ABOUT BEAUTIFUL Beautiful magazine has always been a dream of mine, something that I knew would come eventually. I just cannot believe it is already here! Beautiful is a collection of art and illustrations, depicting inner and outer beauty. It is stories, it is real, it is life. It is pure beauty. Beautiful is fashion, health, beauty tips, encouragement, life, art and truth. Beautiful is about you, your story, your life, your love, your pain and your fears. Beautiful is about us, our stories, our journeys, adventures and our moments of life that have been crafted specially to share with you. I want you, the reader, to feel safe reading Beautiful. I want you to feel like you are a part of the stories, the adventures and the passion that each one of the editors, writers and photographers bring to you. ello,

BEAUTIFUL, I just love the month of November! Holiday feels are totally in motion and Thanksgiving dinner is on the brain. I love that Thanksgiving reminds us to step back and think about things we are thankful for. All too often, I forget to do that. This year, I have a lot to be thankful for. For the past month and a half, my feet had been in terrible pain. I do not know where it came from. I went to several doctors and they could not explain it because they did not understand it. I was unable to walk, work, exercise, sleep, anything (which is extremely difficult, especially when I live in New York City). Although this was the most physically painful experience I have ever had, it makes me thankful for the simple things, like walking. I am extremely grateful for my feet and I feel as if I had been taking advantage of them for years. I am thankful that they are finally coming back to normal and that I can walk again. This may sound lame to some of you, or completely silly, but it gives you a new perspective when something you rely on with your body revolts against you. In times of pain, we have to find something to keep us thankful; something to keep us sane. Whatever you are going through this year, during the holidays I hope that you can find something to be thankful for. I hope you enjoy this issue of Beautiful & Dauntless and as you read what others are thankful for, I pray it sparks feelings of thankfulness in you. Gray has been chosen as the color of this month. Though this color is often associated with gloom and rainy days, I want you to focus on the positive aspects of it: timeless, practical, solid, stable, calm, sophisticated, and strength. meet the BEAUTIFUL STAFF EDITOR IN CHIEF, beautiful

Karissa Hagemeister is on a life long journey in the pursuit of love, beauty and truth. Not only does she want to discover these things for herself but she desires to share them with anyone willing to watch and listen. Beautiful & Dauntless was birthed out of this desire. She enjoys modeling, acting and singing. She has her own fashion line and partners her business with a jewelry line, Chloe + Isabel. In July of 2016, Karissa published her first book. Her future plans are to revamp the fashion & entertainment industry with the love, truth and beauty through both her fashion business and Beautiful & Dauntless magazine.

Arman Irani is just another fellow human. He’s admittedly a little bit nerdy. How nerdy? Well, he just received a Bachelors degree in Nanotechnology. Arman loves working out, cooking healthy, dressing up, traveling and he’s also a bit of a gamer. He has no qualms with moving in faith to new destinations and embarking on new adventures in life (as the phrase goes, you only live once!). When it comes down to it, Arman believes life is short and hopes that you become inspired and believe in yourself to do the things that you want in this life and follow your calling.

Jackie Cullum, 26, is a wife, mom, and Chairperson for the Missions Committee at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Saint Leo University and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Southeastern University. She plans on using her degrees in the missions field oversees. Her passion is for children and she wants to work with orphans by planting orphanages to help get children off the streets and providing them with an education so that they can have a brighter future.

Arnette German is a native of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She took her leap of faith and finally decided to yield to her passion for fashion by enrolling in the online Graduate Program of Fashion Journalism at Academy Art University in San Francisco, California. No stranger to the stage, Arnette is a member of the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota, Florida. Presently calling Bradenton, Florida home, Arnette spends her free time either volunteering at her local church and spending time with friends and family, especially her best friend.

Arnette is a foodie and a lover of nature and the arts. Life is definitely, in some shape or form and fashion, being lived to the fullest. Sara Robillard spent the first part of her life growing up in New England, and about a decade ago, she found herself transplanted to Central Florida. Sara is currently working in a full-time marketing position, as well as attending college as a part-time student to earn a degree in graphic design. She has been working in graphic art professionally for over five years (unprofessionally for almost a decade) and truly enjoys creating and telling stories. When she’s not working or doing homework, Sara is either doing something artsy, enjoying the outdoors, traveling, reading, writing or lounging with her cat, Ruxin.

Xiomara Montalvo is a 21 year old university student that lives and breathes all things artistic. She has lived in Central Florida for half of her life, but is originally from Michigan. Xiomara will be graduating soon with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design with a concentration in Digital Imaging. Her goal after graduation is to work as a Layout Designer for magazines. While Xiomara is not studying, and completing assignments, she is painting, drawing or designing something at home.

As I reflected over the various things I am thankful for, many things flooded my mind. But the sole thing that resonated the most was someone telling me at the top of this year that being me works; which in turn, birthed my favorite article, Being You Works! And, in this moment of gratitude, I decided to reshare this article again. Not because it’s my preferred article but simply because this article personifies Gray, the selected hue for November through writing. “The color gray is an emotionless, moody color that is typically associated with meanings of dull, dirty, and dingy, as well as formal, conservative, and sophisticated. The color gray is a timeless and practical color that is often associated with loss or depression�. Yet, in this article I feel that it overrides the typical feelings and associations of Gray by sophisticatedly and conservatively informing one again that being you works!

