ճախրանքին կը միանար Ազատ Ղարիպեանի արուեստագէտի ոգին ու «Կռունկ» պարախումբը վերածնող՝

Նելլի Կարապետեանի աներիզ

պատկերացումով լոյս կը տարածուէր

սրահէն ներս գտնուող հանդիսատեսին

սրտին մէջ։

«Արցախ» պարարուեստի ուսումնարանի Ա. եւ Բ. խումբի փոքրերուն ներկայացուցած պարերու ընթացքին, փոքրիկները ամենայն պատասխանատուութեամբ, ինքնավստահ քայլերով, համահունչ շարժումներով, ժպտերես դէմքով ու ջերմիկ արտայայտութեամբ բեմը վերածեցին հեքիաթային աշխարհի, ուր պահի կախարդանքը տարածուեցաւ

դէպի բեմ մուտքն ու ելքն ալ համաչափ քայլերով եւ մասնագէտ պարողներու

հանգամանքով կը ներկայացնէին։

Հիասքանչ պարերուն ու նոր բեմադրութիւններուն մէջ

բծախնդրութիւնն ու մասնագէտի

դրոշմը ակնյայտ էր։ «Արցախ»

պարարուեստի ուսումնարանի

պատանիներուն շարժուձեւերուն

ներդաշնակութիւնը, դէմքի

արտայայտութիւնը եւ միասնական

ոգիով պարելու կամքը ներկաներուն

աչքերուն առաջ գծեց հայկական

լեռնաշխարհի խաղաղ բնութեան

օրրանին գիրկը մեծցած

պատանիներուն առօրեան, ու Հայաստանի բնութեան համն ու

հոտը զգացող հանդիսատեսը մտքով

ճամբորդեց դէպի հայրենիք։

«Արցախ» պարարուեստի

ուսումնարանի մեծերը

բեմ բարձրացան ամենայն

պատասխանատուութեամբ։ Անոնք՝

իւրաքանչիւր մանրամասնութեան

վրայ բժախնդրութեամբ աշխատած,

ներկայացուած պարերուն պատմած

նիւթերը ամբողջովին հասկցած

եւ իմաստը իւրացուցած, մէկ

ամբողջութիւն դարձած, պարեցին եւ

այդպիսով այդ պահի զգացումը լիովին

փոխանցեցին հանդիսատեսներուն,

որոնք անյագ փափաքով կը դիտէին,

կը հիանային, ծափողջիւններով կը

գնահատէին ու աւելին կը պահանջէին։

«Էրեբունի» պարախումբին եւ

մենակատարներուն ներկայացուցած

պարերու ցանկը շատ ճոխ էր, իսկ պարերու մասնագիտական

եւ իւրայատուկ բեմադրութիւնը, մենակատարներուն

Անոնք շնորհակալական խօսք

յղեցին ժրաջան յանձնախումբին, հովանաւորներուն, Հայ կեդրոնի Ամառնային փառատօնի տարեկան

գրքոյկին տպագրութեանը իրենց ծանուցումներով եւ գովազդներով օժանդակող անհատներուն եւ հաստատութիւններուն, ինչպէս նաեւ՝ իրենց ներկայութեամբ ձեռնարկը քաջալերող բոլոր հայրենակիցներուն։ Հանդիսավարները բարի գալուստ մաղթեցին ներկաներուն եւ ըսին. «Այս տարուան փառատօնը, ինչպէս անցեալ տարուանը, իր մէջ կը ներառէ նաեւ ազգային բնոյթ: Մեր Հայրենիքը կ’ապրի օրհասական

օրեր: Այս փառատօնի ընթացքին, տարբեր նախաձեռնութիւններով

պիտի զօրակցինք Արցախի մէջ գոյատեւող մեր հայրենակիցներուն:

