Wow! September! It pains me to type out the word, as it begins the downward slide towards the inevitable collision with fall, and that is immediately followed by the tumble into Winter, ultimately ending the riding season for most of us who can’t take off to the sunny South. The riding season here is far too short, as it is, but when you factor in the absolute crap weather that we got back in May and June that was far from being conducive to riding motorcycles and doing outdoor events, it shortens it even more! I was beginning to believe that someone had cancelled the season altogether! However, when it finally started to warm up, it went off the charts, setting record breaking heat waves that, for many, was just too damned hot as they prefer something that could be described as a happy medium! I love the sun and the heat and it doesn’t deter me from riding! The lack of a motorcycle does. Financial woes and personal issues due largely to my Wife’s medical concerns prevented me from getting the trike on the road until just recently so my little dog and I covered events and such in my truck! I hate to make excuses, but I was also unable to attend many functions as my wife’s condition and dealing with the many things that go along with it, consumed much of my time! I apologize to all who were expecting me to show up and I didn’t! One such event was Pastor Dave Neal’s Wedding as I was honoured by the invitation to attend and could only promise to do my best to get there! Days, weeks and months come and go by so quickly and sometimes pages of calendars might not even get turned for months on end! It seems that I just get into a Month and then it is gone! I met up with pastor Dave and his Bride recently at a funeral that Dave was conducting and when I saw them, I knew that the wedding was this month sometime! I asked when it was going to be. The dreaded reply was, last Saturday! Of course, I felt like a piece of crap and apologized profusely but the damage was done! That particular Saturday sped by while attending the funeral of my buddy Ralph Tota and squeezing in a visit to my wife in the hospital afterwards! I have been missing a lot of things lately and I have neglected by duties here at the Mag, relying on my excellent crew consisting mainly, of The Beast and Kris to pick up the slack! Others, like Dazzling Dez, Dingo Dave, Kim, Dawn, Tantalizing Terry have also gone out of their way to help out and I appreciate their efforts! I have also been on edge lately and blown up at a few people who approach me wanting us to run free ads for their events and to also come out and cover these events, again, for free! Their favourite line is “It is for Charity!!!!!!!” We do not do free listings! We offer discounts for charity events! If you still think you should qualify as an exception to the rule, please refer to the above line that has been done in a large Bold font! The Rider’s Mag - Page 6

The printer doesn’t print the Mag for free because we have free ads for charity! Our vehicles do not run for free! We don’t get free hydro, gas and other services because we do stuff for charity! Our costs are real and our time and resources are stretched beyond the limits and we are struggling just to survive, so when you insist that we run your ads and work for you for free to cover your event and tell us that we are insensitive and greedy if we don’t bend our rules, suffer financial loss, so that your charity can bring in more money, don’t be too shocked when I tell you to go fuck yourself! That may come off as rude and crude but I’m under enough stress as it is and really don’t care if you are offended! There is a quote from a classic book and movie, “Gone with the Wind”; “Frankly Scarlett, I don’t give a damn!” This has been a horrible year so far and shows no real signs of improvement! We are down one writer as David Rusk was killed in a motorcycle accident of which we still don’t know the cause as he was a very experienced had highly skilled rider! We can only speculate what caused him to leave the highway and crash, a deer or some other animal crossing into his path? A health

issue or mechanical failure? A lapse in attention at a crucial moment? We probably will never really know, but we lost a good friend and a very talented individual and we will miss him dearly! I attended a celebration of life for David in Peterborough and joined a large number of his friends and family as they remembered and paid respects to a wonderful and very talented man! He will be missed by many who knew him and loved him personally and by those he touched with his writing! A large number of motorcycles were assembled and organized by members of The Riders Group and rode in to pay tribute! It was appropriate that a man who was so obsessed with motorcycles to have motorcycles at his tribute!

I have lost many friends over the last eight Months of 2019 and attended far too many funerals in that time! Some, like David Rusk, were totally unexpected and hit like a kick in the gut! Others, were expected, as diseases, such as cancer, Parkinson’s and other ailments took their long-awaited toll on their victims! Either way, the reality of death has to be dealt with, and we all deal with it in our own way! For us in the motorcycle community, we come together as such, and past and present differences between individuals and Clubs are set aside so that proper respect and tribute can be paid to an individual, his family and his Club, who lived true to the Biker lifestyle and values! Being a Member of a true Motorcycle Club is something Special and is a privilege that is earned and valued! It is family that is unlike the family that you were born into or relationships that you enter into consciously! You are Brothers by choice and they are with you through thick and thin, for better or worse! In sickness and in health! Like all families, some take it more seriously than others, and some just drift away or are told they no longer fit in. There are lots of new Clubs out there and new patches are springing up all the time! Some, by those that want to look like they are part of the Biker World because they have a patch on their backs and don’t want to take the time and effort it takes to earn a patch from an existing Club! Many don’t know the true value a Club membership holds! They don’t know how seriously the membership values the life of a member! There are those clowns that put on a Son’s of Anarchy patch kit that they bought online or at a local fleamarket and strut around like they are somebody! In reality they are a fucking joke and an insult to those who don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk! It is a TV Show, you morons, not a Club! For those who recognize core values, the commitment is for life and your true Brothers will cherish you and see that you are treated with love and respect through life and afterlife! You are identified by the patch on your back that you have to have earned the right to wear and that is recognized by other members of other Clubs! They proudly wear tribute patches to friends and Brothers in their honour on their cuts and on their walls and do regular graveyard runs, visiting the graves of those who have passed on! They see to it that the funerals are done with total respect to blood family regardless of financial issues , religious beliefs and traditions. It is done out of respect and honour of their Brother! The reality is that while many have loved him and will continue to love them deeply in life, in death and forever but you only get to bury him or send him off to whatever lays beyond life here on Earth once! You do it right! Mikolaj (Polish) Marczak - January 19, 1978 – August 5,2019 I recently gathered with friends, family, other Clubs and Members of The Paradice Riders Motorcycle Club to pay respects and honour the life and times of Mikolaj (Polish) Marczak who passed on unexpectedly! The funeral was well attended and proper tributes were paid to this well-respected Member by many other Clubs, family and friends! He was loved and respected and he will be sorely missed. Ralph Tota – April 10, 1955 – August 13, 2019 My Buddy, Ralph Tota, lost his long battle with Cancer and according to his son Ralph Junior and Ralph Sr.’s Widow Dianne who shared a dream at the moment when Ralph’s time here on Earth ended wherein “The Angels came and took his soul to Heaven at 3:00 Am on August 13.” Ralph was very religious and spiritual as are Ralph Junior and Dianne! The dream gave them great comfort and eased the grief of his departure! I met up with Ralph Jr., Members of the Ghost Riders Riding Club and other friends and relations on motorcycles at The Rider’s Mag - Page 7

Ralphs Church “The Well”, in Orangeville, that he attended and played bass at regularly and headed down to the Funeral Home and Cemetery at Albion Rd. and Hwy. 27 to say goodbye to my old friend! It rained pretty much the whole way down but cleared up as we made our way inside! It was a large gathering and Ralph was given a service that I’m sure he would appreciate, with lots of prayer, hymns and music throughout! I got busy taking pictures and by the time I made it back to my truck the procession that was taking him on to the grave was immediately followed by another procession that had been waiting in the driveway in cue so I elected to leave and let others take it from there without me. I am not religious but envy others their faith, their beliefs and their commitment as it is what gets them through life itself and a stressful and very difficult period in their lives! For me, I went to see Ralph in the days before his death and witnessed a shell of the man I loved and cherished as a friend and Brother holding on to life by a thread, struggling to draw breath while maintaining his dignity and pride at having lived a good and decent life right to the end! He awakened long enough for me to actually say goodbye and he recognised me and understood! I mourn the loss of a dear friend who’s pain and suffering here on Earth is finally and mercifully over, but he will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all who knew him! He was easy to love but saying goodbye was hard! May you Rest In Peace and hope you are indeed riding on, in the Heaven you believed in, cherished and held fast to all these years! You will forever ride in my thoughts and dreams! Gone But Never Forgotten! Love & Respect!

This was not to be the last of the funerals I was to attend this summer or the end to the heartbreak of saying final goodbyes! Alexander Roy MacRae Sr. - December 19, 1930 – August 18, 2019 The man known to many in the Motorcycle Community as Senior, or to many others as Dad, Alexander Roy MacRae Sr. succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease on August 18, 2019. Senior was a great friend, mentor, workmate and travelling companion of mine for many years and together we worked as a team at many Shows and events throughout the Province on behalf of the Riders Mag! We were traditionally the “early crew” at all these Shows and events and held down the fort as we awaited the eventual arrival of his Son; Alex Jr. and his wife Janie who would serve as the “Late Shift” as they kept “different” schedules than us! We had a great time together sharing many meals that usually started with a hearty breakfast! Seniors health took a very noticeable turn for the worse but he still insisted on The Rider’s Mag - Page 8

The Rider’s Mag - Page 9

going out to all the events and delivering his regular runs which were large and substantial! Gradually he gave up pieces of his cherished territories as his health declined rapidly and the demands grew too much for him and I took over more and more deliveries! I knew that it tore at him to relinquish those deliveries as he regarded them as his own personal accomplishments! Bad Bob became more than a friend and confident but also his companion and eventually his driver in his quest to complete those monthly deliveries on time! Eventually he had to give those outings up as his condition worsened and it became a torturous experience for him! He insisted that JR take him along on his North Hamilton run until even that was too much for him and he deteriorated even more! Aside from brief visits at motorcycle events that JR took him to, I saw less and less of Senior! He made a valiant effort to reassume his spot in the booth handing out Mags as he had done for over 15 years! People were thrilled to see this grand gentleman, wearing that beat up and weathered tan leather cowboy hat, proudly handing out the Mags that he truly loved and was a huge part of so long! It was a huge strain on his frail body but his strong will, pride, determination and his love of the Biker Lifestyle and the friends that he had made over the years was strong and got him through! The end of his long and accomplished life ended on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 18, 2019, freeing him, at last from the torturous effects of an awful disease and leaving us to greave his passing while appreciating the joy that he brought to all who knew and loved him! JR asked if we could try and get some bikes out to pay a final tribute to his dad and I asked my buddy Bronson to try and get the trikes electrical issues resolved so I could make this ride! He did and I rolled out on that beautiful morning arriving at the funeral home in Burlington and parked among an everexpanding group of bikes in the parking lot! Tim Armstrong was there, coming in all the way from the Windsor area to say his goodbyes and pay respects and tribute to this fine old gentleman! He is having his own health issues these days and unable to ride all the way on a motorcycle! JR had loaned him one of his bikes for the occasion! The service was conducted by Pastor Dave Neals from the Kawartha Bikers Church and Family got up to share memories Senior that brought the congregation to laughter and tears! I was among the pall bearers who carried Senior out to the Forever Free Hearse that would lead the possession to Seniors final resting spot! Miss Kitty showed up and rode with me on the trike to the cemetery where we laid Senior to rest, then back to the Legion for some refreshments and to recap the day and share Senior stories! He was a wonderful man who lived a full life and he will be missed by many but in my heart and mind he his kind heart and soul and his vivid blue eyes will forever live on! GBNF, RIP, L&R The Rider’s Mag - Page 10

