Pakistan Flood Appeal Alhumdulillah, me and Khurram completed the half marathon (20k) last Sunday. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has already donated to this cause. You have helped us raise over ÂŁ12,000, which is truly a fabulous achievement, but we are still ÂŁ3000 away from our target. I have just got back from Pakistan and whilst I was out there I noticed homes which were swept away, extinct livestock, no food, no clean water, water borne infections, no medical facilities whatsoever and the list just goes on. With over 20 million people affected, and out of those 6 million had still not received any aid whatsoever. With the government not doing anything it is left to us to try and pick up the pieces, so please dig deep. It's easy to donate online with a credit or debit card - just go to: http://www.justgiving.com/flood Just Giving sends your donation straight to the charity and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more. Once again thanks to those who have already donated Jazak Allah Fasil

Labbayk was formed in May 2004, when there was a pressing need for a nasheed group within a London based Secondary School’s Muslim Society. Thus, Masum, Imran and others showed their interest in the idea and started officially singing in the school’s Islamic events. News spread about the group and therefore a lot of requests were soaring in for the group to perform in events such as weddings, charity dinners, conferences across UK and even a night dinner on a boat on the River Thames! The group now consists of Masum born in 1987, Ehsaan born in 1987 and Imran born in 1991, with Ehsaan joining the group in 2006. The group needed a record label by which they can be represented and have an album produced, so they approached MuslimDot Network which runs a number of companies and websites, notably Ummah Forum which is the biggest Islamic Discussion Forum and also mpadc.com, an Islamic web hosting company. The record showed their full support and enthusiasm of the proposed album, thus the group started going into a recording studio based in Acton and recording all the tracks. They worked hard in preparing their very first album “Rhymes of Praise” which drew world-wide acclaim, in particular the Subhanallah track which was the group’s very first nasheed written and composed in 2004. The group also has been honoured to have performed in international events including: Mahdin - Kerala, South India Youth Tarbiyah Conference - Toronto, Canada Souk - Durban, South Africa Whilst some members of the group are still in education and do other things, they still find time to go to events, rehearse and work on new nasheeds which are to come in the very near future, insha’Allah! If you would like to book Labbayk for your event, please contact: Sajid Pandore (Manager) Email: general@muslimdot.com Mobile: 07903 669 420 (International: +447903 669 420)

Attitude determines success in Life

Attitude Determines Attitude One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people can be. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return trip, the father asked the son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked? "Oh yeah," said the son. "So what did you learn from the trip?" The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon." "We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them." With this, the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks dad for showing me how poor we are." Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have. What is one person's worthless object is another's prize possession. It is all based on perspective. Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for all the bounty we have, instead of worrying about wanting more. Take joy in all you have, especially your friends.

HHUGS (Helping Households Under Stress) Watlington Hills A day to remember "Whoever relieves a believer of distress in this world, Allah will relieve him of some of the distress of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes things easy for those who are in difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and in the next. Whoever conceals (the faults of) a Muslim in this world, Allah will conceal him (his faults) in this world and in the Hereafter. Allah will help the slave so long as the slave helps his brother." [Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh, 1/71, hadith no. 204.] Hhugs would firstly like to say jazakamullah khairun to all those who donated generously, volunteered and participated in the trip. MashAllah by the Blessings and Mercy of Allah, the day was a memorable success for all those who attended. Without your help and support, the trip would not have been possible. Feedback from the families and their loved ones in prison, was testimony that the trip made a difference to them. For the families, they were able to enjoy the beautiful countryside in Oxfordshire, whilst their children played and experienced an outdoor trek on the hills. For their loved ones inside, the feeling of knowing that their families were being looked after and effort had been made for them, cannot be described in words. All the families travelled by coach to Watlington Hills in Oxfordshire, whilst enjoying the scenic route on the way. Gazebos were set up for the sisters, allowing them to relax and socialise with others present. The younger children were occupied with making and flying their own kites. In addition, other games and activities were provided for them, with some even making a tree house and others indulging in face painting! For the older children, a trek with Bush Tucker Ali, from Islam channel, had been organised. As they trekked through the bushes, they learnt about different survival methods and much more along the way. The views from the hills were breathtaking! For the sisters, a talk on the importance of health and hijama was delivered by an expert in this field, which everyone was able to benefit from. Lunch was provided for all the families, which was followed by congregational prayer. A henna artist had been invited to put henna on the hands of the young girls and sisters, much to their joy! On this blessed hot day, all that was missing was ice cream. However, thanks to everyone’s kind donations, an ice cream van had been arranged to come along on the day. The children excitedly chose their ice creams and thoroughly enjoyed them as you can imagine! The first helping went down so well that they were ready for seconds in no time at all! The sisters were also able to experience a relaxing walk around the hills, relieving them of some of their day-to-day stresses and worries. Overall it was a day enjoyed by all who attended, with everyone leaving with a smile on their face, alhamdulilah. The feedback we received from the families and their loved ones inside was immense. They made du’a for all those that participated in making their day possible. In future, Hhugs hopes to be able to organise similar trips like this for more families of detainees. However, this will only be possible by your continued generosity, help and support. Once again, jazakamullah khairun to everyone who donated (however big or small) and also to those who volunteered and participated. We have uploaded a video and some pictures of the trip below, so you can briefly see how successful it was by the Grace of Allah.

