We are excited for this new venture of hosting our annual sale at the C Diamond Ranch and we want to formally invite you to join us. Since 2007 we’ve marketed our bulls in the Breeding for the Future production sale co-hosted with Wilkinson Farms Simmentals. As both of our programs and family partner numbers continue to grow, we felt it was time that we have separate sales and have decided to hold our annual sale at our ranch. We have appreciated the opportunity to work with the Schlenker family and have developed cherished friendships and a deep respect for their family and the Simmental cattle they produce. May God continue to bless their family as well as their business endeavors. The bulls offered this year are our most impressive set yet! We have a larger group to select from and many new outcross matings! While we still have an extensive lineup of purebred Simmental bulls, we have expanded our SimAngus™ selections. By heavily utilizing embryo transplant, we’ve been able to propagate progeny from our top cow families with many full and half brothers selling this year. New sire groups, which include CDI Hometown, TJ Power Grid, and SVS Captain Morgan, are all outcross genetics, yet come from proven pedigrees. Along with our spring born bull crop we are debuting “Age Advantage” 18 month-old bulls, in which 95% are direct ET sons out of our top donor dams. We can’t wait for you to evaluate them. Along with being in a new location at C Diamond Ranch in Neil and Carmen’s heated garage, the sale will also have a new format! This will be a video auction with the bulls being penned right outside for convenient viewing. No bulls will go through a ring. We hope you have a chance to visit the ranch before sale day to go through the bulls. We do offer a $100 sale day credit towards the purchase of a bull if you visit the ranch between Jan 1st and Feb 22nd. Videos of all the bulls will be available online in early February on dvauction.com. These videos are a valuable tool, along with the catalog, to help become familiar with the sale day offering. We will post a link on Facebook and on our website as soon as they are available. We encourage you to come early on sale day as bulls will be on display by 9:30am and coffee and breakfast snacks will be available. ADG & Feed Ration
The average daily gains were figured on a 102 day test. We work with PNC Feeds of Hebron, ND for balancing the ration.
Delivery:
Liability:
The fall bulls will be delivered shortly after the sale. Yearling bulls will be fed for free, semen tested and delivered after April 1st. Bulls will be delivered free of charge up to 250 miles from the ranch. We will work with the buyer to arrange the most economical delivery for distances beyond 250 miles.
Insurance:
Any cattle selling to Canada will be delivered to the nearest ND/CAN border crossing facility. Buyers will be responsible for any costs associated with testing/clearance for export.
Any person attending the sale does so at his/her own risk. Neither the sale management, owners, nor any person connected with this sale, assumes any liability, legal or otherwise. We will not be responsible for death or injury. We highly recommend that you insure your bulls. Insurance will be available sale day.
Semen Interest:
C Diamond Simmentals reserves 1/3 semen interest and the right to collect semen on any bull sold in this sale (for in-herd use only). This would be done at seller’s expense and buyer’s convenience.

NEW THIS YEAR Docility Scores (Doc): New this year you will see a docility score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle: 1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

Genomic Enhanced EPDS: Many of the bulls selling in the 2016 Sale have
EPD’s enhanced with DNA technology. We are investing in the latest technology available to provide you with the most accurate EPD’s possible. This technology improves the accuracy of EPDs on yearling bulls as if they were an older bull with progeny proof! You will see “Genomic Enhanced EPDs” at the beginning of the footnotes of the bulls that have genomic enhanced EPD profiles.

BELOW IS A QUICK REFERENCE TO AN EXPLANATION OF EPD’S: kidney, pelvic and heart fat. 3) hot carcass weight 4) rib eye area. A (–) EPD is better. Marbling (MRB) marbling score. Indexes: The last two columns in the EPD section are fairly new to the Simmental breed, but interesting, they are $ indexes. Though EPD’s allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes blend EPD’s & economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. All Purpose Index: (API) It is exactly what it says, all purpose. This index includes every trait that can be calculated: calving ease, pounds at weaning and yearling, keeping replacements back, milking ability and stayability, then the calf crop. It took into consideration, some being retained as replacements, then the rest being fed out and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): This index is to be used if all calves are going to a feedlot. It evaluates a sire only for use on mature cows with all calves put on feed and sold grade and yield. No other factors were figured in. Using API and TI: First determine which index to use. If you’re breeding heifers and keeping replacements, use API. If all calves are going to the feedlot and finished, use TI.
Expected Progeny Differences “EPD’s” are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using the EPD differences between two sires EPD’s represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. (Listed below are the units ASA EPD’s are expressed in). (Average EPD’s are on the bottom of the percentile table above ) Calving Ease (CE) percentage of unassisted births when used on heifers. Birth Weight (BW) pounds of birth weight. Weaning Weight (WW) pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW) pounds of yearling weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE) percentage of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Maternal Milk (MM) pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW) pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Stayability (Stay) percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Carcass Weight (CW) pounds of carcass weight. Yield Grade (YG) yield grade score. Yield grade is an indication of the yield of red meat within a carcass. It is calculated by using several factors including 1) fat thickness, 2)

An ultra-low birthweight, calving ease prospect that will not only calve easy, but transmit eye appeal and thickness. His ratios are all above 100 and is top 1% for CE, BW, API and TI! A 61 lb BW to a 104 WW ratio is hard to pull off!