Երեք օրերու ընթացքին այցելեցէք

վրայ։ Իսկ կիրակի իրիկուն, բոլորս միասնաբար զօրակցական

տեսահոլովակ պիտի նկարահանենք

ACMAO celebrates 35 years of service

On Sunday, June 4, 2023, the Armenian Canadian Medical Association of Ontario (ACMAO) celebrated a significant milestone: 35 years of remarkable achievements in Ontario, Armenia, and Artsakh. The ACMAO executive board members and the organizing committee, led by Dr. Lena Boudakian, dedicated months of tireless effort to make the 35th anniversary celebration a reality. The celebratory event took the form of a gala fundraiser held at the elegant Parkview Manor Banquet Hall in Toronto. This marked the first gala since November 2018, as well as the first one following the Covid-19 pandemic and the 44-day War of Artsakh.

The Parkview Manor Banquet Hall was adorned with exquisite decorations by Suzart, complemented by the diligent work of the organizers. The silent auction table was meticulously set up, ready for the fundraiser. The gala's theme revolved around celebrating past and current achievements and projects of ACMAO, honouring our members for their professional achievements, and rebuilding our organization with the new generation of professionals, carrying forward the work we have dedicated ourselves to for 35 years.

The 125 attendees had the opportunity to socialize during the reception while also experiencing the impact of ACMAO through a slideshow, showcasing 35 years of devotion and dedication from past and present members.

The evening's program commenced with welcoming remarks from the M.C. of the gala, Dr. Cyril Tahtadjian, vice president of ACMAO, and Dr. Tina Karapetyan, president of ACMAO. They highlighted the progressive growth of ACMAO as a mature organization, emphasizing its commitment to providing sustainable support not only to Armenians in Armenia but also in Artsakh, as well as locally through educational, humanitarian projects, and academic endeavors.

Renowned musicians and active members of the Armenian Community of Toronto, Nishan Papazian and Kevork Manougian, captivated the audience with their performances on the violin and saxophone, presenting a delightful fusion of Armenian and international melodies.

A compelling documentary video chronicling the history of ACMAO from its inception 35 years ago, on Dec. 8, 1988, the day after the Armenia earthquake, until May 2023, was presented. Dr. Ani Hasserjian is credited with the narration, script, and production, with direction by Mr. Onik Nazarians.

The fundraising gala aimed to support four distinct projects, which were presented in the following order:

1. Aid for Artsakh, in collaboration with all medical associations under the umbrella of the Armenian Medical International Committee (AMIC), as presented by Dr. Christian Ternamian. Since December 12th, 2022, Azerbaijan has imposed a blockade on the Republic of Artsakh, prompting AMIC to launch a call to action for fundraising to address the urgent needs of Artsakh and replenish medical supplies in its hospitals on the border with Armenia. ACMAO stands in solidarity with AMIC and other member organizations, dedicated to supporting Artsakh and our motherland, Armenia.

2. Assistance to the surgical lab of the "Gyumri Orthopedic School," presented by Tina Karapetyan. Founded by a group of doctors who performed life-saving surgeries on wounded soldiers during the 44-day war at the Republican Hospital of Stepanakert, Artsakh, the school aims to train Armenian surgeons and nurses in the management of war injuries. Its objectives include improving staff confidence, speed during emergency and scheduled surgeries, and reducing the number of intraoperative complications and adverse events.

3. Assistance to "Alzheimer's Care Armenia" (ACA), presented by Dr. Herag Hamboyan. ACA's mission is to raise awareness and provide solutions for the care and treatment of people with dementia in Armenia. Through sustainable programs and services, ACA supports individuals with memory loss and their families. An example of their work is the Brain Health Armenia Project, a multidisciplinary country-wide mobile memory screening and training program.

4. Assistance to "Therapists for Armenia" (TFA) and the "Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Fellowship" (IRF), presented by Armineh Babikian. TFA, a non-profit

organization, is dedicated to advancing the fields of occupational, physical, and speech therapy and promoting accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities within Armenian communities. Their latest project, in collaboration with the National Institute of Health, Armenian American Sports Medicine Coalition, Polaris EduCorp, and Health Network of Armenia, is the IRF.