This past month has been a challenge for me trying to fit stuff into a schedule that has to be open ended as unexpected stuff keeps happening and I never really know what I’m doing until I’m doing it! Such it was with last months deliveries! I plan a trip with this, that and another thing in mind and being gone for a couple of days only to cut it short and head back to town to deal with some emergency! The next time I go out with the intension of a one day run and have it turn into a two-or three-day outing! This was the case when I delivered last months Mags as I figured on doing London and surrounding area and have someone else doing Chatham, Windsor and so on! It didn’t quite work out that way! I ended up in Sarnia arranging for Mags to be distributed out of the gas station

on Hwy 40 at Plank Road, as people up that way have been asking “Where the Hell do, we get a Riders Mag up here?” I wouldn’t have been able to get to my next few calls in time and would have had to stay over anyhow, so Rosebud and I decided to head on down through Chatham and on into Windsor where we could hook up

with my pal Cheyenne and whomever else was hanging around Jakes Joint! We rolled into town and booked into the hotel before heading into Jakes Joint, Rosebud's favourite bar where the bartenders dote over her and spoil her rotten! It is always good hanging out with Cheyenne and his buddies (He has a lot of them!) and listening to road stories. One fella (Damned if I remember his name, and the meticulous notes that I took and preserved on the napkin has obviously been misfiled by someone, messing with the clutter on my desk!) had ridden up from California. So, we had road stories from afar to digest as well as Ted’s travels which could fill a book! We made it back to Newmarket late the next day, fitting in a visit to the Hospital to see Zilla on the way back! Please have patience as we desperately try to keep on schedule! Being on the road so much and squeezing things in here there and everywhere, doesn’t allow me much time to sit down at my computer and write about all the stuff I’ve been attending! So if your Mag is a little late getting to you blame me, as I drive poor Beast crazy as it is, by giving her lots of pages and tons of pictures to process and fit into a Mag that she has no idea how big it is going to be until she gets my stuff! I should pay her better or give her a big bag of weed! ABATE 2019 This is one of my favourite events and I love coming here! My trike wasn’t on the road so I loaded my stuff in The Black Bitch and headed off in a North-westerly direction to the great property in Priceville that is The Final Frontier! This is an awesome party and it is the people that make it that way! I rolled in and found a place to park before heading over to the bar to get a nice cold 50 just to set the tone for the day! It was then, time to wander and visit a bit before the games began! There is no shortage of people to visit here! I started in Vendors Alley that was crammed with vendors selling great food Biker gear and other assorted goodies before strolling into the enormous camping area that was packed with tents, campers and travel trailers of all sizes and people having a ball! The games began and I took up my position from where I could get good shots! The afternoon flew by, as it always does when you are having fun and before I knew it, they were doing the Mud Wrestling contest which pretty much sums up the games portion of the day at which point I point myself towards home! I said it last year and I’ll say it again; Other than the use of guns, knives, brass knuckles, explosives or weapons of mass or minimal destruction, kicking, eye gouging and anything that will maim, disfigure, cripple or other horrific shit, there are no rules to Mud Wrestling! You don’t need a referee in a striped shirt looking for actual pins and nobody really wants to see an actual wrestling match! I noticed one girl who had signed up for a traditional Mud wrestling contest back out when the rules were explained and she realized it was going to be an actual wrestling match not just a good-natured tussle! Just do it the way you’ve been doing it for years! You put several girls in the mud put in a free for all, and nobody really cares who The Rider’s Mag - Page 11

wins! Split the money amongst all the girls! For me, you ruined a good thing! That is just my opinion! Ask others because I saw a lot of dissatisfied looks around the mud pit! Anyhow, it was a great day with great food, fantastic people and cold beer! See you all next year!

The Rider’s Mag - Page 12

Brotherhood Bash 2019 I have no real idea as to when I first came to The Brotherhood Bash but it has been quite a while! I remember them all to some degree, but actual dates, I have no idea! But it was at Sparrow Lake and it was a blast them and their parties are still a blast! The games were a little bit grittier back then as many of us were a lot grittier, still full of piss and vinegar and a whole lot younger! I remember one year when four of us went in on a bike draw ticket and won! We were given the choice between the bike or the money! We chose the money which turned out to be a good thing as the bike grenaded on the way back. Besides, who wants to share a Harley with four other guys? Anyhow, no matter how old we have become, how much we creak when we move and getting up from a chair (Let alone the ground!) requires moans and groans and sometimes even a helping hand! It matters not there is a much shorter the drag strip, and the pick-up-sticks and other games may be a little bit tamer, with a little less grit, blood and sweat and I never saw any tears! Bottles of liniment and pain killers may be larger now and considered a necessity but this is still one of the best parties I get the privilege and honour to attend! They still have great games like the tire pull, wiener bite, Slow race, Balloon toss, and find the potato in the pile of hay! They are constantly making changes and improvements to this property and it still has the great feel to it when you ride through the gate! Some faces have changed over the years as people come and go! Faces are older with more wrinkles, hair has either receded, turned greyer (Except for Haircut, who still looks the same and still limps even after they fixed his knees! Asked why he still limps; His reply is he doesn’t have to! He’s just gotten used to walking that way!) or been shaved off! The good thing is that they have some younger guys coming up and catching the bug and were here today competing with the old boys! It was great visiting with all my old friends and making new ones! Wolfie, showed up with his side hack and he is looking just like he always looks and if you know Wolfie you can determine if that is good or bad if that is good or bad but he it is always good to see an old friend, so from my perspective, he looked great! They had some fantastic looking trophies that are actually 3D puzzles that Murch constructed from kits that he bought! The food was also fantastic and while they didn’t have 50, I found that the Vodka went down just fine! They even had a very talented tattoo artist set up and some kind soul postponed their appointment time so that I could get some touch-ups done on some of my existing tats! Thank you whoever you are! It is interesting to see that “HRH, or Mrs. Haircut” also has the same never aging thing going on as her ‘Ol Man! I think we should investigate the water that they have in Tottenham as it must have a tributary of the fountain of youth running into their property! Or maybe there is a portrait of a really old ugly couple locked away in the attic! Sophie and Deacon must visit there regularly as well! Anyhow it was an awesome day spent with some really fantastic people! Thanks for allowing me to come out and share some great time! A request for an honourable mention was made; Casanova, your presence, your persona and your passion is sorely missed and you will be forever loved and never forgotten! L&R from all your Club Brothers

The Riders Mag/Checkered Flag Bar and Grill Show and Shine This event was the handiwork and brainchild of Dazzling Dez and came about with her visiting Bobby’s Bar and Grill and the subject holding a Biker event at that location became the topic of discussion! I was already scheduled to do my Annual Show and Shine in Loretto on the 25th of August and she asked me if I would mind doing another the week before Loretto! I said I was really tied up and had tons of stuff on my plate already! She assured me that her and Dingo Dave would look after things on that end like getting some sponsors for trophies and such! They did a fantastic job, but it still puts a lot more on the shoulders of myself and our small crew who are already really overworked and extremely underpaid! They must really love me or The Mag to put up with all the shit that I dump on them already without adding a ton, more! It was set and happening and all looked good, right up until the word came down that Bobby’s Bar was now, suddenly, out of business and the doors were closed and employees had now joined the ranks of the unemployed! Dez did some scrambling and approached Jim Stevenson at the Checkered Flag Bar and Grill just down the street in Mount Hope! He jumped at the chance and between him and his crew and Dez and Dingo Dave they pulled the event out of the fire and back on the grill to cook up what would turn out to be a good occasion and a fun time! However makeshift, they did the best the could on short notice and salvaged the event with very little chance to fuss about it and on a tight budget to boot! Kris, Brenda, Bountiful Barbie, Rosebud the Wonderdog and I, gathered together early on that rainy Sunday morning. We loaded up and piled into The Black Bitch for The Rider’s Mag - Page 14

the drive to Mount Hope. We drove out of the rain, but the rest of the way, was under threatening skies! Dez and Dingo Dave had already shown up and were hard at work preparing for what would be a busy but satisfying day! We arrived, to find huge puddles and decided where we would set up our stuff while the Beast and some of the Checkered Flag crew including Jim obsessed about the standing water and frantically worked with shovels and push brooms to at least spread some of the puddles out! The sun that was finally making an appearance to dry it all up once and for all! Kim the Roadrunner also came out and we all just soldiered on! Things gradually fell into place and all that was to do now, was try and settle down and wait for the bikes and vendors to arrive! That would take a little while, as the weather still looked iffy for a time! Some bikes started to roll in, as the stalwart, are always ready for a party, regardless of the actual weather or the weatherman’s predictions! The skies eventually, did clear and those that had been sitting at home and were on the fence as to whether to venture out, decided to join us as well! It turned into a really enjoyable event, that has huge potential to become an annual happening! I know Jim enjoyed himself and it did bring a lot of attention to the Bar and some extra revenue doesn’t hurt any business at any time! Among those bikes and vendors was a gentleman by the name of John Kostashuk who had bought the Forever Free Hearse from George Winney’s estate after George’s unexpected passing last December. George and the Forever Free Hearse was featured on an episode of The Dragon’s Den a couple of years ago and even had Kevin O’Leary in the casket! He loved the business and I’m sure he would be thrilled to see it back in action. Also joining us for a while was former Publisher of The Riders Mag; JR MacRae until he got a call about his Dad, Senior and tore off home! Before he left, he managed to talk to John concerning his services! *As a side note; George would be further honoured to know that the hearse was utilized to transport Senior to his eternal resting place as he regarded him as a dear friend! Smokies Bike Show I managed to fit in an early visit to Godzilla at the Hospital and hooked her up with some of her favourite foods and snacks just in time for lunch as her fondness for Hospital food is waning to the point that she wasn’t eating and the Hospital team suggested that I bring her in stuff more to her liking! She surprisingly preferred the Kentucky fried chicken, fries and gravy and bit more palatable that the blobs of whatever that came in on her tray! She has definite likes and dislikes and like the Caesar salad that I’d brought her from our favourite restaurant “The Buttery’ in Newmarket, it didn’t stand a chance! Her fingers rather than her fork were deemed by her to be better suited for the purpose of eating! The weather wasn’t in doubt at all today! It was straight up gorgeous and a tailor made for riding and an event such as this! The Trike was running like a dream and electrical issues that had plagued me seemed to have been resolved but the fact that the alarm would scream at me briefly each and every time I turned the ignition on was a bit disconcerting! Hey I’m happy to have it on the road I can put up with a couple or three chirps from the alarm system! Maybe it is just happy to be on the road and that is now its way of saying “Lets Boogie!” Anyhow, I wound my way happily through the highways, byways and backroads! My knees in the breeze, wind in my face, tunes blasting from the sound system, and the sun beating down on me under a clear blue sky heading to a great destination to spend some time with some great people! It doesn’t get much better than this! I rolled into the enormous well-maintained property that is the Orangeville Fairgrounds to find the party in full swing with a field absolutely crammed with every make model and colour of motorcycle imaginable! There were lots of vendors lining the one side of the property and the EMS service were on site merely as a precautionary measure.