HHUGS (Helping Households Under Stress) Since 9/11, over 1000 Muslims have been arrested on terrorism charges. Most have been released, a few have been charged and are currently awaiting trial, while only a handful have actually been convicted of any terrorism offenses. Many foreign nationals have been placed under 'control orders' while others have been deported back to their home countries along with their wives and children. For every arrest and detention, a home has been raided and ravaged and a family has suffered the loss of a loved one, a bread winner, a dear husband. a much loved son. These are homes where life will never be the same. For many of these families, daily tasks have become difficult, they are struggling to make ends meet and transport to visit their loved ones is infrequent. On top of this, their friends have disowned them, their Mosques have abandoned them, and their communities have shunned them. They are lonely, vulnerable, and desperately in need of help. Hhugs, Helping Households Under Great Stress, is a registered charity that was setup in September 2004 in response to the increasing number of 'anti-terror' arrests across the country. Hhugs provides practical support and advice to households devastated by the arrest of a family member under UK anti-terror legislation. FOSIS welcomes the findings of the independent inquiry investigating Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's time at UCL Nabil Ahmed, President of FOSIS, said today ―Allegations of extremism in higher education must be understood responsibly – with independence, evidence and consultation with relevant actors in the sector and community, and the Caldicott Enquiry does that. It is pleasing to note that the findings of the independent inquiry reiterates the mainstream of opinion, including our own, that there is no evidence to suggest Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was radicalised at UCL or that conditions at UCL during that time, or subsequently, are conducive to the radicalisation of students. To suggest otherwise is not only deeply irresponsible and unfounded, but creates suspicion on campus for innocent Muslim students and their Islamic Societies; and where opportunist commentators have attempted to demonise them, this evidence-based report strongly dismisses their claims. He further added, ―Radicalisation anywhere must be challenged strongly – but through engagement, evidence and the support of local communities, not with sensationalism and brashness. The same approach must be adopted when addressing the issue of freedom of expression on campus, highlighted in the report as a matter of further consideration and a discussion that we welcome." He ended, "Muslim students and Islamic societies continue to enrich campus life, engage with other student societies and positively contribute to the discourses and debates taking place at university. They have done so despite enduring much adversity over recent years, and they have faced these challenges with courage and perseverance; none more so than at UCL where the Islamic Society and Muslim students should be highlighted for their fantastic work on campus and the positive role they continue to play."

Trials Towards Belief Tafsir of Surah an-Naml

About

The British Academy of Qur'anic Studies (BAQS) presents its Monthly Quran Seminars A one-day intensive course Surah an-Naml reminds the believers of the good tidings of faith in Allah’s book and makes the unbelievers aware of the Hereafter through the realities of the universe. This Surah consists of two main discourses: the first is directed to those who accept the Qur’an as it presents the realities of the universe and the hereafter. Such people can benefit from the guidance of the Quran and become worthy of the promises made in it. The second discourse is directed to those who disbelieve in the Hereafter. On the outset attention is drawn to the universe in order to question them about the glaring realities. Four stories from the past have been retold in order to understand their trails and tribulations in their struggle towards belief, which are:  The Story of Musa (as) and Pharaoh  The People of Thamud  The People of Lot (as) The Story of Sulayman (as) and Queen of Sheba (it is the only time this story is related in the Qur’an) The greatest hindrance for mankind in following His Book, is the denial of the Hereafter. This Surah seeks to remind the believers to the follow up their belief with obedience and submission in their practical lives. “Indeed in their stories, there is a lesson for men of understanding.” [12: 111]

