UK - Genocide Memorial Day 2011

14th January 2011

The Muslim Seeker

The Islamic Human Rights Commission, IHRC, is proud to present its annual event entitled „Genocide Memorial Day‟ in remembrance of all man‟s inhumanity to man in the perpetration of genocides and genocidal acts. Two years on from the genocidal acts in Gaza, this event combines the past with the present so that this day is a call not

just to commemorate the past but also the present genocidal tendencies together with building a resolve to stop genocides from ever happening again. This event consists of a variety of short presentations on the world's many victims. This year we will be covering a number of atrocities including the heart rending plight of the peoples of Hiroshima and

Nagasaki, the suffering of the genocide in Cambodia and accounts from the victims of the Jewish Holocaust. Please come to support and remember the innocent victims of all genocide and genocidal acts. Let us emphasise never again is all inclusive. Date: Sunday, 16 January 2011 Time: 4pm – 8pm Place: Abrar House, 45 Crawford Place, London W1H 4LP Nearest Tube Stations: Edgware Road (Bakerloo Line) and Marble Arch (Central Line) Guest Speakers include: Gregory Stanton (Genocide Watch - USA) Bruce Kent (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) Ahron Cohen (With messages from Holocaust Survivors) Lauren Booth (Human Rights Activist and Journalist)

Quranic Love -----------------Doses of love capsuled within a rainbow Burnt candle sparkled out light Sprinkles of air captured within a rose Petals flew before lions cried Fire burnt Ice froze Biscuit dried Water became wet Couplets of gold Within verses Pages turn to sliver Ink dried Pen lifted The words of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Commentary The poetry of Imam Al Shafiâ€&#x;ee inspired me to write this short poem. How words can be so few, yet carry so much meaning behind them. With fire burning and ice freezing, I wanted to express how our love for the Quran can not be measured by normal love. For deep love goes beyond the surface and deeper beyond the eye. For the words of Allah are far beyond in wisdom than the words of the creation. Subhanallah. iPOET www.islamicpoet.com

£30,000 urgently needed to save Gaza’s only hospital for war-affected children Inadequate facilities and destruction of medical buildings has meant the hospital is no longer capable of meeting the need of young Gazans. The sad reality is that children are most affected by a lack of routine medication, shortage of medical supplies and dilapidated hospital conditions. Al Dora Paediatric Hospital – which last year treated 35,000 cases– is the only of its kind in Gaza to specialise in the treatment of children. In urgent need of maintenance, the hospital struggles to provide a service to more than 250,000 childrenin the surrounding area. Your contribution will provide sanitary and well-equipped medical facilities for thousands of Gaza‟s children insha‟Allah.

Are you up for the challenge? Bring the family, grab some friends and wrap up warm for this day out in the heart of London. Over 250 people from across the country have taken part in the Gaza Winter Challenges and have raised more than £50,000 for the children Gaza. This year we‟re asking you to continue to support Gaza‟s war-affected children by taking part in our sponsored winter funrun or walk. If you‟re feeling a little more adventurous then why not start earlier and join our team of runners? It‟s strictly a fun-run but 5 miles in the cold weather will still be a challenge. Be sure to tell us when registering.

JIHAD & WARFARE IN ISLAM - A DETAILED ACCOUNT Date: Saturday 29th January 2011 Time: 10am - 6pm Venue: Muslim World League, 4th Floor, 46 Goodge St, London, W1T 4LX (on the corner of Charlotte Street) DEADLINE: MONDAY 25TH JANUARY 2011 after which prices increase Allah says in the Qur'an: "And why should you not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated and oppressed? Men, women, and children, whose cry is: 'Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors, and raise for us from Thee one who will protect; and raise for us from Thee one who will help'." (Surah An-NisĂƒ¢', verse 75) This is arguably the most talked about topic whenever the subject of Islam is brought up amongst non-Muslims and Muslims. However, its true and comprehensive meaning has sadly been hijacked and abused either by the pacifists, who are more inclined towards bending over backwards and pleasing others, or the warmongering riff-raff of the Ummah, who are unable to channel their frustrations constructively and fail to attribute half-baked justifications for transgression to any legal scholarship. But what about the situation today? How should we understand Jihad in our current timespace context. This short course aims to cover the following areas, in light of classical and contemporary jurists: Types of Jihad, Reality of Jihad al-Nafs, Issue of Forcefully Converting People to Islam, Jihad as Armed Combat, Dar al-Harb or Dar al-Islam, Defensive and Offensive Jihad, Rules of Engagement and Civilian Inviolability, Role of the Head of State in Political Affairs and Jihad, Peace Treaties and the UN Declaration of Peace, Ethical Considerations in a Nuclear Age, Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) Overall Attitude to War, Shari'ah Definition of Terrorism, Reality of 9-11 & 7-7 according to Foundational Texts and Juristic Rulings, Multiple Muslim States, Islam's Foreign Policy, Social Contract and Muslims of the UK. A lot of material is to be covered during the course in significant depth, with the teacher commonly referring to related subjects so as to address the subject in a more well-rounded manner. Participants are therefore encouraged to attend with the right frame of mind and the necessary level of alertness. Whilst many may speak passionately about jihad, its inner and outer aspects, its rulings and relevance in today's context, very few are able to articulate this in a way that is true to both its practical and psycho-spiritual dimensions on an experiential level. Inshallah, this course will go some way towards providing a more honest and balanced representation of the subject, insha'Allah. * Notes and light refreshments will be provided * All welcome To book a place or for more information contact: Tel: 07956 983 609 E-mail: courses@islamiccircles.org