Someone needs their thankfulness rejuvenated in knowing that you are enough and are the very needed to make and be a difference. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you for a second time...Being You Works! Again!

Often we might find ourselves reevaluating our worth, existence, being and/ or purpose. With February being the month reserved for love, this Valentine is dedicated to simply being head-over-heels with self...YOU (or at least falling madly back in love with) every facet of you again because BEING YOU...WORKS! Probably a Foodie whose an eclectic individual by nature, with a touch of goofiness that makes THE BEST grilled cheese sandwich hands down. Yes! These diverse traits and others-all of you works! Intermittently, life and/or others can intentionally or even unintentionally create a mental tug of

war within ourselves making us to feel that we were inadequate. But, if truth be told, sometimes the individuals handling us were not “authorized” in doing so. Ideally, the same can be said of the “constructive criticism” embraced from mouths that we “allowed” to “fashion” and/or “design” our lives.

In this season, this month of charity, receive this token of love...everyone does not have the mandate to speak into and over your life. Be “selective” in whom you permit to the deed of empowering and seeding your life because BEING YOU...WORKS!

In Fashion, it is often quoted that “less is more” which is the reason why I present small tidbits of my Valentine gift to you. So much can be stated, embraced and understood in directness. And in order for us to embrace the thought, “YOU matter” or “YOU are enough/are loved”...it simply has to be stated...in those exact words. Nothing more. Nothing less. And, nothing is more beautiful, chic, sexy, trendy and/or attractive than being delightful in the awe of YOU! At the end of the day, you are with yourself everyday and the least you can do for you is love and be in love with the “appearance” of you. Love Y-O-U! YOU are your trend, style and brand that we/others have to “buy” into. And, if YOU do not believe in what you are “promoting” or “selling”...how can we? After all, as Karl Lagerfeld, the Creative Director of the fashion house for Chanel advises, “ a respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul...fashion is a language that creates itself in clothes to interpret reality. Don’t sacrifice yourself too much, because if you sacrifice too much there’s nothing else you can give and nobody will care for you...”

Therefore, know the authentic you. Understand it. Build upon it, embrace it and enhance it. Love it. Be bold, courageous and chic-your chic...unapologetically chic because BEING YOU...WORKS! From Me to YOU, “I love you and applaud you because you...You Work! 14

I am sure by now you have seen the #metoo hashtags across social media and you have probably read a few of the girls’ stories. If you have not, #metoo is bringing awareness of just how many people (mostly women) have been sexually harassed/ abused. Some of these women have never shared their stories before this point. They felt like they could not because people would not believe them or understand. Or maybe they felt like they did not have a story to share, that they deserved what they received. The sad truth is, I feel that more women have been sexually harassed than not. I feel like I have seen all my girl friends on social media post their stories, or at least the symbolic hashtag. I too have been sexually harassed multiple times by strangers and boys I had considered to be friends. I am not here to share my stories, though. I want us to consider the importance of this topic. The world that we live in is very corrupt. There are many people that are driven by lustful, flesh desires. They have stopped seeing others as humans and look at them more like toys or objects in which they wish to fulfill their fantasies. We can point fingers at pornography, the many different forms of entertainment that promote this behavior (movies, music and tv shows), past generations, and the girls that choose to dress seductively. Honestly, they all have a part to play in this mess. However, pointing fingers does not fix the issue.

Sharing stories about the experience can be helpful ONLY when they are true. Just as there are many scumbags (as I like to call them), there are still good people in this world. I know quite a few of them. It is just as wrong to accuse someone who is innocent of this act as it is for someone to do these acts to another. Both situations ruin the other’s life. Also, accusing innocent people does not aid the cause of stopping these things from happening. It can actually do quite the opposite. We should not encourage our friends to start rumors about others or to accuse an innocent person. Instead, we need to punish those who have actually committed the acts. They need to be brought to justice right away so that it makes an example to the others. I do not think this alone will stop the madness but I would love to hear your input on ways we can help this horrible cycle and bring strength to the women that have been truly scarred by it. “

My name is Kristy Roman. Though I was born in California, I have lived in Siloam Springs, Arkansas for the majority of my adulthood and I am now in Nashville. I love the calm of the south and the kindness of lending a hand in that you see so commonly in Arkansas. I am a classy lady of true southern hospitality. I love Jesus with all my heart and am passionate about sharing His love with others and making a difference in people’s lives. Lives can be radically changed through him. My passion is singing, modeling and acting. I have done many musicals and have been singing for about 30 years. I have a wonderful supportive family, my husband Angel of 17 years, and two beautiful kiddos, Caleb and Rachel that keep us on our toes. I am a labor and delivery nurse as well and have gained many wonderful experiences and valuable friendships. the changing of seasons by Sara Robillard

W

hat I miss the most about living in the north is the changing of the seasons. Especially the fall.

