Well it’s shaping up to be an interesting summer. I now have July 8th as the date for my surgery to hopefully put my shoulder back together. While I ‘m looking forward to getting it done, I’m saddened at the prospect of having my riding season brought to a halt especially with so much good stuff going on and so much great weather. But having the function of my left arm returned will be worth it as you really learn to appreciate what you had and how much you used it when it’s gone. I know that it will slow me down a lot and make attending many events impossible and others improbable and exactly how long I’ll be sidelined is yet to be determined. I’ve been told it could be six months before I can return to my job driving truck for Canada Cartage and riding either of my bikes for this year is out of the question. As I mentioned before there are a lot of real great events on the horizon like Baconfest at Hogtown in Lucan that happens the day after my surgery so I’m flat out positive that I won’t be attending that. They have tons of great stuff going on there this year and it’s sure to be a blast and there is sure to be bacon. Bikes by the Bay in Trenton running from July 22 to 24 also sounds like it’s going to be an awesome time with some great bands, camping, Loud Pipes Competitions, Pin up Competitions, Bike Games and all kinds of other good stuff for our readers to take part in and enjoy. Anyway, I will get out to what I can but I know that I’ll be restricted to four wheel transportation and will likely have to ask more of our fine crew of volunteers to provide coverage of all the stuff that is happening. I hope to be well on the mend to get to the new and improved Biketoberfest Canada that is to be held this year at the Welland County Motorcycle Club’s property, Sept 23 -25. This year it is going to be expanded to a three day event with free admission and free camping. There will be lots of vendors and some really great entertainment and more exciting stuff is being added every day. We will keep you informed as this promises to be a great time! Classy Chassis Annual Barbecue Event and 10 year Anniversary Celebration I rode the Trike out on a beautiful sunny day which was a welcome surprise, as right up until I went to bed the night before, my favourite people, the weather forecasters had been promising anything but what I was experiencing.

THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 8

The sky was crystal blue with not a threatening cloud in sight. So with my mistrust, and low opinion for the prognosticators still intact (Please don’t plan your rides on the word of the weatherman. You will miss out on some great riding and some great events!) I made my way through the beautiful countryside to Classy Chassis’ fantastic property in Bridgenorth. The Trike was running like a dream as it floated over the roads and ate up the miles effortlessly. I can still only do short trips as prolonged movement makes my shoulder ache but I’m determined to get as much riding as I can in while I can (while I love the Trike, I really miss Petoonia) The positioning and height of the bars along with the seating position makes it not too uncomfortable and the passive movement as I turn the bars somewhat resembles the

exercises my physiotherapist gave me to do to keep the shoulder from freezing up. I rolled up in front to find several Police officers controlling traffic in and out of the property, which was great as it is a very busy road and with the sheer volume of the expected guests makes it imperative in regards to safety. I was directed onto the property and to a spot among the rows of bikes that

were already formed with throngs of riders milling around them. I was very impressed with the size of the crowd that was already in attendance at this early an hour and I was soon be even more impressed as the day progressed and more and more bikes rolled in filling most if not all of the huge parking lot. The Lovely Charlene came over and I was then directed to park at another spot right beside Classy Chassis trailer and huge canopy at the front if the property. I brought out extra Mags and after they were laid out on the table and I wandered off to check out the event. There were lots of familiar faces and I did a lot of visiting along the way through before running into Owner, Jon Hinan and stopped to talk to him a while. He is among the most enthusiastic and sincere people that I’ve ever met and after talking to him, I could understand how such a business came to be. The only question that remained for me was what future plans he has in the works and how much bigger and better can he make it, as the twinkle in his eyes tells me that he is not finished yet. I had never been to this event so I was already in awe at the size and scope of it and the fact that there was absolutely no admission charge considering all that they offer in an event. I meandered around the well maintained and manicured property and into the various buildings along with the thousand or so other people who were milling around checking out and taking advantage of, all the bargains that they had to offer on merchandise and motorcycles with a large contingency of staff

ready to help them with their purchases or decisions. There were lots of vendors there as well with Parts Canada, EZ UP Centerstands and Hogtunes all demonstrating their products with Hogtunes even offering free installation of any purchases of their great line of audio products specifically designed for motorcycles.

look like an old Black and White Cop car and things really stated to rock. There was a broad mix of people in attendance from the At Our New Inside/Outside Fill Station very young to the very old and everything in between and everybody seemed to be having a great time. But I know that I could never get that drunk and it would definitely have to involve some other substance other than 50 to even be considered to be a remote possibility.

Upon arrival I saw only one food truck onsite and thought “Wow! This could be problematic with the number of people expected.” It did not compute. But alas! Someone should have said “Relax foolish Roving Reporter. This is not our first Rodeo! We know what we are doing! Now relax, wander off and take your pictures and leave this to us! The Professionals!” As it turns out Urban Smoke did an amazing job sating the appetites of the attendees and made short work of long lineups that moved quickly throughout the day serving up some amazing food at reasonable prices. They really had a great set up consisting of the food truck where they took the or-

ders they handled the money and served beverages while the amazing food was prepared on huge grills, put on trays and transferred to the serving areas where the condiments were laid out under canopies for the purchasers to apply themselves. They had this down pat! Classy Chassis once again lived up to the classy part of their moniker by providing skid loads of water that were put on ice and supplied free for the taking to anyone who wanted one. Considering the heat that was one really great and classy thing to do. Then they had crew go around with boxes of free popsicles offering them to anyone who wanted one. They really had the comfort of their guests at heart as there were plenty of canopies to provide shade and lots of picnic tables and other seating. On top of that, they even had real classy porta potties. Jon showed his patriotism and true love of this country by asking all to stand during the playing of the National anthem. It was a fantastic day and they raised money for a great cause the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre that assist the families of our deployed troops, troops returning from deployment and assist in the adjustments necessary to acclimate troops back into society and resume a normal lifestyle after deployment. I had a great time with some great people and topped it off with a ride

back as far as Lindsay with a couple of good friends. Ya Ya and Hillbilly from the Renegades MC who were kind enough to invite me back to their clubhouse and treated me to a cold 50 before continuing on home. It doesn’t get much better or classier than that. Good music, good food, fine entertainment, fantastic weather shared with great people and a great ride coming and going through some very scenic countryside. Who could ask for more? Sometimes you just have to get out there with nothing more than a direction in mind and you find yourself something enjoyable to experience. With a busy schedule and a large workload I don’t get to do that much anymore and I miss it. So it was that after a brief phone conversation with Bad Bob that we decided to meet at Jennie’s Leather in Orangeville as a starting point and then find out what the day held in store for us. I rode over on the Trike and the weather was absolutely perfect. One of those days where you wish the trip would never end and the road would go on forever but I needed to talk to

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 11

the lovely Jennie and check on a couple of things while I waited for Bob to arrive. Jennie has been doing some great custom leather work for a lot of years now and can repair just about anything that is made out of hide. She has some great looking boots at great prices as well as some great clothing lines and motorcycle accessories and a bunch of nostalgic items. Aside from that, she is just a nice lady to talk to.

Surprisingly, I was detoured as I came into town as they had Broadway Ave. Closed to vehicular traffic due to the Bluesfest that was happening throughout Town. When I got to her shop, Jennie explained that they were having a Motorcycle Show and Shine on Mill St. in conjunction with the Blues and Jazz fest. We hadn’t heard anything about it and it certainly wasn’t advertised with us but Bob and I decided to roll on over and check it out. We wandered over and parked our bikes among the many others that lined both sides of the street. There was a good sized crowd and we strolled down the street and found a bar where we sat down for a beer before continuing on to check out the rest of Town. There were food trucks and Street Meat carts galore scattered among other vendors selling everything and anything and lots of people just milling around. The tantalizing aroma of fried onions lured us to a food truck where we indulged in some great tasting burgers and sausages and after we found a spot on a concrete median wall where we could relax and talk and enjoy our meal while taking in the sights and sounds of Blues fest. There were bands setting up all over Town so you had a huge variety of music that had people entertained throughout the day. Until this little tour of town I had no idea that there were so many bars in Orangeville and how great some of them are.

The Show and Shine was being run by The Canada Cruisers Riding Club and was strictly People’s Choice with no Classes other than 1st and 2nd so we pretty well knew the outcome wouldn’t involve us being winners but registered

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 12

anyway just to support the charity and it was only $5.00. Our suspicions were confirmed when a Sportster won out over Custom Baggers and bikes with great paint, chrome and detailing. It wasn’t a serious Show and Shine but it was a fun afternoon and we got to hang out and enjoy some good music, food and beer although I never found a 50. Hogtown Calendar Shoot I love doing these feature shoots as I get to meet so many great people from all over who would otherwise be just voices on the phone. I get to see firsthand, the shops, which otherwise would just be copy in the ads that we sell them. This gives me a chance to gain a whole new perspective on the business I’m involved in and those who are involved in it and hopefully then, give our readers a better perspective of those businesses. We like to think that we offer more than just an ad at The Mag!

I get to hear and then share the stories of what prompted or motivated people to start the businesses in the first place and it gives me a better understanding and respect for the people involved. I feel it lends to a better business relationship as it provides a more personal touch that isn’t filtered through phone lines, computers or sales people. When someone asks me what I think of this advertiser or that one I can now give an honest opinion. I have yet to do a feature on anyone that I don’t feel comfortable with or that I wouldn’t or couldn’t personally endorse. There are some truly great people out there! Hanging out with a couple of great people like Mike and Teresa is always a treat so I had been looking forward to making this trip over to the wilds of Lucan. This is a fantastic store and I know if I allowed myself to wander through this store for too long, my budget would be out the window in a heartbeat. Accompanying me, was ravishing young redhead by the name of Britany who was to be the model for this shoot. She was a great model who could change her look at will and offer a real variety of poses with very

THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 13

little direction which makes my job as photographer easy. But when I put on my editor’s hat it can a real challenge as there wasn’t a bad shot in the bunch and when you’re dealing with over 600 images trying to whittle it down to those we will use can be exhausting. Mike and Teresa were super pumped with their upcoming Bacon Fest that also is a celebration of their Fourth year in business. They have made big plans and added some pretty amazing stuff to the event and there will be bacon. Asylum Ink

I was glad to hear that Asylum Ink wanted to do this feature as I really wanted to get to meet the owner/tattoo artist Ian Aida. I had been going in there for years to deliver the Mags

THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 14

but due to having a whole bunch of things on the go and no real time to stop and most times Ian was busy tattooing so our interaction was a quick wave and a smile and I was gone. What caught my attention was the fact that taped to the underside of the glass countertop was a collection of my cartoons that someone I had never met had taken the time to cut out and make a display of them. That is to me, a great compliment and each time I went in there it just made me feel good. Now I finally got to ask who I owed a thank you to. It turns out it was Ian himself which to me is an even bigger compliment. It turns out he still has them all but the recent renovations didn’t include that glass display case. Years back, I had another really good friend, Bowmanville Bad Bob who had just retired from Goodyear in Bowmanville and he offered to start delivering the Mags out that way. I set him up a run which included Asylum Ink. Bob had managed to go through seventy years of life without a single tattoo but then, within a few Months of delivering the Mags and going into Ian’s store, he started coming back with Eagles and stuff adorning his arms. He blamed me for putting the influence in his path and he figured I should be paying him more to cover the expense of tattoo’s. I wanted to tell Ian not to let him into his shop or at least not let him look at anything! Bacchus Annual Show and Shine This is always a great event and gets a tremendous turnout rain or shine. Last year it was rain but this time came the shine and everyone I spoke to definitely preferred this year’s weather over last, although it was a tad breezy. I rolled on down the street noting that the usual strong Police presence that usually takes up a position at the top of the street to harass attendees was non-existent. That in itself was an unexpected treat. I stopped at the registration table, entered the trike and was directed into a parking spot where I laid out some Mags atop the box (I forgot the magazine rack, of which there are several lined up not three feet from where I park the trike back at the shop, so I can’t possibly not see them.) swapped out my helmet for

my hat and slung my trusty Nikon around my neck and wandered off as Roving Reporters are wont to do. The street was already lined on both sides of the street with motorcycles and crowds of people made up of not just bikers but neighbours who not only come out and take part in this event but support it by not parking their cars there all day. There is a mutual respect that has existed for years and belies the Police Propaganda that they try to shove down the public’s throat about Motorcycle Clubs being a huge threat to society. Anyhow, the street was full, the barbecues were going full bore and it was shaping up to be a great day. I wandered off to find Bad Bob already there and munching on one of the great burgers that they were serving and we took off together to check things out. There were some really great looking bikes and a whole lot of great people to talk to along the way as well as vendors like Lois from Mid USA who had some really cool stuff and Lisa Hill Leathers who always has some great leather, clothing and accessories displayed at her booth. I was happy to see David Smye ride in on one of his great looking bikes that are proudly displayed each month on the back cover of The Mag. David has also started to contribute some articles to The Mag and we look forward to his contributions as his years of experience in Law can be invaluable to our readers. There is an ebb and flow to the crowds here as riders come and go throughout the day. Most stay for the whole event while others roll in, have a burger and a pop, check things out, visit a while, then continue on their ride. Much like Pastor Ken from Hamilton Bikers Church who stopped by for a visit. The Club gets huge respect and support from the motorcycle community with some riders traveling great distance to attend. I was happy to see Guardrail and other members of the Queensmen MC in from Windsor and I know there were several Chapters of Bac-

chus from all across the Province and The East Coast out to support this great event. The day flew by and it was time for the Awards portion of the day. We all gathered as Ray with his usual great sense of humour announced the winners of the Show and Shine and door prizes. This year I took better care of the list of winners and they are as follows; Big Twin Stock – 1st. –Laura A, 2nd – Joe Smith, Big Twin Custom – 1st – Paul Hyde, 2nd – Shane Lepp, Full Custom 1st – Blair Archer, 2nd –Rob Lupton, Vintage Stock – 1st – Mainer, 2nd – Jamie, Vintage Custom – 1st Carol, 2nd – Jessien, Non H-D Custom – 1st – Jeff Hoover, 2nd - Darlene Jackson, Non H-D Stock – 1st – Mark K, 2nd – Dale, Sportster Stock – 1st – Larry Hill, Sportster Custom – 1st Dino, 2nd – Sue Ruggy, H-D Touring Stock 1st – Bad Bob, 2nd - Neil Raymond H-D Touring Custom – 1st – Jim MicKaskill, 2nd – Critter, People’s Choice - Darlene Jackson Thanks for a great day! See you again next year!

