THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 7

Well Riding Season 2016 is now underway and the warm weather beckons us out onto the open roads. I hope that it will be a great one and a safe one for everyone. It certainly shaping up to be a busy one as the list of rides, both older established ones and new ones is getting longer with everyday so check the What’s Shakin’ pages both in print and The Online versions for updates on what’s going on out there to keep you busy this year. With our ever expanding crew now providing better coverage in ever expanding areas of the Province and the Country, we now have plenty of new rides and events starting to appear on those pages that we have never had before. We cannot advertise for free but do give “Special Charity Rates” and it is our honour and privilege to be able to get the word out to support events in those areas in an effort to increase attendance and help make events such as The 2nd Annual Barks and Bikes Ride that provides National Service Dogs for Vets with PTSD and Children with Autism, a success. This is a tremendous cause that has a huge impact on the lives of the recipients of these magnificent animals. It is being run out of the Frankford Legion, just North of Trenton, June 18, 2016 and has a Pig Roast included at the end of an hour and a half ride through some of the prettiest countryside in the Province. Last year they were able to raise over $2000.00 and hope to increase that this year. Check out their ad elsewhere in this issue for more details. Also back after a couple of years hiatus; The Orangeville Legion is once again doing their Show and Shine on July 24th. This was always a great event with some fantastic food and plenty of prizes. Charles (Chuck) Beal – July 24, 1959 – April 24, 2016 I was extremely saddened to hear the news that Chuck Beal has lost his long and courageous battle with Cancer. He will be sadly missed by his wife Sandra, his family, all of his many friends. The World will be a sadder place

THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 8

without him but a better place because he existed and he made his mark! “Death leaves a heartache that nothing can heal. - Love leaves memories that no one can steal.” GBNF Angie Cornacchia – RIP - GBNF I was shocked but not surprized to get the news that Angie had finally lost her very long and valiant battle with cancer. She didn’t go easy as she fought it to the end and never let it take her pride, spirit or her dignity! I will always remember her tremendous smile and infectious laugh that seemed to come so easy and so often and came from her soul despite the torment she was going through. Life certainly wasn’t easy for her but she was never a whiner. Her passing will surely leave a huge void in the

lives of many. She fought hard and steady right to the end and is an inspiration to all. She lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of meeting her. If there is an afterlife and it is indeed the promised Paradise, I hope her World now is full of love and the animals she loved and rides, laughs and loves again with all her brothers and sisters who have gone on before and will be there to welcome those of us who follow. To the best of my knowledge, many of my recent health issues are either in check or under control and all I can do now is hope for the best and keep plugging away. I have at long last had an initial assessment with an Orthopaedic Surgeon and hope that I can get this shoulder put back together soon. It has been busy times here at the Mag as we get ready for Port Dover and our 1st ever Swap Meet up at Black Gold in Newmarket but by the time you receive this issue of The Mag, both will have already happened. Classy Chassis Calendar Photoshoot Classy Chassis certainly is a catchy name but anytime I hear the terms Class or Classy used, a particular song from an old, 1960’s musical springs to mind. It is from a “Rat Pack” movie, a starring, among others, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and in this particular movie, Bing Crosby. The song was; “You’ve either got or you haven’t got Class.” Contained in it, some of the lyrics were; “Style! - If you got it you stand out a mile!” “Class! How draws the applause of the masses!” and they have stuck with me through the years! According to the lyrics, there are certain ways to determine style and class and with someone or something indeed has it or not got it. To my way of thinking, to define yourself or your business as Classy is a bold statement at best, as it is something of a title that you can strive for, but it really should be determined by others if you have achieved it! It is a term used to describe something or someone that has impressed them in a big way, and not something that you apply to yourself or your own business. It is one thing to make a claim but generally hard to live up to. While it is evident from the moment that you drive onto the well maintained property with the huge parking lot and great looking buildings that they definitely had something going for themselves,

but then again, looks can be deceiving, and more than a few people have been fooled by a great façade, a pretty face and makeup, window dressing, smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand or whatever, but they had my attention and my interest. I reserved judgement until after I met the people involved and had a chance to see what they are doing here and came to the conclusion that they had indeed called it right. They have both style and class in abundance and to quote my Dad; “It’s a damned poor dog that can’t wag his own tail!” So Classy Chassis it is! I was here this day, to do a photoshoot with the Granddaughter of the owner/ Daughter of both the General Manager and Step daughter of the Sales Manager all kinds of other relatives who dropped by at various times during the shoot to say hi! I had never met or seen a picture of my soon to be model but I was assured by her

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 9

Mom that she was really pretty and would love to do the shoot and since this is a family business would be entirely appropriate. I walked in to find a very tall, slender, absolutely stunning young lady with some incredible facial features, who was introduced to me as Chelsie. It turns out that Chelsie was also once an employee at Classy Chassis who was now training to be a paramedic, but she still comes back to help out at events throughout the year. We got started right away as the bike selection process had already happened so it was just a matter of moving Chelsie from bike to bike and making the odd adjustment in the placement of each bike and minor costume changes. Chelsie was a dream to work with and made my job easy which was good since I’m still plagued with this shoulder injury thing and maneuvering the camera around for shots without aggravating the shoulder anymore was a challenge at times. We got it done and it was now note taking time at an interview with Charlene to find out about the history and what not on the shop and the people involved. It was fascinating stuff, Charlene is an absolute pleasure to talk to and my notes kept getting longer and longer and I knew that we were nowhere near being done. This was going to be hard to condense this to fit the feature. Charlene shared stories of her Dad and how this whole thing came to be and how she needed change and moved here from Pickering to help her Dad with his business. In doing so, she found a new experience, purpose, romance, love and a husband. I’d say that she scored fairly high on the scale of

THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 10

accomplishing change. She met Josh who is now sales manager through a blind date set up by a mutual friend at Auto Trader which apparently proves that you can find anything at Auto Trader, even a soul mate. It turns out that Jon is also an ordained minister and he performed the marriage ceremony under the Gazebo at the front of the property. There were about 300 bikers in attendance and at the end, Josh and Charlene left on their honeymoon on their motorcycles. Jon proudly performed the service (His first wedding service.) in a special REV/Dad t shirt. I did a subsequent follow up interview by phone with Jon to get clarification on a few points and my notes went from long to how the_ _ _ _ am I going to fit all this

in?

He certainly is an interesting guy and had lots to say. Jon himself, has been riding since he was fifteen and it has been his passion ever since. He has ridden all over Canada and the United States and can’t pass by a dealership of any kind without stopping in to check it out and see how they are doing things and get pointers on what works and what doesn’t from all over. He then figures out if those things would work here at Classy Chassis. Some things work and others don’t but the only way to know for sure is to try. With very few exceptions, the whole family rides a motorcycle and John can’t, and makes no attempt to, mask his delight at having gone on a family Motorcycle road trip with a pack of 14 motorcycles with family members on each and every one! For him and the family, motorcycles are a unifying factor and a common thread that bonds them together. He has a Grandson, Kennedy, with autism who doesn’t like to be touched especially by men and it hurt John who loves him dearly, and was frustrated at being unable to express or translate those feelings to his grandson, until one day he rode up to visit on a motorcycle and noticed that Kennedy was mesmerized by the bike and when offered a ride, jumped on and it became a true bonding experience that may never have transpired if not for that motorcycle. I had a great day with some truly nice people and can’t wait to come back. You should stop in sometime

590 York Rd. Niagara on the Lake, ON 905-684-4647 www.claresharleydavidson.com

with me today as Dangerous Doug and his lovely lady “Tuesday” were coming along as well. This is good because my bum shoulder doesn’t allow for much physical stuff like lifting and toting!

and check them out and determine for yourself is they are Classy! Fort Erie Swap Meet 2016 It was a rainy day! Very Rainy! I knew that that would spoil the plans for all of those who usually ride their bikes to this event. That includes Bad Bob who usually insists on taking his great looking decker, who, when I called early that morning and offered a seat in the Black Bitch, chose the warm and dry option. I had plenty of company

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 11

My hunch was confirmed when we pulled up in front of the Hall and to find it void of the usual mass of motorcycles (Except for the stalwart (Very Stubborn) few!) and

masses of people milling around the parking lot. Outdoor vendors were also few in numbers. They had both entrances open this year, one at the front and one at the rear of the building but we set up at our traditional spot just inside the front doors and put a couple of bundles at the rear doors.

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 12

We unfortunately didn’t have Sr. with us this year as he had been hospitalized with a bout of pneumonia and some other issues the week previous and wasn’t able to get out in time, as he’d hoped. This has always been one of his favourite events and he was very disappointed at not being able to attend but his health takes precedence. JR did make it out but he too had chosen the high and dry four wheeled comfort over the wet and soggy ride that would have been and made his rounds. The rain had definitely put a damper on this year’s event as the crowds and the vendors seemed somewhat fewer but it was still a great event. There were certainly some good deals on a lot of really good stuff as all of our merry band came home with some great items and the list of stuff to be installed on Petoonia has grown again! Once I get those body parts back from the painter I’ll get started and she will look sweet. As usual, organizer Shawn McCooey had plenty of stuff going on and he was everywhere. He was a little disappointed that the weather had an adverse effect on this year’s event but knows that that is the nature of the beast. He puts a lot of time and effort into promotion and in trying to make it more than just a swap meet and more of a happening! Shawn tries to instill some excitement with things like games of chance and features like the “Motorcycle

Tear-Down Competition!” and “The World’s Shortest Poker Run” and other whimsical and very imaginative stuff. You just never know what wild and crazy thing he will come up with for next year but knowing SHawn, I know that he will come up with something and it is sure to be different! I wandered through several times, on the lookout for items and to visit with folks who came out as either attendees or vendors or both along the way. Fred Hale who has been a fixture at this event and many other Swap Meets all over the Province for years now must have cleaned out his great shop up in Pefferlaw for this one as he had taken up almost one whole side of the building and was offering some great deals. It was good to see Katherine McDonald out and set up promoting The Alvinston Swap Meet and selling some of their wares. Bob and Mel from Full Throttle up in Beautiful downtown Fenelon Falls also had a good offering of parts and goodies displayed as usual. We had a great day distributed a lot of Mags, picked up a lot of great deals on some great items met some great people and topped it all off with a fantastic lunch at The famed S Bend Restaurant just down the road. Life is good but sometimes a little rain must fall!