As a child, I used to hate it when the leaves fell because of all the raking I had to do. But now, living in central Florida, I crave the sights and smells that the changing weather brings. It’s in my blood, I suppose. It’s too bad that attitude isn’t always applicable to other areas of my life, seeing as how I tend to resist change rather than crave it.

The anticipation of a darker, harsher season ahead brings with it telltale signs. The dying of some things. The cutting away. No matter how lush and beautiful season of fruitfulness, there always follows death.

“…Every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:2b. NASB Change is natural, and realizing that has actually helped me release some of my anxieties. There are things I wish I didn’t have to let go of. There are relationships that I’m having to re-evaluate. And there’s me always trying to find that middle ground; when once I relied so heavily on emotions, now I have found myself in the other extreme of relying too much on rationalizing and practicality. But even in the midst of all this, He reminds me who He is. He demonstrates himself through His people. He renews my hope in others, even as I find myself hurting and wanting to give up on everyone.

“…In the presence of him whom he [abraham] believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist. In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, ‘so shall your descendants be.’” Romans 4:16-18, NASB In my past studies, I found myself having a strange affinity with the life of Abraham. Stranger still was the multiple recitations of these verses to me today. Abraham had faith enough that God would raise his son from that altar. God made a ram appear out of nothing to take Issac’s place so that his promise would be fulfilled. In hope against hope, Abraham had faith and put it to action by his obedience, even though it didn’t make sense. Hope against hope. Even though I can’t say I really understand it, that best describes the state of my heart right now.

PROFILE: Mike grew up performing. After his father taught him to play guitar as a young boy, he went on to sing in the youth choir at church and perform in school musicals. He chose his college based on its excellent music and computer science programs. His men’s choir sang for President Ronald Reagan and he also had the opportunity to tour with a professional singing group. The computer skills he gained in college landed him an internship in California with Hewlett Packard, which led to an 18-year career in the tech industry. Mike was enjoying his roles as husband, father, martial arts instructor, softball player, scuba diver, and all-around goofball (says his wife) when he felt God calling him into music as a vocation. He left his comfortable corporate career to become a full-time musician. In addition to leading the music ministry at his church, he began performing at community events. His performing credits also include acting for film and television. Mike is now concentrating on professional voice acting, where he narrates audio books and e-learning courses.

Ingredients: 1/2 can of pumpkin puree 1 large egg 1/3 cup of nut butter (peanut, almond ...) 1/4 cup of agave syrup 2 cups of almond flour 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1/3 cup of sugar 2 teaspooms of pumpkin pie spice 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt 2 teaspoons of vanilla 1 cup of dark chocolate

Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a metal 8 x 8 baking pan with oil. 2. Combine all the dry ingredients in one bowl and mix well. 3. Combine the wet ingredients in a seperate bowl and mix well. 4. After both the wet and the dry mix have been mixed thoroughly in their separate bowls, combine them and mix well. 5. Add the chocolate chunks into the mix and stir once again. Spread the mixture into the prepared pan. 6. Place in the oven for about 22 to 25 minutes or until the center is set. Take them out when done and allow to cool for about 2 hours before enjoying. Yields: 12 to 14 brownies

Movie of the Month

VENOM T

he newest Marvel release was quite an interesting movie with an expected twist at the end. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, I am about to give the ending away - Venom becomes the good guy in the end. This is different than any of the Spiderman movies we have seen. This movie was the best that came out in October but it still was not all it was hyped up to be. Venom ate some pretty nasty things and in turn made his character eat some stuff that was a little on the gross side for a human to eat. I (Karissa) had to turn away from a few scenes because it was too much on the horror/demonic side and I do not like filling my mind with those images. Watch it if you must.

This months color is Grey which signifies stability, strength and calm. All of these factors can be found in a Dauntless Man. Having a stable mind is an important attribute to anybody; but being a leader for yourself and your family requires more than you can give from yourself. It requires a strength in an area that is unseen, called Faith. Some may have a little, some a lot, and others may not even know it exists. But like Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed...Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matt 17:20 NIV). In life your going to get knocked down: maybe it’s sickness, injury, financial or maybe even your own mindset that trips you up. I know in my life many of these things have tripped me up as well as my love for money, women, fast cars, drugs etc.

It’s something you as the reader will just have to experience for yourself, with your own personal relationship to him. When you start to form this relationship, it automatically gives you a calmness, strength and stability to your character that no drug, pill, or woman can fix. Learn to cultivate your thoughts on the truth in a world full of deception and lies. “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being” (Ephesians 3:16 NIV). In this life, which is short, you have to take a stand for what you believe in, what you value, and what sets your soul ablaze. Life is too short to go jumping from one thing to another. Find some stability, strength and calmness true qualities of a leader, that can help you live a life worth living! Much love,

These “pleasures” have actually robbed me of my life because unfortunately, for myself, these things did not take me anywhere that I found the answers I sought after. I have learned after being broken several times mentally, physically and emotionally that my faith in a God I cannot see is one of the most real things about this earthly life that I have lived. 62

ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman
