letter from the EDITOR

ello,

BEAUTIFUL, Happy December! Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!! With Christmas landing in the beautiful month of December, I thought RED would be the best color for this month’s magazine theme. I am a little bias towards the color red, it is in my top three faves. However, one of the things that I love about the color red is the power and passion that it represents. I want you to focus in on these two components as we end this year of 2018. What did you want to accomplish this year that you were unable to? Bring power back into that situation and give it all you’ve got as you enter 2019. Pursue it passionately. All too often, we let our dreams die because they did not work out the first time around. If I had given up with the first “failure” that I encountered, this magazine would not be here today. Even now, I have to face a failure head on and choose a different path hoping it will have a better end. If we drive our dreams with power and passion, we will not let setbacks, rejections or any other failures stop us from moving forward. Learn from the bumps in the road from 2018 and let them be your launching pad into 2019. Most of all enjoy this last month full of celebrations and get ready for something great in the new year to come.

XOXO,

Arman Irani is just another fellow human. He’s admittedly a little bit nerdy. How nerdy? Well, he just received a Bachelors degree in Nanotechnology. Arman loves working out, cooking healthy, dressing up, traveling and he’s also a bit of a gamer. He has no qualms with moving in faith to new destinations and embarking on new adventures in life (as the phrase goes, you only live once!). When it comes down to it, Arman believes life is short and hopes that you become inspired and believe in yourself to do the things that you want in this life and follow your calling.

ASSISTANT EDITOR

Jackie Cullum, 26, is a wife, mom, and Chairperson for the Missions Committee at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Saint Leo University and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Southeastern University. She plans on using her degrees in the missions field oversees. Her passion is for children and she wants to work with orphans by planting orphanages to help get children off the streets and providing them with an education so that they can have a brighter future.

FASHION EDITOR

Arnette German is a native of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She took her leap of faith and finally decided to yield to her passion for fashion by enrolling in the online Graduate Program of Fashion Journalism at Academy Art University in San Francisco, California. No stranger to the stage, Arnette is a member of the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota, Florida. Presently calling Bradenton, Florida home, Arnette spends her free time either volunteering at her local church and spending time with friends and family, especially her best friend.

ART DIRECTOR & CONTENT CONTRIBUTOR

Arnette is a foodie and a lover of nature and the arts. Life is definitely, in some shape or form and fashion, being lived to the fullest. Sara Robillard spent the first part of her life growing up in New England, and about a decade ago, she found herself transplanted to Central Florida. Sara is currently working in a full-time marketing position, as well as attending college as a part-time student to earn a degree in graphic design. She has been working in graphic art professionally for over five years (unprofessionally for almost a decade) and truly enjoys creating and telling stories. When she’s not working or doing homework, Sara is either doing something artsy, enjoying the outdoors, traveling, reading, writing or lounging with her cat, Ruxin.

FEATURE STORY GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Xiomara Montalvo is a 21 year old university student that lives and breathes all things artistic. She has lived in Central Florida for half of her life, but is originally from Michigan. Xiomara will be graduating soon with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design with a concentration in Digital Imaging. Her goal after graduation is to work as a Layout Designer for magazines. “Whew!” is the only response that accurately describes 2018 for me. In preparation for the composition of 2018’s last article, my mental notation put together that many posts and memes flooding my timelines via Social Media surprisingly shared the same outlook, response or theme for December and how to end 2018 in a BIG WAY! Regardless if the “word from the wise” was coming from reputable celebrities, motivational speakers, ministers/pastors, bloggers to friends…these pearls of wisdom…original posts or reposts all spoke quality intelligence in volumes: PRESS-in finishing the end of the year strong or it still isn’t late to collect at the end of the year; be it your dreams, goals that you were consistently working on or on whatever you deemed was “lost”. All in all, you can still WIN at the end of the year! And one way to win is through EPA: this time not the Environmental Protection Agency per se, but through the Endurance, Passion and Authority of Red. Yes, the environment of your Purpose, Dreams and Goals are in fact secured and protected through these governing elements of red. Symbolic of “Leadership, passion, endurance, love, fire, strength and power, desire and determination,” ALL of these bold, yet, unrelenting components are essential in order to finish 2018 like an undefeated Champion made courtesy of the directorship of the hue-red. Disappointingly, yet, concretely, the Past’s track record, has us (some) mentally reliving the various times when our determination was paying off and as the finish line kept getting closer and closer…no longer a distant thought, dream” or “vision”…now the tangible outcome…just as you’re getting ready to finally cross in a few more strides… the unexpected happened! You get knocked off course! And sadly, you don’t cross. But, hey, that’s okay…your passion is the fuel feeding the fire of your endurance, so you get back up, as Champions do and you go back at it againthis time with more strength, girth and fight. But it happened again. And. 12

13

14

Again. Now, the first time, you were knocked only a few steps shy from the mark…but if it continued to cipher (like it did for some)…square one was now the common outcome. What do you do or what did you do too keep missing the mark and feeling like you’ve “missed the mark” altogether? If you are human like I believe that you are…the towel may have been thrown in or not as much tenacity was executed (each new time) because the fear of “knowing how the story would end,” no more EPA: Endurance, Passion or Authority was applied. But, in those moments, that was when red was to kick in! Representative of “anger” too, the intensity, frustration and aggravation-the emotional drain from being knocked down over and over when knowing that you are in fact doing the correct things to cross and/or if you weren’t, the necessary adjustments were made and you are now doing so should have made you “angry” enough to “start seeing R-E-D,” causing an abundance of EPA to resonate all throughout your being so you could cross! Therefore, as this festive month marks the last month in 2018, and you reflect over all of many hues that will not only ornate December (Green, White, Gold, Silver and Purple)- Remember. Reflect. Reminisce. Over all of the symbolic meanings of the very hues that were shared and revealed throughout the year that you already embraced throughout the year that facilitated in you claiming the victory now to bring home the win baby! Know that everything that you needed for this moment, win, final step, more fight and girth…it is already in the inside because you have the Endurance, Passion and Authority of Red… illuminating your way! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa! And a Happy New Year! Until next year my loves!

