It is with great pride that I can hoist the Volume 20, issue 1 flag up the masthead, raise anchor, set sail and boldly put the good ship “The Riders Mag” on course for our 20th Year! We’ve managed to keep most of the old crew together and Shanghaied some new blood and have them working just fine but we can use some additional support with deliveries and event coverage out London way! Avast, ye scurvy dogs! Full speed ahead, third star on the left and straight on ‘til morning, and pass me the rum and a bottle of Labatt’s 50 or two and let’s see what adventures lie ahead in 2018! This whole thing began back in 1998 when JR MacRae and JB Ballantine, came up with the crazy idea of publishing a Canadian Biker’s Magazine with its main focus being the Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts, (The Narley Harley Riders to be specific!) and made it a reality! They intended to serve and service mainly an area of the Province of Ontario known as the Golden Horseshoe! This would be a challenge, as neither of them had a clue about the magazine business or any of the industries’ many facets. They figured they’d have some fun with it and that it may last about six months! So, began the adventure! They bulled ahead, relying on friendships, promises, bartering, bantering, a keen sense of humour, thick skin and just pure nerve to get a core group of advertisers and supporters together and they got it done! The Riders Mag was born! They covered a few large local events like The Supershow and The London Show and made their first real official appearance with an actual printed magazine with them as opposed to just talk of a magazine, at the National Motorcycle Show in Toronto April, 1999. They set up a booth and with the help of parents and kids and handed out all of the 10,000 Mags that they had printed. The Mag was off to a good start! They made a memo to themselves to print more Mags next time! This is where I first met them and my adventure begins! I checked it out and noticed the lack of cartoons and with me having done cartoons over the past 20 or so years for magazines like; Easy Rider, Iron Horse, and others and having a huge pile of cartoons at home that I offered to give them! They were interested so I gathered up a bunch and brought them with me to the Barrie Motorcycle Show, they bought me beer and food in the beer garden, Janie smiled enticingly and together, they casually set the hook and began to reel me in slowly and steadily! I had been shanghaied but didn’t know it, yet! I had become part of the crew! They were printing 12 issues a year back then and circulation kept on growing! The Mag continued to grow in popularity that surpassed all expectations! I got more and more involved by first, doing deliveries in my area that was ever expanding, necessitating me to go from a small car and motorcycle to a bigger car then to a truck and then a bigger truck! I then

started doing shows and events like Port Dover with them and the wonderful gentleman know as Alex Senior! Next, they asked me to cover events and do write ups and take pictures and I did that, venturing out further and further, extending the boundaries of “Critter Country” and meeting plenty of great people and making lots of friends along the way! This Magazine was now a big part of my life and occupied most of my time! I bought bigger and better cameras, became somewhat computer savvy and It was then I knew I was hopelessly hooked! Then came the time when they told me that they wanted to step back and away and asked me to take over The Mag! I declined! They were persistent! I had resolve! They were more persistent and had a fridge full of 50! I said no! They handed me a 50 and said here hold this, stood me at the helm of The Riders Mag and jumped ship! The Bastards! It was now, sink, swim or learn really quick, how to run this thing! Over the next five years; me and my small crew, battled stormy seas, sharks, barracuda, Kraken, pirates, mutineers, liars, treachery, cheats and came face to face with my own short-comings and all kinds of other stuff! But I’m still here, due largely, to out and out stubbornness, stupidity, the support of my long-suffering wife, Godzilla! I had the help of a lot of friends and buoyed by the good will of good friends and our many readers and supporters! I’ve also had to retire from my day job as truck driver for Canada Cartage that I’d had for 45 or some odd years due to an injury! I think we finally have our computer and e mail issues in hand and the office Gremlin “Fuck” has been brought under control thanks to our new computer geek “Dave”! My Lovely young intern Chantel is doing well and keeping things together although I thought she’d lost it completely a few days ago while dealing with Rogers trying to get our phone issues (Our toll-free number and other lines have not been working!) that have been plaguing us for Months now resolved! Anyone who has had to deal with companies that promise the moon and stars but can’t deliver on those promises but still expect to get paid, can surely sympathize! Anyway, I think we may have that sorted out now! Brenda, “The Beast”, our extraordinary new graphics person, seems much more content now that the computers are behaving! So far, so good! I’ve been trying to get out to recent events such as The Beachville Swap and London Swap Meets but the computer issues have been occupying so much of our time and energy it has been impossible! We do however have someone covering some of these events in the persona of Swap Meet Sue who is at most of these events and more anyway! Plus, Fast Freddy Hale from Strictly V Twin up in Pefferlaw has volunteered to provide give us his perspective and coverage at different events as well! We’ve got lots of stuff on our plates right now what with the upcoming Dundas Swap meet, Fort Erie swap meet, Spring Motorcycle Show Peterborough Swap Meet, Classy Chassis Shop party and a ton of other stuff but we do have The Rider’s Mag - Page 7

a handle on it!

Hip’s Cycle’s 30th Anniversary Open House I wouldn’t miss this party for the World! It is always a great time, with great people in attendance and we simply, can’t forget the food! Sometimes though, it has been an adventure getting here! This was the case today! Windy, cold as a witch’s tit and tons of snow every mile of the way (In the early part of February, Go figure!)! But hey, we are the Riders Mag, not some wimpy magazine! It takes more than a little blizzard to keep us away from an event, especially when there is good company and great food at the end of the trail! We got it done and got there and even managed to secure a great parking spot right in the lot out front! It is and always has been a great shop with old school values and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation and the customer is always treated honestly, fairly and with respect! They have not survived in this business by resting on their laurels but have kept pace with the changing times with a new computerized system are up to date with the latest trends and techniques! They very progressive team who can give you what you really want in terms of a motorcycle, from mild to wild and everything in between! Chantel has been dealing with John Hip over the phone for months now and had has heard my stories of the shop and the great crew they have working here since she started with us! I try giving her some background on the people and the businesses who make up our customer base as we go so that she has a frame of reference as to who they

The Rider’s Mag - Page 8

are and what they do! It amazes me that she can retain all the stuff I tell her and when I’m making introductions she can almost immediately, jump into a knowledgeable conversation! When I introduced her here to Johnny Hip it was like they had already met and they just took right off! I had the absolute pleasure of also being able to give her an introduction to Johnny’s Dad, Hip himself! Jim Hipkin the man who started it all and has earned such a great reputation and a tremendous following of customers who not only appreciate the fine work that he has done over the years and the influence that he has had on motorcycling, motorcyclists here in Canada but for being such a fine individual and a friend! He has shown great respect for Harley-Davidson over the years and never veered away from it! He even replicated the original Harley-Davidson shed right on his property accurate down to the spacing of the nails and other minute details! It is due to his character and personality that all these fine folks look forward to, and come out to these open house celebrations! Sure, the food is great, there are great deals to be had and you get to gather with a whole lot of like minded people who come from miles around to be here, but the real reason we come is to pay tribute to a man who has done a lot and had a whole lot of influence on how custom bikes are built and how performance work is done! We wandered through the Shop talking to various folks along the way! I started to introduce Chantel around

only to discover that she already knew many already from previous events! I see that my buddy Wayne Reilly has taken on a very prominent role in the shop! I’ve always liked him and am sure he will be a huge asset! It was great to get to talk to Lee as well, albeit briefly! She is a delight in her own right! Downtown Dennis was there and he his usual cheerful state but today he was particularly

stoked and we were soon to find out why! His old Shovelhead has been brought back to life, it looks fantastic and ready to go thanks to the fine folks at Hip’s Cycle and is he officially back on the road! There is sure to be a path worn in the floor from him dragging everybody and anybody over to check it out and point out the neat stuff they did to it!

