letter from the EDITOR

Hello, Beautiful , Happy month of Love and Happy Valentine’s Day! As you might have guessed, we are theming this month’s magazine: LOVING. Throughout the pages of this magazine, we are going to shower you with love. We are going to explain to you what real love looks like. We have great examples of what it means to be loving. I grew up with a broken family. Love was hard for me to understand and for a while, even harder for me give out. I am thankful that as a child, my foundation was in God. He took me through the many difficult years of pain, brokenness, fear, hatred and depression. He showed me what true love felt like, what it looked like. And he showed me how to use it to love myself and others. I pray that this month God would show you a new facet of his love. As you learn his love, may you learn to love yourself and pour the real love that he gives you out to the world. The world is starving for love and finding all the pretend versions of it. As you learn real love, do not be afraid to give it away to those that do not know it at all. Happy Loving! XOXO,

4

What do you do to show love?

I try to show love to those that matter most to me using all five love languages. My biggest love language to show most often is acts of service, though.

What is your definition of love?

My definition of love can be found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. This is the most thorough, accurate and true version of love I have ever found.

What are you hoping to get for Valentine’s Day?

I am going to be one of those typical girls just because I have never received a gift for Valentine’s Day. I hope to get red roses, chocolate and have a nice, romantic dinner. 5

Love Beats By: Arnette German 10

11

Love is a compilation of many disorganized and unsynchronized beats. They morph into soulful rhythms and songs when partnered with the right composers that are divinely appointed to individually transcribe our succinct language, whether it be for our heart, career, vision or even our purpose. Again, be it for eternity or for a season, Love has its own distinct cadence. Movement. Speech. Smell. Touch. And, when it is not performed in its authenticity or purest state, it can be out of step, out of tune, not in key... too flat, too sharp, out of pitch or just plain tone deaf...it is easily denoted. Surprisingly, this realization (but more so), confirmation for my article’s angle simply came by me missing multiple hints a.k.a. Love Beats that were being tossed to me after spending time with my eight year old niece, Jaya. Proudly identifying herself as my best “child” friend, this energetic, chic, girly-girl tomboy, passionately loves playing dress up and watching TLC Say Yes to the Dress. Today was no different, other than me unintentionally overlooking the opportunity she gave me to live the title of my article...Love Beats. You see, this afternoon, as I was brainstorming on this article i.e. it’s angle and format...just as I was getting ready to pen out some ideas, Jaya out of nowhere asks me to take her to Goodwill so she can go “dress hunting for her wedding on today and to spend more time with me.” She is asking, as if she got a “hit.” A “clue.” Or “beat” to do so (a Love Beat). Me, missing this apparent beat, inform her I’m unable to and end by saying, “we’ve already spent time together-we just played UNO in which I beat you 3x’s.” Her rebuttal was, “but I loooovvvee spending time you.” (Missed Love Beat #1). I told her I know and went on to inform her that due to my car being down and not having transportation, I was unable to. I’m left talking to myself as she races downstairs to “talk” to my sister (her mother) and my mother. Excitedly, she reports back saying we have transportation to go. But what is my answer to 12

