letter from the EDITOR

Hello Beautiful, This month is going to be a little different than normal, as far as Beautiful & Dauntless Magazine goes. We are in a big transition. This means things will be phasing out by next month and new things will be brought on. For now, all you need to know is that this month we have two themes that we are focusing on: Create & Challenge. These themes are sprinkled throughout the magazine and are intertwined in a delicate and extraordinary way. My life has changed quite a bit this month as well. I am having to incorporate more creativity into my day as well as my business. At the same time, my new husband and I are experiencing many new challenges as we quit the rat race and move forward on our own ventures. I love being creative and challenges always help push me to become a better me. This journey is going to be interesting to say the least and absolutely amazing at the same time. I hope that wherever this month finds you that you embrace the challenges that are facing you and grow from them, and I also hope you have time to feed your creative genius that is living inside. Bring Beautiful Back. #bringingbeautifulback XOXO,

What do you enjoy creating? I am a very creative person so I really enjoy creating almost anything that there could possibly be to create. I love making artistic pieces. I enjoy creating new foods. I absolutely love creating this magazine each month. What do you need to be challenged with? I think I need to be challenged with conducting more social outings. A lot of my time is spent inside my house working that I forget to go out and be social.

I Get It Now By: Arnette German

13

Hi God, I wanted to take time to say thank you for the season that you have brought me out of and the understanding and knowledge of you that you have heightened and brought me into. A lot of times, when our lives or walk gets a little bumpy, cloudy or simply boisterous, the fallacy that is taught or perceived is that tests, storms or challenges arise mainly because you are mad with us (me) or that we (I) did something wrong. When in actuality-it is the complete opposite. Challenges, storms and tests are what you use to locate where my faith is and where we are in you. I get it now. I get it that we are supposed to accept the process at hand...not folding, but embracing the lessons that are to be learned to take us (me) to the next level in our lives (my life) and in...you. And, once these life lessons are concretely learned, it will result in us (me) obtaining the life that you created...predestined for us (me)...only if we (I) stay the course. I get it now! For the life of me, it was hard when I tearfully tried hard to gain an understanding of why when I gave a wholehearted yes-excitedly and boldly declaring I wanted you and your will; I trust you with my life and use me how you see fit...I want to be who you have called me to be..., like it was instantaneously, everything but sunshine and smooth sailing came afterwards. Heartache, pruning, separation, loneliness, stretching and other things came into play more often than sunshine and happy days. Now, don’t get me wrong-there were sunny, homemade lemonade drinking, popsicle eating and kite flying days. However, I discovered that it wasn’t in those days that tested, developed and strengthened my faith; it was my challenging days...the stormy days...that not only showed me you...but..Me! 14

15

I get it now! And, thank you! Thank you for permitting-privileging me to know, see, feel and understand the healthiness and purpose for challenges. They are not designed to break me but to make me....elevate you. Challenges create the opportune time for us to see and experience your sensitivity, sovereignty, closeness and love that you have ready to offer so freely. It exposes your overall care for us. Though it felt like you were asleep during my storm or not even present, you were always there...walking beside me, keeping me and sustaining me. You care about us. Thank you for building us. It didn’t always feel good but in order for us to see ourselves as you see us ...the challenges had to be specifically customized and tailor made for each and every one of us individually, in order for our uniquely, creatively, fearfully and wonderfully made selves. Your creations, you said are a little lower than angels...to be the lights you have called us to be in this world. Diamonds do have to be created under immense pressure in order to be formed from coal. I get it. I get it now! And thank you! As I learned last month from Pastor Porter, you do not waste a good storm...so if a storm is coming...refining is coming. Value is being increased. We will not be alone in the storm/the challenge. If it seems that we are, you are still present. Progress is still being made even if it seems that it is obsolete during the weathering of the storm. We must continue to hold on to the promise that you spoke and made early on...for you still have the power to calm and speak to the waves...because you are the Prince of Peace and the best place to be when in a storm is in your presence... I get it now-thank you! Love, Arnette P.S. Thank you for the platform you have given me to be a voice...a fashionable one...of encouragement. 16

WASHBOARD ABS

PLANK

Planks are a great workout for your abs as well as your entire body. There are several positions you can plank in but this is my favorite (picture above to the left). Make sure your butt is down and your abs are sucked in. Hold this position for 30 seconds to start with. After a few days move up to 45 seconds and then to 1 minute. You can also do a side plank by twisting to one side and putting all your weight onto that arm and side of the body. Lift your other arm in the arm. Hold for the same amount of time. Make sure to side plank on both sides of your body.

