lexandre Duarte’s photography is unique because it doesn’t cling to the same style or to the same functional solution already proven and approved by the observer. His photography is varied, different and always surprising. But the foundation of his work, despite its diversity, is this momentary look, with the creativity that comes from the city, this city that enslaves and frees the souls that are being imprisoned by Alexandre’s camera. The best way we find to conceptualize Alexandre Duarte’s work is that fundamental moment when any child realizes his individuality and becomes aware of everything that makes him unique and unrepeatable. That magical moment when he realizes that no one else can see through his eyes. It is those moments, forgotten by us adults immersed in an agitated life, that Alexandre Duarte captures twice: the child that is forgotten in each one of us - that unique and individual look of which we have long forgotten - and the adult, strayed in the crowd, in the impossibility of modern agitation, in the solitude common to all humanity. This is the look that Alexandre Duarte brings us, captured in small moments, in seconds only. Whether in Brussels, Berlin, Lisbon, New York or Astana (now Nursultan) the human beings that Alexandre portrays, without reenactments and captured at the moment, see themselves all in arms with their own humanity. Alone we enter a scene and alone we leave, even in the middle of the busiest city. It is this second that lets us see the true nature of the photographer as well. A soul catcher, in the middle of loneliness.

fotografia do Alexandre Duarte é única porque não se agarra ao mesmo estilo nem a uma mesma solução funcional já provada e aprovada pelo observador. A sua fotografia é variada, diferente e sempre surpreendente. Mas o fundamento do seu trabalho, apesar da sua diversidade, é esse olhar momentâneo, com a criatividade que vem da urbe, essa urbe que escraviza e liberta as almas que vão sendo aprisionadas pela câmara do Alexandre. A melhor forma que encontramos para conceptualizar o trabalho do Alexandre Duarte é aquele momento fundamental em que qualquer criança se apercebe da sua individualidade e toma consciência de tudo o que a faz única e irrepetível. Esse momento mágico em que se apercebe que ninguém mais pode ver pelos seus olhos. São esses momentos, esquecidos por nós, adultos mergulhados numa vida agitada, que o Alexandre Duarte capta duplamente: a criança que está esquecida em cada um de nós - esse olhar único e individual do qual já há muito nos esquecemos - e o adulto, desgarrado na multidão, na impossibilidade da agitação moderna, na solidão comum a toda a humanidade. É este o olhar que o Alexandre Duarte nos traz, captado em pequenos momentos, em segundos apenas. Seja em Bruxelas, Berlim, Lisboa, Nova Iorque ou Astana (agora Nursultan) os seres humanos que o Alexandre retrata, sem encenações e captados no momento, se vêem todos a braços com a sua própria humanidade. Sozinhos entramos num cenário e sozinhos saímos, mesmo no meio da urbe mais movimentada. É esse segundo que deixa ver a verdadeira natureza também do fotógrafo. Um capturador de almas, no meio da solidão.

Alexandre Duarte, nacional português, nasceu em Bruxelas em

no estrangeiro. Durante a sua adolescência descobre a fotografia
1965. Filho de pai diplomata, passou uma boa parte da sua vida