The excellent band, “The Cooler Kings” did a fantastic job of entertaining the large gathering throughout the afternoon! Our girl Kim “The Roadrunner” was there as was Tantalizing Terry so The Riders Mag was well The Rider’s Mag - Page 16

represented and Stitch and Kumar who both carry The Riders Mag to events throughout the province were there as well! Stitch also carries a selection of our pins, patches and stickers as well! Mike Clark (Smokie himself) presented a cheque for $8000.00 to one of his favourite charities Kidsport who’s mission is to encourage kids to get into sports and being active! The food trucks and ice cream trucks and the amazing bartenders were kept busy all afternoon and had actually started running out of different food items and it all looked and smelled great! The beer was icy cold and hit the spot! I saw lots of people I knew and there were some fine-looking motorcycles assembled on that field this afternoon! It was a fantastic time and it was sad to see it all come to an end but I had to get back home and put the final things in order for our own Show and Shine in Loretto the

next day! Mike was kind enough to announce our Event while he was announcing changes that will be made to their event for next year! Plans are being made to have an even bigger event next June that will include “Biker Games” such as drag racing and other fun stuff! They are also looking at camping and much, much more! Mike and crew are also into classic and hot cars and were holding a car show the next day just to wrap up a weekend! They are in this scene for the long run and setting the bar high as to what Biker and Automotive events should be!

The Riders Mag/Loretto Inn Annual Show and Shine The choice of holding my annual Show and Shine here seemed like a good idea at the time! Two events later and taking a long hard look at things I have come to the conclusion that my instincts were correct! Last year’s event was great, this one was even better! We had more vendors, great weather and the band “Bootlegged” was absolutely tremendous! I have been getting calls and texts from people ever since, from people raving about the event and especially the band and lead singer Debbie who they referred to as outstanding, incredible and electrifying! I think

The Rider’s Mag - Page 17

they got a couple of future gigs based on their appearance at this event! I know I would and have recommended them to people who also run gigs! Moise and his crew were certainly on point the whole day, serving up some great food and plenty of cold beverages! Even my favourite insurance Broker in the whole World, the lovely Anita along with Clara were there from Wiesner Insurance in Brampton and had set up a table along with sponsoring a trophy! Brenda, Kris and TT (Tantalizing Terry) gathered at Casa Critter as I was intending on riding the Trike into the Show and Shine! Beasty (AKA Spawnomoose) and Kris headed on ahead while I readied the Trike and TT hung back with me, thankfully! Everything was going as planned, right up until I tried to start the trike! Remember I mentioned earlier how the Trike’s alarm system would chirp a couple of times as if to say we are ready to boogie? Apparently the correct interpretation of the chirps should have been, “You got trouble coming your way, better call Bronson!” as instead of the engine kicking in and hearing the magical, musical sound of her exhaust pumping out that wonderful, rhythmic beat that Harleys produce, I was greeted by the shrill screams emitted by the alarm system, and it wouldn’t stop, and the trike wouldn’t start! Good grief! Fuddle duddle! For goodness sakes and other such words and expressions of dismay and bewilderment came spontaneously pouring from my mouth, as I tried to correct it all and get the awful noise to stop, all the while pressing my thumb frantically and desperately at the centre of the key fob that is supposed to make it stop! TT covered her ears as she isn’t used to that kind of talk although I’m surprised, she could hear anything above the highpitched shrieks! Finally, it stopped! I checked a few

The Rider’s Mag - Page 18

things and tried again with the same outcome! We didn’t have time to fool around any longer so I said “If that is the kind of fucking attitude your going to have, you can fucking well, stay at home!” with that, I closed the garage door and jumped into TT’s car for the trip instead! I was to realize later in the day that in the confusion, I forgot that my camera, that was all fully charged from the overnight charging session and had all the previous event pictures downloaded from it so I would have an entirely empty memory card on which to record the days activities and happenings, was still stashed safely in the back of the trike in the garage! It was anything but a great start to the day but it failed to set the tone of the day! Everything else went beyond amazing! Dez showed up, along with former publisher JR (Who retired and left me with this mess!) and the whole crew worked together to get our booth set up, as well as helping other vendors get there stuff up and running! Kris is great at getting this stuff going and organized and getting better with each show we do! I had thought that these Show and Shines would be a disaster for me without Chantel, the lady who used to work here and was such a tremendous help at these things as she did such a great job with the registration and had such great energy! Then Dazzling Dez came on board and she is absolutely amazing! She just eats this stuff up and everything gets done with no muss, fuss or confusion! She even looked after not only getting judges but participated in the Judging! Even JR pitched in with the judging and from all accounts, was really helpful, as it all got done quickly and efficiently! There were some great looking bikes that were entered and I am glad that I didn’t have to chose the winners! Dez and Brenda really click and things just get done! Pretty soon they won’t even need an old fart like me around as I will just be in the way! Maybe that has already happened, but I enjoy still being along for the ride! I am blessed with having good people! Kim shines at doing the 50/50 tickets and Brenda the Beast is just terrific at absolutely everything! An added bonus, was the lovely and talented TT (She was everywhere! Mostly trying to make sure I drank water! I told her I have 50, so why should I drink water? We all know what fishes do in water!) and she remained cool, calm and collected the whole time and although she had to leave early, her help was very much appreciated! She added to the positive flow of energy and took a lot off my plate! The afternoon flew by and I had so many people come see me and it is all a blur! I couldn’t stop smiling as wave after wave of bikes rolled in and found a space to park! There was a constant rumble as powerful engines sang their songs, resonating throughout the property and blended with the great rock and Roll tunes coming from the band, creating a wonderful atmosphere that was so fitting to an event such as this! As it was last year, some found it easier to find a spot on the shoulder of the road but there was plenty of room to walk enjoy the food and the cold beverages and just enjoy the day! We had a lot of different Clubs come out to support the event and as always, everybody got along just fine! I commandeered my favourite Insurance Agent in the whole wide World, the lovely Anita from Wiesner Insurance to assist us in handing out the awards. Being, not only, my personal favourite Insurance Agent in the

whole wide World, but also, the best, she recognized this as a golden opportunity to hand out her card for Wiesner Insurance to the recipient of each award! She is sharp as a whip and I guess Jason Wiesner already realizes that fact! I have done a lot of these events over the last decade or so and they have all been great (Other than the one we did one Spring day, when we got high winds, rain, snow, sleet, hail and extreme cold all in one unpleasant afternoon!) but this one will certainly rank up there as perhaps, the best one yet! Thanks to all who came out to share the day! See you all next year! Thanks to all of our sponsors; L.C.D.C., The Bike Lawyer, Chop Shop Industries, Mackesy Smye Law Firm, Smokies Garage, Classy Chassis, Bro Port Colborne, Easy Acres Cycle, Paradice Riders MC, The Road Hawg Biker, Wiesner Insurance, A.M.P. Cycle, Strictly V Twin, Last Chance Garage, Kumar. The Black Diamond Riders MC, Tiny’s Cycle, Pace Law, Hawg Worx Cycle, Hip’s Cycle, Meetz Small Engines in Waterloo, Brothers of the Blade MC, Outlaws MC – Canada I will not be attending Port Dover this year in support of the OCC boycott and in protest of the discriminatory practises of the Town and organizers of the event who have allowed Law enforcement to dictate to them which legitimate businesses can sell merchandise at what is supposed to be a public event! They have maligned Clubs, individuals and legitimate businesses without due process and with malice and misinformation! They have categorized all bikers and all Club Members as Criminals even those with clear records and with absolutely no proof of criminal activity! Law Enforcement asked that the public not to paint all Police with the same brush when one of their members is charged and convicted of serious crimes but it is OK for them to do it to bikers! There will be no official representation from The Riders Mag although all of our crew are free to make up their own minds and can attend if they choose but I will not allow any coverage of the event in The Mag! This has become a shit show where heavily armed squads of police strut around town like Gestapo goons dressed in battle gear in an attempt to intimidate people who just come out to enjoy an event that has been going on quite nicely without them! How smart would it be for one of those power-hungry cops to open fire with one of those automatic weapons in a crowded situation that is Friday 13th in Port Dover! Can’t happen? I can think of incidents where deadly, unnecessary force has been used by Police against a citizen of this Country! Dudley George in Ipperwash, springs to mind! It is nothing more than hate and fear mongering, disguised as protecting the public as police try to further their own agenda and move further towards a Police State! The Police seek bigger budgets and more power over the citizens who employ them constantly! Power corrupts! Absolute power corrupts absolutely! It is about time that citizens say enough is enough, stand up and start to claw back their individual rights and freedoms from those who want to oppress them with as much zeal as they are being stripped from us! This summer has flown by. It’s been beautiful weather for almost every weekend, so dozens of charity rides had commenced. Unfortunately, tragedy has hit too close to home as of late, and I’ve taken a bit of a step back to gather myself. I’d rather not have any more as it’s been far too difficult, sometimes even to get on my ride. David Rusk is with whom I’m referring to. Many of you have heard, or are aware of his recent passing. Although David passed away while doing what he truly loved, it was far too soon for such a talented writer. I wrote with David many years ago, for another publication. I was afforded the opportunity to take on a new, large audience when I began writing for the Mag. I was only too happy to bring David along with me. He’s been epic ever since. His style of writing varied greatly from mine. He was informative, very much a story-teller. While I am more of an event writer, with a good amount of blunders that seem to follow me wherever I go. I envied his style, so when he began writing here, and the readers began looking for him at bike shows and such, I was very excited for him. I looked forward to his journey, hoping to be a small part on his up-and-coming huge writing success. Alas, it was not meant to be. The news of his passing hit me hard. Quite a few acquaintances contacted me, as they know that David and I had a history. It took quite some time for the initial shock to wear off, and that night, Mike wanted to ride. I’ll be honest, it was a real struggle. I couldn’t get my head around it, and I knew that I needed to reach his beautiful wife Lisa. I needed to let her know that the biker community loved him, and that we were there for her, with hugs, love and support.