Hogtown Cycles Spring Open House

Hog Town Cycles Annual Spring Open House……. April riding weather is hit or miss. Ahhh but Mother Nature took a shining to Hog Town Cycles Annual Spring Open House with great weather on April 30th. It was my first trip to the Lucan, Ontario based Hog Town Cycles . As I rolled in I was pleasantly surprised at both the size and scope of the business. It’s also hard to miss with its Harley Orange painted exterior and its location in the downtown core of Lucan. Nice town too, well-kept and clean with a lot of history. It’s the stomping grounds of the Black Donnellys. They even have a Donnelly Museum across the street from Hog Town. If you don’t know anything about the Family go to www.donnelly.com . Some say they were bad asses - others disagree. Take a look and decide for yourself. At Hog Town you can find just about anything for your ride; from tires, helmets, clothing, parts and accessories all at great prices. If owners, Mike and Teresa Koricina, don’t have it in stock they’ll order the part and have it delivered the next day. I know 1st hand because I got a fair price on a pair of Rineharts and still walked out of there with money in my pocket. Try that elsewhere and I’ll guarantee you’ll pay more and at a fraction of the service. Rounding out the 4000 sq. ft. sales floor sits a large selection of gently used Harley’s for sale. Not sure what ride works best for you, don’t worry – Mike and his staff are experienced riders and with a selection of Sportsters to

Ultras and everything in between you’ll get the right bike at the right price. After sales service is also a big part of their business success. Hog Town is an impressive modern shop with three lifts and three full-time techs including son Matt, these boys are capable of preforming anything from the most basic task to the most complicated fix. It helps explain why they sell more than 200 used Harley’s a year and service 100’s more. When you think about, Lucan is in the middle of pork country, no offense to pigs, and yet Hog Town continues to thrive. Mike was telling me they have customers ride in from Windsor for service. Others hail from the GTA. He sells bikes as far away as NS and all points in between. So I asked him, “What is it Mike - why do people support you and Hog Town? Simple answer he said – Trust!” ‘nough said. On another note – Hog Town’s Annual BaconFest kicks off July 9th with overnight camping, live entertainment, and vendors. Also on tap, a Show & Shine, Bike Wash, “Hog Town Harley Pulls” & Custom Bike Show plus my favourite, a well-stocked and very large beer tent! Sorry Critter 50 is banned from Lucan. There are other attractions too; for the full line up and to book your spot go to www.hogtowncycles.ca . This is the 3rd Annual Baconfest and has the complete support of the town so expect a warm welcome. It promises to be a great event with numbers approaching 10,000 bikers - plus a few Hogs thrown in for good measure. Later, Irish And remember - “if you’re not living on the edge – you’re taking up too much room”

Just back from attending the National Coalition of Motorcyclist (NCOM) convention in Atlantic City and (as usual) it was well worth the time & expense. The annual event runs three days and is a moveable feast which relocates to a different geographical section of America every May. This was my second time but sadly, will probably be my last; as the ravages of time and responsibilities make it harder for me to journey far from my home base. Nonetheless, it was good for my morale to mingle with so many likeminded individuals and to rekindle old friendships while enjoying the brotherhood and camaraderie of many new acquaintances. There were many clubs in attendance (Est. 100+) – some were conspicuous by their sheer numbers while others were noticed by their distinctive names or their impressive cuts. Everyone got along without incident, which is the unspoken rule of the event. This year, I was able to coerce our OCC Editor, Bernie Martin aka Pirate, to accompany me. It was our first opportunity to wear our new vests out in a public gathering of our peers and we received many inquiries and positive comments regarding our OCC Independent Member patch, which we wore throughout the weekend. The patch was respected by all clubs and I received many compli-

ments on its design; a few even recognized the Trillium as the official symbol of Ontario. None of them were aware that the logo also depicts the scales of justice and a law enforcement badge turned upside down until I explained that it is our collective opinion that the law (as it pertains to the biker lifestyle) is skewed and unjust – if there were any skeptics, they became supporters from that point forward. The logo is, and has always been, a powerful (and positive) battle flag in our quest to eradicate all bias and discrimination towards bikers - particularly clubbers – for simply pursuing a free and honest way of living. The weekend was a flurry of seminars and meetings that covered many aspects of our lifestyle. I thoroughly enjoyed the many reports by the NCOM lawyers regarding various battles being waged throughout the USA. Also, the seminar by the US Defenders was both inspiring and enlightening. It was good to reconnect with Double D, a true warrior in every sense of the word. It was great news that Maryland is on the fast track to pass a motorcycle profiling bill, positioning Maryland as the second state in the country behind Washington to pass anti-discrimination legislation. The bill was presented to the Maryland legislature by the US Defenders along with many representatives from the various motorcycle clubs collected under the Maryland Confederation of Clubs banner. Perhaps now is the time for the Canadian CoC’s to press our politicians to ban biker profiling, Eh Ollie? Friday’s events began with the opening ceremonies wherein; one of the legal team involved in the ongoing Waco tragedy gave us an update on the investigation and legal wrangling. It was interesting to hear that one of the Cossacks was in fact an undercover operative who, once the shooting started, removed his club cut; and with badge dangling from his neck, opened fire on both Cossacks and other bikers. He was captured on video and was easily identified by his bright red, canvas back shoes. The hard, cold stats are appalling: Nine bikers murdered, over 200 bikers rounded up and detained, 177 were arrested, 106 have been charged with a first degree felony (membership in a criminal org), and after a 23 month investigation only three bikers have been charged with assault. It is the opinion of the victims that the police were itching to open fire and did so after receiving a signal from an undercover operative who was planted in the parking lot – some are convinced it was the Cossack/Undercover with the red shoes. During the seminar, a bag was circulated to collect donations for the families – many are without the basics like food etc. due to the loss of income. The total collected from this one gathering was over $1000.00. Friday’s busy day culminated with the Patch Holders Meeting of the Coalition of Clubs. It was with great pride that I spoke of our OCC accomplishments and our ongoing efforts to thwart the lowlife tactics being utilized by the BEU. My report ran a full ten minutes during which I touched on our activities i.e. assisting with the forming of the Atlantic Confederation of Clubs, the annual OCC conference, celebrating our 20th anniversary, the creation of The Ontario Biker Blacklist on ®Facebook, the creation of our quarterly newsletter, and our ongoing annual Unity Ride to debunk the BEU propaganda of an impending biker war (incidentally, our display of unity has the BEU backing away from using ‘impending biker war’ fear mongering

propaganda). It was also very enlightening to listen to the many other (30+) CoC representatives who also reported on their campaigns in the ongoing battle to maintain biker’s rights in America. Saturday found me listening intently to another NCOM attorney from FLA, as he talked about roadside stops and the problem concerning bikers overreacting and allowing their emotions to override their common sense. He underlined that . . . this is NOT the time to run off at the mouth. Many LE officers will probe for information about your club etc. You are not required to disclose personal information other than what is listed on your paperwork. It is very important that you know your rights. Stop your vehicle as soon as they light you up but make sure it is a place that is well lit and safely out of harm’s way. Shut off your motorcycle but do not dismount until asked by the officer. Surrender your paperwork, license, insurance and ownership. Keep calm, cool and respectful. Answer any questions concerning your paperwork or if you have been drinking. If asked where you are going simply answer that you are on your way home. If the officer begins to question you about your club etc. inform them that you do not wish to engage in conversation with him. Remember that anything you say (or do) can be used against you. Keep your hands where police can see them and never touch the officer. Do not agree to any search of your body or your motorcycle. If the questioning persists, ask if you are under arrest. If not, then ask if you can leave. If you are informed that you are being detained then ask to contact your lawyer . . . then shut the fuck up. Don’t let your emotions walk you into a jail cell. You are much cleverer than that, Eh Ollie? Saturday evening was dedicated to the NCOM Banquet and Awards Ceremony. It was monumental and very touching to honor the many volunteers who dedicate countless hours of their precious free time in pursuit of justice and fairness for us all. Homage was paid to the Moms in the room, who were asked to stand and receive our gratitude. During the dinner and the celebrations, two large NCOM posters, along with the Waco donation bags, were passed around the room. We all signed the posters, forever grateful that there is an organization that represents us all. The cash was counted and the final total for the victims of Waco was $4000.00. I cannot end this report without mentioning another biker entity that works within NCOM and the Coalition of Clubs – Bravo to the members of the Christian Unity mission who have collectively raised over $25,000.00 for the victims of the Waco tragedy - while assisting the families to return to some form of normalcy. These volunteers work tirelessly on the mundane basics; like getting the power turned back on or paying the water bill or arranging jail house visits or driving people to doctor or dental appointments. These every day saints provide some stability in a very chaotic environment for those devastated by this unnecessary abuse of power. Thank you for being there and for being part of the solution – You be Aces! Roostah Rider OCC Treasurer www.occ4u.org Rooster Rider

Hi out there, I can confirm it’s finally spring in New Brunswick! The Skidoos, Polaris, Artic cats and all those other snow machines have gone into hibernation and the foxes, chipmunks, finches and red breasted robins are taking over, along with the Harleys, Hondas, Suzukis, Ducatis, Triumphs and multitudes of other rare two wheel machines are taking over the roads. I pulled out the “couch”, got some K’s on her, only to have her fall over in my driveway during the night on her first day of freedom because of a heavy windstorm in our area. Except for a $500 mirror all is well with the baby. We did have the opportunity to head down to Charlie’s swap meet down in Riverview (Moncton) and meet up with more old and new brothers from all over the Maritimes. I think most of the clubs in the east were highly represented; even 81 downtown TO had a booth set up with support gear. Several vendors had booths set up and I saw many smiling faces and arms full of goodies wandering around.

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 18

Along with the multitude of vendors, there was a bar, food vendors and live entertainment to fill out the day. All in all it was a great venue and I for one will be returning next year. I would estimate 800 souls past through the gates and I was so overjoyed seeing the first swarm of bikes converging at this location. Finally, I have to apologize to my brothers from NBS Riders in Port Colborne for not getting to the “Pee Wee” ride and also to all of my friends in Port Dover for missing the first Friday 13th since 1981. Sorry but scheduling & finances made it impossible. Well, gearing up for the meet & greet by 13 Crew in Fredericton and hoping for a bike/camping tour this month. Well its March and the kids are going on march break soon. The wife said it would be a good time for me to go visit my kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and all my brothers from other mothers. So here I go, on my way to Ontario. First stop is Port Hope where Doug and Rose live. That’s my son and his wife. Rose puts my article and pictures in the computer and sends it to The Riders Mag. She is the one who corrects all the mistakes and makes it look a lot better so thank you Rose. Keep me looking good! I went out to the shed where my ‘69 Triumph chopper is that I gave to Doug. I took it out so I could take some pictures for the mag. We have to get a little work done on her but she still runs great. Next stop is to my brothers place, Mike and Barb Murphys, to stay with them for a week. I’ve considered him a brother since I met him, that was when he was 15. I considered his dad Jerry as my dad too. So Mike phoned Critter and he asked if he would be there on Friday. He said he would be so we went down to the Mag where we were welcomed by AL and Scottie and were handed a beer. We had a great talk and in a little time Critter came in and we all had a good time talking about The Riders Mag back when. We all agree the new mag is fantastic. Wednesday is meeting day up in Dodge, that’s what we call Tottenham Ontario. Thats where we all get together and shoot the shit and drink lots of beer. It is also where C.B McQueen lies and has his bike shop. This is one place I love to go to. C.B and Jennette always make me feel welcome as well as everyone who is there. Well it’s time to get back to my sons place. I have to go see my sister Barb and her husband Duncan before I have to go back home. I have to be back by the 25th of March because I have to go to March Madness party for the Villans Its their first anniversary of being an M.C 1% club. Congratulations guys, well done. Well I’m back from my holiday from Ontario. I was sup-

posed to be back for March Madness clubhouse party but I was tired from the ice storm in Ontario. Trees were down on roads and in driveways. I was in Gilford with my brother Mike and his wife Barb. I was there until the 26th of March when I finally got out of his driveway and made it back to my sons place in Port Hope. Since I’ve been home it’s been bad weather. Everyone has been hibernating. We are back into winter it seems. Now into April and the horses come home from the boarding stables soon. I have my hands full getting the barn fixed up and cleaned out and paddock fenced in. I only had two weeks to get it done but I did it! Everything was going great and I put the electric fence up, plugged it in and let the horses out the back to run... Well they ran right through the fence! So I guess I got to go catch them, they are probably down at the beach by now! Bye for now... PEI Billy

One for the road

International Female Ride Day took place on May 7th. Mike and I are usually out riding anyway, so I was thrilled to hear that Classy Chassis was holding a ride in honour of the ladies. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Mike is not a chick! Well I decided to call Charlene, the GM at Classy Chassis, and ask if Mike could accompany us on the ride (to help me with photos as I wanted to participate as well as cover the ride). Her response was stellar. “As long as he honours you!” Mike’s response was (jokingly) ‘WTF is that??’ During the call, she also mentioned that there will be a few men at the event. Some women riders feel more comfortable with their husbands or boyfriends riding with them, and some women don’t ride bikes on their own. So, as Charlene put it, the women said, “The front of the bike

…..with Lil Red

is his, the back of the bike is mine.” The men were good with that. So we left the house to venture to Lakefield for the event. We had left with enough time to adjust our riding to the construction that was our thorough way towards Peterborough. What we didn’t plan for, was that the construction guys felt it necessary to wet the dirt, which took all the detailing I did the days before and shot it all to hell! Not only did the bikes get covered, but my NEW boots and my chaps. So, we had to make a pit stop to a car wash and hosed ourselves down. Good times lol. When we arrived, Charlene was meeting and greeting and discussing the ride. I admired the safety measures they took to keep us safe and to keep the ride together. (Thanks gentlemen)

Once the 11th hour hit, it was kickstands up. And that’s good cause I was hungry! Our first stop was Muddy’s BBQ Pit in Keene. If you haven’t been, then we’re no longer on speaking terms. They have a BBQ pit where they cook the food right there. Beef and chicken from the pit, and salads for a side. I love BBQ and after we ate, Charlene had bought cookies for us to try (Mike had stepped out and I wasn’t sharing!)

