The Arctec R is the most advanced carbon frame ever produced by Apollo. The super light modular monocoque carbon frame utilises a unique multi weave carbon construction technique further enhanced with CSCNT Nano technology. This technique utilises ultra light 60T carbon to keep weight to an absolute minimum along the frameâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s centre section where less strength is required. 40T carbon wraps around the bottom bracket and head tube junction points where the frame requires the most strength. Other sections of the frame use a combination of both of these carbon fibre sheets together with 50T carbon. These three different raw carbon materials all have their own advantages and when they are precisely laid up together in a specific way it allows for much greater control over the ultimate characteristic of each part of the frame.

This extremely labour intensive construction technique starts with the carbon raw material being impregnated with CSCNT Nano technology. These microscopic particles are readily dispersed into the carbon providing better interlaminar strength and better vibration absorption. The result is a stiffer frame that is more responsive and more comfortable allowing an athlete to ride at high speed for longer with less fatigue. The carbon material is then laid up around polyurethane inserts that provide temporary structure to create the framework of the tubeset. The carbon material is able to be controlled both inside and outside the frame as it is molded resulting in a frame with superb consistency and no wrinkles or excess resin.

TECHNOLOGY

MULTI-WEAVE CARBON LAYUP Every carbon frame in our range uses only the highest quality Japanese Toray carbon raw materials. Different carbon grades have different attributes and by utilising various grades of raw carbon material in each frame we are able to maximise the attributes of these raw materials. For example, 60T carbon is incredibly light but not very strong. By using lightweight carbon along a tube’s centre section intertwined with denser raw material in and around junction points we can maximise the stiffness to weight ratio. This is an extremely labour intensive construction technique that ultimately allows us to manipulate specific areas of the frame without adding extra weight.

SLIM MONOSTAY The superior ride quality of our high performance carbon road frames is partly attributed to the balance of frame rigidity and ride compliance. The Super slim monostay provides balance by providing a small amount of vertical flex that dampens the vibrations coming up through the frame. These vibrations are commonly referred to as road buzz and contribute to rider fatigue during long rides. To further eliminate road buzz we utilise a traditional geometry or diamond frame design in each and every one of our road bikes; the same type of classic styling that has been race proven over generations, racing to victory in the world’s toughest bike races and in the most gruelling endurance events. The main feature of a classic (diamond) frame is the two large front and rear triangles. This design uses longer length tubing than compact frames and that extra length allows bumps and road vibrations to be soaked up along the length of that tube in a way that compact frames simply cannot achieve. This substantially increases a frame’s compliance and comfort. You get a smoother, more comfortable ride.

TORSION CONTROL STAYS Asymmetric torsion control chain stays are taller than those used on many high-end carbon bikes. These chain stays are incredibly stiff and balance the ride compliance of the seat stays. The stay on the non drive side is shorter and wider than the drive side to ensure maximum power transfer is delivered to the rear wheel.

POLYURETHANE INSERT Polyurethane inserts provide a temporary framework to construct the lay up of the carbon material. The carbon material can be supported both inside and outside the frame as it is moulded resulting in a frame with superb consistency and no wrinkles or excess resin.

WRINKLE-FREE MOULDING TECHNOLOGY Advanced construction techniques allow us to control the carbon lay up inside and outside the frame walls as it is constructed. This process ensures the frame is wrinkle free and provides a much more consistent resin content in the carbon. Carbon wrinkles are often formed where two carbon sheets meet and is a weak point that affects a frameâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rigidity and reliability.

NANO TUBE TECHNOLOGY Microscopic CSCNT Nano particles are embedded in the raw carbon material and are readily dispersed into the carbon providing better interlaminar strength and better vibration absorption. APOLLO 29ER DESIGN A low front end is essential to keep a 29er balanced with enough rider weight over the front of the bike to provide good traction to the front wheel. Responsive head angles provide fast steering and are essential to counter the large diameter and extra weight of a 29erâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s front wheel. A longer top tube pushes the front wheel further in front of the rider. This is key in providing enough length to the bike to allow the steeper head angles required to achieve responsive and agile steering.

A wide flat bar with 10 degrees of sweep increases leverage and gives more steering control. A shorter stem and a bar with added sweep sees the riding position ultimately end up very similar to what you would ride on a 26â&#x20AC;? bike. A 15mm through axle on the front wheel increases the stiffness of the front hub by increasing the contact area between the oversized hub axle and the fork. This added stiffness provides a livelier responsive 29er wheel.

Tapered head tubes increase the contact area between the fork crown and the head tube and increase rigidity. This increases the responsiveness and feeling of agility in the front end of the bike. Eyeleted rims dissipate rim stress from high spoke tension over a slightly wider area. 29ers have long spokes and therefore these spokes are more prone to added flex. Our 29er wheels run slightly higher spoke tensions to ensure a lively ride.

Short chain stays accelerate faster on any bike. Because 29er wheels are bigger the chain stays must be longer than a 26â&#x20AC;? bike and this can result in a 29er having very slow acceleration. Our curved seat tubes combined with specific front derailleurs that require very little clearance allow Apolloâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 29ers to run extremely short chain stays. Stays that still allow enough clearance to run a 2.25 tyre in muddy conditions. A low centre of gravity is essential to combat the higher wheel axles height off the ground. Our advanced geometry sits the rider in the frame, not on it.

arctec 9 TECHNOLOGY

SLIM MONOSTAY The superior ride quality of our high performance carbon road frames is partly attributed to the balance of frame rigidity and ride compliance. The Super slim monostay provides balance by providing a small amount of vertical flex that dampens the vibrations coming up through the frame. These vibrations are commonly referred to as road buzz and contribute to rider fatigue during long rides. To further eliminate road buzz we utilise a traditional geometry or diamond frame design in each and every one of our road bikes; the same type of classic styling that has been race proven over generations, racing to victory in the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s toughest bike races and in the most gruelling endurance events. The main feature of a classic (diamond) frame is the two large front and rear triangles. This design uses longer length tubing than compact frames and that extra length allows bumps and road vibrations to be soaked up along the length of that tube in a way that compact frames simply cannot achieve. This substantially increases a frameâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s compliance and comfort. You get a smoother, more comfortable ride.

MONOCOQUE CONSTRUCTION A three piece Modular modular carbon construction is used on all our carbon frames. The front triangle of the frame including the seat tube and bottom bracket is assembled as one piece with the chain and seat stays separately assembled and bonded into the main frame.

ASPIRE RANGE 27.5” wheels and tyres have less mass and consequently weigh less than their 29er counterparts. 27.5” wheels thus accelerate faster.

27.5” wheels have shorter spokes and smaller rims so theoretically they will build into stiffer, more reliable wheels.

27.5” wheels require less braking force to slow down. This is especially relevant to price point bikes with mechanical disc brakes.

27.5” bikes selling in the low to mid price point use lighter rims and tyres which results in a significant weight advantage.

We believe 27.5” bikes will ultimately become the top selling MTB platform because it makes a ton of sense. Better traction and more momentum than 26”, but lighter and more agile than 29”.

WHY 27.5? If you are in the market for a bike that retails for less than $1500 you should consider 27.5” wheels.

27.5”wheels require less pedal force when climbing uphill, so they climb better.

When traveling at slow speeds and through tight turns there is much better steering responsiveness and more agility.

27.5” bikes are easier to pop up the front wheel and flick out the rear wheel with more playful handling.

27.5” bikes will never be described as “handling like a tractor”.