RUSSIAN TWIST

Laying on your back on your exercise mat, lift your head, shoulders and upper back off from the mat. Keep your head and neck steady and pretend you are holding an orange under your chin. Keep your arms at your sides but up off from the ground. You are going to twist your upper body from side to side, using the muscles in your abs. As you move from one side to the next, let your arms reach down and tap your ankles with your finger tips. You can workout your abs everyday, and if your goal is to get them in shape, it would be a good idea to do that. Everyday, do this exercise 30 times on both sides, totaling 60.

Misfit

By: Xiomara Eve Montalvo

20

Have you ever felt that, despite how hard you try to “fit” in with your surroundings, you just lack that sense of belonging? Although we feel uncomfortable discussing the idea of “fitting in,” but the reality is that this is a very human thing to want to belong. To belong somewhere, to belong to a group, to belong to someone. To be accepted and not ignored. Instead, we feel like we camouflage with the background. Belonging not to a group but dissolving into the space in between. Invisible. As followers of Christ, we enter a kingdom of believers but that does not exclude us from feeling that we do not fit in. The funny thing is that maybe, just maybe, we were never meant to “fit in” the first place. Similar to trying to squash your foot into the wrong size shoe, it is a miss fit. Something that doesn’t fit. A Misfit is defined as a person whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others in a conspicuous manner. Conspicuous refers to something that stands out clearly and for all to see. Whatever it is that makes you unique, creative, or one of a kind just know that God intended for you to be YOU. He did not create us to be cookie cutter clones. He created us so that we reflect a unique and precious aspect of who He is. Christ in us. We are Misfits. We are in this world but not of it. Remember there is only one you among 8 billion others on this planet. I think that pretty awesome. So why spend a lifetime trying to live as someone else? Embrace the wonder and creation that is YOU and challenge the ideals that try to make you think otherwise.

p31 WOMAN SERIES

RISE 24

ABOVE 25

The Proverbs 31 woman of the Bible and the modern day Proverbs 31 woman have a lot in common. We both have many challenges, many responsibilities, and we have to go about fulfilling the responsibilities and overcoming the challenges creatively. Whether you are single, married or married with kids, you know the weight that the pressures of life leave on your shoulders. The Proverbs 31 woman of the Bible had just as much work on her plate, it just looked different than ours does today. As always, there are some key lessons we can learn from her to make our life a little easier. The Proverbs 31 woman is not only a Boss Babe (hard worker) but she is also a woman of class and of power. We have two sections of Proverbs 31 that we are looking into for this study. The first section comes from verse 17, “She sets about her work vigorously;her arms are strong for her tasks.” A woman that faces challenges on a daily basis (that would be every woman out there reading this), has to be strong. I do not mean she has to be a muscle woman, but she needs to keep her strength and her health in good shape (health in both the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms). If we cannot keep up with our strength and our health we will have a hard time facing and overcoming challenges. We will also have a hard time tapping into our creativity. Our minds and bodies are weakened and negatively affected when we do not take proper care of them. So the first thing we can take away is that we can keep our arms strong for the tasks that we have to complete. Take care of your health in all facets of the word. ALSO AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE. I am presently suffering from not taking care of my health as I should. I just got married. The last month leading up to my wedding became very crazy and I let certain things slip - namely, I did not take the time to workout my muscles or exercise my body as I needed to. I was so busy pulling the last bit of everything together that I neglected my health. Now I am trying to get back into the routine of working out. This is always the hardest part: starting. My body feels extremely tired and drained. I have no energy to do much of anything. But I know that I must push past this fog and get my strength back so that I can face the challenges that lay ahead of me. The second section we are diving into today comes from verses 22-24, “She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns. Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders. She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants.” As a Proverbs 31 woman, we should not sell ourselves short. We should not settle for anything less than the best. We should work hard and reap the rewards from the hard work, not allowing another to reap those rewards. Too often in my own life, I have put in the hardest and best work possible. I have been given pennies in exchange. I allowed myself to think that is all I am worth and that is all I can do, give my best and barely get by. But that, my beautiful Proverbs 31 women, is not true. Our hard work should re-

ceive what is due. As we see in verse 22, the Proverbs 31 woman works hard and makes her own bedspreads and linens, ect ‌ For the work she puts in, she is rewarded. It says that she is dressed in fine clothing and purple gowns. She is practically royalty by the way she dresses. This is the way we should expect to be treated, not as slaves to the rat race but as royalty to the Kingdom of God. This is how God wanted it to be. So the second take away we can get from this is to put in the hardwork and expect nothing but the best in return. Expect it and receive it. Do not accept or settle for anything less.