The talented Mine' Satourian mesmerized the audience with her beautiful renditions of Armenian and international songs, showcasing her captivating voice.

In recognition of their professional achievements in Ontario and their support of ACMAO projects, several healthcare professionals were honored with appreciation awards, which were presented by Dr. Ani Hasserjian. The honorees included Dr. Rupert Abdalian, Dr. Raffy Chouljian, Dr. Artur Gevorgyan, Dr. Gayane Hovhannissyan, Dr. Houri Simonian, and Dr. Never (Yousoufian) Perez. Dr. Cyril Tahtadjian surprised Dr. Ani Hasserjian with an additional award for he years of service.

Mr. Aris Babikian, Member of Provincial Parliament, dedicated member of the Armenian Community of Toronto, and a longtime friend of ACMAO since its inception, commended the collective efforts of past and present members and conveyed the congratulatory message of the Right Honorable Doug Ford, premier of Ontario.

The evening continued with joyful dancing to Armenian and international music, accompanied by DJ Chris.

The ACMAO executive board members extend their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the gala. We are sincerely grateful to all the donors, friends, volunteers, members, and participants for their invaluable support.

Thank you all for making a meaningful difference in Armenia and Artsakh.

բարձրորակ բեմականացումը, տարազներու գոյներուն եւ ձեւերուն իւրայատկութիւնը եւ այս բոլորին բարձր ճաշակով մատուցելու եղանակը՝

թէ որքան արիւն թափուած է այդ հողին վրայ։ Անոնց դէմքի խրոխտ արտայայտութիւնը, աչքերուն խոր ու թախծոտ նայուածքը, հարազատ կորսնցնողի ցաւն ու պատերազմի սարսափը կը կարդացուէր իւրաքանչիւր պարողի շարժումէն։ Բարձր գնահատականի արժանի՝ «Լոյսի Ճանապարհ» ելոյթի յուզախառն, յուսադրիչ եւ գօտեպնդող հոգեպարար պահերը ըմբոշխնած պահուս մտաբերեցի պարուսոյց, բեմադրիչ եւ գեղարուեստական ղեկավար Նելլի Կարպետեանի, ուսանողներուն ուղղած այս խօսքը․ «Իւրաքանչիւրս անվերջ ձգտենք կատարելութեան եւ լինենք միասին ու մեր եսը չտանենք առաջ, այլ՝ մենքը»… ու ահաւասի՛կ այսօր, պարախումբին անդամները այդ խօսքը գործադրելով՝ միակամ, մէկը միւսին շունչը զգալով կը պարէին, մէկ եւ ամբողջական Հայաստան ներկայացնելով՝ լուսաւոր օրեր կը խոստանային հանդիսատեսին

In defiance of oppression: Our goddaughter’s wedding in Artsakh and why we can’t attend

My wife Araz and I were supposed to be in Stepanakert, Artsakh, today to celebrate our goddaughter Sirun and the love of her life, David, on their special day. We eagerly looked forward to witnessing their union and sharing in their joy. Instead, we find ourselves separated by an unjust and inhumane blockade that has left Artsakh and its native Armenian population isolated for more than 200 agonizing days.

Sirun, an intelligent, charismatic, and beautiful soul, entered our lives a couple of years ago during my work at the Tufenkian Foundation in Artsakh. She became the heart and soul of our Stepanakert office, and we formed a deep bond with her and the entire Artsakh-based staff. Together, we embarked on a journey that transcended professional relationships and blossomed into a lasting friendship.

Following the 44-Day War, my trips to Artsakh and working with my dear colleagues deepened my understanding of its people and their struggle. Araz, who joined me on some of these visits, also formed a close connection with Sirun and the rest of the staff. Last year, we were moved when Sirun, unbaptized in the Armenian Apostolic Church, asked us to be her godparents. It was an honor we cherished, symbolizing the new path she was embarking upon.

