letter from the EDITOR

HELLO &

DAUN LESS Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays my sweet friends. I am so happy and thankful that the holidays are here. This year has been hard and crazy for everyone and it is just nice to enjoy the hope that the holidays offer. I am not normally the type of person to do this, but as you are out shopping for Christmas gifts this holiday season, would you mind shopping local and shopping with Arman and my boutique? We both had to quit our jobs due to covid and the vaccines. We started the boutique in October and offer some amazing products that you will not see anywhere else. We pray that you are blessed and doing well. As always: Stay strong and stay blessed! #bringingbeautifulback #dauntlessstrong XOXO

The Greatest is ... Love By Tamara Haygood

When I read passages where Jesus was teaching, it always seems there’s a bit more than the obvious. He taught many times in parables which amazed the people but even the disciples did not always understand what he was trying to convey. I think we can do that at times as well. We may read a passage and there seems to be a very clear picture of what is being said. What I try to do when studying the scripture is to first ask our Teacher, Holy Spirit to help me understand what it is that is being said. Interestingly enough sometimes one thing will be brought to me in a passage and at another time the same passage, yet another lesson. Which is one of the reasons I absolutely love the Word of God. Today we are looking at a passage found in both Mark and Luke. I am going to specifically look at Mark chapter 12, as this is one of the times where I found something more than the obvious. In verses 28-34 we see the religious leaders of that time, trying as they had many times before to entrap Jesus to say the wrong thing. They asked Him what the greatest commandment of all is.

Starting in verse 29, “And Jesus answered him, ‘The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.’” A bit further down in the same chapter, Jesus is talking about how the religious leaders profess their superior godliness, yet it is actually a pious front. And there would be a price to pay by these leaders for their actions. “In His teaching Jesus also said, ‘Watch out for the scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, to receive greetings in the marketplaces, and to have the chief seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They defraud widows of their houses, and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will receive greater condemnation.’”(verses 38-40). Interesting enough that He points out their treatment of the widows. God speaks out several times in the Old Testament of how the widows and the orphans are to be treated. Exodus 22:22 You must not mistreat any widow or orphan. Psalm 72:4

May he vindicate the afflicted among the people; may he save the children of the needy and crush the oppressor. Zechariah 7:10

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. And do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’

You see at that time, being either a widow or an orphan was not a place where you had much chance of betterment. Widows were not usually remarried; they didn’t necessarily have a way to create income. Women were not educated nor hired to do jobs. So they lived a very poor existence. Orphans did not have the opportunity of a family to grow up and learn the trade of the father or have his support during childhood or the inheritance that would come to a child with a father. So, God laid out strict guidelines on how He wanted these people taken care of and to be cared for accordingly. Yet Jesus states that the one who should have been overseeing the care and provision of these widows was extorting them and taking their homes, causing them to be homeless. In the very next passage, we see this widow woman coming to the temple, verses 41-44.

“And Jesus sat over against the treasury and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, ‘Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.’” Earlier we saw where Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment is. He said, love; love is the greatest commandment. To paraphrase, to love God with all that we have and all that we are, to hold nothing back, wholeheartedly. And then simply to love other people enough to treat them as you would your own self.

So many times, this verse is taught in the context of giving. But I think possibly, Jesus was talking about love.

The widow woman probably could have only put 1 mite in, that way she would still have 1. But Jesus said, she gave her all. When I look at this, I have to look inside of myself, and ask do I love you God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength? Do I love others as myself? Have I surrendered to You in the way You desire?

These are the questions that came to me in my study of this passage. This is not a moment of condemnation. But a moment of self- heart inspection. The Word indicates we move from glory to glory. I believe there are times when we must examine ourselves and see what God sees in us, and what may need to be adjusted. None of us have acquired perfection. But being malleable and pliable in the hands of God, gives Him permission to make us into the person He desires and plan for us from our beginning. Have a blessed day, my friend!

Your All

God really is simple. He’s not complex as some made Him to be. Yes, His ways are not our ways nor His thoughts ours; yet, in all of His sovereignty, He’s exact and matter of fact. God means what He say and says what He means. Faith moves and pleases God; it compels Him to work in your best interest bringing our it to come about and be. Settling your hope and confidence in Him, despite the what or the ever is the correct course of every time. Sometimes, from our perception, what God asks of us seems impossible, difficult, risky, costly, uncomfortable and/or an inconvenience. However, you’ve got to realize our what we’re possessing that He’s instructing and/or leading you to do, give, bring about or release has already come equipped with everything required to manifest into existence the end result He predestined all the while for either us or others. But, to get to that place with Him, you got truly know Him and then trust Him. It’s hard to place your trust into someone or something you don’t know. Trust is the essential ingredient to enhance the stability, durability and longevity within any relationship. Knowing God and knowing “of” Him are two different things. Knowing God is being cognizant of the fact that your trust is the glue that permits one to affix his/herself to Him-the bond. Knowing “of” Him is having your memory re-jogged of others stories and/or testimonies of God that you “know” but you just don’t have your personal story between you and God.

47

Now, for the woman that gave the best offering than any other person in the congregation in service with Jesus and the disciples in attendance, she knew. Giving her last, only 2 mites, could only be achieved through her faith and trust in God. Being in a sincere relationship with Him carried over and showed up in her offering. A sacrificial offering at that. She gave out of love, need (as it was her last ) and value (again as it was her last). This special lady understood the assignment in trust, faith and sacrificial giving. God always wants you to give your best and jovially! Therefore, I petition that you take time to see the importance in proclaiming God to be your Lord and ask Him to come into life to be saved or if you already have but went in your own opposite direction and to repent asking for forgiveness and allowing Him to take lead again-please do so so that you can affix yourself to Him. Remember, it is in the relationship, the bond, the giving of yourself that is greatest sacrificial gift of all to God because all He wants is you. And, when he has you, God can move and be what He needs to be for you. Trust me. He is waiting and standing there with open arms and an abundance of authentic unconditional love saying ever so softly, “Give me your all”.