After a quick bite, we headed over to Doo Doo’s Bakery. It was about a 20 minute run, just enough time to make room for MORE FOOD! The scenery was spectacular. Fields and more fields, with a lake view thrown in for good measure. That’s all you saw as you tried keeping your mind off of the baked goods.

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 20

Now, I’m a big fan of our hometown bakery Dooher’s. But I’m always up to find other local places that offer treats should we be in the area. And Doo Doo’s did not disappoint. They had danishes, and butter tarts and some of the biggest filled lemon tarts I’ve ever had (and again, not shared). They’re also conveniently located across from a chip truck, which makes for a nice afternoon ride. (My destination usually involves some sort of food). Charlene did an amazing job at ensuring us riders were parked together. As well, she took one for the team and personally tasted the tarts prior to suggesting we try them. You know, just to make SURE that they were good enough. Thanks Charlene!! While in the bakery, we sat with Charlene and asked about the big 10th Anniversary BBQ Bash that they were having on May 28th. It peaked my interest as she said they were having a Blues Brother Tribute Band. That rocks! I was stoked just by that. Then she mentioned that Jason Thorne and his FMX stunt team were performing, and Urban Smoke’s BBQ would be there, and we all know my thoughts on the BBQ. Vendors will be there also, so really, why wouldn’t you go? Classy Chassis even has rooms secured at The Village Inn and Motel 6 for folks needing to stay the night. I didn’t know what to expect as we were heading to Craftworks and Antiques (At the Barn). I had honestly never heard of the place, let alone been there. Pulling in, there were other riders there as well as a large amount of vehicles. Inside, the place was huge. And well, I found the fudge and Mike and I bought it before we found anything else (hey, it’s a level of high importance) They had antiques, but they had a ton of gifts, clothes, treats, and beds even. You had to make your rounds twice

just to see most of it. Mike found some dill pickle peanuts (peanuts coated in a dill pickle chip) I gotta say, it was a taste sensation that first is, how can I say…eww. Then you think wait, maybe one more bite as it’s something that you just don’t know if ya like or not but you eat them cause they are dill pickle (at least I do). I still can’t decide if I like them or not! FOOD! Do I have your attention?? There is seldom an evening or weekend when Mike and I are not on our rides. I love the ride into Peterborough (I just got my new cowboy boots there) and I cannot hold back any longer regarding a quaint little diner on Highway 7 in Peterborough that we both agree, has the best damn

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 21

food in the Eastern Region. I dare you to find better! This little piece of delectable heaven is called PJ’s Diner. A throwback to the vintage, 50’s style diner we know and love. Once you enter, you’ll be greeted not only from the waitstaff, but from the owner Paul himself, and the Manager, Ray (who ALWAYS makes sure you’re happy with your meal). This Diner is a big fan of our biker community. A number of charity rides start and end here, and the Kawartha Riders Club meet at the downtown location for their monthly meetings. Mike and I have been going there for a couple of years now, religiously. They remember you, they remember your order and their food

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 22

is fantastic. It’s nice to find a place that’s genuinely pleasant to be in, and one that is also consistent in the food they deliver. And you’ll never wait longer than ten minutes from the time you step in til the time your plate reaches the table. From the traditional PJ’s Classic Breakfast, to Omelettes, skillets, premium burgers, poutine (with double milled curds), dogs, sandwiches, salads and hand-cut fries, there is a plate that everyone will enjoy. Ohhh, and deep fried mars bar are the big seller! My Mom even had their Liver and Onions (I’m a big suck-ass and say nope to Liver in general, but she raved about it). When you go..tell them I sent ya! You’ll be glad you did! Now my fine friends, to the upcoming events in June that I think you’ll enjoy. May 29th is the Ride for Hunger at the Market Square in Belleville. They have a really great ride, (through some small communities) and through beautiful Prince Edward County. They’ll be music, a silent auction and a BBQ! All-ways Apsley is having their Motorcycle Rendezvous on June 4 at the North Kawartha Community Centre. There’s a show ‘n shine, games and a guided ride. And I get to MC, so no throwing your under drawers at the stage!! The Quinte Ride for Paws Poker Run is on June 12, Centennial Park Amphitheater in Trenton. Now I’ve no idea how to play poker (quit laughing!) but I’ve been assured that poker knowledge is not necessary. They’ll help you at the end, so maybe I’ll be one of those lucky ones that has no idea what she’s doing with the cards, but wins anyway! Plus, you get baked goods at Sandy Pines, and some really fun entertainment. Oh, and Tam (the organizer with Derek) will need your support. And in support I mean, calm her the F*** down!! This woman needs a drink! She is ALWAYS on the go (she’s the one getting the mags out to our buddies on the base and around Trenton and Belleville). She is so passionate about this event, we gotta let her know it’s a success! (just kidding Tam!) July 2nd, Chrome on the Canal. Car, truck and bike enthusiasts love this event. Along the banks of the Trent Canal. Vendors, food, cars, trucks and MOTORCYCLES! July 3rd is the 2nd Annual Show ‘n Shine with the Brotherhood in Trenton. At the A&W, there is a 50/50 draw, vendors and NHL tough guy Shawn Antoski will be there. This one is for PSTD, near and dear. Dust off the bikes (and if you seriously have NOT done that yet, we’re no longer friends) and meet us there. If you wanna reach me, or have an event, let me know. Lilred@ theridersmag.com

Well that time of year is back, here in Northern Ontario. Street sweepers are out as riding season along with all sorts of charity rides to raise money for all the right reasons begins. I find it ironic that all these rides are competing for your donation dollars during the prime riding time. I’m not sure about the rest of you but during the weekends of June, July, August and even September, if I’m going to be out riding, one place that I’m not interested in riding is around town during these times. I would do that one evening during the week or on a weekend in May or October. Speaking for most people on a Mon-Fri work schedule that is…. I understand that it’s not everyone that can get up and leave for a two to three day run whenever the weekend comes around but the odds are that if a person gets a good weekend off, they would rather be out riding for 2-3 days instead of 2-3 hours. Having said that, another thing that has peeked my curiosity is why people that are expected to be professionals in their trade of choice and be specialists within their brands, just keep putting out less than standard work? Even after almost a year of issues and discussions, when a resolution seems to have been reached, it just never ends leaving the consumer to seek alternative methods or getting the job done right. This has prompted me to re-open my motorcycle modification shop and do right amongst the people that matter. With the new location in sight comes a whole new set up with more room and more options to get the work done right giving the motorcycle enthusiast out there another option than going to a dealer. So keep your eyes open for the re-opening of ModSupportInc in the near future. For all your motorcycle modification consultation and custom work. Another section of my column I would like to implement is following in the footprint of the OCC and to introduce our own Northern Ontario White List which identifies Biker Friendly Places and services in our neck of the woods. We all know that the Riders Mag is all about the people that make this community as great as it is and that is why I will be concentrating on more of the people than the places. All good or bad, good people work for them and those are the ones that will

be recognized. Most of the time, they have no say as to the work standards of their employer or their corporate decision makers… this month’s selection for the N.O.W.L. would have to be the great staff at Leatherworks Plus, the always smiling Andre at AuCoin variety and the intriguing patron at the Plaza Hotel. Although these are the first to be mentioned, they are not by any means the only ones we have in this awesome area of the province. Check back every month for more Biker Friendly people and their locations. Now onto the upcoming activities that deserve a special mention. First off, as mentioned in previous editions, we have the Elliot Lake Motorcycle Rally being held this June 4th in the beautiful town of Elliot Lake. Please go to their Facebook page and check out everything they have to offer. Save the date and plan to attend this great event that only gets better year after year! Also not to be missed is the Ride Manitoulin in beautiful Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island. They have an exciting new website at www.ridemanitoulin.net and what a great job they did with it. This weekend is not to be missed so save this date July 15th & 16th as well for some of the most beautiful riding you’ll do this summer. Another great event that I’m looking forward to is the Rocking On The River in Blind River, Ontario. This two day event is full of great music and activities that will keep you entertained for hours on end. Make sure to mark your calendar for July 30th and 31st and check out their website at www.rockingontheriver.com for the full schedule of events. Remember if you want me to report on your event and let people know about it, you must first get in touch with me to let me know. Otherwise, someone else might take up one of those few precious weekends that we have during our riding season in the north. Contact Guy at text/phone 705-6621526 or email ThatNorthernGuy144@ gmail.com.

This month’s feature shop is Lord’s Ink located at 9699 Jane St., Unit 18 in Maple Ont. Where they can boast a scenic Mountain View, Wonder Mountain that is, as they are directly across the road from Canada’s Wonderland where they have been for the past two years under this ownership. Lord’s Ink is the latest of three studios Worldwide with the other two located in England and Thailand and a visit to their Facebook page, Instagram or website will show you an extensive display of their amazing work and some comments from their many of satisfied customers. They occupy the back half of the unit, in a bright, comfortable, nicely decorated space. while a really classy head shop operates out of the front. It is a great set up with customer comfort in mind as they have wide screen televisions at each station so that customers can occupy themselves and be entertained during those long sessions in the chair. Owner, Roger Wilson-Singer has been doing tattoos for the past 21 years, starting at Ink Fetish in Barrie and has done some extensive travelling throughout the World to broaden his horizons and scope while expanding his knowledge and perception to improve his craft and enhance his talents. As Roger puts it, “You’re never done learning.” He lived in Thailand for three years and has become very proficient in Asian style tattoos as his huge portfolio

of some fantastic looking dragons, Koi fish and other imagery of that genre can attest to. He specializes in fine detail work and realistic themes and has also done some amazing portrait work that adorns bodies all over the World. He has had his work featured in several magazines and won many awards over the years. Jordan Petricca has worked alongside Roger in the studio and actually started as an apprentice at this location six years ago. He considers Roger as his mentor and friend and learned a lot from him. He has established himself here as an artist in his own right, bringing with him his own clientele, many of whom volunteered their hides as canvases when he was just starting out. While he can do all styles of tattoos, new and old style, black and greys his preference runs towards vibrant Bright colours that many of the younger clients who frequent the studio are looking for. Their different styles complement each other and give those coming to the studio a real choice in the art that they want to display on their person. This has been a good location for them and they have established a good reputation. Roger wants to further expand the reach of Lord’s Ink to yet another Canadian location at some point in the future, perhaps someplace closer to his home in Ancaster.