On May 9, 2022, we gathered in Stepanakert’s Surb Hakob Church on the 30th anniversary of Shushi Liberation Day to baptize Sirun. As we stood together in that sacred space, we experienced bittersweet emotions. Shushi, once a symbol of Armenian liberation, had fallen under Azerbaijani occupation just two years prior. Despite the pain of the past, we dared to hope for a brighter future—a new beginning for our friend and for Artsakh.

Little did we know that only a few months later, the path forward would be obstructed by a cruel blockade orchestrated by Azerbaijan under the guise of “environmental protests.” In Dec. 2022, the Lachin corridor, the lifeline connecting Artsakh to the outside world, was blocked by so-called “eco-activists.” Since then, the blockade has tightened its grip, with Azerbaijan seizing strategic ground, installing military outposts, and blocking essential routes. International outcry has condemned these actions as violations of the ceasefire agreement signed on Nov. 9, 2020. However, the world’s response remains feeble, and Azerbaijan acts with impunity.

The consequences are dire. Artsakh, already scarred by the horrors of war, now faces shortages of energy, food, medicine, and other vital resources. Newborns, young children, and their mothers are left vulnerable without access to formula milk, baby food, and diapers. While the International Committee of the Red Cross has offered some humanitarian aid, it falls short of meeting the region’s needs. Tragically, the blockade persists alongside Azerbaijan’s ongoing ceasefire regime violations. Just days ago, four Armenian soldiers were killed by Azerbaijani forces, further fueling the anguish and despair of the people of Artsakh. In this darkest hour, the struggle for their free and independent existence has never been more compelling.

Araz and I are not alone in being unable to attend the wedding due to Azerbaijan’s cruelty; Sirun’s own father, brother, and sister have also been unjustly denied the opportunity to be by their daughter and sister’s side on this momentous occasion. The blockade that separates families, denying them the right to celebrate together, is a painful reminder of the callousness with which lives are disregarded, bonds are

shattered, and families are robbed of the joy and togetherness they rightfully deserve.

In the wake of the 2020 Artsakh War, my faith in international law and its mechanisms has been shattered. The very systems meant to protect human rights and ensure justice have proved themselves conflicting and tragically selective in their application. Governments, driven by their own interests, flagrantly disregard the principles enshrined in charters, trampling upon the rights and lives of innocent people. Witnessing the ongoing blockade of Artsakh and the suffering inflicted upon its native Armenian population from afar, it becomes painfully evident that international law is insufficient in providing the protection and justice it promises. The blockade, a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement, stands as a stark reminder of the impunity enjoyed by those who disregard the fundamental principles of humanity.

In the face of this disillusionment, my hope has shifted towards the resilience and determination of the people of Artsakh themselves, embodied by individuals like Sirun. It is in the strength of their spirit, the unity of their voices, and their commitment to justice and freedom that I find solace.

Through it all, the resilient spirit of the people of Artsakh shines brightly, and their determination to endure and overcome hardships should inspire us all.

From afar, we bear witness to the strength and resilience of Sirun and the people of Artsakh, who are determined to celebrate love and life in the face of adversity and the hardships they endure; hardships that often go unnoticed in our own lives as we plan joyous occasions like weddings. In a blockaded country, even the simple act of sourcing food for a wedding becomes a daunting challenge, further compounded by a recent ban on large gatherings due to shortages.

And while we lament the present, we dare to envision a future where weddings, baptisms, and celebrations in Artsakh are not acts of defiance but rather ordinary, everyday events. We envision a world where not only is the blockade lifted but one in which justice prevails and the people of Artsakh can breathe freely, unencumbered by the weight of oppression.

Sirun, as you embark on this new chapter of your life today, know that we stand with you and your beloved David. We celebrate your love and the resilience of your spirit. Let your wedding day be a testament to the indomitable spirit of Artsakh. May it ignite a flame of hope that burns bright within us all.

Last May, when I shared a photograph of your baptism on Facebook and captioned it “Artsakh lives,” it was a declaration of hope and resilience. Today, as you embark on your sacred union, your wedding becomes a powerful testament that Artsakh does indeed live, even in the face of overwhelming hardship and adversity. ցանկացած եմ Հայ դատի հետ առնչուող պաշտօն մը զբաղեցնել։ 27 սեպտեմբեր 2020-ին, երբ սկիզբ առաւ 44-օրեայ Արցախեան պատերազմը, ԳԵՄ-ի «Սիմոն Զաւարեան» մասնաճիւղի անդամներով ամէն օր կը կազմակերպէինք տարբեր ցոյցեր, կը ներկէինք հսկայ պաստառներ, որպէսզի մեր ընկերները առաւօտեան ժամը 4-ին զանոնք կախեն քաղաքի բարձր կամուրջներէն։ Բոլորը իրենց առօրեայ գործերը եւ մտահոգութիւնները լքած՝ կեդրոնացած էին մէկ նպատակի վրայ

The Toronto market has turned a corner as we move into the summer and head towards fall. Buyers are showing caution, leading to a relatively slower market. New listings are on the rise, surpassing sales figures, indicating a shift in the balance between supply and demand. Historically, turning points often occur after bank rate hikes, and this time is no exception. However, bidding wars are still prevalent on certain properties, suggesting that the market does not entirely lack competition.

Interest rate hikes add a thrilling twist to the market! The stress test has pushed mortgage rates to nearly eight percent, leading to a slight softening in sale prices. For buyers, this means a potential opportunity to snag a home at a slightly lower price. On the other hand, sellers need to be strategic and set competitive asking prices to stand out in a market that is becoming more sensitive to pricing.

Meanwhile, the rental market is on a wild ride of its own, fueled by Canada’s immigration policies. With a surge in newcomers, rental demand is soaring, pushing rents up by a staggering 20 percent annually. As the construction industry races to catch up with the growing demand for housing, landlords can expect an exciting journey in the rental market.

An uncertain future

The cooling effect on the market results from the recent interest rate hikes, but how long this slowdown will last remains uncertain. Some experts believe it could resolve by the fall, while others anticipate a more prolonged cooling period lasting several years. Currently, homes available for sale are outnumbering the sales, indicating a potential shift in market dynamics.

In this evolving market, both buyers and sellers need to adapt their strategies. Sellers should be prepared for a different landscape where underpricing may no longer yield the same results. It’s time to adjust your approach and set competitive asking prices to capture the attention of potential buyers.

Buyers, too, must stay alert and nimble. Rising interest rates can impact affordability, so conducting a thorough financial analysis is essential before investing. The key is to be prepared to seize opportunities when they arise and

make calculated decisions that align with your long-term goals.

The rental market is currently highly competitive. Demand remains strong, making it a thrilling time for landlords seeking attractive rental yields. As the market adapts to the cooling effect, rental prices may stabilize, offering some relief to tenants.

However, investors with variable mortgages need to prepare for potential twists ahead. The next 6 to 12 months may see more homes hitting the market as some investors adjust their portfolios to accommodate rising rates. This could be a golden opportunity for savvy buyers to uncover hidden gems among the new listings.

Canada’s housing market outlook

The rebound in Canada’s housing market has moderated, with home resales increasing only marginally in June after a strong surge in April and May. Supply is gradually increasing, outpacing sales for the second consecutive month. However, the scarcity of options continues to favor sellers, and home values are still appreciating rapidly.

The Toronto real estate market is currently experiencing a cooling period, driven by rising interest rates and increased inventory. Buyers and sellers alike must adjust their strategies to navigate this changing landscape successfully. While the future remains uncertain, all stakeholders need to remain informed and make well-informed decisions based on the evolving market dynamics.
