As We Forgive

AS WE FORGIVE

007117—1.15

James V. Marchionda, op Father Jim uses the words of the Lord’s Prayer as inspiration for “As We Forgive.” This simple setting has been fashioned for unison choir or cantor with assembly. The countermelody reinforces the powerful revelation that we can expect to receive God’s forgiveness in the same way we grant it to others. Works well with guitar as sole accompanying instrument.

Spirit Divine, Attend Our Prayer

Johann Crüger; Arranged by Robert W. Schaefer This masterfully crafted Pentecost anthem by Robert Schaefer was first published and recorded by WLP in 2002. Schaefer takes the hymn text “Spirit, Divine, Attend Our Prayer,” set to the tune grafenburg, and gives it a complementary adorning with the tune down ampney, associated with the Holy Spirit text “Come Down, O Love Divine.” The second tune appears as a descant in the fourth stanza, and part of the text is included in a vocal descant for a fifth stanza.

This Is the Day with alternate text O Spirit of the Living God Music by Christopher Tye Edited by Paul M. French SATB Choir, Keyboard

Christopher Tye; Edited by Paul M. French

Here is a sparkling yet sturdy Easter anthem with music by sixteenth-century British composer Christopher Tye and text by Isaac Watts. The alternate text by Henry Tweedy, “O Spirit of the Living God,” enables this piece to pull double duty on Easter and Pentecost. Paul French has edited the work for maximum flexibility, providing optional accompaniment, an introduction, and an interlude that allow the director to decide whether to augment the choir, support it, or let it perform unaccompanied.

Peace

Kathleen Demny Kathleen works diligently to craft practical music for liturgical celebration, and her efforts have certainly been successful. Her latest offering, “Peace,” is a haunting choral piece that gently reminds us that God is with us always and forever. The melodic fragment in the refrain’s treble voices repeating over the changing harmonic structure is a very effective musical device; your choir can sing the verses unison with phrases divided between men and women.

Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether Text by Percy Dearmer Music by Bob Moore SAB Choir, Descant, Keyboard

You may know this hymn text, penned in 1931 by Percy Dearmer, & w as it is commonly paired with the tune union seminary. Bob Moore re-imagines the musical expression of the text in a simple and effective presentation for SAB choir. Women present the first ? w verse in unison; men do the same for verse two. The Alleluias at the end of each verse present some vocal harmonies, with an interesting harmonic shift that is well prepared for the singers. The third verse is unison with a graceful descant. The piano writing is varied and well crafted. This anthem is one you will turn to again and again.

O Love of God, How Strong and True Bob Moore

In this choral anthem of praise, Bob Moore takes Horatius Bonar’s text and follows its logical development from the general presence of God in the world and in nature through God’s specific presence in the Incarnation and finally in the great Paschal Mystery. Moore’s use of an angular, strong melody allows him to develop musical ideas to match the text’s development even with a modest SAB choir.

Taste and See/The Angel of the Lord: Psalm 34 Joseph B. Sullivan

Joe’s expressive, satisfying setting of Psalm 34 is straightforward and noble, as you will see as you play through this score. The pleasant and melodic refrain is complemented by the chant-style verses that are easily sung by a cantor or choir, either accompanied or a cappella. For use as the responsorial psalm or as a Communion processional psalm, the alternate Lectionary refrain “The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him” expands the usage of this solid psalm setting.

Seasonal Suites Volume 2 Lent and Holy Week Selected and edited by Alan J. Hommerding This volume features two suites for Lent and one suite for Holy Week. The suites utilize the marvelous instrumental descants created by various composers for the One in Faith hymnal, and are designed so that they may be played by one instrument alone with keyboard or by two instruments with keyboard. Each suite features three pieces. The first and third are standard/ traditional melodies for the season, while the second one is a more contemporary selection, some of which are found both in Voices As One and One in Faith. The suites have also been arranged with some flexibility, so the instrumentalists may conclude at the end of the first piece or the second piece, when time may not permit for the entire suite to be played. For Sunday or sacramental services, or for special seasonal programs, these suites will be a great addition to your instrumental music library. 003038 Music Book.......................................................... $14.00

Communion Antiphons for the Easter Season Christoph Tietze

WLP is proud to publish this work by Christoph Tietze, whose Introit Hymns collection has enabled many parishes to sing the Church’s antiphons and psalms from the Graduale Simplex in the vernacular. Here Christoph turns his attention to the Communion rite. To facilitate assembly participation and underscore the unity of the season, the music is identical for each Sunday. The texts are the Communion antiphons and psalms from the Graduale Romanum. The refrain and verse offer different key relationships, providing refreshing contrast yet moving effortlessly from one tonal center to the other. 000700 Songbook............................................................. $12.95 000702 Cantor/Choir Edition Octavo................................ $5.00

Stopping Along the Way: Stations of the Cross John Shea

This contemporary Stations of the Cross, written by theologian and storyteller John Shea, is designed for a leader and congregation. While in keeping with the traditional devotion, it also contains aspects of liturgical drama. At each station a character presents a monologue that connects the passion of Christ with contemporary forms of suffering, followed by a brief reflection by the leader, a period of silence, and a short sung response—a total time of forty-five to fifty-five minutes for the whole service. Through their participation in the fourteen stations, the leader, speakers, and assembly enter more deeply into the passion of Christ and into the mystery of their own suffering. The 8 ½ x 11 leader/accompaniment edition is three-hole punched to fit in a ceremonial binder, and contains the complete text of the service as well as accompaniment versions of Steve Warner’s “Crux Fidelis” and Kevin Keil and Alan Hommerding’s “Stations of the Cross.” The coordinating people’s edition contains the reflection responses and assembly versions of these same pieces. 008241 Loose Leaf Edition.............................................................................$7.95 008240 Pew Edition........................................................................................$2.95 50 or more......................................................................................................$1.95 each 006630 Series 1 Binder Purple with lavender accent and silver foil................$21.95 006678 Series 2 Binder Purple with gold cross embossed on front................$19.95 006804 Series 3 Binder Purple with gold wheat embossed on front...............$19.95

With Hearts and Voices

Edited by Alan J Hommerding and Jerry Galipeau America is aging. Some of our most faithful and dedicated members are not with us every Sunday. They may have moved to a retirement community or may be confined at home, and yet they are still vital members of our parish communities. With Hearts and Voices helps to bridge this gap in our Sunday assemblies with the songs and prayers our senior parishioners hold dear. This prayer book is a welcome resource for retirement and nursing homes, hospitals, and especially ministers of care. Jerry Galipeau has compiled and composed prayers of the heart, home, and church to enable our ministers of the sick to do more than distribute the Holy Eucharist. They can bring our worship to the homebound and provide a resource one can return to again and again. The more than 80 classic Catholic hymns and songs are those your people have taken into their hearts and made their own. Each is supported by a supplemental recording, recorded in ageappropriate keys and enhanced by a four-part choir. 006700 People’s Book.......................................................................$3.95 50 or more........................................................................................$2.95 006702 With Hearts and Voices Spoken Prayers CD.........................$17.00 006701 With Hearts and Voices Music 4-CD set..............................$49.95