Update On Accident Victims Rights First, thanks to a reader who contacted me about my column in the April 2016 issue concerning the compensation available if you are injured in an accident. His question was: “Why am I paying a premium for income replacement benefits when I am retired? I would never qualify for those benefits so why should I pay the premium?” A partial answer is that, as mentioned in the previous article, one of the benefits available is “non-earner benefit”. This is a benefit payable to accident victims who do not qualify for income replacement because they were not working at the time required to qualify for income replacement. This would include someone who has been retired for more than 6 months at the time of the accident. The benefit pays $185 per week but only if you are injured so seriously that you suffer from a “complete inability to carry on a normal life”. That is a tougher test than the test for income replacement benefits. Also, the benefit is not payable for the first six months after the accident but it does continue for life. Also, I noted an error and omission in the list of benefits. First, I stated that the limit of medical and rehabilitation benefits available to persons who meet the qualifications for “catastrophic impairment” was $500,000.00. This is incorrect. The limit is $1,000,000.00. My bad. Also note that I forgot to mention a benefit that will be of importance to riders which is that your own insurance policy covers damage to your riding gear/clothing as part of the no-fault accident benefits package. Having set all that straight, now you should be aware that there are some important changes taking place effective June 1, 2016. This is part of an ongoing trend we have seen over the last several years where the benefits available to accident victims are reduced bit by bit every year. So the changes are: 1. Reduced limits for medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits. Up until May 31, 2016, the limit of medical and rehabilitation benefits for those whose injuries do not fall within the minor injury guideline but also do not meet the test of “catastrophic impairment” was $50,000.00 for 10 years. In addition you are entitled to attendant care benefits of up to $3,000/month to a maximum of $36,000.00. This means the combined limits of medical rehabilitation and attendant care benefits is $86,000.00. As of June 1, 2016, the combined benefits limit for medical and rehabilitation and attendant care will be $65,000.00. Also, the medical/rehabilitation benefit will only be available for 5 years (or to age 28 for minors) in-

stead of 10 years. This means that if you require both medical/rehabilitation benefits and attendant care benefits, the total amount available to you will probably be reduced. If you only require medical/ rehabilitation OR attendant care benefits but not both, then your limits might be increased subject to the reduced time they will be available. Similarly, up to May 31, 2016, a catastrophically injured person was entitled to medical and rehabilitation benefits of $1,000,000.00 and attendant care benefits of $1,000,000.00 making a combined limit of $2,000,000.00. Now the combined limit is reduced to $1,000,000.00. This is likely to lead to a reduction in overall benefits as it is quite likely that a person who suffers from a catastrophic impairment will require both medical and rehabilitation benefits as well as attendant care benefits 2. Non-earner benefits. Up until May 31, 2016 non-

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 25

earner benefits were payable for life. After June 1, 2016 they will only be available for two years. However the waiting period to receive those benefits will be reduced from six months to four weeks. 3. Other important changes are that it is going to become much more difficult to qualify for catastrophic impairment benefits and limits and it will be more difficult to qualify for certain goods and services. These changes make it even more important to seriously consider the optional benefits that are available. Contact your insurance broker or agent. As indicated, these changes are part of an ongoing trend of yearly reduction in the benefits available for victims of motor vehicle accidents. That is only part of the major changes taking place that will place greater burdens on accident victims. Of course we are all concerned about insurance premiums, but we should also be very concerned about compensation that is available to those that need it. Just ask someone who has been injured in an accident, or

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 26

has a family member who has been. I will be discussing the nature and effect of these changes and my take on the problems with the auto insurance system in a future column. When he comes round 3 days later in hospital the surgeon says: “I’ve got good news and bad news..... The bad news is you have had 2 pints of African blood and 2 pints of Muslim blood”. Fred screams “What the hell is the good news then?” “Your penis is 6” longer and you are top of the housing list.” Guess I Need Sensitivity Training I was devastated to find out my wife was having an affair, but, by turning to religion, I was soon able to come to terms with the whole thing. I converted to Islam, and we’re stoning her in the morning. The wife suggested I get myself one of those penis enlargers, so I did. She’s 25, and her name’s Kathy. Went to our local bar with my wife last night. Locals started shouting “pedophile!” and other names at me, just because my wife is 24 and I’m 50. It completely spoiled our 10th anniversary. My son was thrown out of school today for letting a girl in his class give him a hand-job. I said “Son, that’s three schools this year! You’d better stop before you’re banned from teaching altogether.” The cost of living has now gotten so bad that my wife is having sex with me because she can’t afford batteries. A man calls 911 and says “I think my wife is dead.” The operator says, “How do you know?” The man says, “The sex is about the same, but the ironing is piling up!” I was explaining to my wife last night that when

A retired man went into the Job Center in Downtown Regina, and saw a card advertising for a Gynecologist’s Assistant. Interested, he went in and asked the clerk for details. The clerk pulled up the file and read; “The job entails getting the ladies ready for the gynecologist. You have to help the women out of their underwear, lay them down and carefully wash their private regions, then apply shaving foam and gently shave off the hair, then rub in soothing oils so they’re ready for the gynecologist’s examination. The annual salary is $65,000, and you’ll have to go to Moose Jaw.” “Good grief . . . Is that where the job is?” “No sir... that’s where the end of the line is right now”. A mother took her five-year-old son with her to the bank on a busy lunchtime. They got behind a very fat woman wearing a business suit complete with pager. As they waited patiently, the little boy said loudly, ‘Gee, she’s fat!’ The mother bent down and whispered in the little boy’s ear to be quiet. A couple of minutes passed by and the little boy spread his hands as far as they would go and announced; ‘I’ll bet her butt is this wide!’ The fat woman turns around and glares at the little boy. The mother gave him a good telling off, and told him to be quiet. After a brief lull, the large woman reached the front of the line. Just then, her pager began to emit a beep, beep, beep. The little boy yells out, ‘Run for your life, she’s backing up!! A US Marine enters the Catholic Church confessional booth in Hendersonville, NC. He tells the priest, “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.

Last night, I beat the ever-living crap out of a flag burning, Cop hating, Muslim Jihadist.” The priest says, “My son, I am here to forgive your sins, ... Not to discuss your community service !!! Last Wednesday a passenger in a taxi heading for the airport leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the shaking driver said “Are you OK? I’m so sorry, but you scared the living daylights out of me.” The badly shaken passenger apologized to the driver and said, “I didn’t realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly.” The driver replied, “No, no, I’m the one who is sorry, it’s entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab. I’ve been driving a hearse for 25 years.” If you ever testify in court, you might wish you could have been as sharp as this policeman. He was being cross-examined by a defense attorney during a felony trial. The lawyer was trying to undermine the police officer’s credibility..... Q: ‘Officer --- did you see my client fleeing the scene?’ A: ‘No, sir. But I subsequently observed a person matching the description of the offender, running several blocks away.’ Q: ‘Officer, who provided this description?’ A: ‘The officer who responded to the scene.’ Q: ‘A fellow officer provided the description of this socalled offender. Do you trust your fellow officers?’ A: ‘Yes, sir. With my life.’ Q: ‘With your life? Let me ask you this then officer. Do you have a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties?’ A: ‘Yes sir, we do!’ Q: ‘And do you have a locker in the room?’ A: ‘Yes, sir, I do.’ Q: ‘And do you have a lock on your locker?’ A: ‘Yes, sir.’ Q: ‘Now, why is it, officer, if you trust your fellow officers with your life, you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with these same officers?’ A: ‘You see, sir, we share the building with the court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room.’ The guys at the golf course asked me to name an actress I would like to be stuck in an elevator with. I told them the one who knows how to fix elevators. A slave call girl from Sardinia named Gedophamee (pronounced Get-off-me) was attending a great but as yet unnamed athletic festival 2500 years ago in Greece . In those days, believe it or not, the athletes performed naked. To prevent unwanted arousal while competing, the men imbibed freely on drink containing saltpetre before and throughout the variety of events. At the opening ceremonial parade, Gedophamee observed the first wave of naked magnificent males marching toward her and she exclaimed: “OH!! Limp pricks!” Over the next two and a half millennia that morphed into “Olympics”.

Most of our generation of 60+were HOME SCHOOLEDin many ways. 1. My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE. “If you’re going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.” 2. My mother taught me RELIGION. “You better pray that will come out of the carpet.” 3. My father taught me about TIME TRAVEL. “If you don’t straighten up, I’m going to knock you into the middle of next week!” 4. My father taught me LOGIC. “ Because I said so, that’s why .” 5. My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.”If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you’re not going to the store with me.” 6. My mother taught me FORESIGHT.”Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.” 7. My father taught me IRONY. “Keep crying, and I’ll give you something to cry about.” 8. My father taught me about JUSTICE . “One day you’ll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you!” A man goes to a shrink and says, “Doctor, my wife is unfaithful to me. Every evening, she goes to Larry’s bar and picks up men. In fact, she sleeps with anybody who asks her! I’m going crazy. What do you think I should do?” “Relax,” says the Doctor, “take a deep breath and calm down. Now, tell me, exactly where is Larry’s bar?” I’ve learned that pleasing everyone is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake. Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked, “How many of you have forgiven your enemies?” 80% held up their hands. The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one man, an avid golfer named Walter Barnes, who attended church only when the weather was bad. “Mr. Barnes, it’s obviously not a good morning for golf. It’s good to see you here today. Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?” “I don’t have any,” he replied gruffly. “Mr. Barnes, that is very unusual. How old are you?” “Ninety-eight,” he replied. The congregation stood up and clapped their hands. “Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?” The old golfer tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of the pulpit turned around, faced the congregation, and said simply, “I outlived the bastards.” A minister told his congregation, “Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17.” The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, “Mark has only 16 chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying.” stop crossing your eyes, they are going to get stuck that way.” 19. My mother taught me ESP. “Put your sweater on; don’t you think I know when you are cold?” 20. My father taught me HUMOR. “When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don’t come running to me.” 21. My mother taught me HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT. “If you don’t eat your vegetables, you’ll never grow up.” 22. My mother taught me GENETICS. “You’re just like your father.” 23. My mother taught me about my ROOTS. “Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?”

The Dreaded Call: My boss phoned me today. He said, “Is everything okay at the office?” I said, “Yes, it’s all under control. It’s been a very busy day, I haven’t stopped. “Can you do me a favor?” he asked. I said, “Of course, what is it? “Pick up the pace a little. Classy Chassis Calendar Feature Classy Chassis is a fantastic motorcycle shop, located in beautiful Lakefield right on the 8th Line of Smith. It is a very impressive property, well maintained, with an enormous parking lot and several large orange and black buildings that don’t look at all out of place in this picturesque location. They are currently celebrating their tenth year in business and looking forward to many more as they have experienced rapid and continuous growth since owner Jon Burman decided that he wanted to own a Motorcycle Shop back in 2006. What now exists isn’t what was initially planned as things progressed from modest beginnings, and just evolved step by step, prospering over the years and one thing would lead to another and then on to what it is today. A thriving business, that continues to flourish and grow and they are far from finished growing yet. I will do my best to map out the evolutionary process for you as I found it to be fascinating, inspirational and a testament to what hard work and determination can do and the fact that there is something out there that isn’t always predetermined and dictated by the “Big Boys”. Jon was and is, a master electrician who had a passion for motorcycles, Harley-Davidson motorcycles to be precise, of which he owned five or six. He was perplexed by the amount of money that he was paying for insurance on each and every bike as he could only ride one at a time. Trimming back his prized collection wasn’t even a consideration as he loved each and every one of them and couldn’t and wouldn’t part with any!

The Insurance Company wouldn’t cut him any slack, so Jon, being the resourceful guy that he is, decided that if he was a motorcycle dealer he could insure all those bikes as part of his fleet and that might solve the problem. He had this property up in Lakefield and went about applying for his OMVIC licence (A process that would take seven months to complete.) and started his quest for a dealership. Jon soon discovered that getting a dealership from one of the big manufacturers wasn’t that easy and upon further investigation came to the realization that any and all of these dealerships, if obtained, came with many restrictions, rules and stipulations. He knew his sense of individuality and independent spirit would not do well under those conditions and would only lead to problems down the road and would instead blaze a different path better suited to his entrepreneurial personality and drive. He recruited a long-time friend and business associate Andy Anshen to help him with the fledgling business as he had many business skills and banking acumen that would be essential to make this work. They started with a 1000 square foot building and six used Harley-Davidson motorcycles and they were on the move. By the time that they had accumulated thirteen Harleys, Andy pointed out that they now had more used Harleys than any other dealers in the area, including the “Authorized Dealers” so they claimed for themselves the title of the “Biggest Used Harley-Davidson Dealer”. They approached another friend Ben who owned Ben’s

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 35

Motorcycles, a used motorcycle shop and dealer down in Cobourg to do their repair and service work for them and they would transport bikes between the two shops and that served them fairly well for a while until Ben’s lease for his shop became due and he indicated to John that he was looking for another location. This is when Jon looked to the adjoining property that had a large building on it that had served as an RV dealer but now sat empty and could do the job quite nicely. He floated Ben the idea of taking over that property and doing sales out of the one building and service out of the other. That seemed like a natural fit, as they already had a good business relationship and it made sense to do it all out of the one location. The property was purchased and major renovations were done to make it suit their needs and Ben’s Motorcycles became a division of

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 36

Classy Chassis doing full service and sales out of the first building. This worked fine for a while, but the rapid growth of the business along with the accumulation of over 150 motorcycles put strains on that set up. They soon found themselves extremely cramped and also came to the realization that an enormous amount of time, resources, energy and money was being wasted each day by the process of moving motorcycles outside each morning just to give themselves room to work and then moving them all back in at the end of the day. Now Jon once again looked for a solution and found it at another adjacent property that was available and a 10,000 square foot building that would provide them space that would serve as a service and storage area and allow them plenty of room for future growth, was erected. The central building would become what it is now, a showroom area for clothing and accessories as well as a lounge area upstairs and a place to hold the many informative seminars and workshops that they put on throughout the year. The first building, now became the sales office, with Ben’s Motorcycles dealing with “Metric” motorcycles and accessories at one end and the other end reserved for Classy Chassis’ used Harley-Davidson’s at the other. They are also a dealer/distributor for “ZERO” Electric Motorcycles. That is how it now stands, but knowing Jon’s penchant for change and his distinct dislike of stagnation, neither I, nor anyone else who knows him or works for him will rule anything out. They are a full service shop that can work on any make and Model of motorcycle. They can do custom, ground up builds and performance work and the fully enclosed Dyno Room complete with a fifty inch monitor from which the customer can watch the process and see what is being done to their bikes from the comfort of the lounge area is very popular. They are also factory trained by MotoTrike to do complete Trike conversions. It is like a one stop shop for motorcyclists. Classy Chassis was not only garnering public attention but was drawing the Ire of some of the Authorized Dealers and beyond who raised some issues and managed to place some limited, restrictions and tried to place other stipulations on them but Jon isn’t easily dissuaded or intimidated and now the word “Unauthorised” is prominently and proudly displayed on the shirts worn by staff. They have assembled a fine crew, some of whom are actual family members like John’s daughter Charlene Hinan, who does an excellent

job as General Manager, showing incredible enthusiasm and drive. Her Husband/ Sales Manager - Josh Hinan, Charlene’s Son, Zak Munn who in now a first year apprentice, while the others like BJ Wilson in sales, Melodie Messina in retail, Paul Causton – Service Manager, Valerie Payne – Parts Specialist, Tennison Farrell, Bill Gray, and Bob Neveu who serve as Service Techs are more like extended family than employees. They all bring their individual talents and skills to the table but it is their ability to pool that individual knowledge and skill and function extremely well as a team that makes them all invaluable to the shop and their customers. It is a great working environment and all seem truly proud and happy to be part of the team and that translates into happy customers. I have omitted one name from the above list, that being Kandace Walt as she is the daughter of Andy Anshen who was such a huge part in the start-up of this

shop and one of the reasons that it is successful today as he helped put down a solid foundation on which to build. Andy passed away from a heart attack in 2008 and left a void in the hearts of all who knew him and especially with Jon and all from Classy Chassis who miss him dearly. When Jon received a resume from Kandace with explanation that she wanted to carry on where her Dad left off and keep his legacy alive, they were quick to welcome her into the family where she has established herself as one of the foremost experts in providing their customers with competitive financing and warranty rates that allow them to realistically and affordably have the bike of their dreams without destroying their budgets. Her Dad would be proud! They are all more like family and share one common denominator, a love for motorcycles and

a passion for riding. In fact, riding and a knowledge of what riding a motorcycle is all about is paramount and is a requirement for employment here. If someone who doesn’t ride is hired because of a certain expertise, it is stipulated from the start that they must attend and pass a motorcycle riding course that will be paid for by Classy Chassis. Classy Chassis is very active in the motorcycle community supporting as many events and charity rides from across the Province as they possibly can. They also host many very popular events on their property throughout the year. These, which includes their Annual Spring Barbecue (This year on May 28th) features stunt riders and other great entertainment with free admission and are open to all. The proceeds from food and refreshment sales as well as donations go to Trenton Military Family Resource Centre that assist the families of our deployed troops, troops returning from deployment and assist in the adjustments necessary to acclimate troops back into society and resume a normal lifestyle after deployment. They do weekly “Thursday Ride and Dinner” rides during the riding season and are always adding whatever they can that will benefit riders and to promote safety in the Motorcycle Community. Their seminars such as “The Road Captains Training Session” are extremely popular as well. Classy Chassis also hold what is The Largest Motorcycle Auction in Canada on their property every October, traditionally the next Saturday after Thanksgiving. This shop is truly amazing and is doing some very innovative and inspiring things here. Stop in and visit sometime.

E.C.M.U. This is a follow up from our January issue of The Riders Mag regarding the new E.M.S. unit started in our area. The Emergency Care Motorcycle Unit has been very busy training and raising funds. The unit is non-profit and is run by what the unit has raised and given by businesses and people. Darcy Urquhart a member of Canadian Motorcycle Cruisers (CMC) 017 approached Bank of Nova Scotia on Huron Line in Windsor and with bank manager Brenda Martinello came up with the idea of a bake sale to raise

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 38

money for an Automatic Emergency Defibrillator (A.E.D.) . The bank would match dollar for dollar raised. The ECMU team , the bank team and other volunteers on Feb. 19th held the bake sale. The sale was a big success raising 1800 dollars. The bank matched that dollar for dollar bringing the total to 3600 dollars. ECMU was able to buy not one but 2 A.E.D.’s for the group. Way to go everyone involved!!! The domino effect of this is that Brenda Martinello posted on facebook about how successful this event was and who ECMU are and what they do. This event caught the eye of Constable James Chauvin of the OPP Essex detachment . Constable Chauvin and Brenda are friends and also are both on the OPP Torch Ride committee. He was real impressed by the Facebook story about the ECMU. He knew of another AED that wasn’t being used. He contacted John Chisholm owner of Rose City Ford of Windsor. James approached John and told him about ECMU and sug-

gested to not let the AED go to waste. That maybe John could donate it to a worthwhile cause. John agreed. Then it was just a matter of coordinating a date and time when we could be there for the presentation. The day arrived April 25th. Kevin Gale along with Joanne Vucenovic and Rhonda Ridsdale all members of ECMU arrived at Rose City Ford for 11am. Soon John arrived to receive the group and to present to them a brand new AED. In return Kevin presented John with a certificate of appreciation from ECMU for the generous donation. A big shout out to these businesses and all the people involved. Congratulations to all for all the time and hard work. Good luck again to the members of ECMU. Always there for us but we hope you are never needed !! Keep the rubber side down ALL!!! Chil

Dirty Ernie’s Sporty

This month’s feature guy is Dirty Ernie and he is a guy who’s owned more bikes than even he can count anymore and he has a map in his garage of the places he has ridden to and frankly when it came time to ask the question where do you really want to ride to the question was more to the point of well you’ve been just about everywhere on this map of north America but there are a few areas where you haven’t done a lot of riding where have you not been that you really wanna get to? The answer was surprising and the question will get answered later. Erie grew up in the Dundas area on a farm on Governors Road and says that there was a clubhouse across the street from his high school and seeing guys riding choppers and customs back in the 70’s had really impressed

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 40

him. It inspired him to start riding in his teenage years and due to economics he road Triumphs and Japanese he says eventually his family moved into the core of Hamilton and he got a job in construction. He owned a pickup truck and a bike but had a yearning for a Harley. He saw an old WLC for sale in the newspaper in the early 80s when he was twenty something, the price was right and he phoned the number at 6am that morning to get the details on the bike. The owner said that he had ordered a brand new Decker from the dealer and he had sold the old civilianized flathead to a friend who backed out on him at the last moment and he couldn’t pick up his new ride till he sold the WLC. Ernie told him he wanted the bike but was on his way to

work and that he would stop by after work to close the deal, well the bike was very original 3 speed hand shift foot clutch spark advance etc. Ernie says it was this guy who named him Dirty Ernie cause when he came to get the bike he was covered in dirt from working construction all day and that the owner had to ride the bike to Ernie’s house cause he couldn’t ride the bike with all the unfamiliar controls. Ernie took that bike and rode it on small side streets in the city until he had mastered the gear shifting, foot clutching, spark advancing controls on the original bike making it a very busy ride. But he did master riding his first Harley and he was in love. Having worked construction back in those days, with a Dutch crew who were putting up 3 major subdivisions in the Ancaster area at the time, and he had started roofing back when he was in his teenage years and as a spinoff of his job framing in these new subdivisions he started taking on a few side jobs that grew from roofing to renovations to additions and eventually he says that he decided to start his own business. 1987 was a busy year for Ernie he started his own business which he named after his father’s Mount Hope farm, after that stint in the city back in the late 70’s the family did purchase another farm and move back out of the city but

Ernie stayed and in addition to starting his business he also purchased a house in the west end. If that wasn’t enough he also married a girl from Prince Edward Island. Well you probably guessed he had to sell that first love of his life his beloved WLC. They had rode the Maritimes for their honeymoon hauling the bike in the back of his truck and it was the beginning of his map of North America starting with the Cabot Trail, Prince Edward Island, the north and south shores of eastern Quebec. Over the years Ernie and his wife had 3 kids and when she complained that between his business and his bikes he wasn’t spending enough time with the kids he picked up a sidecar and had it added to one of the metric bikes that he owned back in the day and he regularly took the kids to school on the bike and also on popular local rides in the city. He had amassed an interesting collection of imports saying that ever since he was a teenager he had always owned a Triumph motorcycle and he had one of his originals. He had that large metric and over the years he had also picked up and restored a 37 BSA. Well he got the itch to have a Harley again so he decided that he needed to sell one of his bikes to get the cash he required to get himself back onto a Harley. He put all 3 up for sale saying that he

only wanted to sell one and whichever one sold first the others were off the market and of course when that old 37 went up for sale who other than Bar Hodgson showed up to add it to his extensive collection. Ernie says he paid what he was asking didn’t haggle and he bought himself a 99 Decker used from a dealer in Oshawa. He rode the hell out of the Decker until it got stolen out of a clients driveway, he picked up a 2001 firefighter special from Miami that had been drowned in a storm surge, he says he got about 40,000 miles out of that one before the motor needed rebuilding due to saltwater damage. Ernie rode that bike to Alaska, down the west coast, Sturgis, Laconia and trailered it several times to Daytona. Yes that is a sportster you see in the pictures, Ernie initially put the replacement WLC on the list but right before we were to do the shoot he caught a slick spot on snake road in the rain and dumped the bike so when I was hard up for a sportster he emailed me and said sorry bout the flathead but I have a sporty too. Sommer was nice enough to come and model on the bike in Ernie’s front yard. It’s too bad that space is limited here but Ernie dumped that firefighter bike in Arizona leaving the Grand Canyon on Route 66 when his group ran into a flock of free range sheep on the road, he never made it to Utah as he injured himself. He got the bike to Colorado to get new handle and crash bars to ride home. He fixed that bike up and sold it to his lead hand. He says there are two places he almost made it to on all his riding that he wants to get to one is of course Utah the other is Dawson City Alaska. Wish I had more space but who knows maybe Ernie’s story will continue.