Mario’s Bake Shop Ride Night Bad Bob and I decided to stop in Nobleton and check out the Ride Night at Mario’s Bake Shop. It is actually a combination of cars and bikes that gather in the large parking lot and can be quite a spectacle as there are some great examples of both there, This is a fairly new event and has yet to rise to its full potential but turnouts are respectful and showing constant growth and the lot here is large enough to accommodate whatever shows up. There were some great looking vintage cars and trucks lined up along with motorcycles and they were all attracting a lot of attention from

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 16

passersby as owners compared notes and critiqued each other’s pride and joys. You have to appreciate the time and effort let alone the money it takes to restore and maintain these beauties. I hadn’t been here before although I’d heard that the food was incredible so I wandered into the Bake Shop and the aroma of all those great looking baked goods and Italian food in the hot table had me salivating and beaconed me to indulge myself. I resisted somewhat and did my best to limit myself to the espresso that I came in for but broke down when I saw the pastries but I managed to hold myself back to only one. I took my purchase outside so as to get myself out of temptation and enjoyed my espresso and my pastry out at the tables in front of the store. The pastry was all that it promised to be when I spotted it on the rack, light and flakey with the flavour of that great apple filling exploding in my mouth and it tasted just like another one but my waistline has been expanding lately and I resisted the urge to indulge further. I wandered amongst the sea of shiny chrome and paint awhile longer before spotting one of my favourite cars, a 1961 Chevrolet Impala. I owned one of them back in the 60’s and absolutely loved it. Mine was black and it broke my heart when I sold it out in Vancouver. I promised myself that one day I would get another one day and when I saw this one I fell in love all over again. I had to leave a bit early as I still had stuff to get done that night. More cars and more bikes were coming in as I left. Mario is a great guy and this has the potential to catch on big time so drop in one Sunday evening and check it out. But do yourselves a favour. Don’t eat before you go. The food and the baked goods alone are worth the ride or drive to get there. In fact if you like great food and baked goods, anytime is a good time to go to Mario’s Bake Shop.

Does anyone out west have a spare arc? Well, here it is…the July Issue and even though I said in the last Issue “spring is here” we are still waiting for some good riding weather out here in the East. I haven’t met a single rider in N.B. that has had dry leathers for more than a day since the first of June! Hopefully it’s coming soon! First off, I found out as the Boss and I were trying to make reservations in Fredricton for the 13 Crew Meet and Greet that it was cancelled. As I don’t print rumours we will leave it as “cancelled for unforeseen reasons”. Better luck next time Guys. Meanwhile, up in the north end of the Province, The Boss and I had another great reception at The Darksiders Clubhouse in Bathurst. We stopped in, dropped off some Mags, and had a few pints and shot the shit about their future projects. No doubt we will hear more from these Brothers and their events during the summer (if summer actually comes!)

Turning south I learned that one of my delivery stops called “Cousins” is changing location a couple of blocks away to a waterfront location along Hwy. 134 in Buctouche, and renaming to the “Daquiri Beach”. This location is right on a very popular bike run and is Biker friendly, be sure to check it out! (reopening the first of July) Dodging the now on and off rain, The Boss and I headed north and stumbled onto a magnificent ride at the 126 Lounge in Rogersville. We got a chance to take some pics and talk to the owner of this fine machine, Kevin Trites from Moncton. During our chat I learned that Kevin is affiliated with two companies in Moncton, Bowtie Inc. and Capone’s Customs , who were responsible for most of this build. At the time of this pic the project was out for it’s maiden voyage, only to get caught up in a rainstorm coming in from

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 17

the north.(surprise…more soggy leathers) With both of us trying to dodge the rain, him the south, me to the north, we parted ways, but I hope we will get together shortly, in better weather to rap about his future

projects. Also I missed A hell of a party down south of Halifax welcoming back “81” but on T.V. a few hours later the R.C.M.P. and the local T.V. stations seamed to give a twisted view of a harmless welcome home party. Sure am gland to see that they (R.C.M.P.) are protecting the rights of Bikers? Well what other club gets this kind of free publicity. The Bikers were second only to the Queen’s Birthday party! Meanwhile, Arlene (representing the Bikers Down Society) in Cape Breton contacted us with what they are up to. The Boss and I met Arlene and party at th W.R.R. in Digby last year spending most evenings with all of us on the front steps of the resort that we all were staying at enjoying smokes and beverages. I know she can express her Clubs endeavours much better than me , so in her words: BIKERS HELPING BIKERS Motorcyclists are legendary for their generosity through the countless fundraisers and charity rides they support. In 2008, a group of Halifax area bikers led by Jimi Swinamer, Marlene Roach and the late Pam Vickery, realized that it was time to start helping other bikers and were inspired to start a non-profit society that would do just that — help bikers in their time of need! The Bikers Down Society- Toad Memorial was created in memory of Mike ‘Toad” Roach, a legendary Dartmouth bike builder and enthusiast. The Cape Breton chapter was established in 2013 and includes Michelle McGivor, Chair, Arlene Whiffen, Co-Chair and Secretary, Dale Richardson, Treasurer, Dianna Kott, Fundraising and Joe Blanchard, Events Coordinator. Injured bikers who require assistance can apply to the society for help. We provide assistance to motorcycle enthusiasts of all ages, all makes and all clubs. This help comes in many different forms, from moral and financial support to building ramps and hospital visits. Funds are raised through a variety of events, including BBQ’s, selling support gear at the Cape Breton Bike Rally as well as the “Ride to Remember” which was held June 5th in Sydney. Donations raised at this event go directly to families whose loved one passed away in a motorcycle accident. Bikers Down Society also focuses on raising awareness for motorcycle safety through its “Look Twice Save A Life” campaign. They are advocates not only of rider safety for bikers, but of education for other drivers on the road to be more aware of motorcycles. If you’re looking for a way to get involved, the Society is always looking for volunteers and donations for their many fundraising and awareness events. A special thank you to Michael Pace of Sydco Fuels for allowing us to use his parking lot on George Street where many of our events take place. For more information including our assistance application, visit us at www.bikersdown. com or check out our facebook page! Bikers Down is here to help – You are not alone! Arlene “Tookie” Whiffen, Biker Down Society – Cape Breton Best of luck to Bikers Down and hope to meet up with you at the Cape Breton Bike Rally on the 29th of July ‘til Aug. 1. Until next time, RIDE SAFE! Atlantic Jeff signing off . theridersmag_atlantic@ yahoo.ca

Hi, it’s PEI Billy. It’s now May and I have had a rough April. I have been pretty sick and still can’t talk. I missed the deadline for the May issue, so it will be in the June issue now. Anyway, May is so far turning out ok. Paul Campbell, a friend of mine, has a bike I have wanted for 3 or 4 years now and he finally sold it to me. It’s a 1994 road king F.L.H.R. What a bike! That makes me feel a little bit better at least. Here is going to be a poker run Saturday May 14th starting at 10 am at the Kensington Lions Club for the people of Fort Mac. To help with the fire. We have a lot of people from the island working and living there. Our hearts and souls go out to them at their time of need. God Bless you my friends. I’ll be there to take pictures of the ride and the after party. Although I can’t speak yet, I can still write about it. So here we go, it’s May 14th, 7 am and I am on my way. Riders mags in my saddle bags for the poker run I got to Kensington around 9am, dropped off the mags, and registered and donated to the cause. I talked to the people who were running the show. I picked a card and took some shots of those people who were just great at what they do. I arrived at the second stop which was North Rustic Lions Club. What a bunch of good people they were. I got another card and waited for all the bikes to catch up with me. We had a nice talk about the good things the Lions Club has done for the people of Fort Mac and got on our way to the third stop, which was at Kinkora Fire Hall. That’s when the rain came, and man did it pour. We were soaking wet in no time. I left the fire hall with about 20 other bikes but when I got there, there was only 4 of us there. I picked another card, said “see ya!” and left looking like a drowned rat. I was closer to my house than Kensington Lions Club so I just went home. No sense in getting sick again. I had a good time over all. The next thing on my

list is the Dying Breeds party on May 21st. Here I am, back on the road with my new ride and I am heading to Summerside. I heard from Ron, a friend of mine, that the Villians were asking about me because I haven’t been around. I landed there with the Road King and told them what I have been up to. (I will tell you all about it next time!) The dying breeds throw a great party complete with food, drink and a great live one man band. I talked to Dillion to see what I could take pictures of and he said talk to Mike. So I did, and went on my way. After that I went back and Mike asked me if I wanted anything from the table that was full of food. I said I would but I can’t swallow. I have a situation I have to deal with, with the help of my doctors. So with that, I left with Caitlin and some others to go back to the Villians club house. Caitlin went to school with my daughter, Jennifer. Well, that is all for now… I’ll say goodbye for now and I’ll tell you about what is happening later! PEI Billy

One for the road

One ride that I eagerly look forward to each year is the Highway of Heroes Ride. And this year’s event did not disappoint. The HHR Ride came and was an impressive event! This year, they ended it in Port Hope instead of Whitby like last year, and I gotta say, it was a great choice. When we arrived, the bikes were rolling in and to see that many, to ride with that many, will give you goose bumps for sure. There easily had to be at least 3000 riders (by estimation) and it was organized quite well. Congrats to Lou and everyone involved on that venture as surely it was not an easy task. I made my way over to introduce myself to Lou, and let him know that I also had a good friend of mine (our very own resident celebrity lately) Derek Andrews, who would be helping me in taking pics for this event. We had two events to cover this day, so I made sure

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 20

…..with Lil Red

we had cameras at both events. We needed to capture the heartwarming support that I hope our veterans felt in seeing all these riders show up for them. A huge honour. A friend of the Mag that I’ve mentioned before, helped me with taking pics of the event as it was far too large for one person. With riding in it, I also approached Brad Denoon, an excellent local photographer that takes some really exceptional pics and he does so much for the charity community, from the HHR to pet charities, Brad takes pictures that I just don’t see and allows me to use some from time to time to bring awareness to the great causes.. to see more of these pics, check out his facebook page at Photography by Brad Denoon. You might even see a pic of you on your ride you never knew was taken! One of the best moments I can truly take from the HHR, was the one with our very own Derek, riding his motorcycle in a full salute! It truly is a remarkable and touching photo and I really hope that it’s circulated as it is the epitome of what this ride is all about. Riding to Port Hope, you would see Veterans

standing at guard which really pulled at the heart strings. And to see the bridges lined with firetrucks, flags and people…wow the people, was really awe-inspiring. Even the Mayor was there, and he spoke to many of the riders, showing his support. At both locations, there were the HHR trucks, as well as the large soldier banner than I’ve seen in Hamilton many, many years ago at the Military Tattoo. All-Ways Apsley Rendezvous was having its 2nd annual event, and when we got there, we’d noticed riders there from as far away as Ohio and Quebec! We were invited to attend this year, and found the event to be much larger than we originally expected. (And by the way, the roads out there were fantastic! I mean, MILES of winding roads with a spectacular view.) Amber (she was big in the organizing process) met up with us upon our arrival and explained all the events, prizes and that there was a bbq and concession stand for us to take advantage of. They had vendors, a tug of war (which can I say, I hijacked and ended up on my ass). So word of warning, you ever need the ability of someone with significant upper body strength, pass me by as I’m sure a wet pa-

per towel would give me a run for my money! A group of women (with a couple of Kawartha Charity Riders mixed in) matched up against five guys that won the earlier event, and the women won the Tug of War, which was one of the events sponsored by the Riders Mag. We caught up to our friends Glenn and Wendy, but not for long as we had gotten there later and they were there earlier (and they had a bit of a ride back home). It was still nice to catch up. The Kawartha Charity Riders were there and they won for Best Represented Club. And after speaking with one of the guys, I found out they’ve helped raise at least $90,000 towards charity. At the awards, The Mag sponsored the Best in Show, which was won by Rodney Hillson and his pretty little beast of a 2015 Harley Breakout. Blue and customized, this beauty also won Best Cruiser. Ronnie Hunt, who won for the Sportster category, also took home the award for winning the Plank ride. After the awards were all given out, the Kawartha Charity Riders led a really great 1 hour guided loop ride of Hwy 620 to Hwy 504. As weekends become a blur, we had two events to