FORTY HADITH TO GROW WITH Shaykh Abdallah Adhami 29th Oct -1st Nov 2010 : QMW London This is the much awaited second session of the highly acclaimed course Forty Hadith to Grow With. We invite you to an exclusive not to be missed opportunity to be enlightened, energised and motivated by the scholarly mastery and eloquence of Shaykh Abdallah Adhami. A special collection of hadith-based guidance that people need to orient themselves in life, to give them a sense of mission and creative purpose, along with a sense of civic duty and global citizenship. An enriching course relevant for both students and educators, professionals and people in the third sector, parents and their children, Muslims and their neighbours. The wonder of hadith-based guidance is precisely that it elucidates, or is the most eloquent practical commentary, upon—as well the very methodological seed for—the ethos of the law (shariah). Teacher: Shaykh Abdallah Adhami Shaykh Abdallah Adhami was born in Georgetown, Washington, DC, of the noble lineage of the family of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He began his studies of shari’ah at the age of eight, and heard his first scholarly narrative in 1975. He earned scholarly licenses from many eminent scholars from Damascus, Egypt, and Morocco. As a certified narrator of hadith, he is honored with the highest doctoral credential in the interdisciplinary legal canon. Shaykh Abdallah also holds a degree in architecture from Pratt in New York City, and has seven years of international corporate experience in the area of organizational development and executive training. Shaykh Abdallah Adhami has been serving the needs of the Muslim community in North America for over twenty years, and is a creative and legal consultant to corporate and creative professionals in the public and private sector around the world. His post-doctoral works center on exploring the legal, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of the linguistic implications of shari’ah texts. His works also strive to relate the eternal relevance of the essence of shari’ah laws as a vehicle to enhance modern lived experience. He is the founder and chairman of SAKEENAH. The first course experienced a significant level of demand. We highly recommend early booking to avoid disappointment. Limited places. Should take note that we did very little training for this event and many of us havent ridden a bicycle for years so we as a group should be proud of completing this task so congratulations to everyone! The day as a whole was amazing and the weather was goodl but I think we were all suprised how difficult it was at the hardest of times and we all suffered especially on the uphills! Many of us play football, go to the gym and have trekked up to Base Camp of Mount Everest yet we can all say that this was the most challenging and intense experinece we have been through. We did have to combat a broken chain and a replacement bike, a few cramps and also getting lost(note we did an extra 10 miles due to this) but despite this we stuck to our task knowing that so many of you have donated and supported us throughout this experience. A large Thanks must go out to our car support from Irshad Patel and Arif Delawala who guided us and encouraged us for half of the journey without them in all honesty we might not have completed our journey! We managed to take some pictures of the trip so please take a look! We are still collecting money for the next few weeks so please please keep donating! Our raised target has once again been reached so again Thanks so much for all the donatiions! Its because of this that we have decided to set a new target of ÂŁ4500 so please help us achieve this target.

Oh the moon has come The day is done The night has covered up the sun. I have stood so often before you to pray But I wonder Allah, tell me, what did I do today? Did I remember the words of AlFatiha? Did I take time to thank you for all that I have? Did I call on you to guide my way? Tell me, what did I do today? I has whispered to you As I made ruku Subhana Rabiy'yal adheem. But was my faith Bright or grey? Oh Allah, tell me, what did I do today? Did I smile at my brother? Was I kind to my mother? Did I teach another something that I know Or did my love of this world lead me astray? Tell me, what did I do today? Sami Allah hu liman hamida

Rabanna lakal hamd. Sami Allah hu liman hamida Rabanna lakal hamd. La illaha il Allah. La illaha il Allah. Though I've bowed to you with my face in the dust, subhana raby'yal a'la Did I turn to you And did I obey? Oh Allah, tell me, what did I do today? Did I use my time? Did I use my mind? If I search my heart what will I find? The light of your guidance is a glimmering ray, Tell me, what did I do toady? Oh Allah, tell me, what did I do today?