people coming from all over the map, despite the winter storm that Mother Nature had cooked up for the occasion! You could sense the anticipation and there seemed to be a noticeable shift of the crowd toward one particular side of the room. The moment the chili and the meatballs appeared and the covers came off the pots, trays and slow cookers, the line formed and they were on it! Mississippi did not disappoint! We couldn’t wait around for Jim to blow the famous three o’clock whistle to hit the road, as the weather wasn’t looking any better out there and we still had another event left to do today back in the Newmarket area and knew the trip could take a while! Congratulations on 30 years Hip! See you next year! Brothers of the Blade Throttle Itch Party Chantel and I headed to the Brothers of the Blade CH for

Yes, I saw the rear signal lights Dennis! This is typical of the kind stuff that Hip’s has done for riders all these years that makes dealing with them so great! The place was soon packed with

the Annual Throttle Itch party! This was Chantel’s first time attending this great party and I gave her a brief rundown on it and some of its history! I explained how it used to be a very popular event that drew hundreds of people out from miles around, had live bands, such as Grant Fullerton and his band, Jamnation, Robbie Lane and the Disciples and the places that they held the party at were always completely sold out well in The Rider’s Mag - Page 9

advance of the event. One year, several years back, a last-minute issue with the venue, forced them to cancel, they moved the party to their Clubhouse! It was still great but it was drastically downsized! Throttle Itch still goes on each year but it is now an invite only affair and is far easier for the Club to manage! It is still a great time, and Throttle Itch is still one of the Clubs main fundraisers for the “WISH (Working In Support of the Handicapped) Foundation”. WISH is the Blades own registered charity that they run! From it, through their own Board of Directors, they assess, fund and oversee projects for various area group homes, filling the huge void that exists between what Government funding provides and what the actual needs of these Homes happen to be. These projects can range from; specialized equipment, repairs, maintenance or meeting any number of needs! We arrived to find the parking lot filled with vehicles and people milling around either gabbing while having a smoke or readying the barbecues for preparation of some of the tasty food for later in the evening! The house was packed as usual and everyone was having a great time! I noticed many members of the Brothers of the Wheel MC were up from the United States to support their Canadian Brothers! It is always good to see them and they really seem to enjoy themselves! We wandered around, meeting and greeting those from near and far who had come out then I just turned Chantel loose with the camera! As I said, this is always a great event and it is highlighted by the tremendous buffet dinner that they lay out for their guests! Some of the members and supporters go to great lengths to outdo whatever has been done at previous events! This year, skewers of roast duck and other tasty treats were brought around as appetizers just prior to the announcement that the buffet was ready to go! This year the club decided to have the buffet supplied by a local restaurant and caterer “Let’s be Frank” who has a great spot right up on Davis Drive just east of the 404 (In the Beer Store/McDonalds plaza) right here in

Newmarket! They specialize in “Italian food” and make some of the best pasta, veal and chicken sandwiches in these parts! There was enough food there to feed an army! Complimenting the food provided by the caterer, were some additional items prepared by some of the wives of members like the brisket au “jus, the duck and much more! If you left here hungry, you only had yourself to blame!

Anyhow, we stayed for a while but it had been a long but satisfying day made up of long hours on the road fighting shitty weather and I was past-due to relax at home with Godzilla and the Wonderdogs and Chantel had her family stuff to do so I dropped her off and headed home! On a different note; Some friends of mine (People think that I know everything or can find out information about everything and anything!) asked my help in tracking down the source of rumours that have been circulating about the existence of, or plans for a new “Strip Club” that either exists or is coming to the Thornberry, area! They have been unable to locate this club or find anyone who knows anything about it!

Anne Maria Vanderpost - May 26, 1946 - February 5, 2018 – RIP- GBNF I was shocked to hear of the passing of Anne! I knew that she had health issues but wasn’t prepared for this kind of news! She was full of life and loved her perch on the back of her husband, Jake’s HarleyDavidson and accompanied him on his many trips all over this Country and the United States! You never knew where they were going to turn up and I ran into them often on the road! My sincere condolences to Jake, her husband of 51 years her family and friends. She had great spirit and a good heart and will be missed by all who knew her! I really wanted to get out to her Celebration of life that was held Feb. 17/18, but due to my schedule here at the Mag and being on deadline, I was unable to attend!

Policaro Harley-Davidson Shop of the Month shoot We had been trying to get this shoot done since early last year but the building was still under construction and the date kept getting pushed back due to one construction issue or another! For months now, I had been fielding many questions from many interested people about if, when and where this new Harley-Davidson Dealer was to happen! I was trying to provide answers but had none! The dates kept moving which is common with most construction projects! Finally, General Manager Tony Colangelo and I were able to set a firm date and decided that we would shoot with one of their motorcycles and a lady of his choosing at the new store that was still a construction site and let our graphics lady Brenda “The Beast” work her magic with photoshop and create a great and suitable back-drop! So, I loaded up my camera gear and headed out on a frigid morning to meet with the Amazing Jennifer and get it done! We met at the trailer right on site that was situated among the piles of dirt and other construction related equipment, were issued hard hats and then proceeded inside to where one sportster sat waiting to co-star in this photoshoot! This would be fairly straightforward as there really wasn’t anything to complicate it! One motorcycle, no costume changes, no hair and makeup as Jennifer already looked incredible! We were done in no time and heading off on our separate directions! From what I hear from Tony Colangelo and Jennifer this store will be different from what we have come to expect and have experienced before! The Policaro Family is no stranger to the automotive business, they already have top brands like Porsche, Lexus, Acura and BMW Dealerships under their umbrella and are extremely confident about what they can do with Harley-Davidson!

