WELCOME TO

THE FISHER THEATRE Dear Reader, It feels like a lifetime since our last Programme was hitting the shelves. We promise not to mention that word we cannot escape from (we will try) but a lot of great work has happened behind the scenes whilst we have been closed. We have a brand-new lift installed ready for our September season, a refurbishment of our back toilets and a new-look Bar. However, we have missed you all and are eagerly waiting to welcome you back to the Fisher. We will also be welcoming our new Centre Manager to the Fisher very shortly. Watch out for an announcement on Social Media in the coming months. Our season starts with a couple of taster performances in August, welcoming back to the Fisher Ellie Foulger with her Night of Musical Classics, and Quill & Inkling presenting The Scarlet Pimpernel. Our season is filled with great music and performances from some of our house regulars such as ELO Encounter, Johnny Warman, Voodoo Room and of course some artists new to us. Our Artistic Patrons Luke Wright and James Mayhew both return with new work. We would like to thank them for their continued support of the Fisher Theatre. The Fisher Youth Theatre Group returns to the Fisher with a wonderful production of the Grinch and of course not forgetting UpShoot Theatre Company presenting our Panto Peter Pan which will be a Perfect Pan-to to finish 2021 in style (Oh yes it will!) At the time of writing, there are still some restrictions and rules in place and, although we hope our season from September to December will remain unaffected by any restrictions, all performances listed may be changed or altered to fit with any rules that may remain in place. Full details will be on our Website and Social Media channels. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Fisher Theatre very soon.

What does that mean? Well, it’s hard to explain - but imagine seven lifetimes of folk, Americana, pop, rock and progressive influences, pushed together, kneaded and reshaped over literally several rehearsals into exquisite musical stories of love, loss, laughter and lighthouses, told with guitars, fiddle, banjo, flute and plenty of vocal harmonies. And a vibraphone. Still not sure what to expect? Good. That’s just how this extraordinary band likes it."

THE GALLERY UPSTAIRS

David Pairpoint: Suffolk Seasons (after W.G. Sebald)

Jack Crampton: A Landscape Scrutinised

12th September – 28th October

31st October – 19th December

Following his very successful show here in 2019, David Pairpoint returns to the Gallery with a new group of paintings, this time based on the Suffolk landscape. His inspiration comes from a re-reading of W.G.Sebald's haunted Suffolk pilgrimage 'The Rings of Saturn'. “Exploring little-known corners of the county – small farms that were witness to tragic events, the site of a long-forgotten moated hall and bygone farming methods reinvigorated, the work follows the seasons and my experiences through a year of my life painting this corner of Suffolk.”

Although apparently abstract in character, Jack Crampton's rich and vivid paintings and reliefs are, in fact, strongly rooted in the landscape. It is, as he observes, “scrutinised daily with massive love and attention. It is never merely a view. Consider the trajectory of a bird, the shape of a winding road across the Haddiscoe marshes, how a brush loaded with paint moves to cover the ground. Examples are endless...Whilst embracing the archaic ideal of landscape it's always exciting to notice how the everyday creeps into the picture. Its creator is often the last to notice!” If you’d like to receive an invitation to Private Views, please email info@fishertheatre.org Please note this room is occasionally used for functions booked at short notice when the gallery area will have to be closed, so do check beforehand if you are travelling any distance on 01986 897130.

Luke Wright presents Come! Come On! Meet Me! Saturday 6th November, 7.30pm • £15 Luke Wright emerges from his enforced retirement with an infectious thirst for life. But what kind of life, and does it bear any resemblance to the one he had before? Against the backdrop of pandemic politics, ageing parents, and endless droning culture war, Wright holds a squat party in his 'poor old heart.' So come on, put your name down alongside a cast of murderous swans, sozzled devils, and the people we most want to protect. Whether he’s playing master of ceremonies at a Libertines show in front of 5,000 screaming rock fans or reciting Georgian ballads down your local, Luke Wright is adept at taking poetry places it doesn’t normally go. His poems can be tender, riotous, caustic or romantic and he delivers them with the ferocity and panache of a raconteur at the top of his game.

Bungay Film Club Presents – Portrait of a Lady on Fire (15) Thursday 11th November, 7.30pm • £5/ £2.50 (Members) Like Paul Thomas Andersons’ Phantom Thread, which is full of secret messages which are only obvious once you know where to find them, this glorious and heartfelt story is about two women coding their feelings onto worldly things, and that precedes the birth of love. Sciamma’s recurring obsession in all of her films, is with marginalised people and their social microcosms at times of discovery and growth. Her stories are driven by naturalistic events but powered by emotions too huge to be fully articulated. Director: Celine Sciamma. Starring: Adele Haenel and Noemie Merlant. Runtime 122 minutes. In French and Italian with English subtitles. France 2019.
