MORE TALK: A MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR IN CHIEF

'

Don t ALLOW your issues to keep YOU If only I could touch my miracle, my promise, my breakthrough, my healer, my savior I know I will be healed. It's amazing that this woman in Mark 5 was only identified by her issue. How embarrassing it must have been for her to be looked upon as a reject, lesser than and not good enough to be part of her community. I am sure as time went on she allowed the gossip and rumors to paint a picture of who she was told she was. Sometimes in life, we allow our issues, rumors, and circumstances to speak louder than the truth of which we know. The bible states very clearly of who and who's we are. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

YOUR PROMISE

Psalm 139:14-16 Message Version Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day. When are we as Women of MORE going to get up and press through the issues in our lives and live the life we were created to live? Don't allow your issues to keep you hostage for years, it is time for you to move through the noise of life and touch, consume and operate in your promise your MORE. This is the day that God has created, rejoice, breakthrough, be creative, be wonderful in it.

That moment of clarity followed by self affirmation is so liberating. As the root and soil of mother earth, women are innately nurturers. We plan our days, schedules, personal time, vacations around the needs of others. We are consumed with assuring that others are spiritual, emotionally and physically well while neglecting our basic needs. Our health is secondary, at times., tertiary to family and love ones. We allow ourselves to fall into a funnel of never ending pleasing of others. A funnel that is only accessible to others and their needs. We have tunneled vision that is blinded to our needs only to see the needs and wants of others. Clarity comes packaged differently for all of us. It can be a small push into the light. It can feel like a piano dropped on us. For some, it may be a rebirthing of their entire identity. It can feel like that last breath that we take before going under and from above, our Father pulls us out to breathe new, refreshed air into our bodies. But what is constant is that sense of renewed sight, clarity. That moment when you realize your purpose. That aha moment. That moment of clarity when you won’t be denied or stopped by anyone the opportunities and purpose that was given to you by your Heavenly Father. Doors that existed for years are suddenly open wide for us to enter. This newly found clarity doesn’t exclude us from loving others. It now is inclusive of selflove, self affirmation, and our dreams.

C L A R I T Y

Now that we have our clarity, it’s time for us to love up on ourselves. Repeat after me, “I am worthy“. “I am deserving of all of God’s riches.” That moment you realize selfaffirmation isn’t narcissism. That moment you realize selfaffirmation is the love of self. That moment you give yourself consent to honor who you are and consent to honor your purpose. That moment when it clicks and selfdoubt are replaced with selflove. Selfaffirmation doesn’t need the approval of others. Selfaffirmation doesn’t disavow the worth of others. Selfaffirmation will avow, validate your selfworth.

Liberation is the final step to walking into our purpose. It is that moment, that moment, we give ourselves permission to validate our needs and wants. It is at that exact moment liberation starts. That moment we are no longer plagued with guilt because we put ourselves first is the start of our liberation. That moment we dust off the cobwebs of suppressed dreams is the start of our liberation. That moment that we utter that very small but impactful word “I” is the start of our liberation. At this point, we are ready to take clarity, selfaffirmation, and liberation and roll up our sleeves to put the work in. Our vision has taken on a new focus. Under this new management, a new calling, you will see how God will manifest and transfer his abundance of riches and wealth at your feet. Queen clear your heart, mind, and spirit of selfdefeating thoughts. Know you are worthy and with purpose and drive you will conquer and prevail.

1. Listen. Sometimes we find it difficult to write the vision down because we find it challenging to hear what the vision is for our life. At times life can be a serious distraction for us. We have to put ourselves in a position to hear clearly what we are destined to be and do. Put down the things of life that so easily beset you. Get quiet and - LISTEN! 2. Write. After you received your instructions from listening immediately write down what you heard. Be clear and write every detail. With this information, we can transfer it to paper so the execution of the vision is delivered properly. Why is it important to write it down? Seeing your vision is a constant reminder of what you heard and a marker to let you know what you accomplished and how . Read what is written. 3. Run. Now you're ready to run your race - your vision that's before you. This requires muscle, courage, passion, determination and endurance. In this race, you will have obstacles but, the vision God gave you will give you the strength and courage to overcome any obstacle that stands in your way. Pursue the vision with everything in you. RUN!

Hustle & Heart She was tall, beautiful and stunning. When she walked into the room, we immediately felt her confidence, her inner strength, and her power. She wore a simple black dress, with a beautiful silver scarf that adorned her shoulders. Her makeup was flawless, and every hair was in place. Her jewelry, with hints of grey, silver and black, were pretty, but simple. This woman had a soft but strong presence that filled the room. It made the air somehow lighter, her smile made the lights somehow brighter. We would later be introduced to this powerhouse, when she shared her story, as she accepted a well deserving award at the event we were attending. Her story was one of triumph over career highs and lows, life successes and sacrifices, and the accomplishments of dreams, while recovering from divorce and disappointments. Most importantly, she focused on balancing motherhood through it all. As we listened to this woman speak, she shared her journey as hurdles that she had to overcome, but not road blocks that stopped her from moving forward. She understood that she was MORE than the challenges that were presented to her in this life. In that moment, we knew Darieth Chisolm was a WOMAN OF MORE. We were honored that she accepted our invitation to be our first Woman of MORE, to be featured on the cover of this new Magazine.

Darieth Chisolm is an Emmy Award Winning television personality, former NBC News Anchor, entrepreneur, author, speaker and business coach. She spent 25 years as a television news anchor in Pittsburgh, she launched Hustle & Heart TV, an online video podcast show, and also authored the book, HUSTLE: Why Now is the Time to Unleash your Passion featuring a strong collection of powerful and motivating stories to help readers move into inspired action and accomplish their goals and dreams.

With such an incredible body of work, we couldn’t wait for the opportunity to sit with the Leader of Hustle & Heart for our Cover interview. Our time was well spent, and we learned 3 valuable lessons from the Queen of Hustle & Heart.

3 Lessons from the Queen of Hustle and Heart 1. Unleash your Inner Tiger Sitting down for the interview, we asked her to describe Darieth the woman. She immediately answered, “I am a woman who stands in her power. Owning it, embracing and showcasing it. I am a woman who is comfortable with who she is and who she isn’t. I stand for others and help them find their voice”. As a shy young girl, she had to find her own voice. She spent years working at a television station reporting the news, but from the kitten within. One day, circumstances required her to show up for herself, and the ‘Inner Tiger’ came roaring out. She began to hustle and go after what she wanted with a fierce force. She began to claim what was out there for her. She was assertive, purposed, and unapologetic. The Lesson Here is: Silence the kitten who tends to approach things in a soft, passive manner. Identify your purpose, showcase it daily, get focused, claim what is yours, and let your ‘Inner Tiger’ roar. Tigers are intentional, reaching out and clawing for everything they want. Be like the tiger and move with a sense of urgency, hustle unapologetically and Go get it!

2. Be Ready, Even When You Are Not Ready

As a Junior in College, Darieth had landed a great job as a writer, for Detroit’s first African American owned and operated television station. Her passion is writing, and she dreamed of writing for a major publication one day, such as the National Geographic Magazine. This was her background, her area of strength and her comfort zone. One morning, a Producer of the show informed her that she was needed on camera because they didn’t have enough reporters. She was nervous and afraid because she didn’t have any experience on Camera. In that moment, she decided to challenge herself beyond her fears and hustle to make this opportunity work for her. Although her experience technically said she wasn’t ready, her confidence and belief in herself made her ready. Because she challenged herself beyond her shyness and self perceived limitations, this led to another onair opportunity and ended up as a reporter for the very station where she was just a writer. A larger opportunity came along a short time later where she earned the chance to host her own 60minute talk show called “Strictly Speaking”. Darieth said, “If I allowed myself to play small and submit to my fear or shyness, I would have missed an opportunity to have a 25year television career”. The Lesson Here is: Always be ready because you don’t know when an opportunity will present itself. Be ready even if the opportunity shows up in a package you are unfamiliar with it. Believe in yourself and go for it! It could lead to a lifechanging career.

3. Be Visible and Show Up for Yourself Darieth grew up as an insecure and shy kid. Sometimes she found it difficult to pursue the things she wanted, and often faded into the background. As she got older she realized, that if she wanted to compete in the business world, she would have to be visible and show up in a big way. She would have to push fear and insecurities to the side. Darieth challenged herself to get clear on her purpose and show up in her industry with a strong brand, message, and mission. She had to hustle every day to show consistency and create visibility. As she executed these things frequently, visibility became natural, and she began to attract new opportunities instead of having to chase them down. The Lesson Here is: Get extremely clear on your purpose, brand, mission and message. Be visible where others in your industry are exposed to you, and claim what you want like the fierceness of a Tiger. Hustle hard, consistently and live it out loud every day. Opportunities, people, and resources will be drawn to you, and show up for you, but you first have to show up for yourself. Darieth is currently a Visibility and Media Strategist who coaches people to become confident and outrageously successful, through various online media platforms. Darieth helps her Clients market and monetize their brand and influence. We enjoyed our time with Darieth. To hear the live interview, click the link below. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME? When was the last time you spent time with yourself alone? Without the distractions from work, family, friends or life - JUST YOU! I ask myself this question at least once a month. After thirteen years of marriage, I had to face the reality that I was now alone.

I had lost myself within a marriage that suffocated me and

left me abused, broken and confused.

I was no longer the woman I

used to be. I had to find her again. I had to rediscover my independence, my peace, and my voice as one who was Single.

My Counselor at the time challenged me with an activity that would assist me in regaining my confidence. She instructed me to go to a

coffee shop with just a book. Initially, this was extremely difficult, however, it was the beginning of finding what I thought I had lost. Me. After several visits alone I realized I enjoyed my company, and I was still a pretty amazing woman.