13

14

her? You guessed it correctly, “No baby. Auntie is unable to go. She has to work on her article,” (Missed Love Beat #2). Oh yeah, I forgot to acknowledge her ability to soundly solve problems and coordinating as well, (yep! I also missed Love Beat #3). However, when she informed me she was going with her Mommy and Mama and threw in, “you can still come too.” Again, I stated no (Missed Love Beat #4). Unfortunately, when I changed my mind and said I’d go, because it dawned on me that Love was Beating...just in a different tempo than I was “traditionally” accustomed to, Jaya’s excitement came back temporarily only to leave again when we learned that the offer initially on the table was no more. But, Jaya being Jaya...passionately being relentless in going after her goal and being focused....the offer came back on the table and she, my sister and I went on to Goodwill. A lesson was needing to be learned...Love was being pushed...spoiled is the inappropriate or vulgar term to be utilized and/or applied here for this description at hand. Now, being transparent at this moment, I was taken aback when Jaya asked to go to Goodwill. But, you see the lesson at hand is that Jaya knew and understood how to talk my love language. Me, being a lover of thrift stores and boutiques...Goodwill usually is a place that she doesn’t care to go. But, knowing that this is my “thing” my “love”...it was there that I showed her it is the best dress up closet. It is where I just so happened to purchase a vintage 1980’s wedding dress (Love Beat Check #1). I demonstrated to Jaya that I in turn, understood and knew how to speak her love language-fluently (of course she was happy to Say Yes to the Dress)! Yet, lovingly revealing she wanted the dress and the time spent...she marched to our shared Love Beats! But, my Ah-Ha moment still didn’t come until the car ride-back. Excitedly informing me that I was her bridesmaid for her wedding tonight that will, “probably occur at 7pm or 8pm,” disappointingly, she inquired why I declined. 15

Reminding her of my article again, unbeknownst to her, Jaya morphed into Lori from Say Yes to the Dress, as she sophisticatedly, yet, matter-of-factly, questioned, “what is your article on and what is your title,” as if I was now an excited bride wanting the Kleinfeld experience! “Love, I replied. And, Love Beats is my title.” With a high pitch squeal, Jaya then stopped and said, “Love is trust.” And went quiet after that. Again, floored, it dawned on me that my Love Beats wasn’t just an article to be written but an experience to be felt and lived. It was to be a real encounter, a moment in time and not just a quick inspiration. Because Love is an experience. The baby was literally talking Love all this afternoon (on time, in January, in preparation for February’s theme of Love) all the while by coordinating time...making time possible to be spent with the person she loved, by creating an event that merged both of our love’s and interests so a soulful rhythm could be danced to and/or a heartfelt melody could be sung due to both of our love languages being in agreeance. And, this my babies, are Love Beats executed in its purest form. By Jaya stating “Love is trust” didn’t just speak volumes but gave the support to my angle and premise that Love is authentic which means trustworthy.

16

But, to think that by not sacrificing some more time and listening to my best “child” friend...on my part...receiving confirmation and experiencing Love Beats would have been MISSED! Today, my article was to be lived rather then just solely penned. Wanting to approach the topic of Love in a different way than the traditional way, this time, Arnette had to come in contact with Love’s approach in a nontraditional way...which when we double back to my initial statement, “Love is a compilation of many disorganized and unsynchronized beats that morphs into soulful rhythms and songs when partnered with the right composers that was divinely appointed to individually transcribe our succinct language be it for our heart, career, vision or even our purpose. Again, be it for eternity or for a season, Love has its own distinct cadence. Movement. Speech. Smell. Touch. And, when it is not performed in its authenticity or purest state, being out of step, not on key be it by being too flat, too sharp, out of pitch or just plain tone deaf is easily denoted.” My babies, in this month, make sure that you are equally yoked or divinely attached to who you are supposed to be dancing in step with and/or harmonizing with so you too can encounter the magic of Love Beats!

“ A wife of noble

She is worth far more than rubies.

32

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

Proverbs 31: 10-12 NIV

Continuing this study of the modern day Proverbs 31 woman, we come across these three verses that fit right in with the theme of Loving and through them we learn that true love always wins. “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” Proverbs 31: 10-12 NIV

These three verses give us a lot of insight on how a loving woman should be. Even though these verses were written thousands of years ago, they still hold truth for how to be a loving woman today. Love does not change. It is constant. The way to be loving is still the same as it was thousands of years ago. I chose to do a word study on a few of the keywords

picked out from these three verses to let us understand the text a little better: NOBLE Other Bible translations say worthy, competent, capable, virtuous, valiant, excellent wife. WORTH Means of substantial or significant value or merit, according to MerriamWebster’s Dictionary. RUBIES Other Bible translations say jewels or pearls. So this is in reference to the Proverbs 31 woman as being a costly gift, valuable and precious. CONFIDENCE Also translated “the heart of her husband trust her,” “has faith in her,” and “entrusts his heart to her.” LACKS NOTHING No lack of gain, profit in full measure,  33

with her he will have all he needs, she is a great asset to him, and he will never be poor - these are some different translations from this section of the verse. GOOD Other translations say “she will do him good and not evil.” This word when translated from Hebrew in the original text also means: graciously, joyful, kindly, loving, merry, pleasant, precious, sweet and pleaseth. Breaking down those keywords can give us a better insight into the understanding of the verses.