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 21

hit on the 28th. Classy Chassis’ 10th Anniversary BBQ and The Rednecks Poker Run. So we polished up the babies and hit the road, stopping for breakfast at PJ’s in Peterborough, of course. After breakfast the sun was already intense and the temp was rising faster then my odometer so we decided to pack away the jackets for a bit. We were in a bit of a rush as I wanted to get there for the Blues Brothers Tribute Band. Pulling into the lot to park, we made our way to the sales room as Mike’s still waiting for that beautiful Indian Motorcycle that’s calling his name. So while he’s looking around, I notice Critter’s trike.. then the Man himself. Mike joined Critter and I during our catching up, Critter asked me about the Redn e c k s Poker Run. Well we were trying to hit both, so we packed o u rs e l ve s up knowing that this anniversary event was in the very capable hands of Critter, and we headed to the Rednecks Poker Run back north of Belleville. It was a beautiful ride back and I can prove it with the

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 22

sunburn I’ve acquired, I look like I just walked outta hell itself, Mike, of course, tanned as brown as his jacket…….. When we reached the place where the Poker Run finished up, we pulled in just ahead of when all the riders were coming back. There was a really cool barn there, with a one man band that was excellent. We parked our rides and was met by a number of the Rednecks, offering beverages and burgers. The man behind the bbq, who introduced himself as Herb, called for Red. I walked over to him to take a couple of pictures and ask a little more about the event. This not being their first run, they had a good turnout. However, I think the heat may have hindered their count a little. Now that the poker run part is done, there’s still 50/50 and of course the BBQ and the band. So it should be a fantastic afternoon (just find the shade!)

It wasn’t long after that the floodgates of riders arrived. It was kinda cool to watch all these bikes run along the gravel driveway, beside the barn. I grabbed my camera and snapped what I could. We were invited by Herb and Rick to grab a seat in the shade, and there we spoke with our friends Derek and Rob, and a few boys from the Rednecks. Real good group of people, so I was all for supporting this Poker Run and will do so again next year and will encourage you to do the same. Quinte Ride for Paws Poker Run The day arrived and turned out to be a chilly, windy one at that. Tam (the organizer and a HUGE animal supporter) has been stressing over it. We had been meeting here and there to help her with the planning, but I gotta say, when we got there, it looked well under way. After letting Tam and Derek know we were there, we promptly registered (and I ask….”how do you play poker?” Of course, Mike looked at me with his typical ‘oh dear… good thing you’re cute’ look, and said, ‘just collect your cards, they’ll check them for you.’ Everytime I looked around, there was someone else we knew. Frenchie had his table set up and looked like it was doing well, and STP Airbrush was there with a wicked look-

ing bike on display. Our very own Harold from Make it Roar was there also, and he’s always been a big supporter of the event. As we looked around the parking lot, there were at least 200 bikes there, and everyone was checking out everyone else’s ride. We were on the hunt for a very special lady named Sue, as she had asked to ride with Mike on the poker run as she had no ride of her own. I came to know later, that this Gem had rescued a large number of animals and she never forgot one. John was there in full support with his Brother-

hood of Bikers Crew, along with new member Pops! Aka Rob. He’s the fella that I had my pic with at the motorcycle show with Paul Jr! The Brotherhood has their event coming up, I’ll get into that later on. It was nice to see Herb and Rick and some of the other Redneck MC guys again. It says a lot about these guys, when they’re at all the local charity events. There were a few other MC represented, the Lone Riders, the Keepers, a few Red Knights. There were some service dogs there in support, and did I mention FOOD! But first, the poker run…then the food. (sigh) As we embarked (get it..barked…ok I’ll stop) on our journey, both of us realized that we had absolutely no idea where we were going. No clue as to the location of each card. They told us in the parking lot, but I was taking pictures and talking to people there, so we decided to follow the others and hope for the best. There were 4 stops in total, and the riders received a huge welcome at the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre. This haven for animals does so much to care for these creatures, and being nonprofit, relies on donations and volunteers. So we all clogged the

parking lot, jumping at the treat table (and I gotta say, seeing a big burly guy shoving a cupcake or cookie into his mouth with that child-like grin of “I got a cookie’ is absolutely priceless. That would make a great commercial!!! After collecting all of our cards and making our way back, the wind picked up and I hoped that it wouldn’t deter people from finishing the ride. True to form, Tam and Derek (and their countless volunteers) had everything ready for the bbq at hand. And the women behind the bbq table (one being Tam’s Mom!) were not shy at handing out the

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 23

occasional double burger. Onto the door prizes and the 50/50. I will admit, I was getting a bit loud at draw time, we had met up with new friends there and with so many other existing around, I was having fun. When they drew my number for a door prize, I had no idea what I won but I took off up there like a shot… you’d think they called my name on “The Price is Right!” With plenty of room and support from folks in the neighbourhood, I’d say it was a huge success. Now in Au-

gust is their really big Ride, The Ride for Paws. This one is out of the Trenton City Hall Parking lot with more vendors, door prizes and such, and FOOD! Plus, the ride route they chose last year was stellar so hopefully it’ll be along those same roads. I recently met up with a few lady riders one Friday evening. It just so happened that a couple of them are with the WindSisters. There was Terry (finally able to put a face to the name), Kate, Ellen, and Kim. The girls created a route and would meet each one at a location close to their place, so at some point we’d all ride together. I met up with them when they came into Campbellford. After a brief intro and chat, (I noticed on Terry’s bike, a piece of paper attached to her tank but didn’t dare ask as

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 24

we had just met!) it was then onto Ellen in Tweed. (who I may add, is a whole lotta energy in a chick package). Of course, we realized that none of us really knew where we were going, so we entrusted this firecracker Ellen to lead the way to Trenton for a quick meet n greet and then off to dinner with our men. As we were parking the bikes, a van showed up, staring us down. Then he proceeded to reverse and came far too close to hitting my ride. All the girls yelled for him to stop. SO he got outta his van, and explained that the cops were looking for someone on a Harley. We explained it was just us girls (but I got the feeling he was a tad bit intimidated by the group) and he said thanks and left. All that was left for us was to laugh. What the hell was that??? I’ll be honest, I am not one to consider drinking and riding, and the other girls happened to feel the same, so decided to make it a quick stop as we were all hungry and were going to dinner with the guys. We decided to leave, and headed out to the Smokehouse in Brighton. Along Hwy 2 in Trenton, I turned to Terry to ask if she knew where she was going, and her response was a hysterical ‘Nope.’ After making an abrupt left turn when she caught sight of the bar, we headed in to meet the fellas that were al-

ready there. During dinner, Terry pulled out this same piece of paper I noticed on her tank earlier. It was directions! Well that was a laugh….no GSP…paper directions! Lol She then turned to her husband Matt and said, ‘Hunny, all my new friends have bigger bikes then me.’ Which again, made the entire table chuckle. So Matt…what’s the verdict? I’m sure we girls can help her find a larger ride…. unsupervised! It turned out to be a really great group of girls, and I’ll say this, they now meet in Trenton on Wednesday nights for a ladies ride. Anyone is welcome. You wanna laugh, this will be the place to start. (Just make sure you bring caution tape, as Ellen might need it at any point in your travels.) I’ll let her explain THAT one. You’re a good sport Lady. The Brotherhood of Bikers Show N Shine is coming up on July 3rd at the Trenton A&W. It’s in support of the Fear Nothing Mental Health Foundation (please follow them on their facebook page). There will be food (hey, it’s even at A&W..whats better?!), a show n shine so clean up your damn ride already, a 50/50 draw and prizes. Former NHL Heavyweight Shawn Antoski will be there to meet n greet and share some stories. This great group of guys are so helpful to other riders and local charities, and they’re always up for a good laugh.

This month’s report from this Northern Guy is written as I sit here on the shores of beautiful Meldrum Bay on Manitoulin Island. What a serene quiet location at this time of year being that this is Saturday evening and there’s not a single soul in sight. After a splendid ride through some of Canada’s most beautiful countryside, I ended up here to relax and be inspired plus hopefully share with you some of the beauty that this area has to offer. This has me thinking of doing a similar trip out somewhere on a monthly basis to various locations throughout our beautiful part of Northern Ontario to jot down a few words while visiting. Thank you Manitoulin Island for providing such awesome riding roads, as well as some of the most scenic beauty anywhere. The last issue of the Rider’s Mag had me start our very own Northern Ontario Biker Friendly White List which is composed of biker friendly establishments that cater to our lifestyle which we all share to some extent. This month’s nominees in no particular order would have to be the Fireside Classic Grill in Elliot Lake, Buzzy Brown’s Eatery in Sudbury’s South end, and Verner’s Co-Op Gas Bar on Hyw.17. These are just three more of the many biker friendly places that I’ve visited in the recent past and have left an impression. Should you want to nominate a location for me to add to this list, feel free to let me know via my contact at the end of this report. Friday the 13th/16, Port Dover This past month, the weather has brought us a welcome change as we’ve seen temperatures climb as high as the high twenties not quite reaching the thirties yet but

a very good indication that summer is well on its way. It’s very comfortable outside while watching the street sweepers finish off the last of the roads as the itch to get out there and just ride has me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for all these wonderful events to take place. Just like Port Dover was this past Friday the 13th had me go south to participate in the festivities

and meeting up with some great friends and family such as Rob and Barb along with Carson and Cass to which we spent most of the day with as well as others like John and Maria who took time away from their party of 14+ people to come over and say hi. We sure are looking forward to the day we can all get together for more than a few minutes and spend a good time enjoying each other’s company. Friday the 13th in beautiful Port Dover is always a good time to attend as there is always something to do and see such as my good friend Alain Delarosbil from Great Spirit Jewelry, who is a master at creating a variety of

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 25

custom beautiful rings & jewelry for people of all nature. You can find his creations on Facebook under his name. Be sure to check it out! Got to mention that the beer was cold whether we were at the beer tent or at one of the many establishments we visited throughout the day. The bit of spitting that Mother Nature did on us did not managed to dampen our spirits. I didn’t see as many bikes as I would have liked to see as the last time I attended Friday the 13th in Port Dover, there were a plenty but it was still a great time had by all. For some reason, events like this one always bring a smile to my face as I feel like a kid at Christmas seeing all these awesome machines some being as vintage as their owners and some being works of art that even the wildest imagination would have to work overtime to create such beauties. As mentioned previously, the opening of my own custom shop is still a go although no firm date has been scheduled, as well as a northern rally that I hope to have most of the details hammered out very shortly. I will keep you posted. The Elliot Lake Motorcycle Rally Speaking of Northern Ontario Rallies, the 5th Annual Elliot Lake Motorcycle Rally was held on June 4th and without a doubt, was as expected bigger and better with many more riders and participants taking part of this year’s activities. Over 200 motorcycles from all over Northern Ontario took time to attend. Mark Hutchinson of Hutchinson Motorcycle with the assistance of the Fireside Classic Grill have surpassed everyone’s expectations and put on quite a show geared to the whole family. Plenty of food and drink to various activities to keep everyone entertained. Live music and beer garden were new to this year’s event and were certainly a welcomed addition. Refreshment from our very own Stack Brewery out of Sudbury with their Sudbury Saturday Night draught beer was as refreshing as the northern breeze itself. As well as support from various motorcycle clubs and riding groups such as in no particular order, The