Society often makes women feel odd because they find themselves in a season of being Single or alone. But I want to share how amazing it is to be content with every season you encounter. Did you know that Single doesn't mean second best? Did you know that another word for single is exceptional, distinguished, unique, and singled out?! Yes! Single woman, you are EXCEPTIONAL! DISTINGUISHED! UNIQUE! and being SINGLED OUT for how awesome you are! You are God's Woman and a Woman of MORE! So the next time you arrive at a restaurant, and the host asks, "How many are in your party, Ma'am?" Smile, hold your head high, throw your shoulders back and say with confidence, "Party4one".

I challenge you today to adjust your perception with who and where you are and begin to enjoy the life that you're currently living. Be happy single woman. Be fulfilled single woman. Be of good cheer single woman. Be courage single woman. Be kind single woman. Be God's WOMAN!

Whether you’re a makeup wearer or not, clean, healthy skin is a must. The rotating brushes of Clarisonic’s face cleansing systems gently but effectively clean and exfoliate revealing youngerlooking, more radiant skin. I love my Mia 2. It’s gentle enough for twice daily use and I don’t have to worry about damaging my skin. I also recommend Mia Fit. It’s smaller, fits into the palm of your hand, and tucks easily into a bag. Want softer skin that’s six times cleaner than skin washed with hands alone? Try a Clarisonic cleansing device.

Majorette (Benefit cosmetics) $29 provides a youthful flush and it’s the perfect cheek color to help you transition into fall. If you’re north of 40 and starting to have problems with fine lines, this cream-to-powder blush doesn’t settle into creases like powder products do. Is it WOC (women of color) friendly? It works well for me and my milk-chocolate sisters but it’s not the best option for dark-chocolate beauties. For them, I recommend After Glow.

After Glow (Iman Cosmetics) ($16) works well for all skin tones. It’s listed as a sheer finish bronzing powder but it works well as a blusher. This tri-color product is absolutely amazing. Swirl your brush through all three colors and lightly dust your cheeks for a beautiful blush. For a sun-kissed glow, use more of the golden-shade and a heavier product application. Get the perfect pout with Jungle Queen by Lipstick Queen ($24). The papaya-coral color is simply gorgeous and complements all skin tones. It’s nourishing, hydrating, and totally kissable. (Little transfer of color and not sticky!) I love wearing it. If you’ve been sticking with neutrals and are ready to try something just a bit more avant-garde – Jungle Queen is the one for you.

When people think about "Educated Pretty Girls" I want them to know that this is more than just a tshirt brand. This movement was created to shift the culture and emphasize the importance of knowledge and character amongst our women and girls. My grandmother, who has now passed on, engraved a template of "Pretty" into my soul. She taught me that true beauty exudes from the inside out. To care about my appearance, but to focus on my character, to focus on my education for that would give me knowledge and power that no one could ever take from me. To do the right thing even when no one is watching and to "be the change you wish to see in this world" (Gandhi). I believe society as a whole has lost sight that true beauty comes from within. My daughter Jala was the catalyst for my vision. It is my love for her that keeps me pushing my brand so hard. I want her to first believe in herself, for being amazing, intelligent and beautiful young woman that she is. Secondly, I want her to be so comfortable and confident within herself that peer pressure will never consume her. I never want the world's view of "PRETTY" to stop her or any other person from achieving the destiny that God has for them.

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL By Shaundyll

I have fond memories of my Granny. When I reflect, I’m reminded of how pretty she made me feel. Granny never missed an opportunity to tell me how smart and beautiful I was. She had a large mirrored wall in her living room. I would stare at myself and smile because I saw the reflection of a smart and beautiful little girl. My reflection confirmed for me all of the positive words of affirmation my Granny would give. But life began to happen, and not in the greatest way. As life happened, I noticed that something had happened to my reflection. I no longer saw the beauty, intelligence and innocence that my Granny so fondly saw. Instead I saw a reflection of pity, hurt, emptiness, confusion and pain. I had endured the types of events and situations that cracked and shattered my reflection. At times it was hard to tell if the mirror had changed… or me. The loving confirmation from my Granny had quickly gave way to a need for validation, which eventually turned into an addiction. Each and every day I left the house LOOKING for and NEEDING my validation hit. To ensure I got my daily fix, I always made sure my mask was in FULL effect. My morning routine included extensive preparation of the mask. Everything from my make-up, nails, weave and outfit choice was intentional. It was all done in hopes that someone would give me the validation that I so desired. But thankfully self-realization shed light on the fact that no amount of external validation was going to make me feel that genuine, sense of beauty that my Granny had given me in front of her mirrored wall. I needed to find a way to validate myself, and that meant going inside… Deep inside. I had to force myself to be honest. Honest about my brokenness, my pain, and my mess. Suddenly, I noticed that my reflection began to change. It took time, but I finally put the pieces of that broken reflection back together. Today, I can look in the mirror stripped down or made up, and clearly see the beauty that my Granny saw. Regardless of the current condition of your reflection, you ALWAYS have the ability to change WHAT you see and WHO you see. Your reflection does not have to remain your reality. Be honest with yourself ABOUT yourself and watch the reflection begin to change.