“A wife of noble character who can find?” Even thousands

of years ago, it was hard to find a woman with such noble (virtuous and excellent) character. Today it almost seems impossible. There are so many women that do not know their worth and do not respect themselves. It can be difficult to live a noble life when you do not understand how valuable you are. This brings us right into the second part of this verse.

34

There are so many women that do not know their worth.

“Her husband has full confidence in her.” When a

“She is worth far more than rubies.” All of us women on this

earth have worth. No one’s worth is greater than another. That is the beauty of equality. However, each one of our worths far outweigh the worth of precious gems (rubies and pearls). As stated, most women do not know this. They do not see themselves as worthy and therefore do not act out of worth. Somewhere in their life, someone told them, whether by words or actions, that they were not worthy. A person who understands their worth is going to act much different than one who does not (but that is another story entirely). These next few verses describes the noble character that a woman displays when she knows her worth (I will add in the difference of the character of a woman that does not know her worth).

woman knows her worth, she needs no other man’s love, attention and affection other than her husbands. She does not post nude, partly nude, or scandalous photos on the internet fishing for a compliment from other men. She does not brush up on other men to see if they are interested in her body or looks. She doesn’t flirt with other men. She doesn’t give other men the time of day. Why? She does not need to. She understands her worth and does not need to get affirmation from anyone. In this, her relationship with her husband is strong. He knows that she understands her worth and walks in it. He has complete 

35

trust and confidence in her and in their relationship. He has no need to fear her running off with another man or having an affair. This in turn enriches their relationship. Love wins. True love always wins.

“And lacks nothing of value.”

The things that are of value the most in a relationship: love, respect, trust and commitment are not lacking in value in these truly loving relationships. No good thing is withheld from the couple that know their worth and treats each other out of love.

“She brings him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” A woman confident in her worth lives with such noble character that she only desires to bring good to those in her life. There are no malicious intentions, there is no spite or hatred harbored within her from past hurts. She is loving through and through.

36

She lives out her entire life this way. Once you taste your worth, once you taste true love in your own heart, you will not allow anyone to “steal” your worth or to cloud your love with bitterness. A Loving woman loves herself first and understands her worth regardless of what others have done to her in the past. From loving herself, she is then able to love her husband fully. He has complete trust in her, knowing that she loves him fully and understands her worth. In loving him, she only desires to bring goodness into his life. Both man and wife are blessed from this woman’s ability to love. In the end Love Wins. This is real love winning. This is the goal that we as women should strive towards. It is the goal that I work towards everyday to have a happy life and someday soon a happy marriage.

A Loving woman loves herself first and understands her worth regardless of what others have done to her in the past.

Q&A

HANNAH LUELLA LOPER Where do you live? Orlando, Florida

What you do?

I’m a student at Florida Southern College studying for my undergrad as a double major in religion and philosophy. And eventually my graduate degree. What’s your fave food?

non burdening love that doesn’t judge but is unknowingly just given. Which I think goes beyond religion, but just the idea of having that mutual respect for all people, in every moment. I think it goes along way and makes life more enjoyable. Do you have any Valentine’s Day hopes?

I’m Ukrainian so I tend to really like some of the foods my mom made growing up. But I’ll pretty much meet anything.

I think for valentines I just want to make sure that my life is good, and I’m doing good things towards it.

Where can peeps find you on social media?

Who loves you?

You can find on almost an social media Instagram: @hannahloper, Twitter:@luellaloper, and my full name most any where else. What’s your definition of love?

