think that artists who have only had one hit song can be unfairly ridiculed. After all there are millions of writers who would be more than happy to be remembered for just one hit.

So with this in mind here are ten more of my favourites. My first choice is, It’s Raining Men ‘82 by The Weather Girls. On its release I didn't think much of this song, then many years later I heard it at a wedding. A group of guys had worked out a great routine, where in unison they all jumped into the air then landed on the dance floor like raindrops. In 1999 Lou Bega wrote a very catchy dance song, Mambo No.5. He also crammed in as many female names as possible which no doubt helped to sell the record. 'It's been seven hours and

fifteen days' sang Sinead O'Connor in the song Nothing Compares 2 U in 1990. A sad and moving song written by Prince. Belgian, Plastic Bertrand had a smash hit in several European countries in 1977 with pop/punk Ca Plane Pour Moi. It still sounds great and is used by Kellogs on T.V.

a crazy video so what's not to love. In the summer of 1973 I still remember Seasons in the Sun being played endlessly. Sadly (Ed: Not 'Thankfully'?), Terry Jacks could never replicate his big hit. Another great summer song was Wake up Boo (1995) by the Boo Radleys; they sang

Radicals I thought it was the Rolling Stones. The song is still played on the radio and for me is a perfect example of easy listening rock. Joan Osborne is an American singer/songwriter who penned the superb One of Us (1995). The song talks about faith and wonders what it would be like if God travelled on the bus. My final choice is the folky love song Hey There Delilah (2006) by the Plain White Ts. I always liked the line 'Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar'. Unfortunately with only one big hit that has probably never happened. The last two songs have been picked by our editor Mark. In 1984 Alphaville from Germany had a top ten hit with synthpop tune Big in Japan. Warren Zevon had a hit with Werewolves of London (1978). With a very catchy melody, Warren opened with the line,.

'I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand'

I always like a good quirky song which explains my next choice, Safety Dance (1982) by Men Without Hats. It also had

'Wake up it's a beautiful morning’. I have to admit the first time I heard ‘You only get what you give’ (1998) by the New

Local History Biddulph Grange Biddulph Grange is a fifteen acre site now owned by the National Trust. The site was developed by James Bateman (1811-1897). He was an accomplished horticulturist and also a landowner, he had inherited money from his father, who had become rich from coal and steel businesses.

Capability Brown's landscaped gardens and the high Victorian style. The gardens are divided into themed areas, featuring Egyptian and Chinese gardens amongst others. From 1923 the large house on the site served as a children's hospital. During the summertime, patients were wheeled out to a large lawn enabling them to see the grange in the distance.

He moved to Biddulph around 1840 and created the gardens with the aid of his friend and painter of seascapes Edward William Cooke. Bateman and his wife Maria had a passion for plants and the money to indulge their interests. The gardens were designed by James and Maria. Specimens were brought back by the great Victorian plant hunters and James became an expert on orchids. He also loved rhododendrons and azaleas. Maria and James' gardens are a rare surviving example of the interim period between

The hospital finally closed in 1991; the gardens were bought by the National Trust and opened to visitors in May of the same year.

Corfu Holiday I think with any group of friends there is always someone who is more dominant. This was certainly the case with my good mate Richard. We were all in our early 20s and Rich had worked in our local Job Centre for many years and the running joke was that he had been on the dole since leaving school.

When we met at the weekends in our local cafe, Rich was always the one who tried to motivate us all. He was great at finding hidden country pubs and restaurants. I remember most Friday nights ending in a great curry house that Rich had found. Most of us would have the same mild to medium curry every week, but not our leader. He asked the waiter to bring him a hotter one every week, until finally he was able to sit with a big grin on his face, looking like beetroot with several empty water glasses.

Most of us had been abroad before but only to places like France on school trips. One winter Rich researched holiday destinations in Europe and decided that Corfu in August would be great as that was the hottest month! I was keen to go along having enjoyed island holidays in the UK. After a three hour flight our plane touched down in Corfu around midnight, but the night air still felt warm as

we alighted from the plane. A coach was waiting to take us to Kassiopi a small fishing resort with sandy beaches. After a few hours sleep I remember waking early as the hot morning sunlight filled my room. At breakfast Rich was full of himself, saying, 'If you think it's hot now just wait until midday'. He was right, as we made our way out to explore, it was obvious swimwear would be the order of the day. By midmorning the heat was starting to get unbearable. We had been sunbathing near to a

local who was selling his fruit and veg from a barrow. Around lunchtime he crawled underneath the barrow, pulled his hat over his face and drifted off to sleep for his daily siesta. Meanwhile we stayed in the sun and by the end of the first day we all looked like lobsters. Rich was beginning to realise that sunburn is very painful. Luckily that evening we met a group of lads from Brighton in the bar and decided to all meet up the following morning. They had all been to hot countries before and so spent the whole day looking for shady spots to sunbathe. Also most days when the sun got too hot we would have an afternoon nap like the locals. A great memory for me was swimming in the warm ocean. I had a snorkel with me and it was like being in large fish tank with fish all around me. So overall a great holiday, though we never went to anywhere as hot as Corfu with Rich again.

Recipe – Shepherd-less Pie This meal is a healthy meat free alternative to shepherds’ or cottage pie, using mostly store cupboard items. Serves 4-5 INGREDIENTS 2 tins of green lentils, drained 1 onion chopped Smash or mash made in the quantity described below 1 large tin sliced carrots, drained 1 large tin of garden peas, drained 1 dstspn cornflower 1 tsp tomato purée Beef or vegetable stock Splash of Worcestershire sauce or Soy Knob of butter Salt and pepper Grated cheese (optional) Gravy (instant if you like) optional Preheat oven to: 180°C / 160° C (Fan) / Gas 4 / 365° F METHOD Make up enough Smash or mash to cover your lentil sauce when in a casserole dish to the thickness you prefer, add a knob of butter to the potato if you like. In a large pan gently fry the onion until it is softened. Add the lentils, half the carrots and half the peas to the pan, gently stir till well mixed. In a measuring jug, spoon in the cornflower, add a splash of water and stir, then crumble in the stock cube then add hot water to make up 500ml of stock. Stir into the stock the tomato purée and a splash of Worcestershire sauce, mix well. Tip the jug of stock into the pan. (Add more liquid if you feel it is needed) Heat till the stock boils. Turn down the heat and simmer for three minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Now remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool for a minute or two. Pour the lentil mixture into a casserole dish and cover with the potato. If you want to you could sprinkle some grated cheese on top of the potato. Bake in the oven for twenty five minutes or until the potato starts to brown then remove from the oven and let the pie cool for five minutes before serving. Serve the pie with the remaining carrots and peas. For an extra healthy touch add some cabbage, broccoli or cauliflower. Some instant gravy will help those vegetables to go down. This shepherd-less pie is warm, filling and very cheap to make. Go on, give it a go.
