but we aren’t going to change our core values to follow EPDs. We are striving to produce high performing cattle that are structurally correct, a foot and udder package that comes standard and a phenotype that is attractive to look at. All bull calves have been raised & developed here on C Diamond Ranch. As always, visitors prior to sale day are welcome and encouraged to become familiar with the sale offering. Allow a little extra time to evaluate the dams and other related bloodlines. We encourage people to also check out the heifer pen as they are the future of our herd. We offer a $100-dollar credit towards the purchase of a bull to anyone visiting the ranch between January 1 and February 25. Videos of all the bulls will be available online in early February on dvauction.com. We will post a link on Facebook and on our website as soon as they are available. The sale format will be a video auction, with the bulls being penned right outside for your convenience. You will have the option to bid in person or online via DV Auction. We have a hard-working team of reputable sale reps available to assist you if you are unable to attend. We hope to see you all on February 27! After many trials, long days and nights, a brutal calving season, a very blessed summer, a pretty good fall and winter, we’ve made it to our 13th Annual Sale. After much discussion and prayer, Chris and Julia decided to have their own sale on their ranch. We are so thankful for all he has done on the C Diamond Ranch to get the cowherd where it’s at right now. We wish them the best in their first sale February 6. Last calving season was filled with trials, frustration, long cold days and nights, but we’ve finally made it to this point. We feel for all the other breeders and cattlemen and women that struggled through the same harsh spring that we did. We hope and pray that all are able to withstand the financial loss that many people had to endure. This summer was great for growing crops and hay, for we made more hay this year than we’ve made in a long time. Our pastures, even with the abundance of rain, were very short on grass due to late spring and the drought from the previous year. We weaned our bull calves in two groups this year with calves born before April 1st in one group and the rest born after the 1st in the 2nd group. The calves are weaned out in our AI pasture north of the yard with their moms right on the other side of a 5-wire fence. We’ve gone to this style of weaning for the last six years and feel the stress of weaning is considerably less. The calves continue to grow through the weaning process instead of walking off many valuable pounds. Our feed test starts the day we wean the calves and was 127 days for the early weaned calves and 82 days for the later ones. This set of bull calves is our best set yet. Along with the phenotype, structure and style, this year our calves have more muscle pattern and heavy tops to them. We have four large new sire groups this year that have either matched expectations or blown right past them. The new Bolt EPD system has thrown a wrinkle in our herd sires EPDs,

Please register for a bidding number sale day! When registering for a bidder number, please give the office staff your current ASA number for transferring registration papers.
The average daily gain was figured on a 127day test for calves born before April 1 and an 82 day test for calves born April 1 or later. We work with PNC Feeds of Hebron, ND for balancing the ration. We target a 3.5 lb ADG average on the bulls. We feel that shows their growth potential without sacrificing their longevity They are developed in big open pens and get plenty of exercise to properly develop.
Terms and Conditions:
Terms of the sale are cash/check. Every animal will be sold to the highest bidder. Announced changes in the catalog information on sale day take precedence over printed material in this catalog. All animals listed in catalog having Homozygous Black or Homozygous Polled are done so to the best of our knowledge. We are not liable for any inaccuracies. All cattle sell under the terms and conditions of the American Simmental Association.
Delivery:
Yearling bulls will be fed for free, semen tested and delivered after April 1st. Bulls will be delivered free of charge up to 250 miles from the ranch. We will work with the buyer to arrange the most economical delivery for distances beyond 250 miles. Any cattle selling to Canada will be delivered to the nearest border crossing facility on the ND side. Buyers will be responsible for any costs associated with testing/ clearance for export.

Many of the bulls selling in the 2019 sale have EPD’s enhanced with DNA technology. We are investing in the latest technology available to provide you with the most accurate EPD’s possible. This technology improves the accuracy of EPDs on yearling bulls as if they were an older bull with progeny proof! You will see “Genomic Enhanced EPDs” at the beginning of the footnotes of the bulls that have genomic enhanced EPD profiles.
We will not be responsible for death or injury. We highly recommend that you insure your bulls. Insurance will be available sale day.

Retained Interests
When semen is collected on a CDI bull with the intent to market:
We’ve wanted a transparent scale of retained semen interest that we can refer to and is easily understood by everyone, thus resulting in no behind the scenes deal that benefits one bidder over another. Please refer to the retained semen interest levels below. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call. Level 1 - Up to $19,999 we will retain 50% semen interest Level 2 - $20,000 to $39,999 we will retain 33.3% semen interest Level 3 - $40,000 and above we will retain 25% semen interest The buyer has the option to buy out our retained semen interest at the time of the sale if so desired. In the case that the buyout of seller’s retained semen interest happens, we retain the right to collect semen on the bull at our own expense for in herd use only. The formula we use to calculate the semen interest buyout is as follows: [Purchase price = semen rights already purchased (60% of purchase price) + pasture rights (40% of purchase price)]
Volume Discounts: We will be offering the following
discounts for volume bull buyers: 3 head – 3% off total purchases 4 head – 4% off total purchases 5 head or more – 5% off total purchases
We would like to visit with you before the sale if considering purchasing and marketing semen on a CDI bull. In a perfect world we would gladly share in all the collection expenses and promotion, then split revenue accordingly, but given the bookkeeping nightmare that can arise when trying to keep track of multiple different bulls per year, we are forced to narrow down our list of bulls each year that we move forward with, collecting and promoting. That being said we realize that you may see something that we are missing, or believe that a herd bull may have potential to sell semen. In the instance that you want to collect semen to market, we give you the go ahead to do so, we only ask that once you’ve recouped your expenses with semen revenue that we can then discuss a portion of the semen revenue be returned to the original breeder. We understand the complexities that can arise and only ask that you keep an open dialogue with us in your plans moving forward. We reserve the right to “opt out” of the expense sharing, but also understand that you will receive the revenue from semen sales till your expenses are covered.
Docility Scores (Doc): Please note the docility score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle: 1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

Fierce was our pick out of the 101Y X Ambition flush from LCDR last year. He was one of the highest IMF scoring calves in his class. I feel he reminds me more of Xpectation (his grandsire) than Ambition and I’m hoping he will breed somewhere in the middle. His dam is the best Trump daughter ever raised: she has perfect feet and udder. He will be the most used red bull in our herd this year. Semen available through Lazy C Diamond Ranch and C Diamond.
This soggy made CDI Legendary son is being retained for his CE and BW potential. We plan on using him to breed heifers and we love the potential of his calves with his Top Grade dam on the backside. He hit a home run on his ratios with every one being over 100. We expect him to add phenotype, docility, carcass traits and will sire beautiful daughters.

This young Revival son has been a stylish, phenotypical favorite since the day he was born. All summer long he sauntered across the pasture like a mature bull. As an added bonus, his young Hometown dam is likely the best of his daughters. He is a high performing bull with 1% growth while still maintaining 5% marb and API and2% REA and TI. He crushed it on his ratios! When it came time to decide whether he went into the sale or not I just couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger and give up this stud.
