INTRODUCTION

Foreword By Doreen Collins

Dear Residents and Visitors Welcome to the 25th edition of the Diss Town Guide. In this edition, we have tried to show some of the history of Diss by including a variety of photographs of the town over the decades. It’s fascinating to see just what has changed and what remains the same. At the same time, we look forward to the future of our town. We all know Market towns, their retailers and businesses face challenges from the internet and larger towns and cities but Diss has so much to offer the visitor and resident. There are a wealth of individual shops, the Corn Hall is a refurbished entertainment venue, the Mere and Park with its new play area, the Auction which has featured on various TV shows, many clubs and societies to join and so much more. New initiatives are being created to promote the town and its businesses so there is much to be positive about as we enter a new decade. The information contained within the Guide is as up to date as possible to obtain and grateful thanks goes to the committee and publishers for their efforts in completing this process. Diss Town Team (TT) had existed since 2010 as a constituted body but with no legal status. The aims of the new body are similar to that of the TT, to endeavour to make Diss a better place to live, work, visit or locate your business. Diss Town Team consisted of event organisers, Corn Hall representatives, Heritage Triangle Traders, Diss Town Council, The District Council, Park Radio, Rotary, local businesses etc. The DCT’s objective is to attract members from all areas of the community and it is hoped that they will be able to expand their membership accordingly. It is hoped that as a Community Interest Company (CIC) they will be able to generate funding to tackle some of the issues that are detrimentally affecting the town. They will also continue to facilitate and support the majority of events that take place in the town. Diss Town G uide 2 0 2 0 ‐ 2 0 2 1