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 26

RedRum First Nation, the Keswick Red Devils from Sudbury, the Independent Motorcycle Corporation (IMC) as well as various others, just as important, clubs to which on behalf of the Elliot Lake Motorcycle Rally, we would like to extend to all a big thank you for your support. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. The morning started out with a great ride out to beautiful Elliot Lake to where once I found a spot to park amongst the many bikes already there where my great friend Mark came out to greet me and made me feel the most welcome. As always it was great to see him smiling and being stress free as the events unrolled only to have me believe that he had put the extra effort as he always does in ev-

erything but particularly in organizing this rally to which was already being a success. I actually had the opportunity to see something out of the ordinary that morning, it was DK’s very own creation with Mark’s help called the Strato-Glide that had been freshly washed. Something that is rarely seen because it only happens once a year if we’re lucky as DK’s ambition is to ride it not to wash it! It actually looked pretty good! Good job! Being that it’s been just over one year and with Mark’s continuing dedication towards the magazine, The Rider’s Mag has been well received and gained popularity within and around the community of Elliot Lake. The friendly faces that came out and said hello was a heartfelt welcome…. Thank you! This event is well on its way to becoming one of Northern Ontario’s biggest and best motorcycle themed event. Vendors as well as various displays like the North Shore Cruisers were present with a variety of fine rebuilt/ restored trucks and cars on display for all to admire. Other activities such as face painting and designer balloons for the kids were also on hand to entertain the public. It’s refreshing to see that on occasion, one gets to see the outcome of a fundraiser and the difference that everyone makes in participating. Take last August for instance, you might remember I reported on a fundraiser in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island called the Cannonball Run in re-

gards to help out a great friend get back on his scoot after health issues prevented him from riding two wheels well at this event, Ted Culgin was in better form riding in and out on his, new to him, green & black trike that he managed to acquire with help from some friends. My good friend Roadz played an important role in the fundraiser last year that lead to this great occasion. Thanks to

help from people like Randy, Mark and anyone else that headlines a fundraiser event, we can all make a difference by participating and helping out. It was great to see you again Ted. Keep your spirit up and Ride On! Another mention I have to make is in regards to a young lad by the name of Sam. He was showing a tremendous passion for the bikes as well as the lifestyle discussing with me which bikes he loved the best and what parts he would change to make them more to his liking. This shows me that the lifestyle and creating of the sport is alive and well not only in older generations but in younger hearts as well. Keep up that great passion Sam and we’ll definitely see you down the road soon enough…Cheers buddy! Coming back to the rally itself, I must add that The Fireside Grill, which by the way is a Northern Ontario Biker Friendly establishment as well as being on the NOBFWL (Northern Ontario Biker Friendly White List) for this month. They even have signs on the building designating certain parking spots just for motorcycle to which are rarely seen here in the north but are gaining popularity and hoping that one day will be as common as No parking signs are….Thanks Fireside Grill for being such awesome hosts! I raise my glass to you! In conclusion, let just say that if you missed out on coming out to this great rally, you did exactly that…”You Missed Out!” Be sure to be more attentive for next year’s event of the Elliot Lake Motorcycle Rally as it promises to be bigger and better. Like and share their page on Facebook to stay currant of all functions. Don’t miss out again! Thanks Mark and to your group of volunteers for doing such a great job with this event. I for one am looking forward to next year’s! A few weeks ago on June 2nd/16, the City of Sudbury had their annual Blessing of the Bikes with a dozen or so bikes that could make it out on that Thursday morning where a proclamation was heard dedicating the month of June as prostate cancer month. 27th Ontario HOG Rally th This July 28 – 30th/16, the Rock Harley Davidson in Sudbury will be hosting the 27th Annual Ontario HOG Rally with a great variety of events to be held. Save the date and plan to attend as there is promise of something for everyone. From the information provided, there is talk of a Las Vegas theme night at the Caruso Club complete with dinner and all the trimmings. Then Saturday morning following a parade

at 10am over the Bridge of Nations heading to Bell Park where a full day of activities including live music with Crystal Shawanda and the Blues Brothers just to name a few. Can’t forget the Foreigner tribute band that will be entertaining us well into the evening. Plan on being there and don’t miss it! Rocking on the River During the Elliot Lake rally, I had the pleasure of seeing my good friend Guy Serre whom is an organizer for the Rocking on the River event. The amount of energy that this guy possesses is a sure sign that this event will be one not to be missed on July 30th & 31st! A great motorcycle show as well as awesome music line up promises a great time to be had by all. Save the date and be there! Now back to the shop I go to set up and clean-out as those of you who know the location that I purchased showed a lot of potential but needs much TLC to get going…I leave you this month with a quote from a reader: ”May your mistakes be a life lesson and not a life sentence.” Ride safe out there and hope to see you out and about! DRIVING DIRTY This column is about how to ruin your life. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but isn’t that what lawyers are for? There are a lot of ways to ruin your life ranging from addiction down to being a Leafs fan. Up near the serious end of that spectrum is driving or riding without insurance. There are 3 things to remember about driving without insurance: 1. The consequences can be devastating; 2. It can happen without intending to; 3. Don`t Do It! What are the consequences? This can vary depending on who is doing it and the circumstances. Remember, it is not just the driver who is affected. It can be passengers and the vehicle owner as well. Here is a list, hope I have caught them all: 1. If you are the owner or lessee of a vehicle driving without insurance, you are subject to a $5,000.00 fine. This could be is the least of your problems; 2.If you are at fault for an accident which causes property damage or injury to any person you will be personally liable for those damages. It could be several thousand dollars for property damage or it could be millions for severe injuries. Under Ontario legislation, you cannot even escape this liability by going bankrupt, although a recent a Supreme Court of Canada decision regarding 407 ETR debts indicates that the legislation is probably not valid.

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 28

3.If you are the owner or lessee of a uninsured vehicle you will be personally liable for any damage caused a person who is in possession of that vehicle with your consent, even if you were not in or near the vehicle. 4.If you are injured in a road accident caused by the fault of another driver, you cannot recover any compensation from the other owner or driver’s insurance for your injuries. Even if you can never work again you will be entitled to no compensation for your income loss. Even if you need a lifetime of medical/rehabilitation care you will be limited to no fault benefits if any are available. These may not be enough to provide for your care. This can happen (I have one such case right now) and it is devastating. Fortunately, this rule applies only to the owner or lessee driving his or her own vehicle without insurance. 5.No fault benefits, if available will be limited to medical and attendant care needs only. No income loss benefits will be available. How can you end up driving dirty? Obviously if you do not take out a policy on your vehicle it will be uninsured. But there are many other ways in which you can end up with no insurance coverage: 1. Failure to register a new vehicle on your policy within 14 days after purchase; 2. Failure to pay your premiums. Most of us pay premiums on a monthly basis through a pre-authorized payment plan. If for any reason a payment is missed, the

insurer can cancel the policy giving 15 days notice in writing sent by registered mail. Who picks up their registered mail? Right. Now you are driving without insurance. Check your bank and pick up your registered mail. 3. Your insurer refuses to renew your policy, perhaps due to poor driving records. Again, the insurer sends notice by registered mail. It is up to you to pick it up. 4. Misrepresentation on our application. Your insurance company can deny coverage if you fail to disclose at fault accidents, convictions for driving offences, or if you misrepresent risk factors related to your coverage such as where you live, the amount or type of driving that you do (such as driving to work), who will be driving the vehicle and other information which is requested when you apply for insurance. Under the policy, the insurer can also deny coverage if you fail to disclose any important changes to the information you provided to the insurance company at the time you applied for insurance. This also includes vehicle modifications. Since we as motorcyclist love to make performance enhancements to our vehicle, we are required to disclose this to our insurance company and you could risk of loss of coverage if modifications are made and not disclosed. 1. Excluded driver. Often a member of the household would be listed as an excluded driver on a policy in order to save the premium cost for that person to drive. This is usually the case with a high risk driver such as someone aged under 25 or with bad driving record. If that person drives your vehicle, both the vehicle and the driver are uninsured. You as owner will be become liable for any resulting damages unless you can prove the vehicle was taken without your consent. 2.Taking vehicle without consent. Anyone who takes possession of a vehicle without the owner’s consent is not insured when driving that vehicle. The same applies to any passenger i.e. who knows or ought to know that the driver does not have consent. A joy riding passenger may have no way to recover compensation for his or her injuries other than reduced no-fault benefits. 3. Violating licence conditions. For example a G1 or G2 driver with alcohol in their blood stream, without a G driver accompanying them or on the highway are in violation of licence conditions is uninsured. 4. Driving without a licence or with licence under suspension. This can easily occur if your licence expires and you forget to renew, or if you are suspended for failure to pay a ticket. Again, the notice of suspension is sent by mail. 5. Change of address. If you file to notify the ministry of transport or your insurer of your change of address then you will not receive the notices that you need to know that you could have a problem with your insurance. 6. Violation of statutory conditions: every insurance policy has a number of statutory conditions which include prohibitions against racing, allowing an unlicensed driver to drive, committing criminal

offense (such as over 80 or impaired). If you, or a person operating your vehicle with your consent, violates any of those conditions then you will have no insurance coverage. 7. Failure to cooperate with your insurer: if you are involved in an at fault accident your insurance company will contact you require you to be involved in defending the claim. If you fail to respond to your insurance company they can deny coverage to you for the accident and you will be left with a personal liability for any amounts which have to be paid to the other party involved in the accident. Remember, as owner of a vehicle, you are liable for any damages caused by that vehicle unless you can prove that it was taken without your consent. That can be tough to prove. Also remember, that even dirt bikes and other off road vehicles such as ATV’s and snowmobiles must be insured. The only exception is if you are driving your own vehicle on your own property. Be responsible, pay attention. Don’t screw yourself. As usual, the above comments relate to the law of Ontario. The laws of other provinces may differ. And as always, the above comments are for general information only and not intended as legal advice. Always consult with a lawyer before making any decision with potential legal consequences. Asylum Ink is not your typical, trendy, new style studio. It is a traditional old school type of Tattoo Parlour but has kept up to date with the latest in sanitation and tattoo equipment and has always had an airy, comfortable feel to it. The recent renovations and great new paint job have freshened it up even more. But it is not paint and remodeling and décor that makes a great tattoo studio. It is the heart and the talent that lives within those walls that really tell the tale. Asylum Ink has survived the test of time and thrived at this location for 13 years while others have failed due to that talent. It still retains its solid reputation as a shop where you are treated well and can get some downright cool artwork at reasonable prices. Tattoo Artist/Owner, Ian Aida is not your new kid on the block as he has been doing some fantastic, award winning artwork for 23 years or so and has thousands of satisfied customers who can attest to his talents. Just check out some of the testimonials on his website and see the type of work that he produces then go talk to the man himself and he will put your mind at ease and you will know that you’ve come to the right place. He started 23 years ago at The Tatty Shack here in Oshawa and the moved here in 2003. He has learned much in that time but as any real Tattoo artist or any artist for that matter, will tell you “You are always learning” and you always strive to make the next piece better than the last.” You always try to improve your craft and let other artists try to keep up with you. I know from my own experience that you always look at a line that you’ve just

drawn and think “What if I ran that line this way…….next time” I’ll bet there isn’t any true artist out there that in their mind has produced the absolute perfect piece of art or been completely satisfied with the end result. That is the impression I get when I talk with Ian or look at his work. You can see the development of one piece when you look at the volumes of his work. You can see the progression and certain styles developing or evolving from one tattoo to the next. It is the subtle little things that make the difference between a good tattoo and a great tattoo and Ian, after 23 years he knows exactly how to do a great tattoo! He doesn’t do cookie cutter type of art as he strives to give his client exactly what they want and can get it done. He has no particular style of tattoo or specialty as he is comfortable with all styles and is confident in his ability to satisfy the needs of any customer. There are two other Artists on staff, Rob, who is full time has been with him for two years and Maria. Their styles and talents complement each other and give customers even more choices, as no two artists depict things exactly the same. Asylum Ink supports many local fundraisers and charities and is also an outlet for 81 support gear. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, cover-up or refresh an old one or want to check out the latest in 81 support merchandise stop in and see the good folks at Asylum Ink. I seriously doubt if you will leave disappointed.

Hogtown Cycles, now well into its fifth year in existence, is very much alive, prospering and looking at another great and exciting year. The attractive orange and black building nestled right in the heart of beautiful Downtown Lucan, Ont. houses far more than just a motorcycle shop. The place has a personality a heart and a soul of its own and has become a vital part of not just the Motorcycle Community but has endeared themselves in the Local Community, thanks to the love, creativity, conviction and commitment that owners Mike and Teresa and their entire crew pour into it. Together, Mike and Teresa spearheaded and prompted Town involvement in the 3rd Annual “Baconfest”. The Festival is getting more and more attention and has provided a boom to the local economy.