I gotta say, when the weather is beautiful, and I can ride my bike whenever I want, I am far more productive and capable of having my shit together. You give me the winter blahs, with all this ice and f’cking snow, and I lose my shit. I have forgotten what I did yesterday. I hibernate. I miss important dates (or lose track of dates altogether). Now, you give me excellent riding weather and I’ve got things to do! I’m on point (because I want that daily responsible shit done so I can ride my bike!). I am oddly and somewhat surprised that in this shitty cold weather, I don’t opt to wear a helmet in just my everyday normal life. Not because I miss my bike (because I do, he’s so pretty), but because of my ability to hurt myself performing basic tasks. Riding requires skill, balance, attention. Winter however, allows me to hone in on my skills of displaying a total lack of gracefulness. I can walk into a doorframe like a drunk. And I’m not even drinking at the time! I have stepped outta my truck and without missing a beat, literally slid under it because of the ice in my driveway. And I can’t skate! When your hairdresser can pick out spots of damage to your skull from splitting it open, more than once, (or brain damage, more than once) then you know that your ‘skill du excellence’, is being the least graceful one in your peer group. I’ve dropped my bike, in slow motion I may add, while on it, merely by parking it. Not recently mind you, but knowing that I carry that natural gene shows that my capabilities are endless! Often Mike will say, “It’s a good thing you’re cute.” Since Christmas I’ve been battling pneumonia and I’ll be honest. I’m a suck and a wimp when I’m sick. I missed out on New Years Eve altogether. What really hurt was the parties that some of our biker buddies had that we could not attend because I was sick, and you tell people that you have pneumonia and you’d think that you just said, “I’ve got rabies”, because people scatter the other way or stand The Rider’s Mag - Page 16

across the room like they think you’re gonna bite ‘em. As winter still rears its ugly head, we try to find anything that has to do with bikes, or about bikes. Hell, I’d take a broadway musical on motorcycles right about now. Shopping has been my drug. A bat wing for my ‘gator, some unique saddlebags to adorn her ass end, a slight paint job on the tank, perhaps of the Canadian flag tastefully done that will only add to the ‘gator seat look, and if I play my cards right, a mini trailer, with The Riders Mag etched on the side. I can use the trailer to truck around mags and swag, pins and shirts! The bat wing is easy enough, but I’m thinking the saddlebags I want to have custom-made. Vintage oldstyle type maybe. This all requires online shopping as well as in-person scavenging. Classy Chassis is a great place to start. After all, it’s where we got the ‘gator, so why not

start there? Jan 27th was their Plan Your Ride Day. A little way to escape the ‘Cabin Fever’, that we’re probably all feeling right about now. This event allowed riders to meet with various organizers of rides and events that’s coming up this year, from the HHR, the Ride for Dad, Bikefest and Ride for the Cure, just to name a few. They have this event every year, with refreshments of course, and you always end up finding out about a ride or two that you were not aware of, which is an added bonus. Plus, they have some great bikes to tease you with, as I’ve become victim to their ways. I’ll be sure to give you a heads up on their Shop party on Feb. 24th. They hold events on a pretty regular basis, even in this blah kind of winter weather. If you’ve been following along, I’ve mentioned a women’s riding group that I ride with. It’s such a great group, as even in the winter, these girls get together for

coffee once a week, sometimes head to one’s house for cards, darts, drinks etc. It helps with cabin fever, and the support that these girls offer one another in times of strife is immeasurable. Hell, they’ve even done a women’s toy party…you know, like Pure Romance parties. If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, google it. I found it to be such a good time (and even quite educational). The meet ups are such a great way to keep your biker buddies in your life in the winter. Another helpful thing is to park your bikes in one of the largest rooms in the house, and start them every now and then while they’re stored). You know, talk to them. They get lonely. Now I hope that you’ll be catching up with me at some upcoming events. I’m looking forward to the Spring Motorcycle Swap Meet at the Peterborough Morrow Building on March 25. There’s bikes for sale, bike parts, clothing, accessories, a little bit of everything. Even food! Some of our advertisers from the Mag are there, such as Eagle Eye Custom Cycles and Make It Roar. It’s a great place to get some key oneon-one time with these guys because they know what they’re doing. Now, our feisty little firecracker Tam from Quinte Ride for Paws is out and chasing folks down with the Mag. If you live in and around CFB Trenton, she’s got you covered. Her and I have literally scared men in parking lots, as it has become somewhat of a competition (when we’re actually in the same place at the same time) to run out of our vehicles and introduce ourselves to the rider and drop a Mag in their paws. (and if you’re one of the guys we’ve frightened, I sincerely apologize) There’s not enough therapy in the world for you gents when you’re dealing with her and I. Most events start to pick up in June, however April 7th and 8th is the Spring Motorcycle Show, I missed the January show as I was sick, so I’m planning on being at this show to make up for lost time. I hope to see you there for pics, info on rides that you may know of that I know nothing about, and to get more beer nuts!!!! We are getting in a small trip to Florida at the end of February, for about four days, just to visit Mike’s family. It’ll be a nice break from this snowy shit. I’m breaking out the bikini ‘cause I’ve been so wrapped up like a cocktail wienie in a sleeping bag all winter. You have a visual? See, like I said, LOTS of therapy. I’ll be honest, I’m just getting over the dreadful sickness and I’ve not been out much since before Christmas, so if I seem lacking in my absolutely charming self, screw you, I’m sick! Lol just kidding. I’m going back to my blanky and sweats (how utterly attractive) oh and with no make up, you really should shake Mike’s hand for what this guy deals with living with me on a daily basis. As always, catch me on FB at L’il Red “The Riders Mag” Central and Eastern Ontario, and you can shoot me an email at lilred@theridersmag.com. Even just to say hey!!!! I even have FB messenger for those that are FB shy. Got an event coming, hook me up with the details. It’s that easy. Luv ya!

Looking out of my window I see a winter wonderland. It is Sunday, February 11 and this past weekend has seen a hefty snowfall followed by freezing rain. I hope that Mother Nature continues to get this out of her system because it’s only 36 days until Spring and like many of you, I’m itching to go for a ride. What to do during the winter? For me, I watch my NY Rangers and as of right now, the team is having a fire sale as a result of their need to rebuild. Family Day weekend will find my hubby Lloyd and I in Ottawa to watch the Ottawa Senators vs the New York Rangers. Despite this, the thought of motorcycles is never far from my mind as I intend to check out a few stores while there. One can never miss an opportunity to check out motorcycles and accessories!! As most of you know, I ride with one (left) hand as a result of a congenital birth defect to my right arm. My two motorcycles are equipped with a finger throttle on the left handlebar and a centrifugal force clutch which disengages the engine based on rpms. I still shift the same as you, however, your clutch lever is my front brake. Late last year, I met with John Cosentini, Owner of Motorcycle Enhancements in Oakville, to discuss the possibility of changing the finger throttle on my Shadow as I had found the tension to be very tight. This resulted in my being unable to ride it for long periods of time without a rest as fatigue would set into my left forearm within an hour to 90 minutes. John suggested that I consider a thumb throttle similar to those on ATVs. I did not act on this at the time because I was hoping to purchase a Sports Tourer at the January Motorcycle

The Rider’s Mag - Page 18

show so thought it best to wait before moving forward. My thought was that if I found a bike that suited me and I could get both to John at the same time. Much to my disappointment, I found that I would need a ladder to get onto those models which interested me as a result of my short stature. While Honda could lower the CB500X, that would only reduce it by approximately 2 inches which would still be too high for me. So, once the show was over, I contacted John who picked up Hankster 2.0 and transported him to his shop where he continues to rest comfortably. I did pop by last week to pay him a visit and try the new throttle which John had fabricated. I am so glad that I listened to his advice and know that the outcome will be fantastic! Before he comes home, Hankster 2.0 will also be outfitted with a backrest and bags so he will have a whole new look. As mentioned in my last article, I continue to look for female riders to participate in the Women In Motorcycling exhibit at the Spring Motorcycle show being held Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8. This will be a fantastic exhibit showcasing women who as a result of their stories, will inspire other women to either move from the back to the front seat or to get onto a bike for the first time. If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to me. For those of you who did not have an opportunity to see Hankster 1.0 (my Honda Rebel 300) at the motorcycle show in January, he will be making an appearance at the Spring show. I am also planning on having Hankster 2.0 (my Honda Shadow Aero 750) there as well, complete with the new throttle. I am hoping that the weather will allow me to ride them both to the show and back home (one at a time of course lol). As you may or may not know, I am entering the world of inspirational speaking. At the time of publication, I am honoured and proud to have been asked to speak at the Learning Curves Instructor Recertification event being held in early March. I am also scheduled to speak at the International Women’s Day 2018 Celebration on Sunday, March 4 which is open to the public. For details, please reach out to me. I have also been asked to speak at a charity event being organized by After Breast Cancer - date to be confirmed. I have been told by many that I am an inspiration and that I should share my story with others. Critter has graciously allowed me to use this space to not only do that but to share my riding tales which will be many this upcoming season! Believe it or not, when I am approached and told that I am an inspiration to others, my shy side comes out and I am most humbled. Having said that, if my story can make a positive difference in someone’s life, I am more than willing to open the vault to share. If you are aware of an opportunity for me to speak, please do not hesitate to contact me. As you already know, being a part of the motorcycle community is more than the ride. It is the instant acceptance by others within the family - the immediate gift of brothers and sisters who will never leave or judge you. I know this first hand. I actually posted this as a Tweet earlier today and one of the responses which I received was as follows - “It’s quite possible that we aren’t judgmental because we are too often judged ourselves by our appearance alone” How unfortunately true. My biggest hope is that others learn to adopt this attitude of no judgment. With this spirit, imagine how far we can all soar! Until next time, Thanks for reading and remember, why discourage when you can encourage! Ang EMAIL: WEBSITE: BLOG: FACEBOOK: TWITTER:

For me, there is only one way to throw off the winter doldrums and that’s getting together with great people in our community. That was exactly the case February 3rd with an invite to one of our provinces many RC’s new club house grand openings. This invite came from the Rock Riders RC. Live music, food, and good times were what this wellattended event was all about. Catching up with Barry Scott of the Rock Riders RC of their past season and some of the many memories that came up was the Ride for The Breath of Life. This ride is an annual motorcycle fundraising event in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada held in Airdrie Alberta. This ride stops in Linden, Didsbury, Water Valley, with the wrap-up party at the Century Downs Race Track. Awesome weather, a safe ride and awesome people all came together to make this an event worth attending and the memories made, priceless. Another event that Barry reminded me of that I have not had the pleasure to attend in the Rock Riders Annual Newfoundland Camp out. This event will be held again this year at the Dog Pound Rodeo grounds, Dog Pound Alberta June 29th – July 2nd, 2018. Thanks again for the memories, reminders and of course for the invite to the club house Barry. We are looking forward to stopping in and attending your house and events as much as possible this summer. If you would like to stop in for a visit or attend one of their events, please call Barry at 1 403 369 5728. Thanks again for having us to your grand opening, truly a great place to visit. Distribution of the Mag has been doing great with honorable mention to Kane’s Harley Diner for continuing to get the magazine into peoples hands. Now, this is one place that if you ride into Calgary (1209 9th Ave S.E.), you really have to stop in, check it out and have a meal. With drinks and food and good times like this, it’s hard not to have a great time in surroundings like these. This being said, I would like to thank most every Dealership in the province for helping with distribution so if you would like a copy, please don’t be shy of asking someone at the dealerships to hook you with a copy. Please check us out on face book as well, The Riders Mag – Alberta should get you connected with local happenings. Last but not least, a reminder that the riders mag is a free magazine paid for by our advertisers. All of the staff are volunteers from the editors on down. To get more space in the mag, we need more advertisers. Please patronize our advertisers as they make the mag possible. If you have any questions or would like to advertise, please give me a call at 1 403 443 3126 Dan. T. Riding With Momma The countdown is on!! One more month closer to the riding season. I for one am looking forward to getting out on the open road. It’s been a long time since I saw this much snow in the winter months in Alberta. Granted, the swap meets have started to get underway, just teasing us enough to experience the PMS that most bikers experience The Rider’s Mag - Page 22

through the winter months. This is also the time, that as riders we plan some of my rides we want to take during the riding season. Momma would like to share a favorite ride my family and friends love to do. Maybe it will peak your interest and become one of the must-do destinations for your riding season this year. RIDING THE KOOTENAYS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA – Part 1 As a young girl growing up on the prairies of Southern Alberta, the mountains of British Columbia were my number one place to visit. I remember as a child my father taking us to BC to all the fun tourist destinations and theme parks on our family trips. For me, it was more the love of the majestic sceneries, roadside turnouts, camping by the lake, the smell of the woods, and most of all the love of the adventure. Turns out that as an adult my love for the mountains has not waned. I have taken many trips through B.C. on my bikes. There is nothing more therapeutic than riding somewhere you love. I must admit that Riding in the Kootenays of B.C has to be one of the most exhilarating. Looking back over the years of taking this ride once, twice maybe more times a year I thought I’d share some of the most spectacular routes to ride, places to check out and biker friendly places to sleep. Whether it is a great biker friendly Campground or a motel that welcomes bikers with open arms. Redcliff just outside of Medicine Hat, Ab is where I’m from, it takes approximately a 6-hour ride along the #3 Hwy in order to get to Cranbrook B.C. This is usually the first stop that most bikers from southern Alberta make, It’s not too far but a nice first-day ride. I personally like it because by then if there is something wrong with your bike you can get it checked out. Cranbrook B.C. is home to Harley Davidson of the Kootenays, located along the #3. If anything needs to be fixed on your bike Chuck, Diane and the Staff will get you fixed up and back on the road before you know it. Even if you don’t have any bike troubles they have a wonderful selection of Riding apparel, new and previously owned inventory, and a friendly and experienced staff ready to help you get what you’re looking for and back on the Road. Just down the street is the LAZY BEAR LODGE owned and operated by Dennis and Sharon Brown. The Lazy Bear is a biker friendly motel that I and a lot of my friends have been staying at for years. Through many different owners, it has always been the custom to present each rider with a cold beer after a long ride. It may not seem like much, but you know as well as I do that the first thing a rider thinks about when they stop for the night is a nice cold beer. The motel features a beautiful outdoor pool, a BBQ area, picnic tables, security cameras, safe parking as well as a fridge in each room to keep the adult beverages nice and cold. The Lazy Bear is within walking distance to restaurants and pubs, it’s conveniently located off the #3 Highway on the main drag. Tons of bike groups stay at the Motel throughout the summer months because of its location and wonderful hospitality. Dennis and Sharon Brown also own another Biker Friendly Motel in Grand Forks, BC called Johnny’s On The River. Johnny’s also has a pool, carports between the units, BBQ area with picnic tables and some of the units have private patio’s that look out over the river. It too is centrally located within walking distance to restaurants and pubs. I’ve never had the pleasure of staying there yet, but there’s always this Year. From Cranbrook, if you continue on the #3, just outside of Creston you will find a biker friendly Campgrounds call Rider’s Ranch. RIDER’S RANCH, located on 11 acres on the Purcell Mountains in Kitchener B.C is owned and operated by Kirk and Cindy Berdahl. In 2006 Kirk and Cindy were riding back from a trip in the states and ended up staying at Rider’s Ranch for a couple of days. Both Cindy and Kirk fell in love with the place and on a whim asked Victoria, the owner of the Campgrounds at the time If she would be interested in selling the place. After sleeping on it, Victoria told Kirk and Cindy she would love to sell them the property. Both Kirk and Cindy had previous experience in the service industry and were looking forward to making Riders Ranch their own. 2007 was when Rider’s Ranch was open for business. I remember my first visit to Rider’s Ranch, I couldn’t believe the utter beauty of the campgrounds as I rode through the grove of trees at the entrance. The hidden entranceway for the bikes is still there but many changes have been made to the campgrounds. The campsites are tucked nicely into the large fir trees, providing a canopy of protection from the elements. They have a nice washhouse with hot showers and a community Bon Fire. Kirk and Cindy live on the property in a rustic house built from reclaimed wood from an old fruit factory torn down in Creston The previous owner of Rider’s Ranch was a horse lover so there was a huge stable nestled in the woods. Kirk and Cindy steel horse lovers decided in 2016 to renovate the stables and make it into an open type old time Saloon where their guests could hang out and visit. It took Kirk and his friends about two years to The Rider’s Mag - Page 23

convert the stables into a saloon, but it was definitely worth it. The Saggy Sack Saloon is equipped with a bar, a stage for the band and ample seating to enjoy your stay. 7 years ago, Kirk and Cindy Started to host an Annual Pig Roast, initially, it was held on the September long weekend but soon changed to the August long weekend. Not wanting to make their event a rally they try to keep it more intimate. All those years ago when they bought RR they wanted an “OLD SCHOOL BIKER CAMPGROUND”, a place where you can go to relax and spend time with family. August long weekend is exactly that. RIDER’S RANCH FRIENDS AND FAMILY PIG ROAST AUGUST LONG 2017 Showing up at Rider’s Ranch on the Saturday of the August long, husband in tow was something I was looking forward to. Quite a few of our friends from Medicine Hat were going to be there, and the Band KMAG-YO-YO also from Medicine Hat was the band playing the function. Greeted at the gate by big hugs and trash talk, made me feel right at home. As soon as we found our friends and got settled in it was off to the Saggy Sac Saloon for a cocktail. Those of you who know Momma know that I have to stop and talk to everyone, so needless to say, my husband went on ahead, while I did what I love doing…visiting and meeting new people..lol. As I had mentioned in my last column I met John Skipp from Canadian Biker Magazine. John and his friend Mark had had quite the trip to Rider’s Ranch. They started in Victoria, B.C. and were planning to ride the 900 kms to the ranch in one day, hoping to be there about 8 pm. That would not be the case, 3 hours into their trip Mark noticed a bright reflection on John’s rotors. After checking out the situation John knew something was seriously wrong. He had just had his front and rear tires replaced for the trip, but unfortunately, the axle spacers were put on the wrong axle and they neglected to space the calipers and routers properly. Not Good!! After a lot of phone calls, borrowing tools, some hard work, and a harrowing ride in the dark over the Salmo Pass, John was able to limp into Harley Davidson of the Kootenays and get things fixed up. 19 hours after they had left Victoria they made it to Riders Ranch, where Kirk and Cindy had set up camp for them. I joined my husband and friends at the Saloon. Sitting there having a drink I couldn’t help but notice that off by the bar there were a bunch of people gathered around a wood stump spinning a hammer. Curiosity getting the best of me I had to check it out. They were playing a drinking game called “Nagels”. You have to google it. Standing there watching this game was very entertaining but a little disturbing. Not ever has the combination of Hammer, nails, and beer ended in a good scenario. In my travels, I met a man they called “Buffalo Pete”, from Saskatoon, SK. I had a bond with this man immediately, when I ask the question that I always ask “What do you ride”, he replied “2005 Dyna”. Same model and year as Gemma. Pete had come out to ride British Columbia and decided to stay a while. 5,000 kms and 5 weeks later he had made his way to Rider’s Ranch. Pete had been at the Ranch on the July Long weekend to take part in the Rebel’s Memorial Run. Heading home after the long weekend, Pete told me he was looking forward to next years adventure. Every year about mid-July Arthur Moorcroft flies from his home in Johannesburg, South Africa to Calgary, AB., where his son lives. Arthur stores his bike there during the winter and rides to Rider’s Ranch every year for their Pig Roast. Arthur is quite the character and I had the pleasure of seeing him at a couple other events before he headed home. Kirk and Cindy put on quite the spread, with planning to start as early as December. Kirk and the guys take care of roasting the Pig and Cindy and the gals get everything else prepared. During the day 50/50 and raffle tickets had been sold throughout the day so after dinner, these draws were made. The band started and the party was on. As I was riding back to Cranbrook that night, I couldn’t help but smile. As much as I hate riding in the dark, seeing what Kirk and Cindy had put together for the “family”, it made me feel thankful. Thankful for the life, thankful for the friends and thankful for the adventure. Next stop Creston - To be continued…. That’s all the space I have for this month, stay tuned for part 2 of RIDING THE KOOTENAYS next month, Where I’m off to see Mary at Toad Rock. Looking forward to the combined effort of S.E.A.R., BWC, Kanuckleheads, Riders for HALO and Support Veteran Paratroopers for the 2nd Annual Winter Biker Blues Poker Stumble Feb 24th. Until next month, thanks for Riding With Momma, Stay Safe.