Group building cohesion gets top award Written by Faith Matters

A COMMUNITY organisation which was set up to ease religious tension has scooped the title of Enfield‟s Business Of The Year. Founded in 2007 by former Haringey councillor Fiyaz Mughal OBE, Faith Matters was praised for its conflict-resolution work in the UK and across the Middle East. Judges were impressed with the organisation‟s social programmes, research, events and publications. Mr Mughal said: “People have this perception that community organisations are not actually businesses even though we operate exactly like a business. “It was a fantastic honour to be named business of the year and even more so because the competition we were up against was so high.” The runner-up was named as Elite Feet Football Development, a football coaching firm run by Daniel Larner and based in Green Road, Southgate. Henna (Mehendi) is a Great Healer By Dr. M. Laiq Ahmed Khan The Henna plant is not only extensively grown throughout India, but cultivated as well. It is planted as hedges around houses, buildings and sometimes fields. It is two-meter long when fully grown and emission of a typical fragrance is also noted during nights. It is cultivated throughout India. For ages. The Mehndi of Faridabad is very much popular and liked by the users. The different parts of the plant viz. leaves, stems, flowers and fruits are being used for cosmetic as well as medicinal purposes. Umme Salma (R) narrates: "In the life of Prophet Muhammed (saws), no injury or thorn piercing was treated on which Henna was not applied." (Tirmizi, Sanad-e-Ahmed) "Whenever somebody came to Prophet Muhammad (saws) with complaints of headache, he directed him to undergo cupping and whosoever complained of pain in legs, was advised to apply Henna." (Bukhari, Abu Dawood) In another narration Henna was prescribed for headache also Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates: Nabi-e-Akram (saws) said that Jews and Christians did not use Khizab, you oppose that. The same verse is narrated by other narrators in Nisai and Tirmizi. Osman bin Abdullah Ibn Mohib narrates: "My family sent me to Ummul Momineen, Hazrat Salma (R), with a bowl of water (the narrator of this Hadith, Israil closed his three fingers and said the bowl was of silver). A few holy hairs of Prophet (saws) were there in the bowl. If some one fell ill with evil sight or with any other ailment would send the water in a bowl to

Umme-e-Salma. She would dip the plate in it. I looked into the water and found that the colour of the Prophet’s hair was red." (Bukhari) Jahzma (R) the wife of Bashir Bin Khasasia (R) narrates "I saw Prophet Muhammad (saws) coming out of the house. He was coming after taking bath, therefore, he was shaking his hairs. The colour of Henna was visible on his head." (Tirmizi) Wasila (R) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (saws) said "Use Henna, it makes your head lustrous, cleanses your hearts, increases the sexual vigour and will be witness in your graves" Abi Rafai narrates, "I was present before Prophet (saws). Passing his hand over his head he said that the head of all dyes was Henna which added a glow to the face and increased the sexual vigour." (Abu Naim) The scholars of Hadith paid a great attention towards its use keeping in view the repeated sayings of Prophet Muhammad (saws). Sahaba and Tabayeen like Abu Bakr, Umar, Abu Ubaida, Mohammed Ibnal Hanifa, Mohammed Ibn Al Sirin used to apply Henna on their hairs. Mohaddis Abdul Latif Baghdadi says that its red colour is very attractive and its colour and smell is a nerve stimulant. The fact is well understood in today’s scenario, from the impact of colour and odour on personality and physiology. Mohd. Ahmed Zahbi says that there are three essential factors for healing i. Expulsion of fluids from the wounds ii. Cessation of production of any more fluids Formation of healthy flesh (granulation tissue) to fill the gap. Henna contains all these three factors and possesses very good healing properties. If Mehndi leaves are soaked in water throughout the night and this decanted water, if taken in morning for 40 days, is effective in leprosy and heals the wounds. Ibu al Qayyim in the light of his experiences describes it a good healing agent for burns. Its gargles are beneficial in stomatitis and all ulcers of tongue, cheeks and lips. Its local application has soothing effects on acute inflammations and hot abscesses. Henna levels’ extract in oil mixed with natural wax and oil of rose, if applied locally in conditions of backache, is highly effective. It is a clinically tested fact that if Mehndi leaves paste is applied on the soles of the patients of small pox and chicken pox, the eyes remain unaffected with the disease and besides become dry very soon. Dry leaves of Henna if kept in clothes, serve the purpose of insect repellent. If the paste of Henna is applied on nails, the lustre of the nails increases and if applied on feet and soles, is effective in burning feet syndrome. If the nails become disfigured after getting fungal infection, it is advisable to use Henna with vinegar to restore it to normalcy. The paste of Henna is very effective in Burns and scalds. It heals the boils of scalp if applied with Roghan-e-Zaitoon. The physicians of Unani Medicine describe it as a good blood purifier. Hakim Ajmal Khan once used the paste of Henna on the palms of a female patient who was suffering from Menorrhagia and she got cured. Inhaling the scent of its flowers cures headache from heat. The oil prepared from olive oil and leaves of Henna is very much effective in muscular rigidity. If Henna leaves are soaked in a sufficient quantity of water and kept throughout the night and the decanted water is taken in morning it is effective in Jaundice and Splenomegaly. (The writer is director, Shah Faisal Institute of Hadith and Medical Sciences, Kasganj)