As your personal beauty advisor, I think it is important to share with you the guidelines of being beautiful. Yes, there are guidelines, But no, they are probably not what you think or what you are used to believing. Let’s begin with the Dos of Being Beautiful: Being beautiful means being comfortable in your own skin. Accepting who you are through and through. It means loving who you are not to the point of being conceited but understanding that each one of us has been made in the image of God. God formed and specifically fashioned each one of us to be who we are and he made us to look, think and act the way we do. We each resemble him in some way. God is the ultimate artist, the divine creator. He does not create trash or worthless human beings. Therefore, you are not trash. You are a beautiful piece of art. Being beautiful also means that you are able to see the beauty in others. You can look at your other female friends with love and not jealousy. You can admire their beauty and realize that both you and them have unique and beautiful qualities to bring to the world.

34

35

Being beautiful also starts on the inside. So many women look to makeup, plastic surgery, fashion and so forth to “make” themselves beautiful. One can have a pretty face, but if they have a nasty heart, they are not beautiful. To bring your beauty outwards, look at the things that grip your heart. Is there anger, hatred, jealousy, envy, greed … these things do not produce beauty. If there is love, joy, peace, gentleness in your heart, your beauty is already well on its way to shining outwards. Now that we have covered the Dos, let us explore the Don’ts of Being Beautiful: Being beautiful does not mean copying what everyone else does on social media. It does not mean dying your hair to look like everyone else, sipping Starbucks because everyone else is doing it, or trying to imitate celebrities. That is not beautiful, that is envy and greed.

36

Being beautiful is not about showing off your body. It is a wonderful idea to take care of your body because it is the only one you will ever get but your body was not made for the world to see. You were made for one man and to please that one man. When you expose your body, in any sexual way, you are pleasing men’s lustful desires all over the earth. You are no longer beautiful. You are not even human at this point. You have become an object instead that men have sex with over and over in their minds. Being beautiful is not about how much makeup you wear. It is not just an outward thing. Being beautiful is not about how popular you are. It has everything to do with you and nothing to do with anyone else’s thoughts towards you. You may have looked at this article and thought, “I am not beautiful. Let me learn the secrets.” By the time you have ended the article, you have found that you were beautiful all along. Or maybe you saw the article and thought, “ I am already beautiful but let me see what it says anyways.” At this end, you have found that you are really not as beautiful as you thought.

Whichever situation you find yourself in, you can train your mind to see yourself as beautiful or you can allow your heart to heal and the beautiful transformation can work its way out. I personally believe that everyone has the potential to be beautiful, most of us just need to understand what beautiful truly means.

here’s something about the ocean at night. The ghostly waves. The stars. The quiet. It’s something akin to a blanket of snow under a moonlit night. Wind in the branches. The cold silence. There’s a strange, uncomfortable beauty to it. It’s hard being afraid of the night when you’ve survived some of the worst things this life has to offer. You embrace it. You walk fearlessly forward, no longer looking over your shoulder. Because—really—what is there to be afraid of anymore? What else could possibly hurt you more than what you’ve already lived through? I think I prefer the night. When dreams are easier to believe and you’re a little reckless with your thoughts.

“I have loved the stars too fondly To be fearful of the night.” Galileo

letter from the EDITOR

ello, H GENTLEMEN,

This is your friend Arman. I am currently playing Assassins Creed, Odyssey. It is quite a fun game. It takes much skill, passion and some ingenuity when you get to harder difficulties. Just like in life, there are many things that can call for your attention. You need to be passionate and driven on the things that really stoke your personal flame (or values). As we all know, life is over in the blink of an eye. And sometimes waiting to keep the best for last is not the best solution. We need to take baby steps towards our goals and dreams in life, what you want to do, not what the world has told you to do. Sometimes having a big, well-known title doesn’t make you a great person and does not necessarily mean that you enjoy or love what you do. If you are passionate about what it is you are doing with your own life, whether you are the best chef, janitor, or engineer, each of these things can make a difference in someone else’s life. Don’t chase the money, chase the passion. You can only serve one master, and do not let money be your master. “No one can serve two masters. Either 70

you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 I am not here to tell you how to become an overnight success, like these sponsored ads that you see on instagram telling you how to make X amount of money. You have to put passion into what you do. For me, it is working on this magazine and helping men learn useful tools for life. Be your own Spartan hero, that is what I am here to help you do (Assassins Creed emphasis added). My challenge for you is to set a personal goal and take the steps to make it happen. My goal is to come up with a way to get you guys to interact with me. :) Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Much love,

I would love to hear from you guys on what you’d like to read about. Drop us an email at beautifulndauntless@gmail.com (Type in the subject line: Dauntless)

Sara Robillard Art Director

ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman