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 36

As the popularity of the event grows so does the list of activities. So this year, along with the ever popular “Bikini Bike Wash” and running of the exciting and very entertaining “Harley Pulls” they have lined up some solid musical entertainment. This year, featuring; “Hell’s Bells”, The World’s longest touring AC/DC Tribute Band. This year they have also added camping on Saturday night so you needn’t worry if you get over-festive or indulge in a little too much bacon or spend too much time in the Hogland Beer garden while taking in all the other fine entertainment and activities that they have on the agenda. Fun Stuff, like the Burn-out pit, Custom Bike Show/Swap Meet, Lots of Vendors, a Walking Poker Tour and of course lots of BACON and the crowning of The King or Queen of Baconfest 2016! Back to the store, business has shown steady growth since they first opened the doors back in May of 2012 and continues to grow as their reputation of being fair and honest as well as reliable and affordable expands, bringing them not just local business, but from across the Country. Having gained and maintained the solid reputation of hiring the best and their commitment in keeping the software and equipment

up to current levels along with the ability of this crew to streamline the operation of the service department and get the jobs done properly and meet or surpass the expectations of the customers has resulted in unprecedented growth. The demands on the service department have doubled and tripled so far in 2016 from that of other years. This growth has resulted in them having to hire two new highly trained, knowledgeable and certified techs to keep up to the workload and allows them to provide quality work in as short a time frame as possible and provide the customers with the assurance that their motorcycle are in the “the right hands”. The show room is full of a large range of Harley-Davidson, models and years of motorcycles, all fully inspected, serviced and ready to go. If they don’t have the motorcycle of your dreams in stock they will find it for you. They are fair in their pricing as well and Mike and is not only knowledgeable but has that rare personality trait that gives him the ability to easily and comfortably converse with all of his customers from the absolute novice just wanting to get into his/her first bike to the most seasoned veteran riders and make everybody feel comfortable and sense that they are talking to “the right guy.” Teresa has great instincts as to marketing and promotion in the store and has a keen sense of what items to stock and to what will appeal to their customers. She is always on the lookout for new products to add to the already large and ever expanding selection of, in stock, clothes and motorcycle related items. They offer great deals on helmets, gloves etc. for the whole family and strive to always have something new and exciting like their own signature “Big Bore Barbecue Sauce” that they de-

veloped and is available in the store. There is no shortage of whimsical, humorous and nostalgic items on display and it is always a treat just to browse around and see what is new. They now have added an excellent line of unique Jewelry that they import from Alchemy in England and there are some really extraordinary designs available with more arriving all the time. To really sum up all that this store has to offer would take too many pages and still couldn’t encompass everything. So let’s just say that if you’re looking for a great deal on a used Harley-Davidson motorcycle or advice on what would best suit you, or looking for an interesting shop that offers excellent, knowledgeable service at reasonable prices take a trip to Hogtown for all the “Right Stuff” from the “Right People” with the “Right Attitude” and the “Right Motivation”. If you’re looking for the latest in aftermarket accessories such as chrome goodies, exhaust systems, performance upgrades or to do some custom work to individualize your ride, come on out to Hogtown. If you want the newest in motorcycle clothes, jewelry, helmets and other accessories for yourself or that special gift for that special person, check out what Hogtown has to offer. If you just like dealing with great people who are fully immersed in the motorcycle lifestyle and committed to offering their customers the very best, check out Hogtown. In other words, if you’ve come to Hogtown you came to “The right place” to put something powerful between your legs!

The Colchester Bar and Grill, where do I start, this iconic bar and grill is a stop on almost ,if not every charity ride in Essex County. They also host “Full Throttle” Thursday bike night, featuring live music, rain or shine, which is always well attended by riders from around the county, and beyond. Julie the owner has worked there since 2004, and finally took over the reins full time in 2014. Along with Michele, Tina and Nicky they

serve up an unforgettable time each and every time you go there. It’s also a good place to stop if you’re in the area on the weekend, and want to have a beverage and talk to some of the locals. The Village of Colchester is located on the north shore of Lake Erie almost in the middle of the county, and it is on the wine route if you’re into trying some of Ontario’s finest local wines. Don’t forget if you’re in the area to stop by and say hi! Also don’t forget the Canada long weekend coming up, the 21st run to the North Wall, help them support our veterans. Coming up in the next month’s issue, I will be writing about another gem in Essex County, the Heritage Village Transportation Museum, til then, ride safe everyone. Thanks, Lockup

Ride For Dad

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 38

It’s a beautiful May 29th morning, a little cool as I start my bike getting ready for the 12th annual Ride For Dad in Windsor. But first off to the Moose Lodge for a morning breakfast buffet put on by the lodge and CMC 017. With half of the proceeds raised from the breakfast going to Ride For Dad. From this breakfast 610.00 dollars was raised. So a 305.00 dollars was going to the Ride For dad but the Moose Lodge bumped the donation up to 500.00 dollars. Congratulations to all involved! Back on my bike and off to the riverfront for registration and ride info. This is one of the biggest rides in the area. People coming together to raise money for prostate cancer research. A cancer we can all relate to, knowing someone close or not so close to us who has had it. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer of men.

We hear the announcement 5 minutes people to start our bikes. I’ve been told there are 835 people registered for the ride. You see young and old, every type of bike you can think of taking part in this ride. Then we hear it start your engines!!! We are off!! The ride takes us along the water front

to the Canadian Legion Branch 157 in Amherstburg for the first stop. Then off along the water again to Colchester Bar And Grill. Stop 3 Freddy’s Park Stop on Point Pelee Drive in Leamington. Now we are headed inland towards our 4th stop in Belle River at Mr.Bigg’s. Off along the water front again to our final destination our starting point, the waterfront in front of Caesars Windsor. High Horse Power Springer

This month’s feature guy is Rob and this is his 2000 Softail Springer, which he purchased used a year or so ago and made it into what he likes to describe as the ultimate sleeper with the help of some friends of his in a machine shop who spent a lot of time reworking certain parts of the engine and strengthening the weak links in the factory designs to create a high horse powerhouse. Rob says that he has been riding bikes all his life starting out on the metric bikes back in the day and let’s just say that his beginnings at riding a Harley were a bit of an inauspicious start saying he picked up a used 1992 softail custom in the late 90’s and did it all up. Being a fellow who likes stuff to work just so and also look just so he said he never even had an opportunity to ride the bike.

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 40

Despite the used car package indicating the bike had a clean title, before he had completely finished, the cops came and took the bike saying it was stolen and had a fake serial number on it. Feeling completely burned as you can imagine Rob was disappointed. He had poured a lot into that bike including building the engine, customizing the carb, having all the tins painted, upgrading the wheels, amongst a bunch of other things but Rob had made a business investment that ended up paying well for him a few years later and at that point he had recovered from the swindle of the early 90’s softail. By this time

he had taken a Springer for a ride and decided that it was the bike for him. He loved the handling of it so with his prospects on an upswing he went to his local Harley dealer in 2003 and purchased not one but two brand new Softail Springer’s. He went on to build those two bikes. One he says was pretty the other was mean and both had lots of power to spare as they were both machined up and he also learned that there were subtle differences between the varying designs and versions of the Harley engines having started out with the evo design on his first bike and then the twin cam 88 b model on his duelling 100th anniversary Springer’s. I asked him how much he figures he spend on his two 100th anniversary bikes and he admitted that although he didn’t keep an actual tally on exactly what went into the two of them that he says he probably could have bought a cottage. Ironically as it turned out he sold the two bikes a few years ago and actually did buy a cottage which he says he loved but that he was losing his mind over the fact that

he no longer had a bike. It was one of the most hated moments in his recent life that he had a great place up north to hang out at but that not having a bike was downright depressing and that he felt the need for a project. Armed with the knowledge he had developed over the previous few builds found himself this 2000 softail spinger in what he described as very poor condition, more accurately he said it looked like it was dragged out of a swamp. I guess the point was that the bike was not well cared for by its previous owner or owners and since he had plans to do a full rebuild on not just the motor but in fact also the brake calipers and upgrade the wheels and have the tins repainted. The model year was more important for the castings and once he had the beast in hand he set about tearing the bike down to its respective components and starting to do the things that he had learned were required to build the ‘Go Fast, Sleeper Bike’ that he was looking for. Changes started with welding the various components of the crank shaft. This was necessary to avoid vibrations over 3000 rpm which can cause terminal failure of the heart and soul of the engine. The heads were ported and

flowed rods replaced with S & S, forged pistons ,Manley valves and to accomplish the high lift he needed on the valves with the camshaft he added a modified rocker arm to get the desired lift without having to modify the castings. He says that all of this put together creates an engine that makes big power without advertising. The twin 100th anniversary bikes sported screaming eagle heads amongst other things and as a result they gave away too much. He prefers the incognito look of this bike. Rob says that the bike has so much power that when he once let a pal take it for a ride his pal described the ride as a rip your arm bones out of your shoulder sockets fast when you crack the throttle. He admits that he takes it easy in the city saying that when he really wants to get out there on the edge he rides it up to that cottage that he acquired and runs it through its paces on less populated roads. He plans to get the bike off to the drag strip as well just to see exactly how good his work is. As for future plans Rob says that his next plan is to build a street legal dragster, surprisingly it’s not gonna be another Springer. He wants this bike to be based on a low rider but again he’s not looking for something new that’s all clogged up with the newer pollution controls that are present on the 2007 and newer models. He says that its gonna be a stock looking hi horsepower street licensed ride and that when he takes it to the track to race, any track, that he’s gonna ride it there to race it no trailers. For him it would be interesting to see when the work is done but for now we will have to enjoy this Springer. Rob wanted to send out some thank you’s and for obvious reasons the lovely Mirage who came over and modeled on the bike, a thanks to all the good folks at Mid-USA for helping with the aftermarket goodies that he put on this bike to deal with the power and a special message to Blaine that he should wear a Harley t-shirt.

‘I’m baaaaaaack in the saddle again! Life is getting very busy again with the biker friendly weather finally getting a bit more consistent. The first long weekend of the summer was one wonderful adventure for the King and I. Leaving Saturday afternoon was a great idea as we missed most of the stupid traffic, there were some leftover stupids but I think it would have been worse in heavy traffic.

I cut through the Beaver Valley (as per usual) and turned left instead of right to avoid construction, and next thing you know I was in Collingwood so I stopped to visit Paul and Wendy at Thurst-T’s Cycle. They have painted the outside of the building and it looks FANTASTIC!!! Paul and Wendy will be making more improvements to the parking lot and outside area as time goes on. While at Thurst-T’s Cycle, I had the pleasure of meeting Liz Manley, an medal winning Olympic Figure Skater. Figure skating was very big in my family and as a young chick I had watched Liz win that silver medal in 1988. Meeting her in person as she while she was deciding what to buy for her first motorcycle

a complete pleasure, and I may have been a bit star struck. But now we know what retired figure skaters do - they become bikers! After a cold beverage and a lot of giggles over helmet stickers, the King and I continued on towards Parry Sound. My next stop on the journey was in Stayner to see our friend Joe. It was very important to me that he realize how many bikers actually do care about him and also very important to me that Joe had some June Rider’s Mags with his picture in them. I found Joe at Timmies and showed him the picture. I asked Joe “Who is this?”. Joe’s response was “That’s Darlene”. So I laughed and asked him who was standing beside Darlene. Joe got the funniest look on his face when he realized it was him, I’m not sure how to describe it. A bit confused? flabbergasted? surprised? shocked maybe? Next thing you know Joe was hugging me so tight for so long that I started to wonder if the compression alone would make me a bit skinnier, one can only hope! I told Joe that many bikers from all over Ontario cared about him and that he had more friends than most people could ever imagine. The start of the long weekend could not have been better than the massive reward I received from seeing Joe’s reaction. With a big smile on my face and hope for humanity back in my heart, the King and I continued on towards the Thundering Hearts Spring Bash just outside of Parry Sound. When I arrived, my happy juice was waiting I filled my sippy cup started into the R & R portion of the weekend. Even though I’d only met many of these people last year, it still felt like I had known them forever. My old friend Sue was there and I can’t tell you how

absolutely wonderful it was to hang out with her. Sue had been in a terrible motorcycle accident last year where she was literally run over from behind by a truck. Most of her organs and bones were crushed and/or shattered from the impact and she still faces several major surgeries. Even with all the ongoing issues, Sue partied like a rock star all day and into the night. We chair danced through a few band sets, then next thing you know, “No Knees” was up dancing! In the last few days “No Knees” has had to change her nickname to “New Knee”, not plural yet but getting there. Seeing everyone was fantastic but when a friend cheats the grim reaper, seeing them again is beyond special. Next year we will wear our matching IROC tees! There were many, many raffle prizes but the two main

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 42

prizes were the fire ring and the painting. Ken won the fire ring from The Rock HD in Sudbury then donated it back to the THMC clubhouse saying “that is where it belongs”. Ken also won the Special Spring Bash Award for his generosity. Patchman won the grand prize, a beautiful painting from McKellar Art Studio. THMC presented me with a “Women Bikers Rule” pin which may not seem like much to many but that pin is now very special to me. After the awards and raffle prizes it was time for the band to make some noise! With the bash in full swing, a train went by that was not like any train I had ever seen. I though it was the happy juice at first but it wasn’t. That train was shooting fireballs in all directions. The forest was very dry and several fires were starting in the wake of this strange train. It was very concerning for many of us until it was explained. Apparently this train was grinding the tracks which commonly results in fires. The train itself is a water bomber which backs up and puts out it’s own fires. A truck also follows the train later to ensure all fires are out. Who knew? Once that all calmed down, it was time for the happy feet to get up and boogie down! The party went on into the night and a few people appeared to be expanding from behind. A few of us put our heads together to discuss the issue and finally decided that some of the attendees may have swallowed bubble gum. The fun and laughter just didn’t stop. I’m not sure if it was the moon or the moonshine but even after leaving the party, Cowboy and Penny and I carried on the silliness to the wee hours of the morning. THMC Spring Bash raised over $1,000 for the local food bank along with many bags and baskets of food. Morning came too early and after a wonderful breakfast it was time to start heading home. I took the very, very long way home just following the sun up and down roads without looking at maps. The following weekend was the Road Relics Benefit Run with proceeds going to one of their members who had lost everything in a house fire. The King and I had not been on

many local runs yet this year so it was very sweet to pull up to PegLegs in Ayton and have such an overwhelming welcome from so many old friends. Many of the Grey Bruce ABATE members were there to support the Road Relics for a total of 41 motorcycles. PegLeg himself is one interesting character. When they put him on oxygen, he quickly discovered that the oxygen tank would fit in his saddlebags so he can still ride! You can’t keep a dedicated biker from riding, at least not easily. Even badass Roy, a well known Ay-

ton local, was there on his raked out bicycle. The ride took us through Holstein and around some roads I had never been on before as well as some familiar areas. The Barrhead was the first stop, well known for being biker friendly. It turned out that they were closed for renovations, but the owners came downstairs and opened the bar just for us! Betcha don`t get that kind of treatment in the city! The Road Relics ride just happened to meet the Iron Sirens ride at the lunch stop. The restaurant was a bit overwhelmed with the two runs colliding over lunch but they managed to get most of us fed and watered. With a lot of yard and housework waiting at home, the King and I headed towards the lawmower to bail the backyard. In total, the Benefit