Feb.Firstissueoff ofin the my March article, I must apologize to my loyal readers in the Rogersville, Miramichi area for their missing Mag, they were sent out to me at the end of Jan. and here it is the middle of Feb. and UPS tells me that

they are in transit. I don’t know for sure, but I think even an old fart like me could have had them here (strapped to my back, walking from Ontario) by now! This leads me to another point. This winter has dropped a lot of hardships on us here in the Maritimes. Up until now, PEI Billy has done his best to deliver the Mag along with writing articles across P.E.I., Rob Barret has done a fantastic job of writing and distributing Mags across most of Nova Scotia, and myself trying to coordinate, write and distribute Mags through most of New Brunswick. That’s 3-people trying to supply a top rate motorcycle magazine throughout the whole Maritimes. It has taken its toll! I was informed last week that Billy’s health has gone for a shit, and he has been forced to give up his efforts with the Mag. Next, it was a call from Rob informing me that because of health and personal reasons will be missing in action for a while. As for me I’m struggling along but have to admit the job is taking its toll! I guess what I’m trying to say is that we need some help out here in order to keep the momentum of the Mag alive and well throughout the Maritimes! If you, your Club, M/C or other organization could spare a couple of hours a month, it would be a great help to the Mag. We need volunteers to cover P.E.I. deliveries, people in Nova Scotia to distribute there, And I could use help to look after western and southern New Brunswick. Of course, if you could put some words together in a manner that looks like a sentence or two is a welcome area too! It’s not that difficult, the Mags would be dropped off at your

doorstep, and all you must do is drop them at the local bars, restaurants, gas stations and any other places that you go to anyway. Please give me a call at 506-346-0224 or e-mail me at theridersmagatlantic@yahoo.ca. Speed is of the essence in

this endeavor. We can have you set up in short order. Another point is advertising. Wouldn’t it be great to have your business advertised in not only in the Maritimes but in 35,000 places across Canada! Call me for details. On a lighter note I happened to run across a Brother while I was driving through the great village of Rossaireville, Joe Isaian is passing his time waiting for this white shit to disappear, so we can get on two wheels again by building these reminders of that Chinese guy ‘Soon Come’ (spring). That’s it for this month, please get back to me about volunteering! Atlantic Jeff signing off>>>be well!

Here we are in the March 2018 issue of The Rider’s Mag and spring is just around the corner and so is the 2018 riding season. I hope everyone is making it through the winter ok, here is what I have been up to since the last issue of the mag. Remember way back in the July issue of The Riders Mag, I did a story on a local painter in the Hamilton area called Bloodstone airwerx? Well, the owner Darren Stone said he would paint my bike, so I took him up on the offer and got it done. I brought my bike out to his new shop at the end of November, when it was still nice enough to ride. I got it back at the beginning of January, with a whole new look and paint job (as you can see from the pictures). What once was red is now black with a wicked flame paint job, some scripture (John 3:16), a mural of Jesus on the cross on the side of my bike, and the words PLEASE KEEP CLEAR on the wheelchair holder. Since it is winter, and I couldn’t ride my bike back after it was finished, I got one of my REDEMPTION CREW BRO’S OF DCMC (Steveo) to help me out. We made the arrangements and Steveo came to pick me up at my place in Hamilton, then headed for Fenwick to pick up my ride. We arrived at Bloodstone Airwerx as Darren was just finishing up a few last details on my bike. After talking for a while, looking over the bike and charging the battery; we said our goodbye’s and headed for Hamilton, with a stop at Touchdown Willy’s in Smithville for lunch. Thanks again Darren for painting my ride I love it and to my bro Steveo for helping me out if you need painting of any kind done go see Darren at Bloodstone Airwerx @ 509 Weber Road in Fenwick, (almost Welland) and tell him wheels sent ya. Bacchus MC (Woodstock chapter) Swapmeet It was up and out the door early, as my friend and contributing writer, Stitch picked me up bright and early to head to Beachville, Ontario. It was the day of the Bacchus MC Swap meet. After making a brief stop at Tim Hortons to wait for a friend, we headed to Beachville location, Colombo club Italian-Canadian of Oxford where the swapmeet was taking place. We arrived just after 8 A.M. And started to set up our section beside the guys from Wellington County Choppers in the Guelph area and the doors opened at 10 and the crowds started to roll in and walk around and mingle with others and look at the parts etc. that were for sale. There was a good club presence at this year’s swap meet Bacchus MC, Hells Angels MC, Boozfighters MC, Iron Dawgs and I was Representing the Redemption Crew from Disciple Christian MC and The Riders Mag also. Just after lunch around 1 P.M., The crowds started to dwindle so we packed up and headed for Hamilton with a stop for some eats. The Rider’s Mag - Page 36

Hello Ladies and Gents, I use both terms loosely so don’t go getting offended! We are inching closer to riding season every day! I managed to sneak in a few hundred miles in January, yes the roads were salty, no I didn’t freeze to death, and hell yeah I had a good time! There are not many things that excite me more than motorcycle riding season except maybe Motorcycle Rally season. The U.S. is home to hundreds of bike rallies every year kicking off with Daytona Bike Week in Florida the 2nd week of March. If you can handle your bike in the sand head on down and ride the beach, take a walk down the main drag and

catch a wet T-shirt contest, or just drop in and hangout at the famous Boot Hill Saloon. If you’re feeling frisky you can lose your bra and panties to the large collection hanging from the ceiling and leave your mark to be remembered! Not to discriminate here guys but I don’t believe whitey tighties are as welcome of additions to the decore! If you are out for a ride a must stop place just outside of Daytona is The Cabbage Patch. Here you can witness what I believe is the world’s only Coleslaw Wrestling event. Yep you read that right I said Coleslaw Wrestling. I suppose if people flock to mud wrestling and midget wrestling why the hell not Coleslaw?! Next on the list would be the Iron Horse Saloon. This place is something of its own, bar, tree house, concert venue, gift shop, tattoo parlor, knife shop, outdoor burnout pit... and the best boat of steak and potatoes you have ever tasted! For only $8.00! The Iron Horse is just a tiny hole in the wall all year until Bike Week then it becomes somewhat of a motorcycle fun house. Wooden boardwalks lined with shops, full bars stuck in every corner, excellent live music, the burnout pit which never disappoints, and people watching for days! Off in the far back corner there is a sign for food and this is where you’ll want to be for lunch and dinner! For $8.00 you get a cardboard boat ridiculously heaped over with some of the most tender best tasting chunks of steak you have ever sent down your throat and a whole mess of potatoes to go

with it, they will also toss on onions and mushrooms if you wish. A must stop destination if you ever travel to Daytona for the rally. Not too far down from the Iron Horse is The Broken Spoke Saloon. Here is where some adult entertainment will be had. From the stripper pole on the main bar to the swings behind the bar there is always a show. I attempted the dance pole once (fully clothed) and acquired a whole new respect for the girls that climb their way up and down them, that shit is hard work! Aside from the female entertainment there are live bands every night and anything from hula hoop girls to fire dancers walking the crowd with shots and beads. A little something for everyone at this stop! I know I’m talking about all the bars here but that is because unlike other states in the U.S. Florida does lack in the riding options department. It is a rather flat state all the way around with a lack of hills and curves. If you are a beach or an ocean lover you are in luck there are hundreds of miles of coast line to ride. If you have an itch for an 8 hour day you can ride down to Alligator Alley and hang out with the reptiles lounging about or ride on to the Keys and

see where the U.S. begins at mile 1. Another thing Bike Week Rallys are famous for is the races! The Daytona Speedway has events throughout the week that are usually not to be missed. This year the week begins with the Monster Energy AMA Supercross races.