The Rider’s Mag - Page 20

I was so incredibly proud of the Riders Group that gathered together close to 30 bikes on shortnotice, and upon arriving at David’s

Celebration of Life, brought Lisa to tears. She was so happy, and said that David would be so thrilled by the support and love. So, thank you, to all of you who rode, and wrote words of support and love for David. I will be honest, unlike most of you, I’ve missed a lot of riding this summer. With close friends passing, health reasons (among other things), I’ve focused on close friends and family. Not to say that I didn’t catch up with my girls for a ride, and for ice cream of course! But we also did some rides where there was no destination in mind. With these girls, and their hubbies, there’s antics and laughter and something that’s bound to happen on any ride that we’re involved in. I’ll be honest, I’ve really needed that close buddy feel. I did get to hang out with my son and his lady love. Do a little jetskii riding (which is pretty fun, kinda like riding a motorcycle on water!), and we had yet another large branch fall, just like last year. This summer was the 1st ever Desiree’s Ride in Peterborough. It was a far bigger success than they even expected, making enough to donate $1,500 to both Victims Services and the Women’s Shelter in Peterborough. The event began at Classy Chassis (and a HUGE shout out to Classy Chassis, Charlene and Josh and the crew for providing their venue for this event. You’re dedication and assistance to all of these various charity events does not go unnoticed. You’re incredible!) The ride itself was a good hour and a half of winding back roads, making a lunch stop at the Iron Rooster. The staff there were equipped and ready for the 50 or so riders expected, only to be slammed by close to 100! However, the staff at the Iron Rooster outdid themselves, and it was a great stop! If you’ve never been, it needs to be a plan before riding season is over. Coming back to Classy, it was time for food and prizes. Now I’m not gonna lie, there was almost a throw down between myself and Wolf regarding suitcases that were involved in the prize tables. The bugger won both!!!! I was ready to take him out in the parking lot for them, but his beautiful wife was there, and I’m certain she can take me! Lol This ride has events in many areas of Ontario, and I strongly encourage you to check out Desiree’s Ride on Facebook and make it to an event. It’s well worth it. There’s still a couple of months of riding left at least. Please, please be careful. Take every day in as if it was your last, love like your soul craves it and laugh with your friends! Enjoy life!

A Wonderful Wednesday Night Cruise

Enjoying my ride on Woodbine Ave, heading to Famous Sam’s in Gormley. l was mentally ticking off my list a few of my many blessings I am thankful for. Primarily my good health so that l am able to enjoy the passion we all share. That anticipation of the freedom from being out in the world putting out the fires of everyday life. Throwing a leg over the saddle of our bikes and roaring away even for just an hour, if that is all we can get. Second tick, is that l am fortunate to live close enough to open country roads not clogged with traffic, so l do not have to sit while my pipes do their thing and send up waves of hellish heat, made to melt a mere human. (ok, ok, from that statement l know you are aware that l am not on a water cooled machine.) My paint is called Hot White Pearl, which makes my Harley hot in more ways than one, when just sitting on a highway not moving. So again, thanks to the powers that be for the absence of too many vehicles, while l enjoyed a peaceful ride to check out a bike night forum l knew nothing about. Templars Against Child Abuse or TACA. As an adult who experienced this first hand as a teenager, the advertised meet intrigued me. The bonus was it close to home. While the name Templars was unfamiliar to me it seemed to conjure up images of mystical Dragons, Knights and secretive orders of old, similar to Masonic style fraternities which l admit to being uneducated about. But hey, motorcycles and new friends, what is not to like? As soon as l pulled into the Sam’s even before l had a chance to get my helmet off, l was met with waves of welcome and smiles big enough to brighten any mood. Not for a moment did l feel conspicuous for being a lone female riding in. Both men and women of the group came over to introduce themselves freely and this was before they knew l was from The Riders Mag. After the initial greetings, my first question was “what and who are The Templars?” I was then introduced to Swede and his wife Badger. As he was giving me the required information of who, why, when and where, l said “ oh damn Swede, as l have no pen and paper, l am never going to remember all this.” He gave me a couple of flyers with their web site, which l would then look at later so I did not get the facts screwed up. In the meantime, l just enjoyed taking pictures, a making new friends. Sam’s really is if famous for their food. Great music was coming from a prepossessing, massive boom box, that may have out weighed me. (yes l know! Not hard to do but STILL!!) I took a few minutes from this lively group to check out their web site www.templarsaca.org as l could not get this Medieval image out of my mind, which was pushed even further to the forefront of my brain after seeing a very beautiful 2017 Indian, with a breathtaking painting of Dragon wind catcher on the rear bags. Their web site is excellent and gives you answers to all the questions one would think to ask. I have to admit that l did a little The Rider’s Mag - Page 22

happy dance and shouted out koodo’s to my sub conscious though as the first image I saw was of a Knight. Yay! The order of the Templars started in 1010. Twelve Knights that swore to protect the weak, sick and innocent. After many years and a trip to the Vatican they were made a Military Order. Most people only knew that they were Warriors and Protectors. Well in my world, that says it all!!!!! Please check out the Templars Against Child Abuse web site to see what our modern-day Templars are doing. Join in to help with their cause and charity programs. Many people need our help. Ride safe, Adios for now.

Chance of Rain

Muskoka Thunder is a tough group and would not be deterred by rain in the forecast. They were so positive that they changed the outcome and it was a beautiful day on Sunday Aug.18th. This was a day many had been waiting for, the 17th Annual Warriors Ride. The proceeds from this charity going to the Gravenhurst Legion. Registration started a 9:30, coffee was served while old friends caught up on events that had happened in the past year. Kick stands were up at 10:30 doing a spectacular ride around Marvelous Muskoka. Highlighting spots such as Bala, Macteir, Roseau, Port Carling. Passing Santas Village the hungry riders returned to their starting point of the Gravenhurst Legion for a BBQ. The event featured a great gift table, with all gifts being donated for the cause. Every one received a thank you gift. It was wonderful to see a great turnout from the Veterans Canadian Military Group. Thank you for your service! Supporting this ride was Little Bella in her goggles and helmet, who brought her Mom and Dad along for the ride. I had a chance for a photo op with a pretty lady who takes care of Public Relations. Critter you may want to give Rosebud a heads up, Little Bella was trying to steal away my affection for her. There were 63 bikes plus ladies on the back to enjoy the scenery. The pictures tell the tale of a happy group of people setting out for a memorable ride after the group picture and a beautiful prayer for their safety. Muskoka Thunder Riders hope to see more of their southern brothers and sisters next year. Please check out the web site for dates and more information. www. muskokathunder.ca The Rider’s Mag - Page 23

Lately many friends have talked to me about not being able to ride as much as they would like, as they are experiencing Vertigo. This affliction can range from slight dizziness to a flat out, on the floor, fetal position, where it feels like a like a giant has your body in a big bag, swirling it around in circles while he is jumping up and down on a trampoline. I have suffered from this extreme vertigo from a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury.) Believe me it is much worse than the above description. Your body is totally out of your control. Once this happens then welcome aboard anxiety and panic attacks. Even if you or a loved one is only having slight bouts of dizziness, it can still be debilitating. Bouncing off the walls if not anyone’s idea of a good time. I can affect your riding, driving, walking and your safety while showering. Scary as that is imagine how horrible it is not being able to hold your baby or grandbabies because you never know when an unexpected attack will occur. I am happy to share a number of things that l found to help me. Yet l strongly suggest that a trip to your own doctor to ask for a referral to a neurologist. I do not have a medical background. I hope you are fortunate to find a better doctor than l did. Even with the extreme symptoms l had, all he did for me was check my pupils, have me follow a pencil with my eyes and then he checked my knee jerk reflexes. Looking back on how detached he was from my issues; l should have played a game developed on the show South Park called “Rochambeau” (thanks Rick Ward) with him, then gone first. (this me trying in a lady like fashion to say kicked him in the n--s) and showed him just how good my reflexes were. He sent me home and told me to rest. Later that week l ended up in the emergency room, and they finally found that my brain was swollen putting pressure of my brain stem, which in my case lead to the vertigo and many other horrible issuses. There was no resting as that giant still had a hold of me. I could not sleep or even lie down as the pressure was to great. I was sitting at the kitchen table, my head where a plate should go. Out of shear desperation to get comfortable, l just happened to push my chair back. This made my spine straighten from my head to tail bone. INSTANT RELIEF!!! Not long term but as long as l remained in that position. It was like a light bulb turned on in my mind. I had my friend set up my massage table with the head piece attachment (which puts you in the same position). I slept on this for months until my brain healed. The three different types of vertigo that l know of are: Positional Vertigo, Central Vertigo which puts pressure on the hind brain or Cerebellum. The other is Peripheral Vertigo which can be a result of problems with your inner ear. In my case once the Central Vertigo, healed for me, I still had problems with the Peripheral. This is due to the fact that any head injury can cause permanent damage in so many areas of your brain. Your Brain is very complex. Besides the resting on a massage table here are all the other things l have found that help, at least temporarily. Lie on your back somewhere comfortable with your back inclined with pillows (taking the stress off your spine). Put one of those plastic filled ice cubes (that you can get at the dollar store) under your head at the top of your spine where it attaches to your head. This eases the pressure on a nerve called accessory nerve. Darken the room and relax for at least 15 min, longer if you feel the need. Be careful how you sit up, turn on your side and raise slowly. Google the words “neck hammock” this is a small device that you can rest you head in which gives your neck a gentle stretch, again releases all pressure giving your blood a chance to flow properly. When watching TV, sitting at your computer, or even out for dinner with a friend sit across from them so that you are not constantly turning your neck. Look at objects straight on. If l deviate from this routine my Peripheral vertigo comes on instantly. See a good Chiropractor ( I can recommend mine if you Like) email me at 143cellphone@gmail.com Limit the amount of screen time you allow yourself as the EMF’s can also disrupt your nervous systems. Check your pillow, (even if you had had it since birth) not all pillows are meant for everyone, if you pillow is too high your neck position is wrong and will press on nerves. Try to limit the amount of times you have to put your head up to view high TV screens, or as an example, cleaning fans or star gazing. If you are a short girl with a very tall guy, get him on his knees baby. I am leaving you with a few web sites to view, so you can see if there are other things you may try. I hope in doing so you can decrease if not obliviate your vertigo. Google these three: Central Vertigo, Peripheral Vertigo and Positional Vertigo. www.ponstreatment.ca www.neckhammock.com or try searching it on Facebook. The Rider’s Mag - Page 24