Ride raised 1600 dollars for the family who lost everything in the house fire. What a great day! The next event for the King and I was Dix’s Memorial. Mark Jack was the first ABATE member to pass away and he died on his bike back in the 90’s. Weiner now owns Mark`s bike which is named “Mark”. Weiner and Mark and I all knew one another back when

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 44

ABATE was initially founded but in all these years, I did not realize that Weiner still had Mark’s bike. The King and I met Weiner and Ron for breakfast and then rode to the property with “Mark”. It was a bit surreal and a true honor to ride with “Mark” again. Sometimes I avoid funerals and memorials but Dix Davies is very special to me as are many of the fallen members of ABATE Chapter 13. I first met Dix in the early 90’s and I have quite a few memories of John, Dix, and I sitting around camp fires trying to remember the lyrics to Arlo Guthrie and John Prine tunes which usually went up in smoke. I will always cherish those memories. Soulman conducted a very touching ceremony dedicated to Dix and all of the fallen members who are now part of Chapter 13. I could not help but reach out to John. Thank you John, I just needed to ground myself there for a bit. The ceremony by Soulman was quite touching and stirred up a few emotions. After the ceremony, the ride headed to Clinton to Hellcat’s Chili Party. But first, the ride was to pass by the retirement home where Jimbo was to honor him. I had volunteered to go ahead of the ride and make sure Jimbo was out front where he could see he ride go by and everyone could see Jimbo. This was a great plan because I really needed a bit of alone time after a very emotional morning. The King’s peaceful rumble soothed my heart and played along with my memories which brought me to the conclusion that nothing in this world can separate me from my biker friends, not even the Grim Reaper. When I arrived at the retirement home Jimbo was already outside. My work was done for me! I hung out with Jimbo and chatted about old times and motorcycles while we waited for the ride to come by. When they all went by waving and hollering and honking and carrying on it was just wonderful! It warmed my heart to witness the ongoing

love that has developed between members of this group over so many decades. I left Jimbo with a huge hug and kiss and had another beautiful solo ride with the King. The King and I met the ride in Wingham and carried on with the group to Clinton for Hellcat’s Annual Chili Party. Soulman’s new Sporran was quite the eye catcher! Any man walking around with a Badger strapped to his groin

must have more faith than the average person. Deb gave it a little petting, but to be frank, I was afraid. Deb is a very, very brave woman! The police were in Clinton waiting for us. They were not there to pull us over, they were there to block traffic so we could all ride through the main intersection in one large group. Not all police are bad. Up in these here hills they often help with rides and seldom harass anyone. This area is truly a biker’s paradise. When we arrived at the Chili Party the chili was already on and the beverages were cold. Sherry had done her usual magic, slaving over a hot stove to produce four wonderful chili recipes. We ate, drank, and were merry for a bit, then it was time for me to head home. The tractor bike showed up after I left but I can tell you that this machine was built by Pat Thompson from tractor parts and is powered by a 5 hp lawn mower engine. That’s real rural riding! Even though the riding season has barely begun, there has already been numerous motorcycle accidents. On the way home from Parry Sound along a twisty, skinny back road I came across something that no biker ever wants to see. It was the motorcycle accident where Bill Hunt lost his life. I did not know Bill Hunt but we do have some mutual friends. I wasn’t sure what to write here so I asked the family for some words and this is what Bill’s son Brandon and his daughter Kristi wrote: “Rest in peace .... On the day we lost you, we lost a father, a friend and an idol that we looked up to. We miss and love you dad... You will always be our superhero. As we move on in our lives, it will get easier to find peace with everything in the past but the good memories we have will live with us forever. Thank you to the riding community for all your love and support. Riders have a true bond far and wide. Our Dad would be truly honored. Ride on Dad” Wild Bill Hammond from Greenbush also passed away this month. Bill will be remembered for his wild side as well as his loyalty to friends and family. Bill is known far and wide through the old school biker community as one of the craziest fuckers around. Even before I met Bill I had heard the stories. The man was infamous! Wild Bill was a brother from a different mother to many. Ride fast and free Wild Bill. Life is short and death is certain. Ride safe and ride on!’

One of the really positive things about the Mag is that we help to let the biker community know about businesses that support area riders and in turn we want the riders to respond in the same way. Over the last year a number of groups have had their rides start out from B.A. Machine Performance Cycle because they wanted to show their appreciation to owners, Peri & Tim Poirier for their shop’s commitment to the motorcycle community. In late May the Burn Out Boys, an area club started their 3rd Annual BOB Ride from B.A. Machine compound and from there cruise down to their property and spend the afternoon doing burnouts and having a party. Rough count I figure they had well over 160 bikes show up and many more would take part later in the day. I want to thank Peri & Tim for their ongoing support by opening up their lot for the B.O.B crew to use and a very special thanks to Peri who thoughtfully provided free coffee and donut holes for the riders and opened the shop so riders could use the restroom facilities and it’s that kind of participation that has made B.A. Machine so popular in the Ottawa area.. There were lots of familiar faces in the crowd including Scott Towaij who just recently became a full patched member of BOB and now goes by the name Church. John Gibson of the 6*0*1 was there and I want to remind everyone to support their 1st Annual Motorcycle Kickstart Classic taking place on July 9th in Spencerville at the hotel and all bikes are welcome. As usual I received my greeting accompanied by that trademark smile from

Fonzy Ladoceur, who along with some other members of the Outlaws MC as well as the Black Pistons MC

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 46

came by to show their support along with Hillbilly and some others from the Capital City Bikers Church were there and I noticed that the Seaway Independents RC & Whiteknucklerz RC from the Cornwall area were also taking part, they would have logged some miles before the BOB

ride began. We always enjoy meeting up with Tank aka Sean Morin and his wife, Heather and Jim Poulin, one of the founders of the Greely Swap Meet accompanied by his wife, Veronica and I also had a chat with Grant Bachmier, another founder of the growing Greely Swap Meet. Honorary Brother of the TCB Mike Maloney aka Grinder started celebrating his birthday by joining in the ride and intended to met up with his wife Nancy a little later in the day. Many members of the motorcycle community may not know that Grinder is the man responsible for producing some of the most incredible metal sculptures over the years created mostly out of motorcycle engine parts and amazing imagination. He has kindly donated these works of art as prizes to a number of local events over the last decade and he gives them only for specific events such as for best bike etc and has almost never made one for an individual person with few exceptions and you may see

some of his creations later this summer at one of the area rodeos held just a bit south of Ottawa. The following Saturday the weather was perfect and I headed down to participate in the Ride for the Children’s Treatment Center in Cornwall. I was invited down by good friend Perry Montgomery and his recently formed group, the Dedicated Few RC who have become hosts of the motorcycle part of this multi-participation event which starts and ends on the St. Lawrence Campus situated right on the river’s edge which has an awesome view of the water and provides lots of shade from the trees around the event location. I wasn’t able to make it last year but Perry informed me that the number of riders was up from the previous year and as I walked around taking photographs it was apparent that all the riders were looking forward to the ride and the party upon their return. As usual I was rewarded by lots of familiar faces and patches in the crowd like the Seaway Independents RC, the Road Snakes RC and The Last Stand RC who are area clubs who came out to show support for the Children’s Treatment Center which is considered an important service for Cornwall and the surrounding area. There were members from the Ottawa chapter of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) which included friends Thor, Taz and Titan who have told me they are trying to get out to as many motorcycle events and rides throughout the summer especially those that involve the well being of children. In the last tour of the crowd before the ride headed out I was pleased to see that Matrix aka Sean Brown had come down from Ottawa to represent The Celtic Brotherhood and right after bumping into him I met up with Bill Amell, who aside from almost being “green” is the creator of B.A.K (original mobile memorials) which are small urns you can put on your handlebars to bring some of the ashes of someone special with you wherever you ride. Once all the riders had headed out I went back to Ottawa to cover a few other things that were going on but I decided

to make the most of the ride back and as everyone has certain special roads one of mine is the scenery while you travel west from Cornwall on Hwy 2 along the St. Lawrence River and about 8 kms east of Morrisburg I stopped by one of my absolutely favorite places, Gillard’s Fry and Dairy Stand to say hello to the members of the Gillard Clan. Years ago when we lived down in the Seaway area we used to promote a Motorcycle Cruise Night every Thursday at Gillard’s and at the end of the season we would have a special motorcycle appreciation night. When I use the term Biker-Friendly the Gillard family are just that kind of family

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 47

business because they are always posting posters for rides and events and have become a regular stopping point for many of those same rides and best of all you can pick-up your copy of The Riders Mag from there while filling your face and participate in Thursday Bike Night. The following morning was a very special day for me and Hauler and I were on the road around 6:00 am and heading east of Ottawa to Casselman to take part in their 5th Annual 2804 Dice Run for the local air cadet chapter. I have been to every one of the Dice runs but this one was dedicated to Denis Renaud, Husband, Biker, Businessman and town councillor and the founder of this event. Every year we lose good people and he was just such a guy, he sat on the board of SOAR (Society of Ottawa Area Riders) and he was a very strong supporter of The Celtic Brotherhood and The Riders Mag and to take part in this event being dedicated to him was something I was determined to participate in. The weather forecaster’s were threatening not one but two bands of storms coming through the area but that didn’t stop several hundred riders from coming to support

this event and as it turned out while it was overcast for an hour or two it was quite nice temperature-wise and with the exception of about 30 seconds of a few rain drops the skies finally cleared and it became quite hot and sunny. I couldn’t help but think that while Denis was up in Valhalla he had a hand in the way the day turned out for the bikers who came to his town and his event. The town always outdoes itself in making everyone feel welcome whether it is the swag bags that people got for registering or all the young people who wander around and make sure you know where everything is from the registration area to where you can get hot coffee and donuts. This event also has a tradition of sending out riders in groups and putting some time between each departure so that rider safety is always a number one priority and another reminder that a hard core motorcycle rider helped to organize how this event was meant to run. Once Hauler and I arrived it wasn’t long before we met up with Michel Dupuis, a close friend to Denis and one of the people who were instrumental in the 2804 Dice Run being dedicated to his close friend and

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 48

within minutes of meeting up with him, Bozz and Adele arrived and were planning to put up an information table for SOAR and so after a quick chat we split up and got down to business. There were a number of familiar faces from BACA, Thor, Titan and of course, the lovely Nathalie Lacasse. Pierre Cayen also was there to take part in the ride as well as a bunch of the Knights of the Inferno MC and many of the riders I talked to came from the Hawksbury/ Lachute area and there were even some that come back every year from the Montreal area. In the morning there was a gathering of town officials, friends and family of Denis that took part in a ceremony where a plaque honoring his life and his many accomplishments not only for the town of Casselman but for motorcycle riders in general and at one point when his wife Diane was about to cut the ceremonial ribbon she looked up towards the sky and I could imagine her feeling Denis was watching her do it. Hauler and I had hoped we would attend the afternoon festivities but not only did the rain never really come but

the heat really amped up and we decided that somewhere nice and cool back in Ottawa was calling us so we headed out earlier than we hoped. This Dice Run, the town it’s in and the people who put it on are awesome and next year be sure and mark it down on your calendar. As always I remind you to please support events and rides that are created and run by area riders and their clubs because these are the same folks that come to your rides and events! Also if you have an event or ride or if you are a business that deals with either motorcycles or the people who ride them, you might like to advertise or become a distributor for ‘The Riders Mag’ and if so please contact me by email or phone. THE SUMMERTIME BLUES Well my friends a streak hot weather has got me planning a trip...(plus following Donny Petersen’s Europe travel on F/book has made many of us couch-potatoes motivated and jealous)....I used the excuse for the last few years of not having a younger horse to ride...So I went out to our Mag friends AM Sales in Downsview...and there it was...2011 Road Glide Ultra ..(American bike with 20,000miles)..in that root beer colour...fairly stock with a few shiny pieces added..... Jim of AM treated me right...gave me a good price on the 11 and decent trade in for my 06. So I picked it up ....and when you make the change from Electra Glides after all the years to a Road Glide it takes awhile to be one with the bike...with some minor twitches I will make my it own....So where to go?..... still working on that and who I will roll with.... But for some reason Manitoba may be in the cards....I have an old buddy there I have been threatening to visit for awhile now...or maybe go down east.. Now what else can I report?. We had our clubs anniversary party and on the road ride the same day...due to scheduling some music gigs (two in one day)...I had to bail half way thru the ride....(I need to keep my musicians working steady or they stray off like cats).. plus I don’t mind the MONEY>>>> Special thanks to the clubs and friends that came out to our party......THE CHOSEN FEW....THE B ROT H E R H O O D. . STOP 12 BANDITS.... LONG HORNS.... OUR RANGERS BROTHERS ...and some of the boys from EAST/OSHAWA. It was great party...considering it was our last in that CH....after 3 years time to move...appears our landlord does not agree with how we conduct

ourselves or choice of friends... Sat May 28th out for a club ride...just 4 or us...plan was it to hit the Barrie/Huronia Vintage Swap Meet (next year

let’s get an ad in the MAG boys)..... 4 bikes and two break downs ...reminded me of the old days where 50% of the bikes had issues...Nick’s new trike had electrical issues and