Well, when studying Christian religion we speak of this love that exists where it’s love for people without preexisting notions, it’s this all surrounding inclusive

The person is more than just a person, who loves me the most in world is probably my family of course not just my relational ones but all the people who have come in to my life and have contributed to the person I’m trying to be. Photo Credits: Glynis S. A. Carpenter

Loving

Character in Action By: Xiomara Eve Montalvo

48

To be loving can be considered a character trait. To be loving means to be affectionate and compassionate. We all know of that one person in our lives that we consider to be the embodiment of a loving person. It can be the absolute worst day, and yet this loving person never seems phased by our hardship but instead helps build us back up again. What intrigues me about the word loving is that not only can it be a characteristic of a person but it can also be verb. We all know that verbs are words of action. Verbs indicate that something happened, is happening , or will be happening. Verbs can be dynamic or imply movement. Verbs give a direction and a destination. Therefore if loving can also be a verb, then that means things just got a whole lot deeper didn’t they? Loving someone is dynamic in its manner of reaching out to that someone. It moves beyond boundaries to let another person know that you are there for them. Loving someone directs them towards positivity and hope. It shows the other person that their destination resides with those who dearly love them. Loving as a verb in action is more profound than we may have realized. So in this beautiful month of rosy hearts and chocolates, let us reflect on how the action of loving is be put into practice in our lives and let’s go out spread a little love to those around us.

Love is sacrifice 52

by Sara Robillard

Real love is unconditional. It is not based on emotion. It is not contingent on the actions of others, while it itself is best expressed by action. True love is unshakable. It is the most powerful thing of all. Love hurts. It is not easy. Christ died for us out of love. Out of the desire for us to be nearer to our Father. Love was reason enough for God to become a man. Love covers a multitude of sins. It keeps no record of wrong. What an idea…especially for us. Us as small, wounded little creatures. What an idea to be loved like that… We can’t love like this. And yet we are commanded to love ourselves, love others, like this. Only He can through us. We are selfish. We want everything now. We hurt ourselves, we hurt others – even when we don’t mean to because we can’t see what He sees in us. It can be one of the most difficult things for us to accept. The harder

we fight it, the more tragic we become. But once we embrace it, once we allow it in little by little… oh, the beauty. Love heals. It doesn’t give up. It sustains us even in the darkest of times. These are just some of the things I’ve learned in the last few years. It is everything to me. It was something that had been so warped, so destroyed for me… and yet He has opened my eyes to remarkable truths. And one of the central truths is that love is sacrifice. Love is everything.

dauntless LOVING

64

by Arman Irani To understand that God is Love is a hard concept for some. It was a difficult walk for me because I followed the rules and trends of life according to what had been portrayed to me via movies, music, religions and my own quest to find out what love meant. Chasing the American dream, wanting to have all the materialistic possessions of a house, nice car, dogs, girlfriends, traveling, lots of money and just enjoying life. The Bible strictly states, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in 65 them.

For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:15- 17 NIV).

Well I guess I was listening to the lies of the Devil rather than my Father in heaven. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6 ESV).

Abba, our Father

In the religion, Zoroastrianism, that I was brought up in before learning the truth, I knew of God (or so I thought). I knew of being a good steward of the earth, thinking good thoughts, speaking good words and doing good deeds. Nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately there were no strict laws of what was considered “sin” nor a real definition of love to be learned. I also found out recently that Zarathustra, their prophet, died at the age of seventy-seven, at the hands of one of his enemies while praying in a temple. (https://www.czc.org/ about-zoroastrian). For me this was not enough, and it was not someone I wished to follow since he was unable 66

to be resurrected after death. I shared this story with you because each of us has a different walk with Abba (the Father) or ho pater in Greek. I want you to know that no matter what your current reality looks like that God has not forsaken you or left you all alone. He has wanted a relationship with you since the day you were conceived, in spirit, in Heaven and then born on earth by your earthly parents. We actually belong to him, we are from him. He is so awesome. Instead of forcing us to love him and ask for help from him, he gave us this thing called free will. He has allowed us to choose what we want to do with our lives and at the end of the day who we want to serve as our creator, Abba or Satan.

His Love

Satan is smart and has been allowed by God to run havoc on the world. Many people love to blame the problems of the world on God and ask him why he didn’t fix things here or why he don’t do this or that. Let me ask you, though, if you don’t have a loving relationship with your girlfriend/boyfriend or anyone and just ask or take take take, will not that person eventually turn his/her back on you because you don’t truly love

or care for them? You are just a user and expect to get rewarded because you have some type of ego and think the world revolves around you. I know because I used to be this way and had many heartaches, backaches and many doubts about who I was. I didn’t know what our Abba’s love was or felt like. “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him,” (1 John 4:16 ESV).

Father to All

I am glad I don’t have to do this life alone anymore, nor try and prove myself to the world, or live by some false religious teachings. I get to be who I am in Christ Jesus and no matter what the color of your skin is or what part of the world you live in, we are all his children and he has that much love for us all. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus,” (Galatians 3:28 ESV).

Jesus is my superhero! He told the Jews who thought they understood everything,

“Jesus said to them, ‘If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God,’” (John 8:42-47 NIV). “So my brothers I truly tell you the same, don’t get lost in this world, don’t become apart of it. Stay true to who God created you to be! Stay true to the promises he has said for you in the Bible and live according to his words for you. He loves you so much that he gave his only son up to be crucified, a chance for all of us to inherit eternal life instead of Hell. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life,” (John 3:16 ESV). Dahl Dahl & & Rice Rice

68

Dahl (Lentils) Ingredients: A bag of uncooked lentils Half an onion 1 fresh jalapeno pepper 1small tomato 2 tablespoons of olive oil 6 cups of water Spices to taste (garlic, cumin, turmeric, salt, pepper) Rice Ingredients: 1 cup of wild rice 2 cups of water Directions:

1. Add the wild rice and water into the rice cooker (best way to make rice ever). Put it on the white rice setting and let it cook.

2. Soak uncooked lentils in water for 10-15 minutes.

3. Dump out that water and put the lentils into the pressure cooker, along with 6 cups of water (or enough water to cover all the lentils and have about an inch of extra above the lentils). Add spices.

4. Close up the pressure cooker and let it cook on high until it “whistles” 3 times.

5. Turn it down to medium and let it “whistle” about 5 more times. Do not open immediately. Wait for the steam to be removed completely.

6. Saute onions, jalapenos and tomato on the stove.

7. Make your bowl: rice on bottom, lentils in the middle and saute veggies on top. Makes about 4 bowls

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

letter from the EDITOR

Hello, Dauntless, This month try something new and shower your woman with compliments all the way through the month. If you really mean that you love her, tell her - with words and actions. Maybe give her a nice massage or a well thought out date night. Or you can cook her a great meal, see recipe in the magazine (Youtube instructions are also available to watch). Also, try listening to her more. That is why God gave us two ears and one mouth. Pay attention to what she says and actually do it, instead of just saying “yeah.” Trust me this will go a lot further than a box of chocolates and roses. ;) Use your imagination and be creative. Each woman is unique, as you yourself are unique. There is no one size fits all. Do whatever you do from your heart and I am sure she will be pleased. At least once this month, play Nat King Cole’s “L.O.V.E.” for her. Ephesian 5:25 directs us, “Husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” Even if you are not married, but you have that special lady, make this time count for her and show her you love her. Have a blessed month. We would love have you guys join us for Live Prayer on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Peace and Love,

82

What do you do to show love?

I express love by protecting and providing for my lady, as well as listening. The manly roles: provide, protect and serve. Just like a warrior would.

What is your definition of love?

Never giving up even when things get tough, commitment and being an original not a copy.

What are you hoping to get for Valentine’s Day? More love from God and my woman.

ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman
