ABOUT BEAUTIFUL Beautiful magazine has always been a dream of mine, something that I knew would come eventually. I just cannot believe it is already here! Beautiful is a collection of art and illustrations, depicting inner and outer beauty. It is stories, it is real, it is life. It is pure beauty. Beautiful is fashion, health, beauty tips, encouragement, life, art and truth. Beautiful is about you, your story, your life, your love, your pain and your fears. Beautiful is about us, our stories, our journeys, adventures and our moments of life that have been crafted specially to share with you. I want you, the reader, to feel safe reading Beautiful. I want you to feel like you are a part of the stories, the adventures and the passion that each one of the editors, writers and photographers bring to you. BEAUTIFUL, Happy New Year 2019! What a time to be alive!! My hopes are that your holidays were filled with love and joy. I was able to spend time with some of my family. Now we are onto the next year, 2019! I feel like we are never ready for the beginning of a new year. We always have such great thoughts and intentions in mind for the new year but it is hard to follow through with those. This month’s magazine we are going to focus on one topic that will really help launch you towards those goals you might have made for 2019. This year we are taking one word each month and applying it to our life and encouraging you to do the same. For January 2019, our word for the month is DRIVEN. Our goal is to help you put your goals into drive and move forward with the things on your heart, not only for yourself but for any others that you might want to impact as well. Read the stories, read the social media section and see what other readers just like you are doing. Most importantly, find a few good goals for yourself and go after them with all the drive that you can muster. A little side note: with the stories that I will be sharing all year long, I am taking Proverbs 31 from the Bible and applying certain verses that match the word of the month. You are not going to want to miss this. The Bible is teaching us women how to truly honor Him through these verses - even in modern times. I hope you get as much out of this study as I have. Karissa: I do not know that I ever make a resolution because I have been told they do not work. I just stick with my goals. 5

Karissa Hagemeister is on a life long journey in the pursuit of love, beauty and truth. Not only does she want to discover these things for herself but she desires to share them with anyone willing to watch and listen. Beautiful & Dauntless was birthed out of this desire. She enjoys modeling, acting and singing. She has her own fashion line and partners her business with a jewelry line, Chloe + Isabel. In July of 2016, Karissa published her first book. Her future plans are to revamp the fashion & entertainment industry with the love, truth and beauty through both her fashion business and Beautiful & Dauntless magazine.

Arman Irani is just another fellow human. He’s admittedly a little bit nerdy. How nerdy? Well, he just received a Bachelors degree in Nanotechnology. Arman loves working out, cooking healthy, dressing up, traveling and he’s also a bit of a gamer. He has no qualms with moving in faith to new destinations and embarking on new adventures in life (as the phrase goes, you only live once!). When it comes down to it, Arman believes life is short and hopes that you become inspired and believe in yourself to do the things that you want in this life and follow your calling.

Jackie Cullum, 26, is a wife, mom, and Chairperson for the Missions Committee at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Saint Leo University and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Southeastern University. She plans on using her degrees in the missions field oversees. Her passion is for children and she wants to work with orphans by planting orphanages to help get children off the streets and providing them with an education so that they can have a brighter future.

Arnette German is a native of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She took her leap of faith and finally decided to yield to her passion for fashion by enrolling in the online Graduate Program of Fashion Journalism at Academy Art University in San Francisco, California. No stranger to the stage, Arnette is a member of the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota, Florida. Presently calling Bradenton, Florida home, Arnette spends her free time either volunteering at her local church and spending time with friends and family, especially her best friend.

Arnette is a foodie and a lover of nature and the arts. Life is definitely, in some shape or form and fashion, being lived to the fullest. Sara Robillard spent the first part of her life growing up in New England, and about a decade ago, she found herself transplanted to Central Florida. Sara is currently working in a full-time marketing position, as well as attending college as a part-time student to earn a degree in graphic design. She has been working in graphic art professionally for over five years (unprofessionally for almost a decade) and truly enjoys creating and telling stories. When she’s not working or doing homework, Sara is either doing something artsy, enjoying the outdoors, traveling, reading, writing or lounging with her cat, Ruxin.

Xiomara Montalvo is a 21 year old university student that lives and breathes all things artistic. She has lived in Central Florida for half of her life, but is originally from Michigan. Xiomara will be graduating soon with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design with a concentration in Digital Imaging. Her goal after graduation is to work as a Layout Designer for magazines. While Xiomara is not studying, and completing assignments, she is painting, drawing or designing something at home.