Bikes in the parking lot bikes on the track and bikers in the stands! Not a bad way to kick off a Saturday in the Sunshine State. Let’s see we have covered the main hot spots here, there is so The Rider’s Mag - Page 37

much going on throughout the week it is hard to fit it all into an article. Each rally is different in many ways simply due to location but they all share the vendors and bars and races on top of the bikes and awesome people who ride them. I have never had a problem tracking down gear, luggage, accessories, or parts at a rally. There is a wide variety of all things spread out for miles around the main event and not much you can’t find 2 wheel related. I’d have to say personally my favorite part of any Bike Week anywhere is simply the people. There is one hell of an amazing energy pumping out of a place that is filled with revving engines and leather clad ladies and gents! Nothing like the smell of exhaust and the sound of loud pipes to brighten your day! Everyone is wandering around for the same reasons in the same places with all the same interests and a million stories to share. It is crazy to hear stories from people that come from all over the world to share an event with you. The machines they ride, places they have been, and things they have done everyone has a story that led them to where they are. I have found many roads and destinations via people I struck up random conversations with while hanging out watching bikes and people roll by. Talk about breaking stereotypes, the vast array of people who ride bikes is unfuckingbelievable! Doctors, Lawyers, Politicians, Police Officers, you name a type they are riding bikes. Well I hope your winter is flying by and your wheels will be rolling soon! Be sure to let me know if you happen to make it to Daytona some year! Next month I am going to fill you all in on “The Granddaddy of Them All” the one and only Sturgis Motorcycle Rally!!! Stay tuned kids and thanks for following along!

Heading into March and so far this has been a really rough winter on everybody! Record low, freezing temperatures, has had an effect on attendance on events that people usually break up the winter blues by attending such as winter motorcycle shows and events, as the weather conditions made travelling any distance difficult for attendees and exhibitors alike. In Eastern Ontario the first event of the year is the Annual Greely Motorcycle Swap Meet which now is celebrating its fifth year! It has gone from being a one to a two-day event! Jim Poulin, the promoter has always wanted it to remain a true swap meet where motorcycle parts are the main attraction so he thought by adding an extra day it might encourage more riders to go through the parts they no longer use and rent a table and make some money while giving other riders the opportunity to find treasures. Another reason for the change was the hope that folks with swap outside the Ottawa area such as the Seaway & Ottawa Valleys might feel two days would make it worth their effort to bring their parts and accessories! Over the years people from these areas have commented if there were more time they might have come! It worked out because there were tables at the show from places like Pembroke, Cornwall and the Brockville area. Bette and I dropped by Friday night to see what we could do to help set up but everything was under the capable control by members of ARM (Association of Recovering Motorcyclists) who offered to help Jim get ready but also to manage taking care of the show over the weekend from beginning to end. Blair Skullz and the other members did a fantastic job, including being there to help vendors bring merchandise into the show and also to get whatever they were taking back at the end! as well as manage the whole event for Jim along with the help of Al Carmichael. Saturday morning the doors were open at 7:00 am for vendors to set up and were met by members of ARM and some of the Capital City Bikers Church who cheerfully helped them get their stuff in and then watched over things while the vendors went back out to park their vehicles. At around 8:00 am the folks at the legion were serving a hearty breakfast in the smaller hall and by the time the doors opened to the public at 10:00 am just about everyone was ready for action and the parking lot was filled almost to capacity with even cars and trucks parked along the roadway. Most swap meets are busy the first couple of hours and then things slow down but this year’s event was busy for nearly the whole time because there was so much swap out for sale and even then, as customers were making trips back and forth to their vehicles whenever possible someone associated with the show would offer to help. It’s hard to open your truck when your arms are full. There are times when I am glad that I have the Mag table to sit behind because the crowds can be pretty intimidating at swap meets and I can’t help but think of salmon swimming upstream to spawn as I watch the flow of people up and down the aisles trying to get to that special find or deal before someone else does and it also allows friends to drop by and we catch up on any news there is to share. This swap meet is also one of the first places for area clubs to promote any events that they have coming up later in the year plus drop off flyers and discuss advertising deadlines for the Mag. That also usually comes with a hope that I will come by and participate in their ride or event. I love doing what I do but I always have to remind The Rider’s Mag - Page 43

folks I can only get to so many events in a weekend so please give me lots of notice of when and where your event is taking place. One of the first to drop by was Michel Dupuis from the 2804 Dice Run held in Casselman Ontario a town that is a little over 50 kms. east of Ottawa and this event was the brainchild of a personal friend, Denis Renaud who was

not only a biker but a businessman and councillor for the town and he helped organize the dice run to raise funds for the young people in the army cadets and if you are like most bikers I know we just don’t see enough communities supporting and inspiring our young people to consider a career in the military. Denis was also a strong supporter of The Riders Mag and The Celtic Brotherhood and that silly grin and that skullcap that Bette made for him years ago became a familiar site at many events. Sadly, a couple of years ago, Denis passed away and the town has continued to advertise their event in our Mag but also last year The Celtic Brotherhood put on one of their signature Free Breakfasts in honor of Denis memory and the riders not only enjoyed the breakfast but also got to see Denis being recognized as a biker who gave back to his community. Michel confirmed the memorial breakfast was going to become the 2nd Annual and to see what changes could be made to tweak this event even more. The TCB breakfast was a huge hit with the riders and the cadets and you know I had forgotten how much food teenagers can pack away and the rides end with most of the riders staying around after for pizza donated by a local pizzeria! They took advantage of being able to browse all the vendor booths and take in the entertainment which is a good sign that it was a success. I look forward to participating again and hope that many of you will make the effort to come out for the run and support a town that supports the Mag and the biker community around us so be sure and make note of May 27th on your event calendar. Church, from the Bondslave MC which is

The Rider’s Mag - Page 44

a Christian club stopped by to let me know that their club is going to have their first Freedom Ride this coming May 19th and I will keep you posted on further information on their ride! I would like to add that you can find their advertisement by my column on how to reach the Bondslave MC if you are interested in them. The following day after the Freedom Ride the Burn Out Boys Club are holding their 10th Annual Anniversary Ride & Party which will once again start out at B.A. Machine Performance Cycle and you can find their address also by my column because any business or event that advertises in The Rider Mag that is in Eastern Ontario I make sure it is easily found by my article. In one of my few walkabouts I took some time to stop by the Simple Men MC tables and had a chat with Muffin aka Sean Guest! He mentioned that he will be returning to Voight’s Harley Davidson in Fort McMurray and kindly agreed to send me pictures back of the local riders and their motorcycles! I will post them because our Mag is very popular since I began posting it online years ago to all my friends in clubs out west. I also got to spend some time with Doug Taylor from Freedom Harley Davidson. Big Bird and some of the Ottawa chapter of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse), the Boozefighters MC along with Perry & Genane Montgomery who have started up their own business G.P. Laserworks! Shortly after chatting with them I returned to our tables to rest up, like I said earlier, it really was a big turnout for the event and when I did get back, brother Dave Kuhnle and his wife, Noella had arrived to help out! During that time, we finalized the date for the Ride for Autism which will be July 14th this year and the date for this year’s Awareness Ride for Brain Injury will be June 16th and is expanding to being much more of an event than ride. Sunday we got hit by a snowstorm and while attendance was down from Saturday there were still lots of people who came to shop and at the end of the swap meet, I thanked all the brothers from A.R.M MC for their help. I always tell you to support events that are put on by local clubs in your area because they are the same people who come out to support yours! I have to mention how proud I was about the Greely Motorcycle Swap Meet because shortly before Xmas, Jim Poulin broke his leg badly and while being treated it was discovered that he had a type of blood cancer and would have to start treatments soon. Now in most situations that would have meant an cancellation of