The priest replies... "Get out of there, you idiot. You're on my side!" It's come out that a Navy SEAL has been moonlighting for seven years as a porn star. Even more surprising: It turns out that the guy who killed Osama bin Laden was Ron Jeremy. ************ A man walks out on his front porch one day and sees a gorilla in the tree on his front lawn. He calls animal control and an hour later a man shows up with a ladder, a pit bull, and a shotgun. The animal control employee tells the man, "I'm here to get the gorilla out of your tree. I'm going to use this ladder to climb up the tree and shake the branch the gorilla is on to knock him to the ground. The pit bull is trained to go after anything that falls from the tree and bites their balls which paralyzes the animal with so much pain I can lock him in the truck." The man says, "Okay, I see what the ladder and the pit bull are for but what about the shotgun?" The animal control employee says, "Oh, that's for you. In case I fall out of the tree instead of the gorilla, shoot the dog." ************ In the early 1930's, a farmer and his wife went to a fair. The farmer was fascinated by the airplanes and asked a pilot how much a ride would cost. "$10 for 3 minutes," replied the pilot. "That's too much," said the farmer. The pilot thought for a second and then said, "I'll make you a deal. If you and your wife ride for 3 minutes without uttering a sound, the ride will be free. But if you make a sound, you'll have to pay $10." The farmer and his wife agreed and went for a wild ride. After they landed, the pilot said to the farmer, "I want to congratulate you for not making a sound. You are a brave man." "Maybe so," said the farmer, "But I gotta tell ya, I almost screamed when my wife fell out." ************ In the bar the other day I was telling that old joke about what do you do if you see an epileptic having a fit in the bathtub. The answer, of course, being...throw in your wash. We were all having a good laugh about this when this big bastard tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I don't find that very funny. My brother was an epileptic and he died in the bath during one of his fits." I said, "I Sorry, buddy. Did he drown?" "No," he replied, "He choked on a sock." ************ Back on October 9th, a group of Pekin, Illinois bikers were riding west on I-74 when they saw a girl about to jump off the Murray Baker Bridge. So they stopped. George, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks through a group of gawkers, past the State Trooper who was trying to talk her down off the railing, and says, "Hey Baby... whatcha doin' up there on that railing?" She says tearfully, "I'm going to commit suicide!" While he didn't want to appear "sensitive," George also didn't want to miss this "be-a-legend" opportunity either so he asked ..."Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe...why don't you give ole George here your best last kiss?" So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing and did just that ... and it was a long, deep, The Rider’s Mag - Page 26

lingering kiss followed immediately by another even better one. After they breathlessly finished, George gets a big thumbs-up approval from his biker-buddies, the onlookers, and even the State Trooper, and then says, "Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had, Honey! That's a real talent you're wasting, Sugar Shorts. You could be famous if you rode with me. Why are you committing suicide?" "My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl." It's still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed. ****************************************** Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar. ************ When I die, I want to die like my grandfather--who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror--like all the passengers in his bus. ************ Two buddies were getting dressed in the locker room after a workout, when the first man saw something that give him a bit of a shock. "How long have you been wearing that bra?" the man asked his friend. The friend replies, "Ever since my wife found it in the glove compartment." ************ Three elderly doctors have been friends for many years, and one afternoon at the club they started talking about their final arrangements. The first, a dentist, says, "When I die, I think I'd like my tombstone to be shaped like a tooth made of white marble." "That's a very clever idea," says the cardiologist, "I'd love my tombstone to be shaped like a heart in red marble." The urologist is silent for a bit, then says, "I'm thinking about having my ashes scattered." ************ I hate tampon commercials because they create an unrealistic expectation of how much fun it is to be around menstruating women. ************ A guy walks into a bar in Arkansas and orders a white wine. Everybody sitting around the bar looks at him. The bartender says, "You ain't from around here, are ya? Where ya from, boy?" The guy says, "I'm from Iowa." The bartender asks, "What the heck you do in Iowa?" The guy responds, "I'm a taxidermist." The bartender asks, "A taxidermist? Now just what the heck is a taxidermist?" The guy says nervously, "I mount animals." The bartender grins and shouts out to the whole bar, "It's okay boys, he's one of us!" ************ Virginia: When was your son born? Beverly: In March. He came on the first of the month. Virginia: Is that why you call him Bill? ************ Q: What do 90 year old people smell like? A: Depends! Q: Why did the cowboy die with his boots on? A: Because he didn't want to stub his toe when he kicked the bucket! ************ Researchers are now using the video game 'Grand Theft Auto' to teach self-driving cars how to drive. That's true. In fact, two Google cars were just arrested for beating cont'd on Pg. 31 up a hooker. The Rider’s Mag - Page 27

by Dawn McLimoyle It is summer and I have been wanting a better life for a while now and I knew it was up to me, so I took the bull by the balls and got some shit done so that I could have what I knew I truly deserved. I found a new place to live that was not too far from my old one and in much better condition. It is like an oasis in the City to me, a little piece of paradise after being in chaos for so long. I was super excited except that in order to get what I wanted and needed I had to take out the trash and accept change. I didn’t know how much change was about to happen. I signed the lease for my new place and was arranging to move there so I did not have much time to get to many events, but I did make my rounds. On July 15 I got the keys to my new place and things were starting to rock and roll. I had broke free from another leach that wanted me to be his rehab center/Mother and I was ready to fly yet again. I trashed my whole life in 5 days, all for the better and I found out what the word LOYALTY really means. I got rid of the leach, then I spoke out on the News, then moved all weekend with only the help of my 2 sons and a young Newfy that decided I was worth helping. On Saturday July 20th during moving I went to take part in the clean-up at Memorial Park in Oshawa in honour of Rori Hache. About 50 people showed up and received certificates from Rori’s Divine Army for their contribution in the clean-up. There were several bags of garbage collected and a shit-ton of needles which were properly disposed of. This was the 2nd Annual Clean-up (it will be a yearly event) and it was followed by a little ceremony with cake that I couldn’t stay for because I was “on the move” literally. I was super thankful my sons helped me move this time because we have some past resentments that can re-surface and sometimes cause some tension. I finished moving the rest of my things on the Monday and was busy as hell, so Tuesday I decided to take it easy and when I finally went out that day some lady decided to make an illegal left in front of me totalling my 2018 Mazda CX3 and leaving me completely frazzled. Becoming extremely overstimulated and having PTSD is not a very good combination as I tend to act in a way that most people do not understand. Thankfully I have a friend who sent a tow-truck with a driver who kind of got me. He kept me away from all the commotion and made sure I only spoke to emergency personnel if I absolutely had to as they are a trigger to me. While I was waiting to get the rental car, I stumbled into the gym to see my boxing coach in complete shock and he got me a bottle of water and was extremely kind. I was there but not really there; however, I was surrounded with support and compassion which made it way easier to deal with. My real friends created a network around me that made me feel not alone for the very first time after a very traumatic event. My youngest son decided to make me feel like an inconvenience and didn’t care his Mom was just in an accident but for the first time I felt cared about and loved by the people around me. I had to take it easy for a bit as I was in a lot of pain. It was just bruising and soft tissue damage, but it was on top of the chronic nerve pain and other pain I already had. I do not like to sit around and do nothing, but I had to. I had to take it easy and I really didn’t like it one bit. I had been feeling like a bit of a failure as I could barely even unpack, just lay in bed and watch movies but then it was time to deliver magazines again. Back to work and back to business. I had a rental car which was the same as mine, so I welcomed the chance to get busy again. I am really enjoying my distribution route and getting to know people. Critter invited me to a couple events on the long weekend, but I was in so much pain I thought it was probably a good idea to not do crowds and went on a road-trip to do my deliveries. At Recycled Gear in Lindsay I was happy to see Morley again and we shared a few laughs. On the Sunday I went to a fundraiser at HarleyG’s for The Denise House. The Denise House is an excellent foundation that assists abused Women and their children to move on to a better life. I donated $200.00 to the event in the name of The Rider’s Mag and when I was walking around talking to everyone, I heard the guy from the Ontario Falconry Centre say, “Who is man enough for the Golden Eagle?” Well I of course said “ME!!!” and went over to hold it. That was quite the experience. I spent almost all day there which for me is a lot and I was happy with my efforts. So I knew I had a big speech in Ottawa at the One Woman Fearless Summit and I also knew that The Rolling Barrage was going to be making a stop there so I messaged Scott Casey from Military Minds and told him I was now writing for The Rider’s Mag and I would be super honoured if I could meet up with him when he was in Ontario. Scott replied that he would be honoured and that meant a lot to me. The Rider’s Mag - Page 28

