Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry that equips and empowers lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. Unlimited Hospitality

“We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

Welcoming Teams

What is Unlimited Hospitality? Here at UCUMC it is our desire to create an environment where people are welcome & feel at home whenever they walk through our doors. As the steward of our core value of Unlimited Hospitality, it is my desire to minister to people’s hearts through the ministry of Hospitality. Hospitality is defined as kindly receiving all people just as they are with honor and respect, and there are many ways we accomplish this at UCUMC. What is the part you play in maintaining this vision? It is both an honor and privilege of mine to serve Him by ministering to His people through the ministry of Hospitality. I pray we all catch this vision—not only here at UCUMC but as a lifestyle as we extend the love of Christ to those we meet. For more information contact Eli Suddarth: esuddarth@ucumc.org.

Do you enjoy having conversations with new people, or doing whatever you can to help someone feel included? Then consider joining one of our welcoming teams at UCUMC! We have great opportunities for you to serve at the Café, Welcome Center, or as a Greeter on Sunday mornings. Contact Eli Suddarth, Outreach Director, for more information: 704-369-8018 or esuddarth@ucumc.org. Anyone interested in bringing in baked goods for Sunday morning gatherings can contact Carri Killian, Evangelism Coordinator, at ckillian@ucumc.org. Intercessory Prayer Team Starting in early 2017, we want to gather a group of people who are willing to pray and intercede for our church and community. If this is something you are interested in being a part of please contact Carri Killian at ckillian@ucumc.org. Our first time together will be on January 8th - Night of Prayer & Praise; 6pm in the Café. Invitation Stations Pick up some invitation cards from these stations in the main lobby to hand out to family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. If everyone in our congregation invites 4 people a year to come to church, our weekly worship attendance could grow by 25% in four years! And always remember to be praying for the people you invite.

Wednesday Night Live has been such a success! As we start back for 2017 (Jan 18th), a way you can participate in our Unlimited Hospitality vision, is to “host” a meal on Wednesday nights. It could be your Sunday School class, small Bible study group, or your ministry group. Wednesday Night Live has generated such energy and excitement, you do not want to miss the opportunity to get involved or to invite your friends! Please contact Carri Killian, Evangelism Coordinator, at ckillian@ucumc.org to sign up to help or to ask any questions you may have.

Wednesday Night Live

Serve at Wednesday Night Live!

Wednesday Night Live Missions Wednesdays at 6:30pm On Wednesday evenings following the Wednesday Night Live meal, volunteers are encouraged to participate in a service project. Each week will highlight a ministry that UCUMC partners with or supports. This will be an opportunity to learn about the various ways to get involved through the church as well as give back to the community around us.

Missions Focused

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people everywhere – in Jerusalem, Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”–Acts 1:8

Room In The Inn (RITI) 2016-2017 www.ucumc.org/missions

Monday nights December-March www.ucumc.org/riti

Missions Committee

Throughout the winter months, UCUMC partners with Urban Ministries to support Room In The Inn (RITI.) Thanks to RITI, our church has the opportunity to open its doors to our neighbors in need that may not have a warm place to sleep at night. We provide a dinner, shower, beds, and breakfast in the morning.

Third Tuesday of each month, 6:30pm Do you have a desire to put your faith in action? Do you want to experience life transformation first hand? There is room for you on the UCUMC Missions Committee! We meet monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. Contact the people listed below for more information: Frances Surgenor: fsurgenor@aol.com Lindsay Gallegly: lgallegly@ucumc.org

If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, please contact Matt Summers: Matt_Summers19@hotmail.com. Disaster Relief Team University City is partnering with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) to train a team of volunteers that will be ready to respond to natural disasters affecting our region. We are also creating a team that will be ready to help with rebuilding efforts which often take years to complete. Construction skills are not required. We simply need enthusiastic, willing and able volunteers ready to help. If you are interested in learning more or joining a team, please contact Lindsay Gallegly (lgallegly@ucumc.org)

Called to Serve

“God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” –1 Peter 4:10

Spiritual Gifts Assessment

www.ucumc.org/serve

Have you taken our free online Spiritual Gifts Assessment? Go to www.ucumc.org/spiritualgifts to learn about the gifts God has given you and the ways you can use those gifts to impact your community. Contact Eli at esuddarth@ucumc.org to find out more!

Interested in serving your community? Aren’t sure how to get started? Here are three easy ways to get plugged in to service opportunities at University City United Methodist Church: 1. Go Online any time! www.ucumc.org and click on myUCUMC. Create an online login and from there you can see and sign up for every service opportunity here at the church! 2. At the Connecting Center on Sunday mornings! Visit the Connecting Center located just outside the Worship Center doors to speak with our Missions Coordinator about ways you can serve in the church or outside of the church in our community! 3. On Wednesday Nights at Wednesday Night Live! Every week on Wednesday Nights (starting January 18th) we meet for dinner together in the Fellowship Hall at 5:15pm. Then at 6:30pm there are weekly service projects (along with other opportunities to interact with others) that connect us regularly with organizations in Charlotte and around the world! Fill bags of food for the local food pantry, send care packages to refugee camps; every week is something new and exciting. An Update from REACH! In October 2016 we held our second annual REACH Conference and it was a tremendous time of engagement with missionaries from all parts of our world. We learned about missions and service opportunities here in Charlotte, in different regions of the United States, and all corners of the globe. We also had the chance to pledge hours to serve that we, as individuals in the church, would fulfill in 2017. By the end of REACH, as a church we have pledged 16,500 hours to serve others, and we want to make sure you have every opportunity to fulfill your pledges. Contact Outreach Director Eli Suddarth at esuddarth@ucumc.org or Missions Coordinator Lindsay Gallegly, lgallegly@ucumc.org, to learn about opportunities to fulfill your REACH pledged service hours!
