to see LSU play Syracuse. Little did Bethany know, their plans for the next morning would take a slight detour. Brian had special plans to propose that night with rose petals and candles.

Bethany’s Advice:
A little tip on when you need to use the restroom: instead of having your bridesmaids lift your dress and stand awkwardly around… instead, turn and face the back of the toilet. Probably too much information, but it works.
The day of the wedding, I gave my cell phone to one of my bridesmaids and had her respond to text messages and answer calls. She’s my best friend, so she knew how to respond and when to ask me about something. This way, I was able to fully enjoy and take in the entire day without having to hassle with responding back to texts about silly things or even being aware of silly things that may or may not have stressed me out.
The night before our wedding, after the rehearsal dinner, I had two of my bridesmaids/best friends spend the night with me. The next morning, I had pre-ordered a ton of food to arrive because I read that the bride always forgets to eat the day of the wedding. Great friends and food was the perfect way for me to relax and start the morning. The morning of your wedding, do whatever it is that is relaxing for you. Also, surround yourself with the people that make you feel the most at ease. On their wedding day, Bethany wore a classy, strapless Watters gown in their outdoor wedding at The Houstonian Hotel and Spa in Houston, Texas. Following the ceremony pictures, they were able to have a private moment together to enjoy the signature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. During the reception, Bethany and Brian were able to have a private dance together. Afterwards, they spent a week in Jade Mountain, St. Lucia followed by a week in Caneel Bay, St. John. - Marian Jacob

Misti and John Kent met in college through Misti’s bestfriend who she had known since kindergarten and who also happened to be Kent’s cousin. They grew closer as they took courses together at Northeast Texas Community College. After a long day at work and battling with allergies that left her eyes swollen, Misti could not see what was coming next. She felt as though something was wrong, so she left for home.
As she pulled into the driveway, Kent was standing with the help of an epidural simulator. He was holding a bouquet of flowers and there were rose petals leading up to the house. Their three dogs then ran out the front door in shirts, designed by Kent, reading “Will you marry me?” The couple said “I Do” at the Elk Meadow Game Ranch in De Kalb, Texas. They wanted the ceremony to be close to home so their friends and family would not have to travel too far. To them, the location was perfect, and very well suited to their personalities – laid back and by the lake. Misti’s gown was a modern vintage style, Essence of Australia, from Brides & Belles in Tyler, Texas. Her mother and great aunt, two people who are very near and dear to her heart, walked her down the aisle.
Bride advice:
Never lose your Joy, Hope or Faith, even in the mess of things. It called for a 100% chance of rain the entire week of my wedding and the day of my wedding, we never EVER lost hope. We prayed daily and God gave us one beautiful, sunny day. It was such a hard day for me without my Dad to walk me down the aisle, I prayed for peace and joy and if you’ve seen our pictures God blessed me with overflowing joy as I walked down that aisle, and for me, that’s a huge blessing because, if you know me, I am one of the most tender hearted people you’ll ever meet.
The cake was created locally by The Bake Shop in Mount Pleasant. Because Misti doesn’t eat cake, the bride table was covered in an array of desserts, including chocolate covered strawberries, brownies, and cookies— all done in their wedding colors of pink and gold. The happily married couple lived out their “ever after” honeymoon at the Sandals Resort in Antigua.

Cristina, a digital content manager, and Dmitry, a process engineer, were both students at the University of Houston when they met one fateful day in the library. Instantly, they became friends. After a semester of getting to know each other, both began to realize that they were developing feelings for one another. One night, they kissed and their lives together, as a couple, began.
On their five-year anniversary as a couple, they went to Hawaii on vacation. On the third night, they walked along Sunset Beach in Oahu and watched the Hawaiian sunset. As they were walking back to the car, Dmitry got on one knee and asked for Cristina’s hand in marriage. Shocked and excited, Cristina happily accepted his proposal. They both agreed that the perfect fit for their wedding venue was the unique and stunning Majestic Metro in Houston. Built in 1926, this once-movie-theatre-turnedwedding-venue, has been fully renovated. Cristina’s gown was a gem from the Lazaro Bridal Spring 2014 collection. She wore an ivory tulle ball gown, with a sweetheart neckline, an ivory/gold Alencon lace bodice, a belt from Ivory Bridal, and a beautiful chapel train. She also ordered extra Alencon lace fabric to make sleeves for the ceremony.
Cristina’s Advice: Don’t settle for anything ordinary. Try to customize your wedding with your own personality and the things you and your significant other love; because when you look back at the day, it’ll feel like your own. I know that I am personally happy that I took the time to find a venue and overall theme that spoke to my personality. It’s difficult and tedious, as a bride, to take the time to work on the details and to make the wedding unique to you and your interests. But, in the end, it’s so worth it!
Dmitry, being Russian, had his mother play a classic Russian guitar for the ceremony and reception. Cristina, being from Mexico/Peru, had Mariachis play at the church ceremony. The cake, inspired by The Great Gatsby, was made by Cakes by Gina. Cristina and Dmitry honeymooned in magnificent Puerto Rico. — Jade Lewis

Chelsea, a public relations associate, and Matthew, a real estate agent, met one unexpected evening. Chelsea and her friends had decided that they were going to have a typical girlsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; weekend dedicated to margaritas, laughs, lots of dancing, and absolutely NO men! After all of the girls settled into a bar after several margaritas, Chelsea locked eyes with a handsome blueeyed man across the room. Matthew soon walked over and introduced himself to the group. Much to the other girlsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; indignation, Matthew hung around right next to Chelsea the rest of the night.

Nine short months later, Chelsea and Matthew were vacationing in Breckenridge, Colorado – Chelsea’s absolute favorite place. One night, Chelsea’s mom announced that they would be having a nice dinner at a steakhouse. Chelsea found this a little unusual because they usually order pizza or cook as a family in the house. Luckily, she packed an extra dress at Matthew’s insistence. When they later arrived at dinner, Matthew seemed a little anxious, but Chelsea didn’t quite know why. It seemed to her as though everyone knew something that she didn’t. When the waiter arrived at the table for them to place their drink orders, he also asked them if they would like to see the “Specials” menu. Chelsea took the menu without a second thought, and as she started to read, she noticed that it wasn’t a menu at all. Rather, it was a letter that described how much Matthew loved her. Suddenly, everyone’s strange behavior started to make sense. As soon as she looked up from the letter, Matthew was already on one knee. It was a moment that Chelsea will never forget.
Chelsea’s Advice:
Just breathe and remember why you are getting married in the first place. It is so easy to get caught up in the “Perfect Pinterest Wedding” or “The Fairytale Day,” but no matter how much planning you do, something is going to go wrong. I actually had food poisoning on my wedding day! Despite how sick I felt the entire day, I was still overwhelmed with joy because I knew I was getting to marry the man of my dreams, and that’s all that mattered. When things start to get stressful and you’re starting to worry about what the big day will look like, just remember: Your Big Day is a celebration of the love you found with the people who already love you. That’s all it has to be. Don’t stress about the rest.
The couple celebrated their big day at Oak Knoll Ranch in Springtown, Texas. It was perfect for the groom’s hometown Texas taste and the bride’s love for glitz and glamour. The big red barn made the groom feel right at home and the ranch’s gorgeous indoor
chandeliers along with the sweeping staircase gave Chelsea the chance to add her own flair. Matthew built a large wooden cross that was draped with flowers, which was posted just to the left of the altar as a reminder that Christ would always be an integral part of their marriage.
Chelsea wore an Allure Bridal gown and their cake masterpieces were created by Creative Cakes by Monica. The groom’s cake was a custom, two-layer cake, complete with a little horned frog commemorating his time as a TCU football player. - Kyley Kornegay

Brides Advice:
As Leigh Ann was finishing her Spring midterms in graduate school, her boyfriend Patrick was planning a proposal as a celebration after her exams. He figured that it would be the perfect time, so that she could enjoy her engagement throughout Spring Break. Well, date night came along and Patrick casually asked Leigh Ann when she thought he would propose. She deserved an “A+”, because she said “before Spring Break”.! As dinner came to an end and they headed back to Patrick’s apartment, he couldn’t wait any longer— he ended up proposing that same night.
“Take three separate times during the reception with your husband to step back and just watch your guests. It only takes a few seconds and really allows you to soak in the night and see how much fun everyone is having.”
They tied the knot with a traditional Catholic wedding at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston, TX, where both families live. Leigh Ann wore a vintage fit and flare Elancon lace dress with added sleeves from Weddings by Debbie in Houston. They had a 5-tier, multi-flavored cake, decorated with mint ribbons of icing, white pearls, and a gold
script “A”— which matched the invitations— from Cakes by Gina. The bridesmaids and house party were able to do a famous Southern tradition: a Cake Pull. (pulling silver charms off the cake) The couple ended their grand wedding adventure with a honeymoon in St. Lucia. - Kyley Kornegay

Reagan and Nathan met on the second day of high school in AP English class. They became best friends and the following year, on June 1st, 2012, he asked her to go steady. During Christmas in 2015, they were sharing their tradition of dining at Tolbert’s Restaurant in Grapevine, Texas before Nathan went back to school. After dining, Nathan nervously asked her to go for a walk to see the gigantic Christmas tree and display she had loved to see each year. As they rounded the big tree, she saw the familiar gazebo where they sat together many times.
Reagan’s Advice:
Christ is the reason Nathan and I are together and the marriage is possible. So leaning on and trusting in Him throughout the process is a must. Praying through every decision helped alleviate so much stress throughout our five-month engagement and ultimately led us to having a Christ-centered wedding as well as marriage! Nathan is currently in school to become a pastor and I hope to also work in the church someday, so this was very important to us. Also, pre-marital counseling is a huge lifesaver! Having someone walk you through different aspects of marriage and life together really helps in the first few months living with each other!
This time, it was filled with cheering family members and this was it! She couldn’t believe it! Once they walked into the gazebo, Nathan got down on one knee and proposed.
Reagan wore a strapless embroidered gown by Terry Costa as she walked down the aisle in the beautiful Flying V Ranch at Decatur, Texas. The 3-tier, naked cake was by Mug’s Cafe & Bakery. Reagan and Nathan spent two nights at the Gaylord in Grapevine, Texas and then enjoyed a five-day cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. — Marian Jacob

Rena and Daryl, both die hard Chicago Bears fans, met at a game on September 22, 2013. In the 2nd quarter, Rena noticed Daryl outside smoking a cigar and their eyes met immediately. She broke the ice by asking about the type of cigar he was smoking.
Their conversation carried on for a few hours and they even spoke more on the phone that night. Eventually, their phone conversations led to their first date.
One Thanksgiving, Daryl surprised Rena with her family in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Little did she know, he had asked her brother for his blessing. The following Sunday, in Houston, he proposed to her during dinner.

I learned to see all of my options in person. I had them show me our inclusive package at the hotel and requested separate dressing rooms for our guests. Know that not everyone will RSVP. It’s stressful but you will have to contact some guests to confirm their attandance. Be prepared for uninvited guests and unannounced dates. Stand back with your new spouse during your big day and view all of your guests having a blast during the party. It’s amazing to see so much love in one room. There are also things going on that you didn’t remember planning or picking out. If possible eat somewhere private with your spouse. We didn’t do that and we barely had time to eat since everyone came over wanting to talk.

Real estate agent, Meagan, met marketing agency owner, Lyle, on the social media dating app, Tinder, and this “swipe right” was meant to be. Lyle’s New Year’s Eve proposal was an artistic one. During the game winning Pictionary round, Lyle drew a diamond, a girl smiling and a boy kneeling. Meagan, his Pictionary partner, didn’t get it at first, even when he drew an arrow towards her. She burst into tears as he pulled a beautiful ring out of his pocket. Lyle had been carrying around his grandmother’s ring for months, waiting for just the right moment to propose!
Meagan’s Advice:
There is one thing I think is critical to a memorable wedding: write (or at least contribute to writing) your own vows. Nobody knows your heart like you do, and the love you have will shine through your eyes when you’re saying what’s in your heart, to the love of your life, in your own words.
The couple knew they wanted a destination wedding and found an amazing AirBnB rental in Snowmass Village, Colorado. The entire bridal party and Lyle’s parents all stayed at the house where the wedding and reception were to be held. The groomsmen left the morning of the wedding for Lyle’s “Bachelor Brunch” while the ladies took charge of decorating the house and preparing for the wedding.
Meagan wore an elegant beige and cream gown by Tadashi Shoji from BHLDN and chose a natural, sans veil look. Her jewelry was a hand-tied pearl necklace and matching bracelet, and channel-set diamond and pearl drop earrings. The cake was selected from Whole Foods Bakery the day before the wedding, along with wedding flowers and wine for dinner. They are planning a fall honeymoon in Seattle.

Since Jennifer, a social media specialist, and Alex, a graphic designer for the Houston Astros, both work in the digitalmarketing world, they naturally connected online. A little over a year after their first date, Alex wanted to recreate the magic of that very evening. On the night of their first date, they ended up at an empty and dark Minute Maid Park stadium with the roof open, sitting in the empty stands and talking for hours. But this time he had something else in mind.

Stay off Pinterest. Seriously. Think about what will make your wedding unique and true to you and your spouse. Our guests may not have remembered our beautiful centerpieces, but they will remember the football helmet cakes, how we wrote our own vows, and how they got to go out on the field and learn why Minute Maid Park is so special to us. Make the wedding unique for the both of you! We wanted people to walk away feeling like they knew us, our lives, and our love story better.
As Alex took Jennifer to the dugout, beautiful music filled the stadium and a slideshow telling the story of their relationship popped up on the Jumbotron. The last slide said, “So… Jennifer Sanchez…” and she turned around to see Alex on one knee! These U of H Alumni had an easy choice selecting the University of Houston chapel, with its beautiful cathedral ceiling and illuminating windows for their
ceremony. Minute Maid Park will always be special place in their hearts along with their love of the Houston Astros. This made it an easy and obvious choice for their reception. Jennifer took everyone’s breath away in a classic, elegant gown from Allure Bridal’s Romance Collection found at Marry Go Round Bridal. Their love of football was evident in their custom cakes from Village Bakery, which were decorated with their favorite team’s football helmets along with their preferred cake flavors inside. The couple provided cake balls, an ice cream sundae bar (which served ice cream scoops in small, plastic Houston Astros caps) and homemade Mexican sweet cookies. Alex designed their invitations, logos, programs, signs, and everything in-between. The bouquet toss and garter throw
took place on the field where the guests had the opportunity to take pictures. The couple had their guests RSVP completely online and didn’t do a registry at any stores. However, they set up a “honeymoon fund” to help finance their excursions. Financed by their “honeymoon fund,” Jennifer and Alex were able to take a cruise to Yucatan and Cozumel. - Stephanie DiCiro

Kyle, a real estate developer, and a political fundraiser named Kirstin met in Washington D.C. while Kyle was developing properties and Kirstin was working with the Republican National Committee. They hit it off immediatelyâ&#x20AC;&#x201D; the chemistry was undeniable. They knew they had found love. In January of 2014, Kirstin came home to a house full of glowing candles, hundreds of roses, and a bottle of champagne. Tips for the brides:
If you can host a gathering the night before the event for all out of town wedding guests, do it! You get all the obligatory hello’s and time to catch up with family and guests the night before— so on your wedding night, you can just party! Save a ton of money on alcohol costs by purchasing liquor, beer and wine retail rather than marked up – definitely something to think about when selecting your venue.
If you can get away with it, don’t have a wedding party! Simplify everything and you get to have as many friends as you want getting ready with you. Lastly, hire a wedding planner!
The couple tied the knot at the Greenhouse at Driftwood in Driftwood, Texas. Their wedding planner, Ashley O’Brien, suggested that they take a look at the venue, and knew that it was perfect the moment they stepped inside. Kirstin’s gown was a Watters low-back, lace gown. The two were married by Kyle’s uncle. Their cake was a simple, three tier cake, decorated with natural cotton buds. They capped the evening off with a fifteen minute firework display while the guests enjoyed a late night at Whataburger. The newlyweds took off in a vintage 1958 Corniche convertible and plan to honeymoon in Bora Bora on their first anniversary. - Kyley Kornegay

Bride’s Advice:
Write your own vows for the ceremony! It was a little nerveracking, but it was totally unique and [made it] a super special moment. So many guests commented on how much they enjoyed hearing our vows. We’re really glad we did it - and we kept them to read again in the future!
Eric, an oil and gas salesman, and Jennifer, a 4th Grade school teacher, were set up by mutual friends when Eric moved to Houston. Their first date was at Double Trouble Caffeine and Cocktails, where they had a few drinks, played some games and fell head over heels for each other! One night Eric made a very early dinner reservation, which caught Jennifer off guard and made her a bit curious. While she was rushing to get ready for their 5’oclock reservation, Eric started browsing through some engagement rings online asking her opinions on them when he found one she might like. While Jennifer was distracted looking at rings, Eric sneaked up behind her and said “What about this one?” When she turned around, she was completely surprised to find him down on one knee presenting her with a beautiful engagement ring. That night, they enjoyed an incredible dinner and flew to Los Angeles the next day to celebrate their engagement.
While searching for the perfect wedding venue, Jennifer and Eric looked everywhere, from fivestar hotels to a “chic barn.” They didn’t find the perfect fit until they looked at Agave Estates, a stunning Spanish villa on 30 beautiful acres in Katy, Texas. They fell in love with the ambiance of this venue instantly. With its old world, rustic charm, it reminded Jennifer of her Grandpa’s house back in Mexico. They felt it represented them perfectly. Jennifer walked down the aisle in a beautiful off-white on beige gown Pronovias Tibet gown from Weddings by Debbie. Her favorite
blue shoes and a string of pearls, special mementos given to her by Eric, tied everything together as she made her incredible debut. Lee, one of the mutual friends that brought them together, officiated the wedding which made for a beautifully intimate ceremony. Edible Designs by
Jessie created a sumptuous 4-tier cake that was filled with delicious white chocolate and raspberry and crowned with a Texas-shaped cake topper. The couple really had fun with the Old Mexico theme, hiring mariachis for cocktail hour, giving Mexican-themed gift bags, and decorating the venue with colorful, bold flower bouquets. The bridal party even gave out masks and miniature sombreros to the guests while they were dancing, which gave the reception a playful atmosphere they all enjoyed. Jennifer and Eric went islandhopping along the exotic coast of Thailand for their honeymoon, kayaking in beautiful turquoise waters, hiking limestone cliffs, and playing alongside the elephants. — Stephanie DiCiro

Meredith, the head of a financial technology start-up in NYC, was raised in Arlington, Texas as a die-hard Texas Rangers fan. Back home, it was a tradition to attend as many games as possible with her father. Now that she moved to New York, her Dad comes to visit when the Rangers are in town so they can go to every game in the series together. In August 2012, her father was in town for a series but had to leave before the last game. Before he left, he told her he was praying for her to meet someone and he felt like she would soon meet the man of her dreams. She still went alone to see her favorite team play and although the game was hit with a 2-hour rain delay, she stuck it out until the game began.

Lucky for her, Chris, a lifelong Yankees fan, also decided to wait out the rain and was sitting behind Meredith in the stands. Meredith remembers, “He quickly noticed I was an invested baseball fan. Intrigued, he struck up a conversation. And, here we are today.” Meredith and Chris love to travel and take an international trip every year. In May of 2015, they visited Italy and stopped for a few days in Venice. On a gondola ride, just as they were approaching Rialto Bridge, Chris got down on one knee and popped the question. They spent the rest of their time in Italy celebrating their engagement. They chose to be married in the Dallas Fort/Worth area, close to the family at Delaney Vineyards in Grapevine, Texas. The one tip that I can say really helped me was being organized. Our wedding day ran smoothly because we had a detailed timeline of the day for each of the vendors and the bridal party. It also helped throughout the process because organization kept us on track with planning and didn’t allow us to procrastinate on any major last minute decisions.
Morgan wore an elegant gown from Ivory Bridal Atelier. The reception took place at Hotel Zaza, in Houston. The 6-tier, gold and white cake was made by Edible Designs by Jessie. The night ended with guests participating in the traditional New Orleans “second line dance” led by a live brass band.

Madison and Colby met each other through a mutual friend that Madison had known since first grade. Colby took Madison to the Japanese Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth for her birthday. As they crossed over a bridge overlooking the beautiful gardens full of lush trees and flowers as a backdrop, Colby asked Madison to be his wife. Colby’s sister hid in the park so she was able to capture every moment.
They had their wedding at Heritage Springs in Anna, Texas. It was exactly three years and three days from the day they met. They chose the Heritage Springs location when they saw the pretty stone path down to the altar. Madison said that,“the indoor and outdoor part of the venue was perfect!” Her gown was designed by Essense of Australia. The cake was from Candy Haven in Denton, Texas.
Madison’s Advice:
My advice is don’t be the typical “bridezilla.” Cherish every moment because it flies by once you get to your wedding day. My mom and I actually grew even closer and enjoyed the process rather than let it become a point of stress or tension like it can for a lot of people. Use this opportunity to build relationships and have fun with the people you love most! Also, reuse, borrow, and repurpose! There are so many fun and unique ways to create centerpieces, table numbers, seating charts, etc. without spending an arm and a leg.
They also had mini-pies and sweets that were all made by Uncle Willie’s Pies. For their wedding favors, they had honey in cute little bear containers that Madison’s uncle harvested for the wedding, which added a nice, personal touch. Even bringing on a local “mascot”, a cat named Mitzy, who wondered onto the property one day and now calls it home. She even has her own Instagram hashtag: #hellomitzy. But cats aren’t the only benefactors at the resort. Since 2002, the resort has provided a haven for the Olive Ridley sea turtle. The nursery on property is managed by marine biologists and trained volunteers to gather thousands of eggs each season, between June and December, to place them in the nursery and protect them from predators. In 2016, more than 800 nests were discovered, close to 80,000 eggs were gathered and subsequent baby turtles were released back into the ocean. Guests can participate in releasing the turtles after 45 days in incubation. The resort hosts a sunset release ceremony and celebration, which can be incorporated into the wedding ceremony.

When you hear the term “Badlands” you probably envision the barren, rocky terrain and uniquerock formations portrayed in movie westerns, most often associated with South Dakota.Similar “badlands” terrain also exists in far northwesternNebraska. Although this corner of Nebraska is known as the Oglala National Grasslands, the abundance of eroded sandstoneyou’ll find herehas revealed a hidden treasure,the natural wonder of Toadstool Geologic Park.

Named for its magically balanced unusual rock formations, resembling mushrooms, this park includes a campground and picnic area that’sopen twenty-four hours, seven days a week. Toadstool Park offers aone-mile scenic loop hike that is best experienced in the earliest hours of daylight. I opted forthelonger 3 to 6-mile hike that features several geological points of interest. I started my hike from an area known asthe Hudson-Meng Bison Kill. There is a visitor and research center there dedicated to the farmers who,in 1954,

accidentally found the largest cache of fossilized bison bones on record. I was greeted by two friendly Nebraska Parks and Recreation rangersdelighted to show me the path.We set out on a long walk through open pastures with occasional colored markers to help hikers stick to the trail. On this hike, you’ll need to keep an eye out for cattle because they own the land here. After the first mile,the elevation of the traildeclines asyou make your way down to where the 3-mile Bison Trail begins. In the depths of thisterrainyou can clearly see where millions of years of water and wind have created the
unusual rock formations the park is known for.These “toadstools” were created by uneven erosion of the harder sandstone rock layers and the softer layers of clay, sometimes resulting in a larger rock perched atop a clay pedestal. Among the toadstool formations, you’ll also find fossilized remains of tortoises, rhinos, saber-tooth cats, three-toed horses and camels that overtaken and buried by windblown volcanic ash12 million years ago. as well. Just 23 miles south of Toadstool Geological Park, you’ll find Nebraska’s premier state park, Fort Robinson. As its name implies, Fort Robinson was operated as a military stronghold from the early days of the Old West until after World War II. Many original buildings survive and remain in use at the park today, and others
have been reconstructed. Fort Robinson was the site of the 1879 Cheyenne Outbreak and the death of famed Sioux Chief Crazy Horse. Over the years, the fort was re-purposed as a cavalry remount station, a K-9 dog training center, a POW camp and a beef research station. Finally, in 1962, It was established as a state park. span more than 22,000 acres of breathtaking pine ridge scenery featuring comfortable lodgings, scenic camping and hiking and it’s also home to several native buffalo and longhorn herds.The State Historical Society operates

What could be better than ringing in the new year with a Great Gatsby themed wedding shower? This classic theme has recently resurged in popularity and we think itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a great excuse for people to show off their creativity and play dress-up 1920s style!

Gatsby and glam go hand in hand and nothing says glamour like a velvet roped, red-carpet entrance! We recreated our own envious entry,reminiscent of 1920s Hollywood. At the end of our red carpet, guests were greeted by a strolling Champagne Diva. This elaborately costumed server, provided by J&D Entertainment, offered new guests filled Champagne flutes from the 60 slots built in to her hoop-skirt gown. Her stunning, but functional costume was chosen to complement the theme and she was a popular photo op with the guests throughout the night.
Upon entering, the guests had the opportunity to make their mark with a unique type of “guest book” that reminded everyone, this was Gatsby, Texas style! Guests couldn’t miss the 30’ by 32’ wooden and glass container in the shape of Texas, featuring a supply of mini wooden hearts for guests to autograph and then deposit in the opening at the top, creating a massive message montage. The glass front can be customized with any message you like and it can be displayed on a stand or mounted on the wall for a one-of-a-kind Texas art piece. (coosadesigns.com) - 179 -
An opulent color scheme of black and gold was chosen to create a sophisticated look and feel to the overall dĂŠcor. Houston specialty linen experts, House of Hough,styled glitter-filled table tops with these colors intertwined together.
Flowers were by Belinda Lewis and Michelle Woodward,who created stunning centerpieces for the tables and high tops. Gold and black flowers are hard to find so Belinda paired red roses and white hydrangeas styled in vases of gold with gold accents. Native Houstonian, Sidnie is planning a Spring 2018 wedding to her beloved fiancé, Blake Williams. The couple met in college at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Blake is a local, from a small town near the college and when they met, he really helped Sidnie warm up to small town life. When it came time to pop the question, Blake had a traditional proposal planned for his big city gal. Late in April 2017, Blake was scheduled for his cap and gown senior photo session in Salado, Texas. He asked Sidnie to accompany him so they could squeeze in some couple shots. During the shoot, Blake casually asked the photographer to snap some shots of Sidnie alone. As she sat, beautifully posed, on a stone ledge next to a lively creek, Blake stepped in and took one knee. From his pocket, Blake took out several little slips of paper that Sidnie had given him on their first Valentine’s Day together. Each sweet note described something that she loved about him and their relationship and each one brought back a flood of memories. Through her tears, she saw his next offering, a wooden ring box. He asked the question and without hesitation, her answer was Yes. Luckily, the photographer was already handy to capture the spontaneity of their special moment. Sidnie thought she couldn’t be happier until, not long after she slipped the ring on her finger, both of their families appeared from over the hill to congratulate them and share in their joy. tively style the shoot. Beauty stylist, Mayra from Simple Beauty Artistry in Houston, says brides are looking for whimsical hair, styled with braids and lots of body. She achieved this look on Sidnie using high-quality, braided hair extensions. Mayra styled her make-up to accent Sidnie’s bright blue eyes. The glamorous gown chosen for this shoot is a billowy ball gown, featuring three-dimensional floral lace appliqués, with an illusion neckline and cathedral-length train. Hand-picked from the Mori Lee Wedding Dress collection, this gown is available at Ventura’s Bridal Fashions. Floral artists, Belinda Lewis and Michelle Woodward, created two exquisitely crafted floral bouquets to be held by our beautiful Billboard Bride. My tip for other brides would be to not stress out. Planning a wedding can be stressful to coordinate and financially stressful. Don’t let this ruin your experience. Make an informed decision to stick with it and go on to the next decision. Also, make lists— tons of lists! Scratch things off as you go so you see how productive you are with your planning. This will also help ensure that you don’t miss any important details. It will be a great day no matter what, so try to relax and enjoy the limited time you have just being an engaged couple.

I kept a small notebook in my purse from the day we started planning up until the wedding day. I would make a to-do list every Monday of things I wanted done by the end of the week. It helped me stay organized and on track throughout the whole process.
ADVICE
Make an emergency box for the day of the wedding; medicine, safety pins, toothbrushes, sewing kit, extension cords, etc. My mom and I walked through the dollar store and picked things up [to put in the box]. We ended up using it a lot on the wedding day! Hire an experienced and organized wedding coordinator. They will make sure everything runs smoothly and will handle the details you won’t have time for— from directing the bridal party down the aisle, to making sure your honeymoon bags get put in the car.
Jessica Don’t feel like you have to stick to “tradition.” Add your own personality to your wedding. I may look like a girly girl, but I’m actually pretty laid back. I wore highheeled converse with penguin socks to my reception and was very happy I did so. No one saw them, so I felt like I could wear an elegant dress and still feel like me. Also, let your groom add his personal touch! Ryan picked out Han Solo and Princess Leia cake toppers. We even had a little Chewbacca to represent our dog.

Create a joint “wedding bank account” with your fiancé and deposit money into it monthly. [Make sure to] pay all of your wedding expenses out of this account.
Melanie Try to enjoy the ride. It gets very frustrating and at times you wonder if this is really something you want to continue doing. I had to step back and realize this day was not about making everyone else happy, it was about making us happy. You will never make everyone happy during the process and you have to accept that.
ADVICE
My advice is don’t be the typical “bridezilla.” Cherish every moment because it flies by once you get to your wedding day. My mom and I actually grew even closer and enjoyed the process rather than let it become a point of stress or tension like it can be for a lot of people. Use this opportunity to build relationships and have fun with the people you love most! Also, reuse, borrow and repurpose! There are so many fun and unique ways to create centerpieces, table numbers, seating charts etc. without spending an arm and a leg.
ADVICE
The day goes by extremely fast and, in the blink of an eye, it’s over. Take in every moment and embrace it all— this is the beginning of a new chapter in your life. You are blessed, so make it worth the ride. I have always said to “live in the moment” and take each day as it comes. Stay positive and remember: no matter what happens— good or bad— you are one of the few that has found love.

I attended the Bridal Extravaganza Show in January 2016. I was just recently got engaged, and I had a little while to go, but I’m so glad I started early! You don’t realize how much you have to do before your wedding date and the show allows you to see all the best vendors out there. At some point throughout the wedding process, I needed to quickly find a vendor to create and print my menu cards. I remembered all the business cards I received, and picked a vendor from one I had visited at the show. I definitely recommend the Bridal Extravaganza Show to all Brides-to-be!
I attended the Extravaganza with my mother shortly after getting engaged. I had already decided to do the planning myself, but [my advice is to] hire a Day-of coordinator (Audrey Hu-Gonzalez, who is fantastic). Attending the show helped me realize just how much detail I had to think about and got me started on the right track with venues and the quality of service I was looking for.

We arrived knowing very little about weddings. We were a bit overwhelmed by how many brides, bridesmaids, mother-of-the-brides, and grooms attended for the purpose of finding that extra “perfect touch” for their already well-planned weddings, while we did not even know where to begin our search. However, as we began walking down the aisles one by one, we found exactly what we needed from vendors that suited our needs and tastes. Within a few hours, we had picked our invitations company/consultant (Vivian Jade) and found our musicians (Divisi Strings). From there, our planning became much easier, and everything fell into place!
I did attend the Extravaganza and was able to find my photographer, videographer, invitation designer and cake designer. It was definitely a one-stop shop! The event can definitely be overwhelming, but if you go in with the mindset that you know exactly what you are looking for it definitely helps.