In the midst of my life I was trying to find new wheels and deal with insurance, and I was getting super confused. Everyone I talked to thought they knew what I wanted and were full of opinions and when I get confused or overwhelmed, I get angry. I decided to take a trip to Peterborough and see what could be done at Angevarre Mazda because I had bought 2 brand new Mazda’s there already and Sylvia hooked me up so good, I walked away with a better deal that the 2018 and I’m getting a 2019. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel with my accident by seeing that although my car was gone, I was getting a new one. I was getting a whole new life. New home, new car, new independence and I learned that loyalty has its rewards. I left for Ottawa with magazines for Beau and hit the road to go do my speech. I have wanted to inspire people with my road to recovery for some time now and this was my first opportunity to really WOW a crowd and boy did I ever. I had them laughing and crying at the same time. I had Women come up to me after and tell me what an amazing job I did and that I pro’d it. I received feedback that was encouraging and inspiring all because I did something that was FEARLESS. I challenged myself and because of this, the most amazing thing happened the next day. I had to be at Parliament Hill for 0830hrs to see The Rolling Barrage who were coming to the War Memorial and for a ceremony and the Changing of the Guard. I parked in underground parking and when I came out, I could not get my bearings, so I approached an elderly man that had a Canadian Army Veteran (CAV) cut on as well as a beret. I asked directions and he obliged and told me he was heading there after his friend came. I recognized this man as MajorGeneral Lewis Mackenzie and I asked him if I could get a picture to which he said yes. I went on my way to where he told me and was standing around waiting when The Rider’s Mag - Page 29

I saw him again and the next thing, I knew I was in a General sandwich, getting my picture between and Lt-General Peter Devlin and him. I got to meet Todd Doherty, MP and the Deputy Mayor of Ottawa Matthew Luloff and then I got to meet Scott Casey from Military Minds. The Rolling Barrage is his baby and is a way to raise funds for PTSD and create awareness across Canada. After leaving Ottawa they went to Petawawa and the next day to Barrie. Because I was in the right place at the right time, I ended up getting piped across Parliament Hill lawn to a present arms with the Generals and the dignitaries and they made me feel so special and important. I kept thinking in my head “Not such a nobody are you now, Dawn”. After the ceremony I was running around talking to people when I saw the big Commando that I met at Rideau Rendezvous and I told him I had written about him and showed him but I need to make a correction as last month I said he was the National President yet he is the National Sgt-At-Arms and I got a picture with him so I could make a retraction and correction. I meet many Military types that get very offended if you say they are something they are not because that is Stolen Valour to us. This month had it all. I had challenge, change, and chaos and I got through it with they help of my friends. Friends I never had before and am just getting used to having. I have always been a loyal friend and it is rewarding to see the loyalty finally returned.

A man is driving his five year old to a friend's house when another car races in front and cuts them off, nearly causing an accident. "Douche-bag!" the father yells. A moment later he realizes the indiscretion, pulls over, and turns to face his son. "Your father just said a bad word," he says. "I was angry at that driver, but that was no excuse for what I said. August started out with a long weekend, and Hogs for Hospice in Leamington. Myself and Sue rode out from Hagersville, we took Hwy 3, which was an enjoyable ride down. Friday night’s concert line up was Buck Cherry opening for Vince Neil. The set up for concert’s in the ampitheatre was fantastic. All room’s were booked solid in Leamington, we had made a reservation a few weeks before the event date. If you plan on going next year I would make a reservation soon. We stayed in Kingsville, just outside of Leamington at Adam’s Golden Acres Motel. The owners were very hospitable and the room was comfy. We also had a great time chatting with other rider’s staying there. Saturday morning was breakfast and the Tour the Tip ride. It’s surprising how organized and well put together the whole event was. The town of Wheatley

closed down the main roads to accommodate all the riders on the Tour the Tip. The hospitality and reception were awesome. Hot dogs, sausage, beverages etc. and a beer tent. Thanks to the volunteers for making the ride run smoothly. Seacliffe Park back in Leamington had stunt shows, a golden helmet’s performance, axe throwing, vendor’s, food, and of course the beer tent. McDonald’s supplied free coffee and cappuccino etc all weekend, which was a god send for this caffeine junky.

Saturday night at the ampitheatre was Eric Ethridge and Chris Janson. And it was a sold out crowd. Once again well organized, and kudos to the volunteer’s. Back to our room to relax, then up and at em Sunday for the bike games. Sunday started off with a church service at the ampitheatre. Bon and Katy Menard and the entire Bob’s bike games crew did a fantastic job, and also raised $65,000 for Erie Shore’s Hospice with a bike raffle. The Road King was donated by Vulcan Gt and won by Dave Jones of Windsor (who donated $1000 to The Rider’s Mag - Page 40

the hospice) Sue, Belinda and myself decided to ride to Colchester Bar and Grill for some wings and a drink. We took a tour of the little town and saw the best sunset ever at the marina. Rode back to our room along the lake (I ran over a big fat toad)and hit a lot of bugs. Monday morning I went out with a damp rag and got rid of most of them. Off we went for our ride home, which turned into 11 hours. We did a little tour of Erieau, saw an amficar coming up the boat dock, and had some lunch. Black clouds were rolling in, and the rain came, but Sue and I decided we would go to Port Stanley anyway, as most of you know… we aren’t made of sugar. Explored the area, then headed toward’s home. The rain stopped enough that we were dry by the time we pulled in, just before dark. It was a great weekend and a must do. Also …. The police presence was minimal, and the ones that were there seemed happy, relaxed and sociable. Port Dover could learn a few things. The following weekend I decided to relax and ride as much as I could. August 11th was the Hawks Show n Shine at Touch Down Bar and Grill in Hamilton. I met Sue at the cemetery on York Street, go figure lol, and we rode in early. It turned out to be a nice day. Winners were Custom Decker, Gord and Debbie (yep that was me), Custom Chopper, Dave. Softail, Dennis and John. CVO Dany and John. Best in show Dany. Dyna, Kevin and Mino. Sportster, Curtis and Winston. Vintage, Jamie. Metric Touring, Bill. Metric sport, Katie. Had fun catching up with old friends, then a ride to Hutches for fish and chips, and of course out riding after that until dark. August 18th was our Riders Mag Show n Shine in Mount Hope. Weather was iffy early in the morning, I got there at 8am and not a drop of rain the rest of the day. Was great to see everyone. Thanks all who came out, I had a great time and I’m sure Critter will write more about it on his page. As most of you may have heard, Senior passed away during our Show n Shine event on August 18th, he was a smiling face with The Rider’s Mag for 15 years. I got to spend a lot of time with him in his final stages of a long time battle with Parkinson’s. I hope he is now at peace. Senior (Alexander Roy MacRae) you will be missed. If anyone needs to get in touch, use my personal email at debs1340hd@gmail. com we have had a few glitches in our office email addresses lately. Hope to see you on the road. Keep the shiny side up.

with Dingo Wow….the month has flown by. Where does the time go anyway??? Lucky for me, Brenda (the Beast), has given me a reprieve to get my column in “ a little later” than normal. Maybe the Checkered Flag Bar & Grill, Mount Hope, edition of The Riders Mag Show & Shine, just yesterday, had something to do with that!! So, where did I leave off last month…LCMC Show and Shine. Up next was BRO Niagara’s Annual Summer Bash. Mother Nature added her twist as there were showers in the morning. Always a favorite locally, the ride ends at the bash site, where there is plenty of food and drink to be had along with 4 bands that performed on the stage. Fireworks ended the night’s festivities. In recognition of the band’s support of the Summer Bash, BRO Niagara presented the group, “Shin-Dig” with a special plaque that featured pictures from the past years that the band has entertained at this event.

Fam Fest, Full Throttle 2019, sponsored by Falls Pharmacy, Niagara Falls, was another well attended ride in support of Pathstone Mental Help, with representation from most of the area clubs and independents . Once again, Ma Nature was up to her tricks and there was rain well into the ride which didn’t deter anyone…all part of being on a ride.

The roving reporter, Tim, sent a few pictures from the Inaugural Desiree’s Ride, Lakefield, sponsored in part by Classy Chassis, one of our advertisers in the Mag . Good show with a 100 bikes showing, and I’ll leave the rest of the details to L’il Red in her column. Leamington……Hogs for Hospice! What can I say!! The trip to Hogs for Hospice was something discussed after the January Motorcycle SuperShow. My neighbour mentioned that I usually go to the Rideau Rally lately, but would I consider H4H? Thought about it, and decided that it would be something different, and I get to avoid that trip over the top of Toronto!! Absolutely hate that section of the ride even taking the 407!! Glad I went!! I’ve never seen a ride so well organized considering there were approximately 1500 bikes involved. They said we were leaving at 10:30, and that’s when the first in line started moving. It wasn’t until 11:00 before our line got going, but we were on a entirely different street with a few hundred other bikes!! The ride was fantastic in that town people were out waving and/or holding signs that said “ Thank You”! Even people in the outlying areas were out in their yards waving at us. The town of Wheatly basically shut down the center of town to accommodate all the riders that stopped for the “halfway” break. A hour later and it was back to Leamington and even that was the most organized parking of all the bikes that took part. It was time to go explore Seacliff Park with all the vendors and the Budweiser beer garden. It’s my understanding that Budweiser donated 100% of the beer sales to the Hospice. Later in the day, we took the short walk (uphill, both ways lol ) from our motel back to the park to take in the Friday night concert featuring Vince Neil as the headliner. I have to thank Lisa from Clare’s ( H-D and Cycle and Sports) for the complimentary tickets that she gave me when she learned that I was going. Apparently, they didn’t know of anyone that was planning to head to Leamington for the Hogs for Hospice rally. Much appreciated!! And they weren’t wasted in that we gave the Saturday night tics for the country music concert to Dez and her friend Sue. We were there Friday and Saturday and left Sunday, so you’ll find the rest of that weekend in Dez’s column. If you haven’t been to this event, you should go…it’s amazing!!

This past weekend was the BRO Port Colborne Dawg Daze of Summer annual charity fundraiser and ride on Saturday, and wouldn’t you know it, the skies opened up big time with downpours and lightning and stuff. They managed to delay the start to when the sun came back out and it was dry riding after that. At the end, there was a pig roast, refreshments and the band Barracuda Pretty playing. Weather kinda killed the usual turnout, but there’s always next year. The Rider’s Mag - Page 47

Sunday…it was up early and get going since it was the Inaugural Riders Mag Show & Shine held at The Checkered Flag Bar and Grill in Mount Hope. Once again, Ma Nature unleashed her fury with heavy rain early in the morning. Skies cleared, kind of, and still threatened rain, but eventually the sun came out. Once again, the threat of rain lowered bike counts. Have to take a minute and thank Jimmy (owner) and his staff for all they did, especially getting rid of the giant puddles that were in the parking lot. Thank you Dez for coming up with this crazy idea of having a “southern” Riders Mag Show and Shine. There were a couple of bumps along the way in planning, which some meant last minute changes, but over all, it turned out good!! Continuing my Biker Friendly places to stop for food and beverage, my friend Deb and I, along with Katherine and Ross, made a lunch stop at “He’s Not Here”, along the Parkway in Fort Erie. We all ordered something different and there were no complaints whatsoever. Food was great as was the service. Refreshments were ice cold. Hint… the wings and tacos are fantastic. That’s all for now. Email me directly at dbarber11@hotmail.com if you have an event coming up. I try to keep up with all that’s going on, but might miss one or two. Ride Safe!!

