THE QUAY THEATRE ■ BOX OFFICE 01787 374745 ■ www.quaysudbury.com

Foreword Oh my goodness, what a couple of years it’s been for all of us! The Arts industry has taken a monumental hit since March 2020, with some venues sadly having to close permanently and performers having to diversify in their careers in order to survive. Our small community venues are so very important across the UK, not only for bringing Arts and Culture to the public but also offering community engagement, and acting as a hub for so many clubs and organisations. I would like to personally thank the amazing staff here at The Quay for going above and beyond in making sure that we are not only still functioning but that we are doing so with bells on! From helping to refurbish our public areas to welcoming back our visitors with their usual enthusiastic, friendly and competent efforts. Of course, we wouldn’t be able to serve the public without our fantastic army of volunteers, from Show Night duties to the Board of Trustees (boy have they had a worrying time of it!). Thank you so much to those of you who have continued to have faith in our little corner of the Arts world - we couldn’t do it without you! Thanks is also given for the continued support of Sudbury Town Council, Babergh District Council and Sudbury Dramatic Society. But of course, it is YOU, our customers and supporters, who have really made us understand why we enjoy what we do, through your generosity, praise and supportive words – not to mention your ticket buying prowess! THANK YOU! We are not out of the woods yet and we need your support more than ever. So please, book those tickets, use our bar, hire our spaces and follow us on Social Media. If you are able, do consider donating to our Quay Appeal (www.quaysudbury.com) to help ensure we continue to thrive well into the future. All of the shows in this programme are available to book NOW but do keep an eye out for additional shows added throughout the season along with special fundraising events and feature films. We will follow all Covid Safety regulations as they arise and will continue to do all that we can to ensure a safe and comfortable visit for all of our visitors. If you have any queries about this or any other matters, please do contact us. We look forward to seeing you very soon!

Hazel O’Connor: Breaking Glass 40 Years On. Hallelujah!

Tues 1st-Sat 5th March - 7.45pm Tickets: £14 (Thurs-Sat), £12 (Tues-Weds)

Mon 7th - Tues 8th March - 7.30pm Tickets: £25

An ailing Suffolk amateur theatre company need a ‘star’ for their next production, King Lear, to help save their village theatre. A fading American actor takes on the role, believing he is about to appear in Stratford upon Avon; however he finds himself in Stratford St John instead. Will he find his inner Lear?

The first major female star of the 80’s, award winning singer-songwriter Hazel O’Connor rose to fame over forty years ago in 1980 starring in the film Breaking Glass. There were hits and eye-catching Top of The Pops appearances aplenty along the way. Hazel's ageless songs include Eighth Day, Will You, Big Brother, Monsters in Disguise, Calls The Tune, If Only, Give Me An Inch , Blackman and Hanging Around. Celebrating the Hallelujah Moments of a stunning and illustrious live career, Hazel is accompanied here by virtuoso saxophonist Clare Hirst (The Belle Stars, Communards, David Bowie) on sax and Sarah Fisher (Eurythmics) on keyboards.

A gentle and funny play containing the twin pleasures of light comedy and Shakespeare. This amateur production is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD, a Concord Theatricals Company.

WINNER Saboteur Award for Best Spoken Word Performer 2021. John Cooper Clarke’s regular warm-up guy writes poems that are tender, riotous, caustic and romantic then delivers them with the ferocity and panache of a raconteur at the top of his game.

Probably the most authentic celebration of the legendary Cliff Richard & The Shadows, this show is a must for all lovers of great music and a tribute to one of the UK’s top recording stars and his backing musicians. “The likeness is truly amazing. The lead singer Adam needs to be seen by Cliff himself. He’s incredible.” “Authentic to the core. 100% pure brilliance.”

ROH Season: La traviata

J D King’s Elvis: The Legend

Wed 20th April - 6.45pm Tickets: £16

Fri 22nd April - Sat 23rd April - 7.30pm Tickets: £22

19th-century Paris is a place of contrasts; glamour and superficiality, love and lust, life and death. Courtesan Violetta sings some of Verdi’s most acclaimed arias including the joyous ‘Sempre libera’, in her poignant and passionate encounters with Alfredo and Germont.

The story of Elvis’s life in words and music. This is a musical journey through all the stages of the King’s incredible career from the ground breaking 1950’s rock ‘n ‘roll to the dramatic Las Vegas big band ballads of the 1970’s.

Richard Eyre’s production for The Royal Opera recently celebrated 25 years on the Royal Opera House stage and this year returns with acclaimed opera star Pretty Yende as Violetta.

An interactive and high energetic event boasting J D ‘s powerful vocals, pulsating dance moves and a truly uncanny characterisation of Elvis that not only leaves the audience utterly amazed but thoroughly entertained.