‘30,000 kms and $30,000 does not make a biker. It’s what is on the inside. For example, my fluffy friend Cowboy and his lovely lady One Cent from Parry Sound, were busy this spring bottle feeding day old baby squirrels. One of these babies barely fit on a person’s thumb yet these two took turns getting up every few hours, every single night to thumb cuddle and bottle feed these babies. Now that is loyalty, compassion, and commitment! Thurst-T’s Cycle 60th Birthday Bash There are very few birthday parties that could possible compare to this one due to Wendy’s creative, crazy, unique idea. Wendy and her lovely assistant met me for lunch and included me in the customization of the scheme. It’s was a ton of fun to be part of this big surprise. What was the surprise you ask? Paul’s 60th Birthday Bash was a funeral theme. Wendy

was able to pull it all off from the custom arm bands, to the decor, to the casket, the long black “widow” dress, and all the way to the look-a-like Paul reincarnation. One of the attendees even obtained a “custom” hairdo for the event. This party definitely put the “fun” back in funeral. Paul knew there would be a big party but he certainly did not expect to attend his own funeral! While chatting with Paul’s Mom earlier in the evening I learned a lot about the infamous stunt motorcyclists. Paul was in the Guinness Book of World Records for jumping 15 cars on his motorcycle in 1978. The birthday cake highlighted this infamous World Record jump with two cakes with ramps and cars in between. Ironically, Paul was also a participant in Canada’s Worst

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 42

Driver in Season 6 - see the videos at http://www.isveni. com/canadas_worst_driver_s06. So we all learned that although Paul can jump 15 cars on a motorcycle, there is not one of those cars that he is capable of driving. It is also very likely that Paul also set a record for the number of “bleeps” in one episode during his Canada’s Worst Driver stardom. Even the cake was two cakes with ramps and cars in between depicting the infamous World Record jump. The party had everything including live music from the Carpet Frogs, a comedian (not Paul, an actual professional comedian), and a magician working the crowd all night. The minute the band started playing, people jumped up to dance. They danced to AC/DC and they danced to Conway Twitty, they just kept on dancing! As many of you know, Thurst-T’s Cycle has moved to a new and much better location in Collingwood, They have an entire building and their own parking lot and are located at 298 Pretty River Parkway. Stop in and say hello to Paul, the reincarnation! Halfway Lunch Halfway Lunch, A Ride for No Reason, has officially become an annual event with a name, a tag line, and even a sticker design! 65 stickers were made and 65 stickers were handed out. If anyone who was there still wants a sticker, I would be more than happy to run off a few more. Two years ago two people that were chatting online decided to meet for lunch, that was Ralph and I. At the time, I lived in the Owen Sound area and Ralph lived in Peterborough so halfway was somewhere around Barrie/Orillia. Last year Ralph and I decided to meet for lunch again and were joined by a few others from Parry Sound and Minden. I believe about 20 of us met last year for Halfway Lunch.

This year I thought it would be easier to create a facebook event then to contact everyone individually. As I started inviting people my online “friends”, I ended up thinking, what the heck, I’ll just invite everyone! Initially, I thought that maybe 40 would attend, but I was wrong, there were 80 people at Halfway Lunch this year!

And they came from all over SW Ontario to meet in Orillia for nothing more than lunch. They came from downtown Toronto, uptown Toronto, Kitchener, Parry Sound, Hanover, Peterborough, Cambridge, Innisfil, and more! There was one real little bitch that “popped up”. I didn’t even realize she was there until Daddy let her out of the bag and gave her a little food and water. What a cute little fender fluff! There were even some famous people there from Let’s Just Ride, HD ROC, and the lovely Brenda Devine from Rock 95! Keep your eyes open for next year’s Halfway

Lunch. It will happen on the first biker friendly weather weekend in April. We will meet in Orillia again next year, but everyone agreed that the location needs to be bigger and have a patio. And it will! Thank you to the Wild Hags and Giant for the company, and thank you Giant for hanging around half the day so I didn’t have to ride home alone. I don’t mind riding alone, but it’s always nice to have someone blasting the tunes for me as well. Thank you all for a very memorable first event of the season. Int’l Female Riders Day This year I had a date conflict so I could not do the Elora ride but I did meet the local girls in Hanover to see them off. Last year I left Hanover alone and met my good friend Marion in Teviotdale, This year the Wild Hags left Hanover with 8 bikes

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 43

and met Marion and the GTA (Greater Teviotdale Area) girls with 5 bikes in Teviotdale. The lucky 13 rode down to Elora to meet a total of 233 women from all over SW Ontario for the main ride. Even with the sketchy weather forecast the numbers were still over double from last year. There was one minor accident prior to the main ride that involved a few bikes but everyone is fine other than some minor injuries. The spirit of the injured women could not have been better. According to the posts, the worst part of the injuries were not being able to open a bag of chips and the struggle of pulling ones pants up. So if you see two ladies with bandaged thumbs, looking hungry, and not wearing any pants, please do the right thing and stop to help them. This year had another ton of door prizes, a food truck, music, a great ride, and more. A few got damp on the way home but that’s just part of the trip! The organizers would like to thank Mom, and all

the ladies who helped block on the run. According to organizers, this is no longer a ride, it is now and official event. Next year the location for the meet up and main ride will be the Fergus Arena. A paved area in the parking lot will be cordoned off just for the ladies and there will be two food trucks and vendors. There is no way I am missing two years in a row so I am already putting this one on next year’s calendar! Tiny’s Annual Fish Fry After my morning coffee with the girls in Hanover, I chatted with a few friendly people including Tom from the Road Relics, then headed off to Port Elgin for Tiny’s Annual Fish Fry. It started to drizzle as I headed over and even though I could have easily stopped at home on the way to switch to the van, I just didn’t want to. Besides, if you ride fast enough you hardly even get wet, so I twisted it a bit more and rode right out of the drizzle. It was obvious that something was going on at Tiny’s as the cars were already starting to line up on both sides of the highway, respectfully leaving the parking lot for the

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 44

bikers. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Grey/Bruce must be the best area in the entire world to ride. Everyone is biker friendly from young to old, rich to poor. They’ll walk down the highway in the rain just so the bikes can have the entire parking lot - and not complain about it either! The rain started coming down a bit when the fish started frying. But that did not dampen anyone’s spirits. During the light rain, many sat outside anyways to enjoy their meal and tell fish stories. The band played through rain while the parking lot continued to fill up with eye candy to look at and drool over. Watching the hydraulic side bag covers open and close at the push of a button was pretty damn neat!

Tiny had all kinds of things going on inside too including Vince Goodeve and Adam Pettengill painting right then and there. It was really cool watching the raffle prize come to life with VInce’s steady hand. I thought the beer fridge looked great then he added more depth, a bit of shadowing, and then it looked super great! Vince also created the art that was used to print the t-shirts for this event. If you missed out on a t-shirt, there are still some available, just contact Tiny! Rain or shine, it was great to see you all, new friends,

old friends, even the guy that delivers to my store was there! Thank you to Tiny and Muriel for making this happen every year. Keep up the great work! With the riding season well under way and summer fast approaching there are many events to be covered. This season I will be focusing on charity events and events that support the Rider’s Mag. I was a little disheartened to learn that some very profitable events that I mentioned last summer have no intention of supporting the Rider’s Mag. Those events no longer have my support. The Rider’s Mag has been here for us all for 17 years. That is a long time for a FREE magazine to survive. Support the ones who support you . . . and Ride On!’

It has been a really busy Spring thanks mostly due the incredible weather that Eastern Ontario has been blessed with and while the mornings can still be a little cool to get out on the road it hasn’t slowed many area riders down one bit. The third week in April we went up the Ottawa Valley to participate in a customer appreciation day that was held at Pete’s Sales & Service up Pembroke/ Petawawa way. Thanks to the good folks at Pete’s including Courtney Doran who is the general manager, they had invited Dave & Noella Kuhnle, founders of Ottawa’s Ride for Autism to be the host charity and to promote their event that is being held this year on July 16th and I would also like to send a special thanks to Sean Guest, aka Muffin of the Simple Men MC for putting the ride’s name forward. The sun may have been out but at 6:00 am in the morning it was still damn cold when we headed out but we were blessed by the traffic gods and we made excellent time moving up the valley. There were already some area riders there warming up with a hot coffee and Dave and Noella were already starting to set-up the grill and get ready so they could begin cooking hamburgs and hot dogs later in the morning for everyone. After several cups of coffee we shook off the shivers and started to put up the Mag rig. Just a few minutes in to it we were joined by Paul Boettger, who rode up by himself to pitch in and lend a hand. I also have to add that during all the preparation we were visited a number of times by Courtney who wanted to make sure we had everything

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 46

we need. Throughout the day various riders rode in and almost everyone of them got into the spirit of things and purchased a burger, or in many cases two. Among those to stop by to say hello were several members of the Snake River Simple Men MC. Not only does their club come down to Ottawa and area to support many other club’s events

and rides but they are becoming famous for their Snake River Rodeo (you will find an ad for it in this issue) which will be held this Sept 3rd, and keep in mind that many riders head up and camp Friday night and stay over Saturday night as well. As in past years I will be up there for at least the Saturday’s events and hopefully we will be able to stay over and enjoy the party which will include lots of good old fashioned Southern rock music brought to you by the band SOUTHBOUND.

Well after an enjoyable day up at Pete’s we packed up all our gear and headed back into Ottawa where I was actually going to try and throw a surprise birthday party for my wife Betty and attempting something like that is near impossible to do when she is almost always with me. Yet

thanks to the help of good friends and brothers I was able to make her think we were just ending off the day so she wouldn’t have to make supper when we got home. The following day called for getting up just as early and the weather was like the day before, nice and sunny but that cold breeze was brutal at times but that didn’t deter some area riders from taking part in the official declaration of May being Motorcycle Awareness Month. As I mentioned in last month’s column, May being declared Motorcycle Awareness Month in Ontario was due to the efforts of a group called S.O.A.R (Society of Ottawa Area Riders) and

once a year in Ottawa there is an official declaration made at City Hall. Some of the riders put up tables to promote events or rides they put on and Ray Bonner, from Pace Law Motorcycle Division even came all the way down from Toronto to take part. One of the tables that was set up belonged to the Dedicated Few RC who were not only there to support SOAR but also promoting the upcoming Children’s Treatment Centre’s Bike-A-Thon that will be starting out from St. Lawrence College in Cornwall on Saturday May 28th.. Hopefully not only motorcycle riders from the Ottawa area will head down to support this event but also many of the riders from the communities along the Seaway and up Hwy 31 will come out and take part in this worthy event. I should also add that the following day, Sunday May 29th the 5th Annual

2804 Dice Run for Air Cadets that is held in Casselman just east of Ottawa will be taking place providing another good reason to get out and enjoy some of the places and rides that our eastern region puts on. Please keep in mind that The Riders Mag (E.Ont) will be attending both these events, so please stop by and say Hello and check out our info table. The event at City Hall included a couple of motorcycle d e m o s performed by Doug Monroe, a number of speeches in which I was caught off guard where myself, the Mag and The Celtic Brotherhood were mentioned for our commitment to motorcycle community. I would be lying if I didn’t say I felt honored at the mentions. Once the official stuff was finished, a number of us decided to head down to have Sunday Brunch at Fatboy’s Southern Smokehouse. Apparently we weren’t the only people who decided to go to the Byward Market area to eat and trying to find even

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 47

a parking space for a motorcycle was like trying to find a gas station open in the middle of the night. Inside the food and the music took away all the frustration of circling the block to park and besides everyone eating way more than they should have. We all enjoyed ourselves sitting at the table tapping our fingers while Sherri

Harding and her band nailed one blues tune after another. Great morning with great people! On Saturday May 7th was the Annual Capital City Biker Church Swap Meet which over the years has become the unofficial event that signals riding season has started and the combination of a swap market, good food and entertainment, free tables to the vendors and only a $2.00 entrance charge which includes a draw near the end of the event, you couldn’t ask for a better place to be. Both floors were filled and there were vendors outside including some near the opening of the popular food area and as usual the surrounding streets in the area are filled with motorcycles. Over the years the Bikers Church has arranged with the local homeowners so on that one day of

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 48

the year they could close off the streets and allow motorcycle-only parking and at the same time keep everyone happy. When the weather cooperates as it did this year that meant there were a lot of motorcycles on the surrounding streets. Another special “feature” of this swap meet is the church has volunteers that wait outside and eagerly offer to assist vendors with getting their stuff inside to their tables. They also make it possible that the vendors can get to their vehicles and find a spot to park and get back to set up their tables. It’s a truly nice touch and do I wish all shows had a service like this and I thank the CCBC for making it happen. With the Boys from TCB setting up the booths that allowed me to wander around and greet early arrivals

which included Doug Taylor, his son James and Felix from Cycle Salvage who were sharing tables for a second year in a row and as usual they had some very interesting parts left over from builds or trades they have made over the winter months and now wanted to allow some other builder to put to use. Next to our booth was Dave & Noella Kuhnele from the Annual Ride for Autism in Ottawa which this year is being held on Saturday July 16th starting in Stittsville at Brown’s Your Independent Grocer and this event is informally hosted by TCB. One table over were two young ladies promoting the 2804 Dice Run in Casselman that I mentioned earlier and just beside them were Brother Mike Bossio & his lovely wife

Adele taking care of the booth for SOAR and promoting May is Motorcycle Awareness M o n t h . Sean Guest, Andrew Farnel and Duane Chevalier were manning the booth for the Simple Men MC and selling swap and just beside them Merlin had a couple of tables too. Downstairs was packed with tables and there were many familiar faces behind them including Perry Montgomery and other members of the DFRC who were managing a table for the Red Ribbon Ride down in Cornwall another project their club is active in. Nearby Bill Amell was set up with his B.A.K. Original Memorials of which I own several of them. I have one that holds some of the ashes of Garth, the wonder Doberman so that when I am going on a long distance trip somewhere Garth will be with me all the time. This item is attracting the attention especially of veterans who use service dogs for PTSD like I do because the bond survives often long after their dogs have gone on to Valhalla. The stage on the bottom floor as selling apparel from Peter North’s Sinister Chopper and It looked like they had even brought one of his dogs with them as well which is a pleasant reminder of Pete and how much he will be missed in the Ottawa area motorcycle community because no one made an exit like Pete did.

Back upstairs I figured I had better put some time behind the tables and chat with the public and do some promoting of the Riders Mag. I have to say that this year brought many faces that I had not seen in years and one of them was

a long time biker who happens to work for an insurance company (we will forgive him for that). While we were catching up we started to talk the subject which has been very near and dear to many in the Biker community the last

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 49

couple of weeks, the fires up at Fort McMurray. Now many of us have worked in Fort Mac or have friends and family who are still living and working up there and every day I see more and more biker groups and businesses organizing rides and events in order to raise money to help the people who have been victimized by the fires. Many clubs that have chapters in Fort McMurray have been doing all sorts of fund raising projects in order to help their Brothers up North. All these efforts to help the people in Alberta pretty well sums up what kind of people bikers and motorcycle riders are all about, Brotherhood and Sisterhood and having a clear understanding of what makes us special. Anyhow the more that my friend and I talked about the fires I found out that every day he has to deal with dozens upon dozens of phone calls from frantic people up in Northern

Alberta who are calling for help from their insurance company and he told me that many ask to get a car rental and there were just no rentals left anywhere. There are people worried about medicines they or their family members needed and the list went on and on and as he spoke I could see the sadness in his eyes, I knew it was killing him inside that he could not do more for them at this time. I remember how much I appreciate the hard way my Old Man brought me up because I always remember his life’s lessons about when you hug a brother and some days you aren’t sure who needs the hug more, you or them! Don Hutchinson dropped by and brought his young grandson out to his first swap meet and while I don’t think he cared about the people much he certainly got excited every time the band did a set and I think he was their greatest fan. Another bonus for the day was the visit I got from two of Ottawa’s motorcycle riding beauties, Marie-Paule Philion and Lucie Guilbault, who always get on either side of me for a picture and I title the picture ‘a thorn between two roses’ anyhow Marie-Paule created an calendar for 2016 of ladies who ride with the proceeds to help the MS foundation if I remember correctly and I have offered to help her this year with getting Light Weight No More Rust the new calendar ready for 2017. So don’t be surprised if you find me chasing many of you Better Fuel Economy down this Fall and hitting you up to buy one of them for a good cause. On a even happier note, Lucie is feeling much better these days and it is so nice to see www.actiontrailers.ca 1-866-885-2569 that smile of hers once again because PTSD 4728 Egremont Dr. Strathroy, ON ( 15 min. west of London ) after an accident can make life very hard to smile for a long time unless you are lucky

enough to get some help to deal with it and with so many bike riders living with accident acquired PTSD it is important we are there for each other and help in any way we can to help them recover. Another surprise at this year’s swap meet was our good friend Harold Gagnon, owner of MAKE IT ROAR MOTORCYCLES down in the Trenton area and where riders can pick up their copies of Mag from. He decided to bring up some swap and to take part in the meet. Look forward to seeing him later this summer at a few events we are doing in the Belleville/Trenton area. I had an unexpected visit from Don Flinn who kindly

because these are the same folks that will come to your rides and events! Also if you have an event or ride or if you are a business that deals with either motorcycles or he people who ride them...You might like to advertise or be a distributor for ‘The Riders Mag” and if so please contact me by email. thanked me for the mention I did after his sister and her husband were tragically killed while out riding on their motorcycle by someone who drifted into their lane and I was very disappointed at what the driver was charged with. I think that Don would like to create a memorial ride in their honor and at the same time, see that more is done about individuals that drive while being distracted. I look forward to hearing further details about the ride and will pass the information on to all of you. All and all I am pretty sure that everyone who took part in the CCBC Swap Meet felt that once again it was a success and I would like to thank all those folks from the church, especially all the volunteers who made the magic happen so that everyone is truly looking forward to next year’s event. Well I guess I have given some of what has happened and what is going to happen in the near future and I hope that many of you will follow me on Facebook in the group section as “The Riders Mag (Eastern Ontario”) & “Motorcyco Beau’s Motorcycle Biker Events and Rides In Eastern Ontario” so that I can keep you updated on any new event or changes in old ones or so you can contact me if your group or club is planning something. Also I want to remind all of you who ride to check with your insurance companies and find out if the extent of your present policy will or has changed from last year or may be affected by the new law that the province is enacting this coming June. Many people may think that their protection will remain the same because they didn’t ask for any changes but they may find the coverage amounts they had before might be decreased and they didn’t realize it. Just check and make sure.! As always I remind you to Please support events & rides that are created and run by area riders and their clubs

Suspended Sentence: Not Ex-Communicated But hey, no Catholics or Protestants were hurt in last month’s article. The fact remains, I have unexcommunicated a couple guys in the last few years but fortunately, the local Diocese has not caught wind of it. It’s really fun to let people know that they need not be out of touch with God by anyone’s doing other than their own personal decision to reject Him. Meanwhile, I consider myself under “suspended sentence”....more on that later... May and June are bike blessing service months for biker churches and Christian motorcycle ministries. I seriously believe that it’s a great thing for you to attend...get yourself and your bike blessed and ready for the season! Actually, this is the way that I do it: I have a prayer that asks the Creator to watch over you and whoever may ride with you on your bike. I anoint your bike with specially prayed over oil, a thousands of years old ceremony to bless people and their livestock (if I may classify your bike as “livestock”... after all, we ride an iron horse!). But there’s more to this blessing thing and it’s important. You see, it’s not all about protecting you on the road. This blessing tradition is more than a superstitious act to give you some luck on the highway. When you show up to get you and your ride blessed, you have already made a statement to God that you have at least a little faith that He will actually watch over you. As you have demonstrated some faith in Him, we also pray that you will come to some good on your motorcycle this year...and I know that all of you do at least one charity ride or event to help our community. Thus, you will be doing some good work that God will be pleased with! So if you’re going to show up to a bike blessing or charity ride with any of the Canada Bikers’ Churches or Ministries, you might as well get a suspended sentence along with me! You see, I walked away from the ministry and quietly rejected God over 25 years ago. I did not pray in any way for many years but I can look back and see that He was still watching over me! In Romans 5:8 we read, “While I was still a sinner, Christ died for me.” Even better, John 3:36 says ,”He who believes in the Son has eternal life.” Since Romans 6:23 tells us that “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” as you have expressed faith in the past, or do so now as you attend or have attended a bike blessing, by our faith, we have a suspended death sentence! Permanently suspended with no parole conditions. Please pray this prayer with me now: “Our Father in Heaven, please forgive me and keep me in your family like you promised. Thank you for the suspended sentence that I have because Jesus died and rose for all of us. Help my family and friends stay safe on the road this year. In Jesus’ name, amen.” Blessings to all of you! Ladies and their Harleys

This month’s feature girl is Lauri and she is the wife of feature guy dick from Chatham a few years ago with his custom FL Shovel with aftermarket fairing. An email came into the mags offices from Lauri and was forwarded to me by Al, I had a plan to do my annual feature shoot trip the last weekend of April as I had every other year for something like 16 or 17 years, but things were different this year. My mom had been struggling with leg problems and we were visiting the doctor on a daily basis forcing me to shorten my trip and ultimately cancel a few of my shoots due to a lack of time and ultimately I shortened the trip to an overnight Saturday to Sunday trying to get the 3 local bikes in. As it turned out the men’s vintage bike I was to

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 54

shoot was not ready as the tins were still not painted so down to Lauri and another gal. While I was on my way to Windsor Saturday afternoon I got a call that my dad was on his way to the hospital with pneumonia, so needless to say it was a whirlwind visit and I had wrongly assumed that when Lauri identified herself as Dicks wife that they were living where I had last shot dicks bike which was in Chatham but they had moved to Windsor as he retired and she is an urgent care nurse in the Windsor area who had previously worked in Michigan, She had done a lot of riding on the back of one of Dicks many bikes and decided that she wanted to take a shot at riding for herself and signed up for the riding course at St

Claire College in July of 2014. She says that it was a day and a half of riding it rained a lot and she flunked the exit test on Sunday because she did not complete the course in the allotted time but that she was invited to retest. Lauri was determined to ride and to pass the test so they located a sporty on Kijijii and when the purchased it learned that she was the 12th owner of this particular bike. She took the opportunity to practice her riding and when the particular instructors who had her course in July later in August she went in and paid her fee to do the retest and indeed passed her test upgrading from her beginners to the next level I think its M2? Sorry I never seem to get this stuff no matter how many people explain it too me. She put 10,000 kms on that bike over the summer of 2014 and 2015 saying her longest ride was to Kitchener to see her daughter and grand baby then a side trip to port Dover. Once she was certain that she loved riding her own bike more than being on the back of dicks bike she says that after the riding season was over at the end of the summer of 2015 she started searching extensively for an upgrade not being sure what she wanted or needed she took advice from Dick and looked at Switchbacks Road Kings and bikes of that ilk. I was surprised how much research and travel the two of them put into it and that they actually made a

trip to the dealer in the Chatham area to check out a bike only to find it had been sold earlier that same day, no loss she said as Dicks mom lives in Chatham and they went to check the bike out because they were going to visit her anyways. Next stop was a dealer just north of Detroit and apparently for a gal who worked in Michigan she forgot that the third weekend of November was Thanksgiving and they headed up to check out this very bike on the Wednesday afternoon of that very weekend arriving early afternoon just as the staff was preparing to lock up for the long weekend, lucky very lucky. They got the run of the store the grand tour and yes they put a grand down on this bike and picked it up before Christmas of last year. Part of what inspired Lauri to ride besides the fact that her husband is a lifelong rider was that they had done some ship fly and ride tours with friends through the local Harley dealership shipping all the bikes by transport to Las Vegas and all the riders flying into town and grabbing their bikes and going on a tour through southern Nevada, and northern California almost making to Los Angeles but then they had the good sense to avoid one of the world’s most famous traffic jam cities and all of us who ride know exactly how unpleasant it is to have a hot number two cylinder head roasting your right leg inner thigh as the heats

pours off the engine. The following year the group rode out through the mountains of Utah and Colorado which they say was exciting and Lauri lost her cell phone while taking a selfie, yes a selfie while riding she took one every morning she said and fortunately for her they were on back roads when she lost her phone, none of their companions where behind them and the phone landed in the middle of the road as opposed to the ditch or down the side of the mountain so she was able to recover the phone and the otter box did its job she is still using the phone to this day. This year’s trip was earlier in the season and she could not get the time off work so she and Dick are riding to the Boston area from Windsor on their bikes planning to travel back roads from Buffalo along the north side of the Finger Lakes ultimately heading into Boston where Lauri has a cousin who is also a nurse that she would like to catch up with then tour the new England area for their two weeks of vacation until it’s time to return to reality. Lauri says her bike is perfect and she has a touring set for the bike with a backrest and Dick tows a trailer behind his Road Glide so she doesn’t need a lot of intense baggage but she says she is jealous of his cruise control. If she upgraded it would be another deluxe with cruise control other than that she’s happy. Her dream trip is a working vacation through the southern United States working 3 month stints in various hospitals across the south during the cold winter months moving more north when it gets warmer, she’s says it’s a complete possibility because she has worked in the states before, Dick is retired she’s just waiting for her youngest to leave home then it’s a go, cool plan.

