It’s been almost a year since this furniture store and design studio outgrew its original home on Cherokee Street and moved to the Shaw neighborhood. The new space gave owners Brian and Julia Leenig twice as much space for their “modern-living” collection.
Although F/A specializes in midcentury modern furniture, the displays are a mix of vintage and new pieces that combine in unique ways within the minimalist, allwhite showroom. The images on the store’s online shopping site capture the aesthetic perfectly—but if you see something you like, you should know that its Instagram is the true sales engine. It’s almost like a minibazaar, complete with friendly banter and real-time negotiations between customers.
Even if you’re not in the market for a large piece of midcentury modern furniture, the store is worth a visit for its eclectic and welcoming plants, art and accessories. The size of the sale is less important to the owners than their mission: to support customers in living creatively and intentionally.
On the design side, F/A services start with custom mood boards based on a style survey and photos of the space, then work up through two-hour, in-home redesign sessions to a click-and-buy option where customers receive a plan and a shopping list. For those who want the company to take a project from start to finish, there’s also a full-service design option.