the event because Jim could not be there while preparing for his treatments but he reached out to Blair & Skullz from ARM! They were more than glad to commit to making the meet happen and along with the usual volunteers like Cindy “Brat” Johnson and some of the Bikers Church crew! To the best of my knowledge it all went off without a hitch and Jim couldn’t say thank you enough times to everyone including TCB and the Mag for being there for him. Hoping Jim heals well and heals fast. I want to mention that Perry Montgomery & the Dedicated Few RC have made some changes to the Charity Ride for the Children’s Treatment Centre in Cornwall this year. They have moved the area for the motorcycles from the small parking lot at the back of St. Lawrence College to the front and a much larger and level lot so that there is lots of space for motorcycles to park and their riders to party. Additionally, this year’s ride has been shortened because they are aware that more riders from further away are coming to support their event and they would like more of them to stay and enjoy themselves in the after ride activities! I will be looking forward to seeing many of you there. Sadly this year we are losing a couple of events in the Ottawa area that had become annuals for many of us, one of them being the Capital City Bikers Church Spring Swap Meet which had become to many riders the signal that riding season has officially begun. While this event will be greatly missed, keep in mind that the good folks at CCBC will still be very active in our motorcycle community! They just wanted more time to get out and ride and participate in other club’s events. I think I speak for all the motorcycle community in the National Capital Region when I say we would all like to say a big thank you to Hillbilly & Nelia, Reverend Rob and all the CCBC members for all they do for us and we look forward to supporting whatever they decide to do in the future. The other annual event that was cancelled is the Merrickville Motorcycle Show that usually takes place the end of June! We thank Paul for starting this great event! I must mention that there is a good possibility that the Merrickville show may be picked up and continued under new management and that there will be some new additions to it! Hopefully by the next issue I will be able to give you more information on what is happening with this show. I sadly had to miss the Syracuse Super Swap because, just like clockwork we were hit with a monster snowstorm in this area and especially around Northern New York! I passed on driving down because I am worn out from all those Buffalo clippers and whiteouts on the 81. Keep in mind the Montreal Motorcycle Show is taking place on the 23rd 24th and 25th of February in downtown Montreal at the Palais des Congres. For people in eastern Ontario that did not have the opportunity to get down to the Toronto show to see what is new in motorcycles. This is your chance and I have to say that this show over the years, is developing into more than just a showcase for new motorcycles and now there are clubs setting up information booths and another very popular thing in Quebec are vacation packages to exotic places all over the world! You can fly in and they have motorcycles ready

along with tour guides to see the sites while riding a bike. If you would like more information about it or any of the other events I mention you can go on Facebook and go to “Motorcyco Beau’s Biker Events & Rides In Eastern Ontario” and you can also check out my Facebook group “Motorcyco Beau’s Biker Friendly Businesses in Eastern Ontario” as well. As Always I urge you to support the events and rides that are created by bikers and clubs in your area because unlike slick organizations that run events the local riders and clubs will be the same people that come to support your event. Also please remember to spend your money with businesses such as those that advertise in our Mag or who have proven they are truly Biker-Friendly and have shown their support for our lifestyle and in turn deserve our support and business back. If you have any issue that you think might be of interest to your fellow riders please reach out to me and let me know either by email or on Facebook. If you have an event or ride or you are a business that deals with either motorcycles or the people who ride them you might like to advertize or even perhaps become a distributor of “The Riders Mag” and if so please contact me by email or by phone. As always I want you to please remember that we make our Motorcycle Communities stronger by making them better! email: theridersmag.beau@gmail.com Twitter Riders Mag East @ motorcyco_beau You can also read us online : www.theridersmag.com/ online ...... The Cantors are driving along when they see a wounded skunk. They stop, Mrs. Cantor gets out, picks it up, and brings it into the car. She says, “Look, it’s shivering it must be cold. What should we do?” Mister cantorsay’s, “Put it between your legs.” She replies, “What about the smell?” ”So hold its nose!” A crusty old biker out on a long summer ride in the country pulls up to a tavern in the middle of nowhere, parks his bike and walks inside. As he passes through the swinging doors, he sees a sign hanging over the bar: > COLD BEER: $2.00 > HAMBURGER: $2.25 > CHEESEBURGER: $2.50 > CHICKEN SANDWICH: $3.50 > HAND JOB: $50.00 Checking his wallet to be sure he has the necessary payment, the old biker walks up to the bar and beckons to the exceptionally attractive female bartender who is serving drinks to a couple of sun-wrinkled farmers. She glides down behind the bar to the old biker. “Yes?” she inquires with a wide, knowing smile, “may I help you?” The old biker leans over the bar and whispers, “I was wondering, Miss, are you the one who gives the hand-jobs? She looks into his eyes with that wide smile and purrs “Why yes, yes, I sure am”. The old biker leans closer and into her left ear whispers softly, “Well, you wash your hands real good now, young lady, cause I want a cheeseburger.” “A panda walks into a bar. He asks the bartender how he can get a little action for the night. The bartender motions to a young woman. She talks to the panda, and they go back to her place. After having sex, the panda abruptly leaves. The next night, the woman goes to the panda’s house. “You owe me money,” she says. “For what?” The woman rolls her eyes and explains, “I’m a prostitute.” The panda pulls out a dictionary and looks it up: “Prostitute: Has sex for money.” The panda says, “I don’t have to pay you. I’m a panda. Look it up.” She is about to protest when the panda hands her the dictionary. The woman looks up “panda” in the dictionary, and it reads, “Panda: Eats bush and leaves.” “A doctor and his wife were having a big argument at breakfast. He shouted at her, “You aren’t so good in bed either!” then stormed off to work. By mid-morning, he decided he’d better make amends and called home. “What took you so long to answer?” he asked. “I was in bed,” she replied. “What were you doing in bed this late?” “Getting a second opinion.” “A small boy asks his Dad, “Daddy, what is politics?” Dad says, “Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I’m the breadwinner of the family, so let’s call me Capitalism. Your mom, she’s the administrator of the money, so we’ll call her the Government. We’re here to take care of your needs, so we’ll call you the People. The nanny, we’ll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we’ll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense.” So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. The little boy goes to his parents’ room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father having sex with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, “Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.” The father says, “Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.” The little boy replies, “Well, while Capitalism is screw