Another Rimrock x Teton cross that would be a great choice for a heifer bull and if you need a pair of similar type and pedigree, Lot 4 would be the bull to buy along with him. Ultra low birth weight, sleep all night heifer bull sums up Xpectation. His daughters are now in production and have udder structure and milking ability to build a herd around. They are feminine and stylish. His sons have held our high selling spot in the bull sale two years in a row. In the spring of 2014, Xpect was injured in a bull fight, fracturing his back leg, he healed up and collected a couple thousand units of semen and went back to breeding a small group of cows this past summer. If you come looking for an Xpectation with some added frame and tremendous cow family, 272C will be on your short list. He should calve easy on well managed heifers or young cows, yet add some skeletal frame and performance to his progeny. Once again this year, we have an outstanding purebred son that we feel is in a league all of his own. His dam, HSF Red Fortunes Sis 33R has a long production history of producing standout, outcross genetics and we feel 255C has the potential be one of her greatest masterpieces yet! When you evaluate him, you will find the most bone, muscle, frame and overall power that we’ve seen in an Xpectation son. He strides out on great Simmental feet, covering his tracks well and has just the right amount of set to his rear leg. He is quite possibly one of the best red herdsire prospects you will find this coming spring. 255C could easily go any direction desired. NEW THIS YEAR Docility Scores (Doc): New this year you will see a docility score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle:
1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

Genomic Enhanced EPDs. We sampled Spartan on heifers with the hopes he would add body and style and moderate the frame on the larger black heifers. 309C is a good representation of that cross. He would work well on a group of young cows, or even work as a bull to use on Angus based cows to add heterosis but keep that “angus” look to the calves.

AGE ADVANTAGE DIVISION For the first time, we are excited to offer 18 month old “Age Advantage” bulls for your consideration. We started a fall calving program in 2014 by purchasing Trans Ova recips pregnant with our own embryos and the following lots are the results of that first fall calf crop. These bulls are impressive and are ready to go to work! They have been developed in a way to ensure longevity and are ready for heavy service. All bulls selling are virgin bulls and will be semen tested before the sale. Delivery of the fall bulls will begin very shortly after sale day. You will notice that the data layout in the catalog will be a bit different than the spring born bulls. Being 95% of the fall bulls are embryo transplant calves, their individual weights do not contribute to their EPD calculations (just like all ET calves.) Management of the fall born calves was very different than the spring calving herd. After weaning, the fall calves were turned out on grass for the summer with no grain supplementation. The bulls were brought back home in October and started on a TMR ration with free choice grass hay that has been continued till sale day. We would like you to sort these bulls on their phenotype, EPD profiles, and pedigrees. The bulls have GGP-LD genomic enhanced EPDs and you will see varying EPD profiles within flush brothers to help identify genetic differences between them. Very few older bulls are offered in our north country and we hope in the future as the group of fall bulls being offered grows that customers have additional bulls to choose from within our program for their specific needs.

Genomic Enhanced EPDs. This group of flush brothers out of SVS Captain Morgan and Hook’s Mika 141M are a totally different type than the ½ blood flush. These bulls have that attractive purebred Simmental look with plenty of bone, excellent depth of body and expressive muscle patterns. When searching for a Canadian bull to sample, Captain Morgan seemed like the logical choice. He was the high selling sim bull in Canada that year, selling for $190,000 and was used by many top Canadian programs. These sons offer an outcross pedigree to most US red sim genetics, but is yet a proven pedigree that can offer many different positive aspects. Lot 91 & 92 are full sibs in blood to our old herdsire, HSF High Roller. Many of you that have followed our program know the positive impact that High Roller had on our operation. This mating was done with the hopes of producing full sisters to High Roller, but only yielded bull calves! Gambler semen is not easy to find, making these bulls two rare genetic pieces. They have some extra skeletal frame and length to them. Like High Roller they should produce tremendous females.

This hetero black Xpectation son looks to be a calving ease deluxe bull. His dam was a beautiful Top Gun cow that could have been a donor. 485B should add plenty of milk with great udder structure to his daughters and should be able to cover a big group of heifers with ease.

A pedigree combination that we have been after for some time now. We had purchased Main Events full brother, TJ Center Stage, in 2013 but lost him before any semen could be collected.
