Comments: the doll portrays Rita Hayworth as Carmen, inspired by the 1948 film “The Loves of Carmen”, according to the original fan-shaped paper tag and the original box. 394. Two American Composition Dolls “Sabu” by Molly-E in Original Costumes 14” (36 cm.) Each is all-composition doll with siennabrown complexion, painted facial features, dark eyes, full rich lips, five-piece body, wearing original silk and velvet

(paper label). Comments: Chad Valley, circa 1935, portrait doll of the future Queen as a young Princess. Value Points: the doll is wearing her original coral rayon dress with tiered ruffle skirt and sleevelets, original undergarments, shoes and socks. $400/500

396. Three American Cloth Character Dolls from “Little Lulu” by Georgene Novelties 12” (30 cm.) and 14”. Each is all cloth with pressed and printed mask face to depict characters from the “Little Lulu” comic strip series, each with stylized facial features, large O-shaped black eyes, comma brows, button-shaped tiny nose, and having flannel caps as back hair and tufts of yarn forming hair at the crown, stitch-jointed peach muslin body, sewn-on red socks and black shoes. Condition: generally excellent, some fading of costumes. Comments: included are Little Lulu, Tubby Tom and Alvin, from the original illustrations by Marjorie Buell, the dolls by Georgene Novelties, circa 1951. Comments: Erste Steinbacher, circa 1923, the firm was then under the direction of Robert Carl and Gustav Heubach (hence the GH initials); the firm had been in existence since 1900 under various owners. Only two characters have been identified: 500 and 510. Value Points: very rare painted eye character with well-defined pouting expression, original body, wig and costume, and with little toy fleeced lamb. $1100/1400
