Decent work – Decent life for women October 7 – World Day of Decent work

On the occasion of March 8, the International Women’s Day, in 2008 ITUC initiated a Decent work campaign– Decent life for women and gender equality in the employment policies and in the contracts made in this area. This campaign is traditionally held every year.

WHY IS DECENT WORK IMPORTANT?

Everyone in the world should have work that offers good living so that every person can satisfy its basic needs. But, key factor for achieving that is employment. It is necessary the governments to assure certain things for million women, men, young people and migrants who are employed or seek job, such as: - ensuring social protection, respecting the workers’ rights. In order to achieve better growth of the living standard a further industrial development is essential. - creating million jobs for men and women. Jobs can be better only if improved along with the standards and workers’ rights. Social protection gives workers security that they need in order to feel bigger self-respect and to have bigger dignity.

WHAT IS DECENT WORK? It is a work that offers a better life. It is consisted of four elements: -EMPLOYMENT -RIGHTS -PROTECTION -DIALOGUE