September This astrology has been written in “Quin-trains” meaning there are five lines to the divination. The fifth line will reveal the answer to the other 4 lines. There are 13 twisted spokes in creation of my wheel I use instead of the common 12. Since this wheel is created this way, this allows the reader to approach the wheel in 2 ways. As each sign represents a spoke in the wheel, you can read either what your own spoke has to say or read what all the spokes have to say to share a visual to the whole picture. See how all the spokes complete your wheel. The 13th spoke is what I call the “Dath Spoke” It is the spoke that binds all other spokes together, so you can see exactly what wheel(s) you’re using for your ride. Consider it having extra rubber for extra mileage. Hydraulic Clutch Recalls 2013 to 2019 Twin Cam & Milwaukee Eight Part V In 2017, I rode a new Street Glide from Norway to Greece and back again via a different route. The dealer was nervous. He performed a hydraulic clutch service on my bike before I left on my trip, although my particular model was not included in the then, current recall. I asked why? I was well aware of the hydraulic clutches screwing up. He told me that if I was just riding locally, he would not have bothered but who knows what can develop on an 8000 kilometer (5000 mile) ride. I picked up the bike and rode away. However, the clutch was not right. The whole purpose of a hydraulic clutch is to make it easier for riders with smaller or weaker hands. The clutch required a lot of strength. I returned and politely asked if he was sure the repair had been done correctly? If I had not been a mechanic most of my life and a heavy weightlifter, I would not have been able to pull the clutch lever in more a few times before my forearm muscles rebelled. The head mechanic tried the clutch and said it was fine. It would wear in. He said that he had fit the master cylinder kit in tight and it would loosen with use. I knew this answer was soothing fluff but my friends were anxious to head out onto the road, looking for adventure and whatever came our way. On the highways, the clutch was tolerable but in heavy city traffic that we occasionally became trapped in, it was anything but. I am sure my left forearm muscles grew much bigger on this trip. However, the clutch did not screw up nor did it loosen. The fix used would not be tolerated by the riding public. There are a series of recalls on the 2013 and later Twin Cam and Milwaukee Eight Harleys that use a hydraulically actuated clutch. If having a clutch cable, which indicates a traditional Harley mechanical clutch, then none of these recalls affects you. However, there is a related issue that might since there has also been a recall in February of 2018 for possible hydraulic brake failures. Harley began recalling a quarter million 2008 to 2011 Touring, CVO Touring and V-Rod motorcycles equipped with ABS (anti-lock brakes). To date there have been at least five reported crashes due to this problem. The good news is there are no reported injuries. I mention this brake issue because I predict there will be many future clutch problems for the same reason. The main culprit is neglected DOT 4 fluid maintenance. Both hydraulic clutches and brakes use and depend on this fluid. DOT 4 fluid is safe if maintained. The owner's manual specifies a regular schedule for flushing the brake/clutch fluid, which, if neglected, can cause failure of fluid effectiveness. DOT 4 is hydroscopic. It absorbs moisture. Hydraulic clutches are simple stuff. Customizers like myself have been adapting them to their custom bikes forever. However, H-D and its ridership are enduring ongoing issues. To find out if these or any other recalls, simply enter your bike’s VIN (Vehicle Identification The Rider’s Mag - Page 50

Number) after logging onto www.harley-davidson.com/ us/en/owners/maintain-yourbike/service-recalls.html H-D can make many things complicated including a website address. You may also log onto the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) www.nhtsa. gov/recalls government site and on the opening page enter your VIN under VIN or the year and model of you Harley under VEHICLE. I have used both sites. I find the NHTSA one easier but both work well. I will generalize the dates of the recalls since they bounce around on different sites and references by a few days to a few weeks. This is because of initial reports, unofficial start dates, official dates, and extensions. I give the exact number of bikes affected but these may grow bigger as time progresses if H-D becomes aware of an expanding problem. However, they are an indicator of the severity and breadth of the potential problem. Technically, there are 5 clutch recalls but some cover more than one year. They involve moisture retention, leaking fluid, and air sucking into the closed hydraulic system. In early 2015 (NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V216000/ H-D recall 0165) Harley-Davidson began a recall of 106,966 models with hydraulic clutches where the clutch may not fully disengage. This could lead to an accident. In my opinion, an inexperienced rider may fall over since any potential clutching accident is usually at low speed. I think any knowledgeable rider will likely negotiate through this. However, rider inconvenience and potential wear to transmission gears is a reality for all. Later in 2015, H-D recalled a further 61,065 models for the same reason. The clutch master cylinder may not be able to generate enough movement to disengage the clutch. The clutch pressure plate inside the left side primary chain cases must move out at least .086” (2.18 mm) when the clutch lever is pulled in by the rider to work properly. The movement problem that H-D refers to as lift may compound if the affected bike has been parked for an extended time. This is caused by a moisture buildup inside the DOT 4 hydraulic fluid that may gum up the system. Harley-Davidson dealers will flush the clutch’s hydraulic system and rebuild the clutch master cylinder, free of charge. This is generous of the factory since the responsibility is really that of the rider neglecting specified maintenance. In mid-2016 (NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V471000/ H-D recall 0169) H-D began another recall of 27,232 models with hydraulic clutches where the clutch may not fully disengage. Again, this could also lead to an accident. And again, the master cylinder may lose its capacity to disengage the clutch. Dealers will flush the system and rebuild the master cylinder. This is the recall performed on the bike I rode across Europe.

In late-2018 (NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V734000/ H-D recall 0173) H-D recalled 177,636 hydraulic clutch 2017 to 2018 models built in the USA and Brazil. H-D’s first international plant located in the middle of the Amazon rainforest on the Amazon River in a city called Manaus since 1998. Currently, the only way in or out is by air or by the massive river. Manaus is 1400 kilometers (900 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean. I have been there. The ocean freighters dot the mighty Amazon. Why Manaus? It is a Brazilian tax free economic zone and H-D uses this location to supply bikes to the Southern Hemisphere. In this recall, there may be a hydraulic DOT 4 fluid leak. Symptoms of this are excessive clutch lever free play or the pull does not feel as strong as normal. The clutch master cylinder may lose the ability to generate enough movement to disengage the clutch because the slave cylinder (clutch actuator) leaks fluid internally, inside the right sight transmission cover. If the leak continues, there will not be enough hydraulic DOT 4 fluid to adjust to this problem. Furthermore, the leak may allow the introduction of air into the closed hydraulic system. This will really screw up the hydraulic system since air compresses while the fluid will not. Hydraulic systems depend on non-compressibility to create pressure and thus movement. H-D will replace the clutch actuator piston assembly on their dime. The affected clutch actuators are H-D part numbers 37200131 and 37200131A. The fact that there is more than one actuator indicates a corrected or improved version. Some of theses issues are a parts situation but the ongoing problem will be improper maintenance. DOT 4 brake and clutch fluid absorbs moisture. Moisture may collect and corrode the valves (holes) and passages in the HCU (master cylinder). This is why the rider or service department must flush and change this fluid at least every two years. Next issue, I will concentrate on the four main fixes for the various hydraulic clutch recalls that have plagued both Twin Cam and Milwaukee-8. These recalls have much to do with air leaks, hydraulic fluid moisture absorption, and ineffective/defective secondary clutch actuator components. Donny Petersen www.donnypetersen.com Biker 101: The Life of Don sequel will be released early October.

Well, here we are again at the end of another summer. How was yours? Mine, at the risk of sounding privileged, kicked ass! I didn’t count all of my miles, but I did manage to keep track of states that my wheels rolled through. Thirteen states on three different motorcycles and another epic adventure yet to come. I hope you have enjoyed riding along with my adventures! Sadly, I have had to say goodbye to my Indian Chieftain Dark Horse after only 2 years and a mear 8,000 miles. This summer I finally rolled her out of the shop from her hibernation sometime in June. Of course, her battery needed some charging and to my dismay, her tire was flat as a flap-jack. No worries, just plug in the battery tender and fire up the air compressor. That should cure what ails her, or so I thought. After riding to the office and back one day, I shut the Dark Horse off in the garage and noticed the power button stayed lit up and was fading in and out. Hmmm, that’s probably not good. Along with this, I noticed the headlight wasn’t shutting off. I spent about ten minutes starting the bike, shutting it off, and pushing buttons trying to turn off the lights and the ignition button. The lights turned off eventually but the power button stayed illuminated like some kind of sci-fi 80’s horror flick where the bike takes on a life of its own. Monday morning came and I decided to roll the Chieftain

out into the driveway before firing her up to avoid making noise at 5:45 A.M. Well, this could have gone a bit better, there I sat in the driveway with an all too familiar clicking sound coming from my start button. Dead battery, again! No time to toy with things, I left the bike right there in the middle of the driveway and took my jeep to work. Travis, being the saint that is, rolled the pony back to the stable and put the charger on and aired up the rear tire once again. Okie dokie, day three of adventures with the Indian. I rode to work no problems at all, shut the bike off and the ignition button began to glow at me. Lunch hour rolled around and I went for a spin, still no troubles and a beautiful day. Even 6 PM was ideal for a bike ride home after a long day at the office. But, one small problem, the bike was now dead…. AGAIN! Pushing 30 years of riding and around 20 motorcycles, I had never, until this day, been left stranded by a motorcycle of mine. To say I was pissed off doesn’t really cover the intensity of my emotional state. I was forty minutes from home in the parking lot of my office at 6 PM after working all day and had no means to get home. Luckily, Travis was home for the week and able to gather the battery power pack and make his way to my office. Meanwhile, I spent my time taking off the side covers, and seats and computer board to get to my battery posts to be able to charge it up. Now, the bike was home and I was knee-deep in forums trying to decide what to do about my recently possessed Dark Horse. As I was wading through the endless stories of others who have experienced electrical demons, Travis walked inside with the mail. To my surprise, there was a letter from Polaris informing me the bike was still under warranty. This was my lucky day! I dialed up the dealership and set up a time to drop off the bike to have things investigated. The forums I had read enlightened me that the problems usually take a month or two to weed out and that sometimes they are not fixed in the first round of dealership visits. Thankfully, I have several other bikes to ride while she is being patched up. Friday morning arrived and it was time to take the Indian for its appointment. I stopped to fuel her up for the 2.5-hour ride and at the pump she made a loud backfire when I hit the start button. She started, so I was happy, but a bit concerned about what this new issue could be. It wasn’t far down the road before I realized I had zero power. As in, wide open would barely get me to 70 MPH. Man, this was going to be a long ride. I texted Travis that I was having troubles, yes I was texting and riding, yes I know that is super dangerous. We pulled into a gas station about an hour into our trip and I sat with the bike running afraid to shut it off again.