the merchants something of value to sell to their customers. In those days women did not amount to much of anything. But she knew that her goods and her work was worth so much more. Her husband, also knowing his worth, held a high seat among the other leaders in the city. They were a power couple. Together, they knew their worth, they worked diligently and received what was rightfully theirs. They overcame the challenges of those days by creatively figuring out ways to work all things out. The Proverbs 31 woman was given to us as an example. We can do the same as this woman did. There is no special advantage that she had. There are not more challenges holding you back than the next lady. Just learn to tap into your own creativity and find a way to rise above those challenges. I believe in you, beautiful. Rise above.

This woman could have been like others and received next to nothing for the things she diligently made. She could have spent her time traveling and trying to sell her goods. She overcame that challenge though by creatively deciding to sell her goods to the merchants. She made By Karissa Hagemeister a good profit from her goods and gave

Where do you live?

Phoenix, Arizona, USA What you do?

Let’s see. Besides being a mom to two handsome young men, I am between careers at the moment. For the past several years, I was a truck driver in the oil field back in my hometown in Texas. Since my move to Arizona, I have decided to pursue my goals and what I feel passionate about. That is to represent and encourage women of all sizes to feel bold and confident with themselves. What’s your fave food?

Hahaha. I get mixed reactions on this. I guess because most expect pizza or a burger. But hotdogs are my favorite. I have tried different styles, but the Sonoran style is on top of the list. It was introduced to me upon moving here (AZ), and I tell y’all, its hands down the best. Where can peeps find you on social media?

 /EmilieWaight

 @emilie_waight What is your definition of beauty?

Being a believer in Christ. Being bold, confident, fearless, loving, selfless and grateful. Smiles are always a key to defining beauty as well. What do you enjoy creating?

I’d say a memorable life. I love to praise the Lord, smile, dance, sing, play sports, and travel. Anything that is positive. I like to present myself with such positive energy, that others enjoy being around me and catch the vibe as well. Positive vibes plus being active, calls for creating great memories. Whoop, whoop!!! What do you need to be challenged with? Rest. Most definitely. I am always doing something or going somewhere. And patients with the morning traffic. What is Good-Natured Life and what do you do? The mission of Good-Natured Life is to spread kindness, friendliness, patience and to uplift minds across the world. We carry out that mission through adult and youth development. What Good-Natured Life does: consulting, speaking, and training. I recognized a market need for these virtues in the business and personal settings. As a society, we often fail to consistently utilize these qualities. By being reared in a good-natured (kind, friendly, and patient) household, I was able to use and see the positive impact these characteristics had on my life and others. As a result, I decided to encourage others to embrace this lifestyle. How long have you been speaking publicly? The inspirational tour will begin this fall and last throughout the school year. It is designed for high school and college students. The Wake, Rise, and Smile Tour is an extension of the youth development pillar of Good-Natured Life. Most of the locations are going to be in Florida. However, other locations include, but are not limited to, Georgia, Maryland and Washington D.C. What do you want the students to walk away with from this tour? The goal of the tour is for each student to understand their selfworth. This will be accomplished by providing an inspirational message

plus a Q&A session. In addition, each student will be gifted with a copy of Wake, Rise, and Smile for their personal library. This type of exposure and experience will encourage our youth to become good-natured, productive citizens. What are your future aspirations with the company and the tours? My future aspiration for Good-Natured Life is to expand our adult and youth development programs on a global scale. In reference to the tours, I would like to impact as many high school and college students as I possibly can across the nation. Conquer Your Giants by Arman Irani

46

47

This month’s theme is Challenge and I challenge you to be more of a spiritual warrior, not only a physical warrior, just like David was in the battle between David and Goliath. If you don’t know much about the story it’s a good one and should be read in detail (1 Samuel 17). Goliath was a giant over 9 feet tall (yes people that size existed) and he had a bronze coat of mail that weighed 125 pounds probably the same weight of Daniel!! Lol! Now, “For forty days, every morning and evening, the Philistine champion strutted in front of the Israelite army,” (1 Samuel 17:16). Talk about challenging, this Goliath was the biggest and baddest in town none of the Israelites wanted to challenge him due to his giant stature and mean demeanor. Most ran in fear when he came upon the battlefield… As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright. “ ‘Have you seen the giant?’ the men asked. ‘He