“What’s love got to do with it?” That was the infamous seductive and tantalizing question asked by the legendary leggy Tina Turner during the 80’s. But, to answer her inquiryplenty! You see as one ponders on what “fuels” one’s Drive; simply put, it would be Love. And an abundance of it. Oh wow! Where on earth are my manners? My apologies my loves...Happy New Year! Welcome to 2-0-1-9! During this pivotal time at the top of a “new year,” many are either putting together their New Year’s Resolution List or simply affirming them. However, in order for these resolves to be achieved, Passion, Heart and Love all must “fuel” one’s Endurance, Commitment, Dedication and Drive to be manifested. And in my love note to you for the start of the New Year, is to kick your Drive into Overdrive! Be so madly in love with you, your dream(s) and/or goal(s) that one can see how fervent your passion...your love for what you want is evident because you walk, talk and work at it-daily! Sacrifice is your new norm! Know and note, simply desiring something is not enough. Action coupled with planningscheduling time to work at and on the essentials to allow your shall be to come to pass, is the vehicle to get you to your destination but once you make your first pit stop to gas up to get a full tank of Love, Heart and Passion, you’re now fueled up and ready to Drive baby! So, I admonish you, practice what you preach...mean what you say! Don’t

just talk the talk...walk it too! Become a mad man about what you want! Put your Drive into Overdrive and just go for what you know! American Fashion Designer, Vera Wang, sophiscatedly said it like this, “The key is falling in love with something, anything. If your heart’s attached to it, then your mind will be attached to it. When you have a passion for something then you tend not only to be better at it, but you work harder at it too. For 2019, I have created a study going through sections of Proverbs 31 and I have applied the verses to the modern woman. This section of scripture has been written to give women a picture of their wifely, motherly, life and spiritual duties. For many of us, we tend to look more to television and movie stars to be our example. It is my hopes that I will be more a Proverbs 31 woman, the truly beautiful woman, as I do this study and I hope you take on the challenge as well to becoming a more beautiful woman inside and out. “She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night, she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously” (Proverbs 31:13-17 NIV). If that is not a Boss Babe than I do not know what is. It is crazy to think that this type of woman has been around for many years, dating back to King Solomon. This picture painted in the words above is not just a picture of a really driven woman, it is

something that every woman should strive towards. Every lady needs to be a boss babe in her own way. What do I mean by that? Should you be out buying fields, planting vineyards and making things with wool. Well, if that is your thing than go for it! But not every woman is going to find interest or purpose in those activities. Let’s break it down in modern terms: She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. The modern day woman selects the tools of trade that she finds purpose and life using. That could be a paint brush, a piano, a spatula, a pencil … whatever your tool of choice … pick it up. Work with that tool eagerly. Hone your trade. Sharpen your skill. Be diligent, be driven. The most important thing to get from this passage is to work diligently. Do not be wasteful with your time and your life. What is your tool of choice? She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night, she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. Many women today do not know how to cook food. I am not sure why mothers stopped passing that skill onto their daughters. First off, food is important. It is what provides nutrients for our bodies to keep us alive, healthy and strong. If we are not caring for ourselves and our families by preparing healthy and wholesome food, we are not doing our job as women, wives and mothers. Second of all, eating out and eating processed food is not nutritious and can be more harmful than helpful to our bodies. The best way to fix this is to learn how to cook. Lucky for you, we post recipes every month and we are beginning a cooking youtube channel to teach others how to cook healthy food. Be driven to care for yourself and the others in your life by learning to cook and doing it well. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. The modern woman should understand important concepts relating to economics, finances, houses, cars, ect … She should have wisdom, knowledge and understanding 30
of her own to be able to make solid decisions in life. She makes decisions that are going to further her and her family along in life. She invests in what is important and lasting. Not wasting her time and money on things that will not last. She sets about her work vigorously. Whatever you have found purpose in doing, work at it with all your might. Do not let distractions or obstacles trip you up or lose your focus. Stay driven on the purpose and plan for your life. A boss babe, Proverbs 31 woman style is not lazy. She works diligently using the gifts, talents and tools at hand. She helps “bring home the bacon.� She also takes great care in providing for herself and her family and feeding them the best. She is wise with her money and time, not blowing her hard-earned cash on the latest trends but learning to make her money work for her. Be a driven P31 woman. Be a Boss Babe!

Meggie Jenny State: Missouri Occupation: Actress Favorite Food: Chocolate What drives you to be your best? My family! I have an incredibly supportive husband and two children who make me strive to be my best every day. My daughter wants to be an actress as well, so showing my kids that hard work pays off is extremely important. What goal do you have for 2019? Growth. Growing in the Lord everyday. Growing as a wife and mother. Growing as an actor. What new years resolution do you make every year? To choose to see the good. I think it’s something everyone could do more of. In every situation, there is always good. Even in tragedy, if you look for it, you will see people helping. Focus on the positive. Meggie hosted the Red Carpet of last year’s 49th Annual GMA Dove Awards in Nashville. She is pictured with Cory and Anna Asbury.