be a problem for us, you’d better say so now!” Linda took a deep breath and responded, “Ed, that certainly won’t be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we’re being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I’ve been a hooker.” Ed said, “I bet it’s because you’re not keeping your wrists straight when you swing your golf club”

Every time he ate one, he spat the tail in her direction, requiring her to deflect it. Eventually, she had enough, and pulled the Emergency Cord. The Muslim looked at her and said, “You’ll get fined $250 for doing that, you stupid Catholic bitch.” She laughed and said, “When I cry out rape and they smell your fingers, you’ll get 10 years, you towel headed camelfucker.” Ed and Linda met while on a singles cruise and Ed fell head over heels for her. When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few miles apart Ed was ecstatic. He immediately started asking her out when they got home. Within a couple of weeks, Ed had taken Linda to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums. Ed became convinced that Linda was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last. On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise ship, Ed took Linda to a fine restaurant. While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ed said, “I guess you can tell I’m very much in love with you. I’d like a little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage. So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it’s only fair to warn you, I’m a total golf nut. I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and breathe golf. If that’s going to

He sits down next to her, and asks her: “Can we have sex?” “No,” she replies, “I’m married to God.” She stands up, and gets off at the next stop. The bus driver, who overheard, turns to the hippie and says: “I can tell you how to get to have sex with her!” “Yeah?” says the hippie. “Yeah!” says the bus driver. “She goes to the cemetery every Tuesday night at midnight to pray, so all you have to do is dress up in a robe with a hood, put some of that luminous powder stuff in your beard, and pop up in the cemetery claiming to be God.” The hippie decides to give it a try, and arrives in the cemetery dressed as suggested on the next Tuesday night. “I am God,” he declares to the nun, keeping the hood low about his Face. “Have sex with me.”

THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 56

The nun agrees without question, but begs him to restrict himself to anal sex, as she is desperate not to lose her virginity. ‘God’ agrees, and promptly has his wicked way with her. As he finishes, he jumps up and throws back his hood with a flourish. “Ha-ha,” he cries. “I’m the hippie!” “Ha-ha,” cries the nun. “I’m the bus driver! Why Italian Fathers and Grandfathers pass their handguns down through the family? An old Italian man is dying. He calls his grandson to his bedside, Guido, I wan’ you lissina me. I wan’ you to take-a my chrome plated .38 revolver so you will always remember me.” “But grandpa, I really don’t like guns. How about you leave me your Rolex watch instead?” “You lissina me, boy. Whatta you gonna do then? Pointa to you watch and say, ‘times up’ “? This morning I lucked out and was able to buy several cases of ammo. On the way home I stopped at the gas station and this drop dead gorgeous blonde was filling up her car at the next pump. She glanced over and looked at the ammo in the back of my car and said in a very sexy voice, “I’m a big believer in the barter system, big boy. Would you be interested in a trade of sex for ammo?” I thought it over for a few seconds and responded.....”Maybe. How much ammo ya got?” Diamond D’s brothel began construction on an expansion of their facilities in response to an increase in their evergrowing business, whereupon the local Baptist Church , across the street, started a campaign to block the whorehouse from expanding -- with morning, afternoon, and evening daily prayer meetings. Work on Diamond D’s progressed right up until the week before the grand reopening when lightning struck the whorehouse and burned it to the ground! After the fire, the church folks were rather smug in their outlook, bragging about “the power of prayer.” So, late last week, ‘Big Jugs’ Jill Diamond, the brothel’s owner/madam, sued the church, the preacher and the entire congregation on the grounds that the church “was ultimately responsible for the demise of her building and her business -- either through direct or indirect divine actions or means.” In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied any and all responsibility or any connection to the building’s demise. During the trial, the crusty old judge read through the plaintiff’s complaint and the defendant’s reply and then declared, “I don’t know how the hell I’m going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork that we now have a whorehouse owner who staunchly believes in the power of prayer and an entire church congregation that thinks it’s all bullshit!”

there. They’ve got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest crime rate.” Jack replied, “I’ve lived in Detroit all my life. It’s not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, enroll your kids in a nice private school. It’s as safe a place as anywhere in the world.” The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, “Oh, thank you. I’ve been worried to death. But if you live there and say it’s OK, I’ll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?” “Me, I’m the tail gunner on a Budweiser Truck.” President Obama goes to a primary school to talk to the kids. After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand, and Obama asks him his name. “ Walter,” responds the little boy. “And what is your question, Walter?” “I have four questions” First, “Why did the USA Bomb Libya without the support of theCongress?” Second, “Why do you keep saying you fixed the economy when it’s actually gotten worse?” Third, “Why did you say that Jeremiah Wright was your mentor, then said that you knew nothing about his preaching and beliefs?” Fourth, “Why are we lending money to Brazil to drill for oil, but America is not allowed to drill for oil?” Just then, the bell rings for recess. Obama informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess. When they resume Obama says, “OK, where were we? Oh, that’s right: question time. Who has a question?” Another little boy puts up his hand. Obama points him out and asks him his name.

Jack was sitting on the plane when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear. “What’s the matter?” Jack asked. “I’ve been transferred to Detroit, there’s crazy people

“Steve,” he responds. “And what is your question, Steve?” Actually, I have two questions. First, “Why did the recess bell ring 20 minutes early?” Second, “What the fuck happened to Walter? A Priest was about to finish his tour of duty, and was leaving his Mission in the jungle where he has spent years teaching the natives when he realizes that the one thing

he never taught them was how to speak English. So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and says to the chief, “This is a tree.” The chief looks at the tree and grunts, “Tree.” The Priest is pleased with the response. They walk a little further and he points to a rock and says, “This is a rock.” Hearing this, the chief looks and grunts, “Rock.” The Priest was really getting enthusiastic about the results when he hears a rustling in the bushes. As they peek over the top, he sees a couple of natives in the midst of heavy sexual activity. The Priest is really flustered and quickly responds, “Man riding a bike.” The chief looks at the couple briefly, pulls out his blowgun and kills them both. The Priest goes ballistic and yells at the chief that he has spent years teaching the tribe how to be civilized and be kind to each other, so how could he kill these people in cold blood that way? The chief replied, “My bike.” A blonde with two red ears went to her doctor. The doctor asked her what had happened to her ears. She answered, “I was ironing a shirt and the phone rang, but instead of picking up the phone, I accidentally picked up the iron and stuck it to my ear.” “Oh dear!” the doctor exclaimed in disbelief. “But what happened to the other ear?” “The son of a bitch called back!” One hot summer day, a blonde came to town with her dog, tied it under the shade of a tree, and headed into a restaurant for something cold to drink. Twenty minutes later, a policeman entered the restaurant and asked, ‘Who owns the dog tied under that tree outside?’ The blonde said it was hers. ‘Your dog seems to be in heat’ the officer said. The blonde replied, ‘No way. She’s cool ‘cause she’s tied up under that shade tree.’ The policeman said, ‘No! You don’t understand. Your dog needs to be bred.’ ‘No way,’ said the blonde. ‘My dog doesn’t need bread. She isn’t hungry ‘cause I fed her this morning.’ The exasperated policeman said, ‘NO! You don’t understand. Your dog wants to have sex!’ The blonde looked at the cop and said, ‘Well, go ahead. I always wanted a police dog.’ A man is walking behind his wife and says, “Baby you are so fat now your bum looks like a washing machine.” The woman keeps quiet and keeps walking. Bed time, the man is asking for sex. The woman replies, “I’m not starting the washing machine for such a small load. You’ll have to hand wash it!”

A little boy goes shopping with his mother and is waiting right outside of the ladies dressing room for his mom to come out. While waiting, the little boy gets bored and just when his mom comes walking out, she sees her son sliding his hand up a mannequin’s skirt. “Get your hand out of there!” she shouts. “Don’t you know that women have teeth down there?” The little boy quickly snatches his hand away and thanks his lucky stars he didn’t get bitten. For the next ten years, this little boy grows up believ-

ing all women have teeth between their legs. When he’s 16, he gets a girlfriend. One night, while her parents are out of town, she invites him over. After an hour of making out and grinding on the sofa, she says, “You know, you could go a little further if you want.” “What do you mean?” he asks. “Well, why don’t you put your hand down there?” she says, pointing to her crotch. “HELL NO!” he cries, “You’ve got teeth down here!” “Don’t be ridiculous,” she responds, “There’s no such thing as teeth down there!” “Yes there are,” he says, “My mom told me.” “No there aren’t,” she insists. “Here, look for yourself.” With that, she pulls down her pants and gives him a little peek. “No I’ m sorry” he says. “My mom already told me that ALL women have teeth down there.” “Oh for crying out loud!” she cries. She whips off her panties, throws her legs behind her head and says, “LOOK, I DON’T have any teeth down there.” The boy takes a good long look and replies, “Well, after seeing the condition of those gums, I’m not surprised!” I received a phone call from a gorgeous ex-girlfriend who this morning called ‘out-of-the-blue’ to see if I was still around. We lost track of time, chatting about the wild, romantic times we used to enjoy together. I couldn’t believe it when she asked if I’d be interested in meeting up and rekindling a little of that “old magic”. “Wow!” I was flabbergasted. “I don’t know if I could keep pace with you now”, I said, “I’m a bit older and a bit greyer and balder than when you last saw me. Plus I don’t really have the energy I used to have.” She just giggled and said she was sure I would “rise to the challenge”. “Yeah.” I said. “Just so long as you don’t mind a waistline that’s a few inches wider these days! Not to mention my total lack of muscle tone...everything is sagging, my teeth are a bit yellowed and I am developing jowls like a Great Dane!” She laughed and told me to stop being so silly. She teased me saying that tubby, gray haired, older men were cute, and she was sure I would still be a great lover. Anyway, she giggled and said, “I’ve put on a few pounds myself!” So I told her to fuck off I went to the Dr’s office the other day at my wife’s request and found that our new family doctor is a young female; friggin dropdead gorgeous - wow! I was a bit uncomfortable but she said, “Don’t worry, I’m a professional - I’ve seen it all before. Just tell me what’s wrong and I’ll carefully check it out.” I said, “My wife thinks my penis tastes funny.”

ment in Copacabana, a mansion in Paris, a jet to travel through Europe, an Infinite Visa Card, and to make love to her three times a day”. The teacher, shocked, and not knowing what to do with the bad behavior of this child, decides not to give importance to what he said and then continues the lesson: And you, Tanya? “I wanna be Lil’ Johnny’s bitch!” Father O’Malley answers the phone. ‘Hello, is this Father O’Malley?’ ‘It is!’ ‘This is the Internal Revenue Service . Can you help us?’ ‘I can!’ ‘Do you know a Ted Houlihan?’ ‘I do!’ ‘Is he a member of your congregation?’ ‘He is!’ ‘Did he donate $10,000 to the church?’ ‘He will.’ An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues: Man: ‘I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitch-hiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them three times.’ Priest: ‘Are you sorry for your sins?’

Teacher asks the kids in class: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Lil’ Johnny: “I wanna be a billionaire, going to the most expensive clubs, take the best bitch, give her a Ferrari worth over a million bucks, an apart-
