Martin for WALIKI

La Paz, Bolivia

WALIKI – A social enterprise in Bolivia Waliki was founded in La Paz, Bolivia in 1992 by a group of crafters, designers and social workers. The dream of Waliki’s founders was to create a social enterprise, an artisans’ cooperative that would provide stable employment at above market wages to its workers by utilizing their knitting skills to produce high quality alpaca sweaters & accessories in patterns based on colorful, ancient Andean designs. Today Waliki employs more than 200 artisans working in 14 workshops and ships its goods to many countries around the world. Each year of its existence the company has grown and its founders’ dream of creating an innovative, efficient and enduring business becomes more real. Each year it becomes clearer to all of its stakeholders that the Waliki model of social enterprise can be successful, does make a difference and is here to stay.