There’s something to be said about that single moment
you step outside of your comfort zone. You jump the line with your eyes squeezed shut…and then, slowly open them to find yourself still alive. Wait...the ground didn’t swallow you up? No lightening struck you down from the sky? No, everything is fine. And instead, you find yourself in this whole new world, and wonder what had kept you from taking that leap in the first place. Usually, I’m the one to blame. I’ve put those lines in place, and sometimes I can’t even remember why. Quite honestly, it’s been an interesting life phase. When once I clung so tightly to tradition and how things were “supposed to be done,” I have now become the one who questions everything. Why? And as I’ve crossed those lines, I’ve discovered something… No, not guilt. Not regret. Not fear. But freedom. They were in place because I needed them: To keep me focused, or keep me safe…or—even though I didn’t see it at first—to challenge me to grow. To challenge me to question them, and to make that leap. Sometimes they were my friend, sometimes they were my enemy…but they had their time. And I am who I am thanks to them. 45

What drives me to do my best, is my own internal ambition. I compete with myself, to always do better, learn more, and to always give 110% to my work, especially in film projects! What goal do you have for 2019? I want to do more Faith Based (Inspirational) Christian Films this year. I realize I have to travel to do this, but it is well worth it. I truly love doing these types of films, since they are so inspirational, and when you see how they make an impact on people’s personal lives to inspire them, or encourage them to believe in God, this is my ultimate goal! I am only an instrument of God, and want God to use me to help and encourage people to be closer in faith with God. What new year’s resolution do you make every year? This months Biblical, Dauntless man is Nehemiah. I have selected him for his persistent attitude, his unwavering love towards God, and his ability to see past his current circumstances towards a brighter future for himself and God’s people. I highly encourage you to read his story in the Bible (Nehemiahs Story NIV) and I will just touch on some of the points of his story here. Many of us today are in jobs we may not like or really consider rewarding, but are doing it just to earn a living. I myself am one of them. I currently just got a job as a cars salesman and I was a server prior to that. Not the type of jobs you would tell your school teachers and parents you wanted to grow up to be… So was the case with Nehemiah. He was a cupbearer to the King Artaxerxes. His job duties including serving wine and other drinks to the King and also tasting the wine to make sure it wasn’t poisonous for the King… what a job huh?! One day Nehemiah’s brother came to him and said, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” Nehemiah 1:3 (NIV). This bothered Nehemiah greatly and made him sad. Then Nehemiah fasted, prayed and asked for forgiveness of his sins and his family generational sins. He really humbled himself before the Lord. I personally feel that God did a work inside his heart to help change him as a man. King Artaxerxes noticed the sadness of his cupbearer, I believe God touched his heart also, and really listened to what grieved Nehemiah. Nehemiah said, “Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.” Nehemiah 2:4-5 (NIV). Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, ‘How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?’ It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.” Nehemiah 2:6 (NIV). That was pretty cool huh? So this cupbearer Nehemiah found favor in the eyes of the King & got to travel back to the home of his ancestors, thanks to God. Not only did the King say it was cool for him to go back but he also gave him army officers, letters of safe passage and a letter to get the building supplies. I don’t know about you guys but I could use some of that favor myself for building things and fixing them around the house, LoL. 58