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 49

a flat bed was dispatched...he is pissed off royally considering how new the rig is...Next was Joe B’s black decker....throttle cable busted....an hour later with a pair of needle-nose vice grips holding onto the frayed end of the cable...he taped/ zip tied to the hand grip and limped it on home... I missed last months issue... and now faced with trying to report on what I cannot recall....I must have done something interesting...oh yah I am on a TV show about bikers....as an extra...I cannot talk about it yet...but I teamed up with some local boys Eddie and Gypsy ..and met some new friends from outside the GTA...I got to do a total of 5 episodes....as a member of a 1% club to be named later...for whatever reason I got in many scenes... even throwing the star of show through a door into the parking lot....other than that it’s a lot of standing around in the background drinking water out a beer bottle and smoking herbal ciggies...but I will tell the money is just frk’n dandy! ...a shout out to the Fogman (of the band ZEDHEAD) for the intro and getting me the gig... Saturday June 4th we rolled over to see Smilin’ Bryan at Malicious Cycle in Scarboro... He decided to put on a poker run to raise funds for the Fort Mac chapter....sunny

weather was the order of the day....big turn out...stops at Downtown....Oshawa ....and Aces and Eights CH...then finished off at Malicious...Nicely done Bryan and Joanne... Also in speaking with Bryan he told me Service is very busy and that it is going full tilt...which means the reputation of good service, priced right is spreading...His words.... if it ain’t right after we work on your bike...we’ll make it right even if costs him his own money..” ...that type commitment is hard to find now-a-days... Speaking with Rick Gibson who is constantly involved with charity events..seems he never stops all summer...but his big party is the Kirkfield Invasion...August 12-14th...this is an old school party...bands...food...camping...bike games... in nice setting up in

Kirkfield at the Lions Club ...watch for the ad for it...I had real good time last year...and going again... A special plug for my good friend Billy Wilson, and his club Chosen Few MC once again putting the RIDE FOR ISSAC..proceeds to the children’s burn unit....this is a personal event for Billy and Danielle...this summer it’s July 23rd and all clubs and friends should come to support... and if you can stay for a fab dinner my band MEMPHIS NORTH is playing at it. I have James Anthony USA blues hall of famer with me on the gig and some top players I have gathered up.... A shout out to DJ ...get well youngblood...he had very bad accident a few weeks back....and I know it shocked all...(family/club/friends) .goes without saying far too many bike accidents...apparently in the last 2 years there are 14% more bikes on the road....so numbers will do what they do...and as we drive amongst a very congested city with asshats behind the wheel of a car...that apparently after they hit you say the proverbial....”I didn’t see you” So far this year I have yet to team up with Critter....ducked out on the 13th ..missed going to several events that were within an hours ride....Couldn’t make his show and shine...so if you read this then I guess I am still somewhat in his circle of No More Rust the scooter trash that Economy contribute what they can dream up each month.... ...that’s all for me ...stay safe ..

It was my intention to write a paragraph today about my experience on the OCC Annual Unity Ride . . . but, despite all my planning and hype, it was determined by other forces that I would not make this year’s run. It was planned that we would leave at 07:00 in order to make it to the jump-off spot in Barrie. My scatter is in Prince Edward County, a full four hours ride to join the ride. I was up 06:00, dressed, and out in the garage loading the angry bird when the sky opened and the rain pounded hard on the steel roof. Craig phoned and we decided to abort and see if it would blow over by 08:00. We caught a break and managed to rollout just before 08:00 but then things went from being PO’d to Fuggid! You ever been there? That place where no matter what you decide, reality is determined to scuttle your plans, crush yur schedule, and fill yur hours with undue stress. Oh, we had our own ride (beauty scenery and amazing roads) but it wasn’t the Unity Ride. The hours whizzed by, marred by more fuckups, before I arrived at the OCC meeting late. But the ride I missed (first one since inception), was reported as a huge success and enjoyed by all OCC members in attendance. It figures, Eh Ollie? The ride attracted 100 bikes approximately and toured the northern countryside for two hours before landing at the Fenelon Falls Legion. The meeting was very productive, well attended, and without incident. Our message to the dogs of the establishment – Perch on that & rotate. A very special OCC salute to both the Satan’s Assassins M.C. (for organizing the ride), and the Redline M.C. (Kawarthas) for hosting the event - and for opening their house for the festivities after the meeting. The food was great and the cake was bootiful! Also, two thumbs-up to all the OCC members in attendance – which, without their support, this important demonstration of freedom and unity amongst the clans would lack the impact. Throughout 2016, the OCC membership is involved in an amazing celebration marking the 20th anniversary of our confederation. Not a member yet? What’s yur problem? Biker rights are an oxymoron! Sure, government is proud to declare that we’re all citizens of this great country but in the eyes of law enforcement – bikers are second class and not deserving of respect for our lifestyle. Tactics being used to infringe on your precious free time are purely discriminatory harassment - thinly disguised as law enforcement. Some officers are conducting a vendetta of harassment while the courts are seemingly in concert with this squandering of our legal resources. Recently, I received an OCC Harassment Form detailing the unscrupulous abuse of roadside stops – both carried out by Kawartha Lakes OPP. Apparently, the officer enacts a roadside pullover under the guise of a danger to public safety, then proceeds to 1) inspect the rider’s helmet (and if the helmet is legal then) 2) Writes up a ticket for improper mufflers. Another ploy is to stop a rider for speeding and then leisurely processes his information – detaining the rider for almost an hour before explaining that his radar malfunctioned and the rider was free to go. The OCC has received many complaints over the past few years that indicate this particular police force has a personal prejudice against bikers, particularly clubbers. It has also been reported that most of the violations are thrown out of court if the rider attends and challenges the validity of the charge. Is this really a good use of our legal assets? Is the public made safer by these discriminatory invasions

into the lives of ordinary citizens attempting to enjoy the freedom of our democracy? I think not! It was refreshing to note that KLOPP decided to keep a ‘hands off’ approach during the Unity Ride and the subsequent OCC meeting. No Deal Peel – This is a police force outta control when it comes to bikers. Recently one of our OCC member clubs were victims of handlebar height harassment. This laughable attempt at translating the current height restrictions subjected the riders to a complete waste of their precious free time. The officer had zero knowledge on how to properly measure the height of the handlebars and as a result – the whole exercise was a shit-show of incompetence. The Ontario Highway Traffic Act description; “no part of the handlebars can exceed a height of 380mm (14.96 inches) above the uppermost portion of the operator’s seat when the seat is depressed by the weight of the operator”. The OCC Political Action Committee is working with the Ontario Liberals to change this ambiguous and very confusing definition to one that mirrors the definition utilized by many American states and a couple of our provinces i.e. British Columbia; “so secured that the maximum height to which the handlebars extend is not higher than the top of the driver’s shoulders when the driver’s seat is occupied”. Clear as a winter mountain morning, Eh Ollie? Don’t let these abuses of power stifle your rights! Fight every bullshit ticket – I know it’s a pain but very necessary to our cause. These injustices need highlighting and your attendance in court is one way to express your indignation. The Ontario Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs & Independents is busily working on solutions to these problems but change takes time. One day, these bullies will be a thing of the past. There are news reports almost daily detailing the immorality of the uniformed thugs who are paid to protect our rights and freedoms. Their mansions will fall – it is merely a matter of time. To the honest and moral members of law enforcement I say . . . When you go home at the end of your shift and you have assisted in a discriminatory act by profiling a biker . . . when you look in the mirror . . . Do you honestly think that today you made a difference? If fighting for our right to exist is considered bullshit then ‘Bullshit’ is our battle cry !!! Pastor NOT praying for fish?! Really? A couple of years ago in Thunder Bay, there were some traditional Christian Riders at our motel. I showed them a sticker that I got at Canadian Tire. It read, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and He’ll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.” When I told them I was going to stick it in the back cover of my Bible, they said, “You can’t do that, it’s sacrilegious!” If you know me, when they told me what I can’t do....” it’s still in the back of my Bible. It reminds me of when Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19. I answered that call years ago and some of you still need to take that step of faith so I’ll give you a chance in a couple minutes. This thing is, as I learned in teacher’s college, if I just make you think about God’s love, I’ve done my job. The Spirit and you can make your own deal going forward. I have a wackier sign in my cave that reads, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Give a man religion and he’ll starve to death praying for a fish!” That’s where religion and I part ways for the most part because after I pray for something, I have a serious habit of following through and doing something about it. You actually have to go out and get your own fish most of the time and I’ve seen God help. It’s always about having the right attitude. The reality is that God has good plans for you for an enjoyable and prosperous life. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans I have for you...plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” This is not just a pie in the sky hope for Heaven when we die. It means that when you express faith in Jesus Christ, you will begin a path of a happy and fulfilling life beginning right now. I think that everyone wants a life like that: happy and worth living, having good friends, and faith that gives us peace. So as I whisk my wife off to north of highway 11 east of Nipigon to be alone, canoe, fish, and recharge this summer, I won’t be praying for fish. I already know how to catch pickerel. I’ll be praying for you that you are having a safe and happy summer...and that you’re trusting God out there on the road. So please say this prayer with me now: Our Father, God, I believe in you. I believe you will make me a part of your family and I ask you to do that right now. Please show me what to do to get the good life that you promise in the Bible. Teach me how to fit in your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen. Here’s your summer blessing: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 1:3. Email me if you prayed this prayer. Ladies and their Harleys

This month’s lady feature is Paulette from Windsor and she fired off an email earlier this year mentioning that she modelled on Rusty’s special construction bike back in about 2012 and the pics appeared in the mag in 2014. She wanted to get back into the mag with her bike so despite a few miscues and Senior ending up in the hospital the very weekend of the planned shoots we did manage to get the shoot done. Because the email came through head office in Newmarket which is where Paulette sent her request all I had was her email which ended up being a work email but when she responded to my confirmation email she did give

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 54

me a phone number and luckily it was a cell and when she did not reply to my emails concerning the shoots gratefully she got my text messages. Considering that my 4 day 6 shoot trip was distilled down to a 19 hour trip with 2 shoots which we needed to complete right away it was fortunate to get Paulette down for the shoot saying she had an early night the evening before or she may not have made it under normal circumstances. So Paulette came from Newfoundland back in the early 80’s describing herself as a landed immigrant who came straight to the Windsor area from her home out east. Over

the years she did a lot of riding on the back of bikes with various boyfriends. When she got married her husband was not a rider and she really missed it and ended up buying a special construction bike as her first ride from a well known builder from the Windsor area whom she met at the gym. She’d been hankering for a bike for a while and when she decided to order up this build she put the money up front for the engine which she says was a 103” sportster stroker and it was installed into a fat boy frame. When she ordered the bike she didn’t even have a license yet and went to the riding course at the local college before getting the bike. She says she flunked the exit course but took her custom to the ministry to do her test, they pointed out the wheelbase was too long for the pylon course so she says she approached a random stranger with a Buell and borrowed his bike to do the test and passed with flying colors. That was the beginning for Paulette she says that although her husband was not a rider that shortly after they separated, post her getting a bike, he actually bought himself a bike hoping to reconcile but it didn’t work out for him and she went on the enjoy her single life and a lot of

riding. She had a group of friends that she rode with making frequent trips to West Virginia and Pennsylvania as well as Gatlinburg tn. She took a Caribbean cruise and made herself a friend on the cruise who happened to live in Fort Lauderdale Florida and she has been returning to the area to ride with her friend ever since. When she did go through her divorce which was not going well or at least stressing her out a lot a buddy said you really need to get away and he shipped her bike down to Florida in a trailer and she rode the keys with her girlfriend saying that it cleared her head to be away and when she saw the pelican flying in echelon with her she knew all was right in the world and everything was going to be fine. She also made trips to Laconia and rode Mount Washington before the worst thing ever happened that custom bike that she had owned for 10 years that she had decided to have built by the well known builder she met at the gym in Windsor got stolen right out of her driveway. She was devastated and knew she wanted another bike but was in no hurry as she knew that when she found the right bike she would know it right away. Well it took 3 years and turned out that it was right down

the street from her house all along, about 5 years ago she took her truck to the local car wash to have it cleaned and this location also had a small used car lot and in the showroom was this nice shiny Harley Davidson Fat Boy that as it turned out belonged to the owner of the location and Paulette told the girl write it up please I want that bike and I have been looking for it for 3 years now and this is it. Well as you see a limited edition Screamin Eagle Fat Boy with a total of 1500 produced and she has wasted no time in putting a lot of miles on this bike saying she has had it to her girlfriends place in Florida a couple times and rode it up to Daytona, recently rode out to Sturgis on it and also to Chicago. The one place it hasn’t been is to the east coast and Paulette says that she really wants to ride home to Newfoundland and visit her family back home and take the time to ride the Cabot Trail while she’s out that way. As for plans this year she was all set to take a few days off from her job to ride out to Port Dover for Friday the 13th and I did run into her and her girlfriends in Dover on the Thursday night and she was also riding with them up to Wasaga beach a few weeks later for a large all girls ride event. Paulette recently took one of her pals bikes for a ride an FLH style bike and she says she was quite impressed with the tunes, the cruise control, windshield and baggage and said that if she was ever to acquire another ride that it would be a Decker touring style bike. She seemed pretty flexible as to which model as long as it had all the goodies but she was pretty definite that she was never letting go of her Screaming Eagle Fat Boy.