The Productive Muslim Habitator 7 Daily Spiritual Productive Habits to Develop by ProductiveMuslim You should aim to develop the following 7 Spiritually Productive activities into habits so that you can hopefully continue benefitting from them throughout your life. I consider these activities as the spiritual „bread and butter‟ of any ProductiveMuslim. To develop them as habits is the essence of embarking on your journey towards the love of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta‟ala) and constantly increasing in your eman, inshaAllah: 1) Pray the Sunnah Prayers before and/or after Prayer: I know it‟s easier to just pray the obligatory prayers and rush out of the mosque! However, when we realise the rewards we‟re missing from not praying these Sunnah prayers we won‟t leave them. Over the years I have learnt there‟s only ONE way of getting yourself to pray these Sunnah prayers constantly: Get into the habit of praying them! They‟ll soon become part and parcel of your Salah and your Salah will feel incomplete without performing these acts. 2) Remembrance of Allah after Salah: Again, it‟s easy to rush out after Salah due to our busy lives, though if we are honest, how long does it take to recite the supplications after Salah? (The Answer: 5-7 minutes!). If you‟re not sure what I‟m referring to, you may find the supplications at MakeDua.com. Nowadays you‟ll find pocket notebooks/or phone applications with these supplications. Get into the habit of reciting them daily after each Salah to enrich your Salah experience. 3) Morning/Evening Remembrance of Allah: Step 2 is also included in this habit. There exists a beautiful set of duas/remembrances from the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which he used to say before sunrise and after sunset. They are true stress relievers and energy boosters which never fail to make my days and evenings feel blessed. [You can find the duas at MakeDua.com] 4) Night Prayer: Hamdulillah, during Ramadan we have the wonderful Taraweeh prayers to attend. However, outside of Ramadan there are many opportunities to still obtain the reward of the night prayer. If you‟re new to night prayer or you don‟t pray it constantly during the year, make sure you try to attend prayers each and every night in congregation at the mosque (particularly brothers), and give yourself a „no-excuse‟ policy. Develop a habit of praying Tahajjud and continuing to pray them for an entire 30 days; this will set you on better footing to continue with the Night Prayer for the rest of the year inshaAllah. 5) Duha Prayer: Here‟s a Productive Muslim‟s top secret to a productive day: 2 rak‟ahs known as the Duha prayer which you may pray at anytime after sunrise till before the sun reaches it‟s zenith (around 30 minutes before Dhuhr). The reward of this prayer is similar to giving charity on behalf of every bone in your body, and the energy and buzz you feel during the day is amazing. 6) Supplications before you Sleep: You‟ve just had a long day and you‟re super tired. You climb into bed and you want to hit the sack… but wait! Before you do, can you give yourself just 10 more minutes to recite the supplications before sleeping? That‟s all. Try them and find yourself experiencing the most beautiful sleep ever and waking up for Fajr easily, inshaAllah. For more information on waking up for fajr, constantly, everyday, without fail Read How to Wake up for Fajr. 7) Reciting one hour of Quran each day: Notice: I said here recite one hour of Quran each day and not one juz‟ or one Surah. The amount of Quran you read is not as important as the quality of your understanding. If you spend one hour reciting one verse but understand it fully, that‟s more important and beneficial then reciting lots of Quran at break-neck speed yet not understanding a word.

HMC was born essentially out of one concern and one concern only; to be able to provide assurance that we are eating genuine Halal, not just “because it says Halal… it must be Halal!" HMC is the product of a particular, prolonged situation – a situation of deceit and treachery. Muslims are being betrayed by individuals & corporations whose only concern is making fast, easy money. Using 'blessed blades', pre recorded Bismillah, captive bolts, electrified water and even pork proteins; the hard-earned Halal cash of many is being used to buy Haram. HMC has therefore, shouldered the enormous responsibility of discharging an obligatory duty on behalf of you, the community at large. Help HMC to Help You! Champions League Tournament At The London Soccer dome: 31 teams turned up on what was a very cold, snowy night. Lucky for the teams and the organisers that the event was indoors nonetheless it was still FREEZING. LONDON ALEAF (pictured above) won the Champions league tournament beating Jhelum FC (3 times Muslim 5aside league winners) in a nail biting penalty shoot out Controversy unfortunately scarred the Uefa cup tournament with the eventual winners being ASIANO'S who beat Bengal Tigers in another penalty shoot out.