The Rider’s Mag - Page 52

When we arrived at the dealership, I hit the power button and it stayed lit up and the lights stayed on. Then, as the tech went to roll it into the shop five minutes later, the bike was dead yet again. UGH! At least I made it to the shop. This was a month ago now and there has been no luck in fixing the demons. So far they have tried a new computer board and a new wiring harness along with with s few other tricks. I made the decision to give her away once she is fixed and ride home on a new BMW GS1200 Adventure bike instead. In the meantime, I have a cross country expedition to plan and have decided to take my BMW Nine-T from Wisconsin to San Fransico and many places in between. The Nine-T is far from a touring machine as you may have seen in August's issue from my New Orleans adventure. However, it now has a bigger windscreen, engine guards, and handguards. The phone holder and USB charger are lifesavers and easy to attach. She now has a new set of shoes and, soon to have panniers! With the right amount of determination and accessories, any bike can be a touring machine...as long as you have an iron ass to get it where you wish to go. I’ll be keeping you updated next month on my epic journey and my motorcycle “dilemma.” Thanks for following along! Ride safe and talk soon!

First order of business is to inform you that our biker/ motorcycle communities of Eastern Ontario has lost one of their icons! A man who, for over 40 yrs., not only, was part of our community but devoted much of that time to making things better for riders in one way or another! He was a member of The Celtic Brotherhood. Mike “Bozz” Bossio passed away August 17th just two weeks short of his 71st birthday.

different riding organizations over the years and at the time of his passing he was an executive member of ORRA (Ontario Road Riders Association) and SOAR (Society of Ottawa Area Riders) of which, he was Chairman of for the last 5 years ! He also was active in organizing breakfasts for his friends in the Retreads.

I have known Bozz for over four decades and was proud to call him a friend and my Brother! Especially in the last 7 yrs when he became a member of our club. He was married to his wife Adele, for 50 years and had two children. He became an auto mechanic and was involved with motorcycles from the very beginning. Eventually he opened Boss Auto Repair, which he operated as a family business and included his son Paul and his wife Angie. He and Adele belonged to many His other passions were; cooking and feeding people which he did with great skill and pride! Whether it was hamburgers, hot dogs or pulled pork it was done with zezt, zeal and done right! Over the last several years, you could find him, along with his TCB brothers, behind the griddle serving complimentary free breakfasts to riders participating in whatever events or rides! It didn’t matter that events were hosted by other clubs who were also active in community work such as BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) etc. , he was there!

The Rider’s Mag - Page 54

Rides our club hosted such as the Awareness Ride for Brain Injury and the Ride for Autism Ottawa, Bozz and crew not only did the breakfasts but they did the bbq’s and I think it’s safe to say in the last several years they probably fed well over 5000 motorcycle riders. In honor of his passion for both the motorcycle community aa well as feeding much of it, The Celtic Brotherhood are creating an award called the “Bozz”! Commissioned by our brother Grinder aka Mike Maloney, the metal sculpture made of motorcycle parts will hold a wrench on one side and a mini spatula on the other! It just seems to capture what he was all about and each year someone who we feel has gone that extra mile to make things better in our community, will be acknowledged by this award. There are too many people to mention that will miss Bozz, including all his brothers and sisters in the TCB family! I want to mention Michel Dupuis, Claude Brunet and the lovely Raquel Thibault from the 2804 Dice Run, Brother Dave Kuhnle and his wife Noella who are the founders of the Ride for Autism Ottawa and especially Buck & Denis Sarazin who have been involved in groups with Bozz from the French Connection to the Retreads. From all your Brothers in The Celtic Brotherhood to Brother Bozz... You are a true Biker’s Biker and while you have taken your last ride, here with us we are not sad at your leaving because you will be here every time one of us fires up their bike! Every time, we break out in uncontrollable laughter over some joke that nobody else in the world would understand but us. Whenever we hear the chorus to “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf, but most of all you will be with us every time we hug each other and say the words that only Bikers know the real meaning of .. “Love Ya Bro!” Until we all meet in Valhalla to raise a little Celtic Hell...Love and Brotherhood. Every year the members of the Bytown Chapter of the Ruffians MC hold their Annual Rooftop Rockout at Eastside Mario’s in Bells Corners and each year the charity or organization they help out is a different one! This year all the funds raised were being donated to The Keepers, a non-profit animal rescue and considering that the Ruffians MC were big supporters of TCB’s “A Chance, Animal Rescue Inc” whenever they have had a fundraiser it seemed like a logical choice for them. You always hear about Bikers and their dogs and its true, so a lot of people showed up to support the club. Brother Chuckay & I arrived early so we could get a good table and its lucky we did, because the rooftop patio began filling up big time with both local clubs and lots of independents. Some of the clubs who came by to participate were Bondslaves MC, HAMC, Red Devils MC, Last Disciples MC, Simple Men

MC, Outlaws’ MC, 601 Mc and The Celtic Brotherhood. It was quite the event, with lots of prizes being given out and all that open air kept the food servers hopping. I had a long talk with Church, aka Scott Towaij from the Bondslaves MC, who, along with several The Rider’s Mag - Page 55

members of his club, offered their heartfelt condolences of the passing of the “Bozz”. He apologized that he personally wouldn’t be able to make the first Celebration of Life for Bozz, because he and several members were attending a Bondslave MC event stateside but he assured us that members of their club would be in attendance. Throughout the night just about everyone on the rooftop dropped by our table to say how sorry they were for our loss and to mention how much respect they had for Bozz because of his commitment to the club. Also, being the president of SOAR (Society of Ottawa Area Riders) an organization that has been very active over the last 30 years in making the roads safer for motorcycle riders! They are also are responsible for Ottawa and later the whole Province of Ontario officially declaring May as Motorcycle Awareness Month along with getting consideration on Ontario allowing things like lane-splitting etc. I spent time over at the Simple Men MC table catching up with Duane Chevalier, Ed Hozsko & of course long time brother Perry Montgomery. The members of the Cap-City Chapter of the Falcons MC held their first Annual Battlefield Run & BBQ and about 60 riders participated including members of the Last Disciples MC, Bondslaves MC, Black Pistons MC, Soldiers for Jesus MC.

The Celtic Brotherhood provided a free breakfast to all those participants who came out to show support for the Falcons MC. One of the first riders I to talked with was Front Brake Nate from the SFJ MC who just recently was cut off by a dump truck driver! He was forced off the road and into the gravel and loose stones and had to lay his bike down. The good news is that with the exception of cosmetic damage to his bike and a patch of tattoo removal road rash and some stiffness he had no broken bones. The Rider’s Mag - Page 56

This was the first official breakfast that TCB has done since the passing of their brother, Bozz and while it went smoothly with brothers Chucky and Hark now taking over the duties of “chef”! It did feel a little bit strange not to see Bozz standing behind the griddle with that giant spatula in his hand cooking breakfast. Over the last 3 yrs TCB has supported other rides as well as their own and fed thousands of people to promote brain injury awareness to the motorcycle community. I was talking with Catfish aka Mike Chiviendacz who informed me that several different chapters of the Falcons MC would be taking part in the ride and they were pleased at the turnout of members of other area clubs and already looking forward to their 2020 ride. I was sorry that I had to leave after the riders headed out because instead of the usual pulled pork or hamburgers and hot dogs the Cap-City Boys put on a Seafood Boil for the return meal. They even called out to all the riders before departure to see if any of them had issues with seafood so they could prepare a substitute dish. Much thanks to the Falcons MC they are truly a class act and we look forward to next year. There is still lots of riding season left but as the days get shorter please be careful because the automobiles aren’t always! Just a couple of weeks ago some friends, originally from this area came up to visit and while on their way to hook up with friends at Rideau Carleton Raceway, a van pulled out in front of them! They totalled their brand new trike, putting her in the hospital for over a week with numerous broken bones but thankfully not life threatening injuries and while he didn’t stay in the hospital both arms were damaged. I realize that many of you might wonder why I go out of my way to mention the names of people or clubs that participate or help out in some way in our community but that is exactly why I do, we are a community and I think it is important to recognize those clubs and individuals who go that extra mile to make things better and maybe also to encourage more of you to do the same because trust me even though it can be tiring it is pretty amazing when you actually get to meet your fellow riders and get to know them. One other thing that I want to ask all of the readers and supporters of The Riders Mag, there are over half a million Brain Injury Survivors in the province of Ontario alone and many of them are bikers but even if they weren’t, they are our family members, our friends, our neighbors and people we work with and they need your support for the “Invisible” Injury so please contact your local Brain Injury Association and help out whether by donating or in some other way and if you are not sure who to contact then please email me at the address below and I will find out for you, thanks! If you would like more information about it or any of the other events I mention you can go on Facebook and go to “Motorcyco Beau’s Biker Events & Rides In Eastern Ontario” and you can also check out my Facebook group “Motorcyco Beau’s Biker Friendly Businesses in Eastern Ontario” as well. As Always I urge you to support the events and rides that are created by bikers and clubs in your area because unlike slick organizations that run events the local riders and clubs will be the same people that come to support your event. Also please remember to spend your money with businesses such as those that advertise in our Mag or who have proven they are truly Biker-Friendly and have shown their support for our lifestyle and in turn deserve our support and business back. If you have any issue that you think might be of interest to your fellow riders please reach out to me and let me know either by email or on Facebook. The Rider’s Mag - Page 57

If you have an event or ride or you are a business that deals with either motorcycles or the people who ride them you might like to advertize or even perhaps become a distributor of “The Riders Mag” and if so please contact me by email or by phone. As always I want you to please remember that we make our Motorcycle Communities stronger by making them better! email: theridersmag.beau@gmail.com Twitter Riders Mag East @ motorcyco_beau You can also read us online : www. theridersmag.com/online ......