So I have been getting a little more riding in this year and I am enjoying it beyond description and I am out attending a few events and using the bikes to get around to the various places I want to get to when I want to get there. I still travel a lot so in those cases the bikes stay in the garage but I still love getting out for a ride. I am winding up my feature shoot responsibilities which I didn’t think would ever end but Critter has moved to a national publication and is kicking me to the curb. It was the one thing I really liked to do and its gonna leave a hole in my life for sure but all good things have to come to an end at some point but maybe he will ask me to do a few shoots, I will just have to wait and see. The most important thing on my mind is the two men’s

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 56

shoots that I need to get done, I need a vintage bike for the September October issue and I have a couple on my list but both seem to be in various states of restoration and I have made it clear that if they can’t come through with a bike for me then I am going to solicit another so to be clear a vintage bike has got to be older than a shovel so anything pre shovel qualifies or even an old Indian not one of the late model California’s or Polaris’ panhead, knuckle, flathead of any displacement if you have one contact me or the mag office please it’s for the September October 2016 issue. I also need a special construction bike, we started this category back in about 2007 when we switched over to the 10 issue format and did so specifically to cater to those ground up builds that were very popular at that time, prior to that we could only slot them in with the late model stuff so with so many evo and twin cams as well as v-rods when they came along we also had to contend with anything with a custom frame big inch engines etcetera. So there has been a bit of a drought on the special construction and if you own one send me some pictures we will even accept Harley frames if they are heavily modified raked or have wide tire kits on the back but I need one to finish up my commitment for the November December mag. Any excess and anyone who is on the list and has not been shot they will be passed along to Critter as it is my understanding that he is taking over these responsibilities as well and will be doing the pictures and the stories beginning with the January 2017 mag. It’s been a great run help me finish this off with panache, ok? I hope to always be some part of the Mag after all I do still have my paper route through north Hamilton and I do some event coverage when called upon and I do love to ride so I hope to see you out there, on the road.

B.R.O. Fallen Riders Ride 2016

Saturday May 28th saw riders from Lindsay, Niagara Falls, Sault Ste Marie and points between converge on Queens Park for the 15th annual Fallen Riders Memorial. This event, hosted by the Bikers Rights Organization, is an annual event to remember those brothers and sisters in the wind who have died while riding. It was started after BRO member Chris Mayhew was killed by a left turning cube van on July 07 2001, while returning from Charlie’s Indian Day in Campbellford. The inspiration came partly from the old tradition of the 1% clubs doing a cemetery run yearly to honour and remember their deceased brothers. It’s inspiration for the location and effort also came from the fact that we riders used to gather at Queens Park with other OCC member clubs/ indies to protest handlebar height laws, insurance premiums and mandatory helmet laws which has thus far resulted in no changes. Knowing that there will only be changes if the government decides to do so, there was a need to do something that wasn’t protest oriented but to remember the people named on the wall. This is also an attempt to make the public more aware of the facts that the roads are not as safe as the current government claims. 156 names are on the memorial, and unfortunately, each year more are added. The heat of the day may have deterred some from attending, but those that made it were respectful, sincere in their memorialisation and dedication to the cause. Poems of remembrance were read, and Pastor Ken from the Hamilton Bikers church led attendees in a prayer. A big thanks to all who attended, and especially to event coordinator Brian (Gazoo) Burnett, who again brought and set up the tent, sound system and memorial for this poignant and important event. The importance of this event is not so much its size, but rather the very crucial statement it makes. We honor our dead, and we fight for our living. On that final note we ask that all who read this article contact your MPP and ask for support for Bill 154 to obtain justice for our future Fallen Riders and their families. regards, Gerry Rhodes Bikers Rights Organization Provincial Government Liaison

An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues: Man: ‘I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitch-hiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them three times.’ Priest: ‘Are you sorry for your sins?’ Man: ‘What sins?’ Priest: ‘What kind of a Catholic are you?’ Man: ‘I’m Jewish.’ Priest: ‘Why are you telling me all this?’ Man: ‘I’m 92 years old ..... I’m telling everybody!’ An elderly man goes into a brothel and tells the madam he would like a young girl for the night. Surprised, she looks at the ancient man and asks how old he is. ‘I’m 90 years old,’ he says. ‘90!’ replies the woman. ‘Don’t you realize you’ve had it?’ ‘Oh, sorry,’ says the old man. ‘How much do I owe you?’ An elderly man went to his doctor and said, ‘Doc, I think I’m getting senile.. Several times lately, I have forgotten to zip up.’ ‘That’s not senility,’ replied the doctor. ‘Senility is when you forget to zip down.’

A woman was having a passionate affair with an Irish inspector from a pest-control company. One afternoon they were carrying on in the bedroom together when her husband arrived home unexpectedly. ‘Quick,’ said the woman to the lover, ‘into the closet!’ and she pushed him in the closet, stark naked. The husband, however, became suspicious and after a search of the bedroom discovered the man in the closet. ‘Who are you?’ he asked him. ‘I’m an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone,’ said the exterminator. ‘What are you doing in there?’ the husband asked. ‘I’m investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths,’ the man replied. ‘And where are your clothes?’ asked the husband. The man looked down at himself and said, ‘Those little bastards! Wife: ‘What are you doing?’ Husband: Nothing. Wife: ‘Nothing...? You’ve been reading our marriage certificate for an hour.’ Husband: ‘I was looking for the expiration date.’ Wife: ‘Do you want dinner?’ Husband: ‘Sure! What are my choices?’ Wife: ‘Yes or no.’ Girl: ‘When we get married, I want to share all your worries, troubles and lighten your burden.’ Boy: ‘It’s very kind of you, darling, but I don’t have any worries or troubles.’ Girl: ‘Well that’s because we aren’t married yet.’ Son: ‘Mum, when I was on the bus with Dad this morning, he told me to give up my seat to a lady.’ Mom: ‘Well, you have done the right thing.’ Son: ‘But mum, I was sitting on daddy’s lap.’ A newly married man asked his wife, ‘Would you have married me if my father hadn’t left me a fortune?’ ‘Honey,’ the woman replied sweetly, ‘I’d have married you, NO MATTER WHO LEFT YOU A FORTUNE!’ A wife asked her husband: ‘What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?’ He looked at her from head to toe and replied: ‘I like your sense of humour!’ A man was sitting reading his papers when his wife hit him round the head with a frying pan. ‘What was that for?’ the man asked. The wife replied ‘That was for the piece of paper with the name Jenny on it that I found in your pants pocket’. The man then said ‘When I was at the races last week Jenny was the name of the horse I bet on’ The wife apologized and went on with the housework. Three days later the man is watching TV when his wife bashes him on the head with an even bigger frying pan, knocking him unconscious. Upon re-gaining consciousness the man asked why she had hit again. Wife replied. ‘Your horse phoned’

There was a knock on the door this past Saturday morning. I opened it to find a young, well-dressed man standing there who said: “Hello sir, I’m a Jehovah’s Witness. “So I said “Come in and sit down.” I offered him a fresh cup of coffee and asked “What do you want to talk about? “He said, “Beats the shit out of me.... Nobody ever let me in before.” A cowboy and his wife had just gotten married and found a nice hotel for their wedding night. The man approached the Front Desk and asked for a room....He said, ‘This heerza special ‘casion -- our honeymoon-- and we need a nice room with a good strong bed.’ The clerk winked -- ‘You want the ‘Bridal’?’ The cowboy reflected on this for a moment and then replied, ‘Nope, reckon not. Guess I’ll jist hold on to her ears til she gits used to it.’ A husband walks into a shop to purchase a sheer negligee for his wife. He is shown several possibilities that range from $250 to $500 in price -- the more sheer, the higher the price. Naturally, he opts for the most sheer item, pays the $500, and takes it home. He presents it to his wife and asks her to go upstairs, put it on, and model it for him. Upstairs the wife thinks (she’s no dummy), ‘I have an idea. It’s so sheer that it might as well be nothing. I won’t put it on, but I’ll do the modeling naked, return it tomorrow, and keep the $500 refund for myself.’ She appears naked on the balcony and strikes a pose. The husband says, ‘Good Grief! You’d think for $500, they’d at least iron it!’ He never heard the shot. Funeral on Thursday at Noon. Closed coffin My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $70!!! Blow this , I thought , I can get one cheaper off the web. I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance , so I pushed her over. While Bubba and Billy Bob were in the local Wal-Mart, they decided to get in on the weekly charity raffle. They bought five tickets each at a dollar a pop. The following week, when the raffle was drawn, each had won a prize. Billy Bob won 1st place- a year’s supply of gourmet spaghetti sauce and extra long spaghetti. Bubba won 6th prize - a toilet brush. About a week or so had passed when the men met back at Wal-Mart. Bubba asked Billy Bob how he liked his prize, to which Billy Bob replied: “Great!, I love spaghetti! “Billy Bob asked Bubba “How ‘bout you, how’s the toilet brush?” Not so good,” replied Bubba, “I’m thinking ‘bout switching back to paper.”

When you approach the egg case, you hear hens clucking and cackling, and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon and eggs frying. The bread department features the tantalizing smell of fresh baked bread and cookies. I don’t buy toilet paper there anymore. I felt sorry for the hypnotist I saw last night… he hypnotized 7 guys then dropped the mic on his foot and yelled FUCK ME, WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WILL HAUNT ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I went fishing one morning but after a short time I ran out of prawns. Then I saw a redbelly black snake with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good barramundi bait. Knowing the snake couldn’t bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket. Now the problem was how to release the snake without getting bitten. So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog. A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. It was that bloody snake, with two more frogs. Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke? Why do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters? Why do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage? Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why can’t women put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don’t you ever see the headline ‘Psychic Wins Lot-

A while ago a new supermarket opened in Houston, Texas. It has an automatic water mister to keep the produce fresh. Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder and the smell of fresh rain. When you pass the milk cases, you hear cows mooing and there is the scent of freshly mowed hay. In the meat department there is the aroma of charcoal grilled steaks with onions.

one evening when an old cow loomed in front of the car. The driver tried to avoid it, but couldn’t. The aged cow was struck and killed. Premier Wynne told her driver to go up to the farmhouse and explain to the owners what had happened and pay them for the cow. About an hour later the driver staggered back to the car with his clothes in disarray. He was holding a half-empty bottle of expensive wine in one hand, a huge Cuban cigar in the other, and was smiling happily, smeared with lipstick. “What happened to you?,” asked Kathleen . “Well,” the driver replied, “the farmer gave me the cigar, his wife gave me the wine, and their beautiful twin daughters made passionate love to me.” “What did you tell them?” asked Premier Wynne. The driver replied, “I just stepped inside the door and said, ‘I’m Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s driver and I’ve just killed the old cow.’ The rest happened so fast I couldn’t

A police recruit was asked during the exam, “What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?” He answered, “Call for backup.” A new business was opening and one of the owner’s friends wanted to send him flowers for the occasion. They arrived at the new business site and the owner read the card, “Rest in Peace.” The owner was angry and called the florist to complain. After he had told the florist of the obvious mistake and how angry he was, the florist replied, “Sir, I’m really sorry for the mistake, but rather than getting angry you should imagine this. Somewhere there is a funeral taking place today, and they have flowers with a note saying, ‘Congratulations on your new location!’” A guy goes in an adult store and asks for an inflatable doll. The guy behind the counter says, “Male or female?” The customer says, “Female” The counter guy asks, “Black or white?” The customer says, “White” The counter guy asks, “Christian..... or Muslim?” The customer says, “What the hell does religion have to do with it?” The counter guy says, “The Muslim one blows itself up!” Man comes home, finds his wife with his friend in bed. He shoots his friend and kills him. His Wife says “If you behave like this, you will lose ALL your friends!” A women asks man who is traveling with six children, “Are all these kids yours?”