48

comes out each day to defy Israel. The king has offered a huge reward to anyone who kills him. He will give that man one of his daughters for a wife, and the man’s entire family will be exempted from paying taxes!’” (1 Sam 17:25-26). So David asked around to find out if this information was true and indeed it was. He went to King Saul and told him that he would accept the challenge that Goliath was laying down. “ But David persisted, ‘I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,’ he said. ‘When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!’ Saul finally consented. ‘All right, go ahead,’ he said. ‘And may the Lord be with

you!’” (1 Sam 17:34-37). You see, it’s not the fact that David himself was braver than the rest, it was God who had chosen him to be the one to step up to this challenge because of how David’s heart was towards God. David knew in faith that the Lord was always with him. The King wanted to prepare David for battle with the same equipment that other soldiers had but David being only a shepherd boy was not used to this, so instead he chose to go into battle the way God had designed him with five smooth river stones, a sling, and a shepherd’s stick. David went off to battle. The enemy Goliath cursed him with the names of all his Pagan gods… but David did not deter in his faith of the God of Israel, whom he fought

for! He took his sling loaded it up and fired.. first hit instant kill! Down went Goliath! David went up to Goliath’s body and sliced off his head!! Did David have faith in his God or what!? This story just amazes me everytime and is something I remind myself of when the enemy tries to attack me. Don’t forget who you really serve: a living God and a living King may all of those who read this message be blessed and reminded that God has already created you to be excellent and awesome. Turn to Jesus and follow what it’s like to be a Real man... Stay Dauntless!!

AWAKEN THE 6 PACK PLANK

Planks are a great workout for your abs as well as your entire body. There are several positions you can plank in but this is my favorite (picture to the left). Make sure your butt is down and your abs are sucked in. Hold this position for 30 seconds to start with. After a few days move up to 45 seconds and then to 1 minute.

Below, I am using an Inspire Workout Machine, but these same exercises can be done at your local gym (or in your house) with weights.

STANDING CORE ROTATION

Begin by selecting a manageable weight. Keep the weight about waist level. If using the pulley cable, face away from the machine, stand with feet shoulder width apart. Fully extend both arms. Using the weight or the pulley, rotate your body as far as possible by twisting, using only the muscles in your waist. At the end of the rotation, hold for a moment and then return to the starting position. Do multiple sets repeating the exercise movement with the other side of your body.

letter from the EDITOR

Hello Dauntless, Hope everyone is having a great month and enjoying each day for what it’s worth. This month’s theme is Challenge and I challenge you to be more of a spiritual warrior, not only a physical warrior, just like David was in the battle between David and Goliath (read my story for this month “Conquer Your Giants”). I hope last month was good to you..but even if it wasn’t remember that nothing lasts forever, except God and his Word. “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh,” (Ecclesiastes 3: 3-4). You may be in the planting season of your life: putting the seeds into a new career, fitness goal or relationship. Remember, no matter the challenges you face in this season that God is always there for you and has his purpose in mind for you to follow. Whether you choose to follow it is up to your free will. Remember our God will never leave us nor forsake us like many things in the world may. I challenge you to seek him first instead of the vices of the enemy to help soothe your soul. This month continue learning more about the Truth from the word of God. Don’t be afraid of trials and tribulations you may face. Instead take it as a great honor to have to endure and be sharpened and turned into a real man. I pray that this month will be a great one for you and you continue to persevere no matter what storms you may have to face. Be Dauntless, Be Strong, Stay Humble. “May the Lord bless you and keep you. May he make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face towards you and give peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 Stay Dauntless Strong! Peace out,

What do you enjoy creating? I enjoy creating new food recipes as well as creating good lasting memories. What do you need to be challenged with? I need to be challenged by Reality… it helps me to know where I’m at but also see the possibilities of where I can be as I continue to pursue the path Elohiem has laid out for me.

ABOUT DAUNTLESS BE A TRUTH SEEKER IN THESE TIMES OF DARKNESS. BE WHO YOU WERE CREATED TO BE. LIVE IN FAITH. BE BLESSED IN LOVE. FOLLOW THE PATH OF PEACE. BE DAUNTLESS. - ARMAN IRANI -

The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman PODCASTS: If you love to listen to podcasts, you have to check out our new podcast station.