So Nehemiah got a royal transport to Israel to build the city walls. “I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on,” Nehemiah 2: 11-12 (NIV). So after he thoroughly inspected the state of the walls for himself, he spoke up to the rest of the others that would be doing the work in the city. I don’t know about you but if someone today told me I have to build up a broken down wall because God told me to do so, I’d say he had probably lost his mind Lol. “Then I said to them, ‘You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.’ I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me. They replied, ‘Let us start rebuilding.’ So they began this good work,” Nehemiah 2: 17-18 (NIV). But thankfully, due to good evidence from God, the Israelites didn’t second guess Nehemiah. However, other’s from various tribes didn’t like the fact that Nehemiah was rebuilding this wall and knew they would lose control of the Israelites if they finished the walls. They mocked and ridiculed them and tried to get them to stop doing what they were doing. Nehemiah responded back cooly, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it,” Nehemiah 2:20 (NIV). Little by little both men, women and young adults all worked together to rebuild various sections of the wall and gates. “ Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, ‘What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!’” Nehemiah 4:3 (NIV). But being a Driven man of God, Nehemiah responded to their insults by saying, “Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders.So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart,” Nehemiah 4:4-6 (NIV). Instead of insulting 59
them back or doing something to prove them wrong, Nehemiah humbles himself and just worked harder on his God given purpose. Of course this only upset the various tribes more and they plotted against the builders and wanted to fight them. You can probably guess what Nehemiah did though… “But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat,” Nehemiah 4:9 (NIV). However the people were still terrified because rumors spread very quickly, they were also getting tired and the morale of the builders was weakened. Nehemiah being a Driven individual though said, “‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’ When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to our own work,” Nehemiah 4:14-15 (NIV). Talk about a Dauntless man, he is just rolling with the punches and providing good solutions for each problem while he and the people work on finishing the wall. Thank God we have examples of what a Dauntless man looks like. He had the people keep their weapons in one hand while they built the wall. He had the builders positioned as workers by day, guards at night and they even stayed on guard when they went to go get water. Homeboy wasn’t playing to keep the work moving forward, nothing was going to stop Nehemiah and God’s spirit helping in the work. When the enemies had heard that he had rebuilt the wall, they still tried to get him to stop in completing the doors in the gates and sent him a message. “But they were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: ‘I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?’ Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer,” Nehemiah 6:3-4 (NIV). Talk about baller status! Imagine getting a text 4 times from your frenemies saying they just want to hang out (and waste your time or plot to destroy you) and to each text message your just like “Nah I’m doing something great.. I can’t come over” lol. Burnn!! “Then, the fifth time, Sanballat sent his aide to me with the same message, and in his hand was an unsealed letter in which was written: ‘It is reported among the nations—and Geshem says it is true—that you and the Jews are 60

plotting to revolt, and therefore you are building the wall. Moreover, according to these reports you are about to become their king and have even appointed prophets to make this proclamation about you in Jerusalem: ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now this report will get back to the king; so come, let us meet together.’ I sent him this reply: ‘Nothing like what you are saying is happening; you are just making it up out of your head.’ They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, ‘Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.’ But I prayed, ‘Now strengthen my hands.’” Nehemiah 6: 5-9 (NIV). The wall was finished despite the constant naggings & distractions. Nehemiah completed his purpose in building the wall, staying driven the whole way! I challenge you to learn from this Driven, Dauntless man and do likewise in the purpose and plans God has created just for you.

Meatball Ingredients: 1 pound of beef 5 baby carrots 1 egg ½ bell pepper ½ fresh jalapeno Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and cumin to taste Taco Ingredients: 6 corn tortillas 1 cup Shredded cheese of choice 1 cup Chopped iceberg lettuce Salsa Sour cream 1. Preparations: 2. Preheat oven to broil at 550 degrees. 3. Place aluminum foil over the top of a cookie sheet or a tray that can go in the oven. 4. Chop the carrots, jalapeno, and peppers into finely chopped pieces. 5. Add all the meatball ingredients together and mix in a bowl. 6. Take an ice cream scooper and scoop the mixture into balls and place on the tray. 7. Broil them for 15 minutes. 8. While they are cooking take the tortilla shells and either heat them on the stove or in the microwave for about 15 seconds each. 9. After the tortilla shells are cooked, place shredded cheese and lettuce on top of them. 10. Place the cooked meatballs on top of cheese and add sour cream and salsa to taste. Yields: 16 meatballs and 6 tacos

Happy New Year 2019! What a time to be alive!! My hopes are that your holidays were filled with love and joy. I was enjoying getting to encounter God’s presence this holiday season. Now we are onto the next year, 2019!! I feel like a lot of us try & plan for a new year. We may want to get in shape (this is the year “since 2005” I’ve been saying) or eating more healthy, finally having financial success or a plethora of other thoughts in our minds of what we deem to be success and living our best year ever!! This month’s magazine we are going to focus on one topic that will really help launch you towards those goals you might have made for 2019. This year we are taking one word each month and applying it to our life and encouraging you to do the same. For January 2019, our word for the month is DRIVEN. Our goal is to help you put your goals into drive and move forward with the things on your heart, not only for yourself but for any others that you might want to impact as well. Read the stories, read the social media section and see what other readers just like you are doing all around the world! 80
Most importantly, find a few good goals for yourself and go after them with all the drive that you can muster. The life you wish to live is not made by following the dreams and goals of others but by following the ones God has placed on your heart. This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.” Jeremiah 17:5 NIV PS: With the stories that I will be sharing all year long, I am taking various men from the Bible and applying why I think that man matches the word of the month. You are not going to want to miss this. The Bible is teaching us men how to truly honor Him through his words and be Dauntless men - even in modern times. ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman
