3 Dutch schools

We are busy with a Two year Cycle Approach and 40 of our school’s Gr 7 learners as well as 6 teachers will be going on tour to the Netherlands from 20 June 2024 to 28 June 2024.The learners from South Africa and the Netherlands will focus on strategies to improve the unsustainable consumption and environmental degradation that plague modern cities.

We want to form a collaboration whereby the Dutch learners will be invited to visit our school in future to learn more about our South African culture as our two countries share historic ties and have a longstanding special relationship.

On Saturday 9 March we hosted a Dinner, Dance and Online Auction as a final fundraiser. It was a truly memorable evening from beginning to end: starting with the beautiful African beats of our Beaumont marimba band to being further entertained by the super talented Klawer band. Great food, bonding time with special friends, continuous chatter and laughter and late night dancing made this event one to remember for a long, long time.

Toneel

Student exchange program to Germany

These learners, accompanied by Mr. D. Basson and Ms. M. Wessels, will take part in a Cultural Student Exchange Program to Memmingen, Germany. It promises to be an enriching and rewarding experience!

This program forms part of the partnership that exists between the Bernard-Strigel-Gymnasium in Memmingen, a small city in Bavaria in the south of Germany, and Parel Vallei High.

(This exchange started in 2013 with the first group of PV learners that traveled to Germany with the previous headmaster, Mr. Ettienne Gouws, and one of the English teachers then, Mrs. Nicky du Bois).

The PV learners will all stay with their individual host families, who will look after them for a week. During this time, learners will attend school and take part in many cultural and sports activities.

After this visit, the Parel Vallei learners will travel to Austria and the Czech Republic for another week to visit many other places of interest. We wish them all the best as they travel abroad and meet up with their German friends whom they hosted only a few weeks ago…

May this exchange lead to a lifetime of friendships across continents!

Curro Somerset West teams depart for Sports Tournament in George

During the March holidays, the Curro Somerset West primary school and high school netball and soccer tour teams will have the opportunity to compete in the upcoming Eden Games Festival hosted by Eden Technical High School at the Outeniqua Stadium in George.

Ashes 2024

It’s an excellent opportunity for the teams to showcase their skills and represent the school on a national platform. The teams will also explore the garden route and create lasting memories. We wish them all the best for the upcoming tour and fixtures.

Somerset College’s 1st XI went head-to-head against Parel Vallei in the highly anticipated “The Ashes”. Somerset College put up a formidable total of 247-8, highlighted by outstanding displays from Callum Hughes (91), Owethu Moyi (45), and Chad Ayford (30). However, the most spectacular moments unfolded during Parel Vallei’s innings, as they struggled to counter our bowling attack. Tyler Crafford stole the show with a sensational spell, claiming 5 wickets for a mere 20 runs, with Chad Ayford providing crucial support with 3 wickets for just 5 runs. Parel Vallei were bowled out for 48, and follow-on was enforced. Despite Parel Vallei’s resilience in their second innings, the bowling attack, spearheaded by Daniel Kaplan (6 wickets for 34 runs) and Callum Hughes
