Interview with Marc Vermeulen 1. How long have you been involved with French Bulldogs? I have been involved in the breed since 1997 I only have the French Bulldog and no other breeds. I’m born and raised in Holland but live together with my partner, Maria Vrancken, since 2003 in the village Balen in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. 2. Why have you decided to advertise on cover of French Bulldog Magazine? I have decided to advertise because, because I want to share our dogs with the rest of the world, and I admire your magazines 3. What features of the breed do you like most? I really am a head type, i like the good up turned under jaw, with good bone structure and balanced well moving type.

Interview with Marc Vermeulen 4. Are you handling your own dogs and what tips do you have for new handlers? I always handled my dogs myself, because for me it’s a privilege to handle them, my general advise is : Make sure that you have a bound with your dog then he/she well work for you and present itself, free moving dogs with lose leads. 5. Which French Bulldog from the past do you admire most? Of all the beautiful dogs I have bred/owned and handled i have 2 all time favorites ( don’t know what the feature brings) Multi Ch. Charlothe van Marvers Fortuna and Mult. Ch Lazzaro van Marvers Fortuna.

Interview with Marc Vermeulen 6. Are you judging French Bulldogs? I have judged in Italy at the CBFI in September 2018 where 116 French Bulldogs were entered , I have given a 9 month old female Best of Breed. 7. Are you concerned about all the noise from the Dutch Kennel Club and others? Do you think the future of the breed is in jeopardy? Off course I'm concerned about the development of the breed because the latest years the quantity was bigger then the health and quality, the breed got to popular and everywhere people start breeding this beautiful but difficult breed without knowledge. Judging in Italy

Interview with Marc Vermeulen But I am positive because the people who have a good heart for the French Bulldog will keep up the good work. Unfortunately the unhealthy dogs came in the media without seeing the healthy ones. 7. Are you a member of the Board of French Bulldog Club in Belgium? I have been a member of the board of the Belgium French Bulldog club (KBKFB) from 2015-2018.

The French Bulldog Club of England The French Bulldog Club of England’s committee, has decided that they will no longer issue certificates or validate any health tests that are returned to them for Non-Recognised Colour French Bulldogs. This took affect from the 31st March 2019. The 4 standard colours are: Brindle Fawn Pied (brindle and white) Fawn Pied (fawn and white) The Club feels strongly that they are there to maintain the tradition of the standard colours and in awarding certificates, their members feel that they are validating the breeding of nonstandard colours.

Since its foundation in 1902 the Club and its members have been dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and well being of the breed, more than 100 years later those standards remain unchanged: to adopt the Kennel Club Breed Standard by which French Bulldogs shall be judged; to urge the adoption of that standard upon owners, breeders and exhibitors including the correct and acceptable coat colours for the breed and to breed for health, longevity, and correct conformation. The club is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of all French Bulldogs and would advise anybody with NonRecognised Colour dogs to still Health Test before considering breeding, all information is available to all on our Website, frenchbulldogclubofengland.org.uk

From the editor Another great issue of French Bulldog Magazine. Big congratulations to Altha Ferreira on importing Get lucky to South Africa. I was privileged to meet him in Johannesburg the day after he arrived. Apparently he didn’t understand my language…oh dear he only speaks Russian! I wish you all the success with him in the show ring Altha! In the meantime he won the dog CC and Reserve Best of Breed at his first show. Bred by Nikoleta Todorovic of Serbia. Thanks to everyone who is supporting this magazine by paying the publication fee. The cost is only $10 per ad but it pays for data which is very expensive in South Africa. If you haven’t paid for the publication of your ad please do so by paying the $10 via PayPal to my email address: allegiancecapital076@gmail.com

I have included some editorial on bad feet as I have seen a few dogs with weak pasterns. Enjoy reading your favorite French Bulldog magazine! Theo

French Bulldog feet Theo Koekemoer: I have seen a couple of dogs with bad feet recently, something I haven't noticed for a long time.

Paula Miradon: Some of the bloodlines have flat feet behind them. I have heard them in the past called “ dead baby hands. They will pop up from time to time.

Loraine Kleynhans : Too many oversized "crocodile" feet! Big feet, splayed toes and sloped pasterns, feet/toes pointing outward .... suspect this is what could be meant in this post ... seems like the beautiful tight cat foot is becoming a rarity.

Aleksandra Bielecka Idylla Canis : Paw problem is a very common one.. not only nails but also soft pasterns.

Doris Boyd: I wish I had pictures of the feet on one of my dogs..big....fat...awful inter digital toe cysts. I spent thousands of dollars going to specialists.....3 surgeries...and then I read an article at the feed store...DOES YOUR DOG HAVE BIG FEET or something like that...smiling...I had just left the vets office, telling myself. I'd never show my dog again...no more surgeries...no more prednisone .. I would love him...take care of his feet...then I read about sugar beet pulp...and other things that brought on yeast infections. I changed dog food..10 days and his feet were back to a normal size. His feet healed ...no more foot problems. I really believe diet is the reason for a lot of foot problems.

Klein Zink :Feet or Nails? Color, Size or Nails too long? What is too long for Nails? Robin L. Stansell: Trimming nails regularly will prevent many foot problems.