HMC was born essentially out of one concern and one concern only; to be able to provide assurance that we are eating genuine Halal, not just “because it says Halal… it must be Halal!" HMC is the product of a particular, prolonged situation – a situation of deceit and treachery. Muslims are being betrayed by individuals & corporations whose only concern is making fast, easy money. Using 'blessed blades', pre recorded Bismillah, captive bolts, electrified water and even pork proteins; the hard-earned Halal cash of many is being used to buy Haram. HMC has therefore, shouldered the enormous responsibility of discharging an obligatory duty on behalf of you, the community at large. Help HMC to Help You! APSA and 5 Pillars Golf Society Flood Fund Raiser by Zulfi (Mon 18th Oct 2010 22:13) APSA Chairman and friends from the 5 Pillars Golf Society worked together to bring about the first of many a charity tournament in the local area. A stableford handicap competition was played in the true spirit of the game with lots of fun and a nice meal to finish the night off courtesy of the excellent chefs at Woolston Manor Golf Club. The clubs head Pro Bradley Preston showed the kindness and good will of Woolston Manor GC and waived all green fees to increase the revenue raised for charity. We are indebted to the clubs kindness and cannot thank them enough. The money will be presented to the Ummah Welfare Trust to pass on to the needy in Pakistan. A very successful competition where 20+ players from the local area took part and helped to raise £440. Generosity from and thanks to the following : Arif Master - Donating the First Prize of Crystal Goblets PC Foods Ltd - Sponsored the Par 3 Trophies. Longest Drive - sponsored by a private donator. As it happened, Mohammed Seedat was on course to win, but fell short on the last few holes. Jilu Manaan also came in with 1 over after 9 holes but the wheels came off at the turn, however he still managed a 2nd place finish. Zahid Akbar was unstoppable as he weighed in with 3 crucial birdies and two very long putts which he holed to give him the championship. A mixture of players picked up these accolades which made it a winning day for all. Mark Lancaster, Jilu Manan, Shabbir Khan, Zahid Akbar, Mohammed Seedat, Malik Mohammed. Par 3 nearest to the pin winners Malik Mohammed – hole 7 Jilu Manan – hole 10 Jamal Rahman - Hole 14 Mark Lancaster – Hole 17 Longest drive - Shabbir Khan 3rd Place – Mohammed Seedat 2nd Place – Jilu Manan Winner – Zahid Akbar – Stormed through the course hitting a fantastic 5 over to win the Competition Chairman Zulfi Ali It was a tough event to organise, having only experience of football Competitions but I'm very pleased with the outcome and enjoyed working with the people who supported it. (Bradley Preston, Peter, Shaheen Tahir, Imran Ali, Ashraf Loonat and Arif Master, Shabbir Khan (PC Foods). It’s the start of good things to come and the excitement and buzz from all the participants was refreshing to see. I can't thank Woolston Manor enough for all their help and of course the fantastic service of Peter and Bradley at the club. We’re also holding an over 35’s 6 a side football competition to be held on the 12th of November and I hope it will be equally successful."

Sports Page A thrilling cup tie at the Terence Macmillan stadium, which saw six goals, three sending offs, extra time and a penalty shoot-out as the home side went through to the next round of the Essex Cup. The drama started as early as the 4th minute when APSA’s Barry Simmons drilled a pile driver from fully 25 yards out which beat Basildon’s veteran keeper, Dean Neil all ends up to put the home side one up. APSA then enjoyed the majority of the possession without putting Neil to the test again, so it was a surprise when in the 26th minute the visitors levelled. A lack of concentration, from a free kick, by the home defence saw Adaboloya latch on to the ball and score for Basildon. Up to that point APSA had looked solid at the back despite the absence of Tim Cole and the injured John Hind, which saw regular centre forward Dave Lee partnering Daniel Callaway in the centre of the defence. The visitors had been left to just pumping long balls into the box, which Brown in the APSA goal dealt with ease. The equaliser bought the visitors more into the game but they too, like the home side, failed to create any clear cut chances. The second half began the same way as

Page 48 LONDON APSA FC...3 BASILDON UNITED FC...3 a.e.t London APSA FC win 3-1 on penalties the first, but this time APSA took just two minutes to re-capture the lead, when a high looping corner from Captain John Langton caught Neil out of position and had the keeper punching air as the ball looped over his head and behind the goal line. APSA should have killed the game there and then, but despite again dominating most of the ball possession, they just could not break the visitors down. Young Reece Morgan broke through in the 52nd minute but instead of shooting he passed to new boy Matthew Selaco, which allowed the defenders to close in and the chance went nowhere. Manager John Higley strengthend his attack further by introducing Anthony Chuck, in place of the tiring Simone – also making his home debut on the night. But the goal spurred the away team, as suddenly they found an extra gear and came hard at APSA. Brown made a great save to push a certain goal bound effort over the bar. However in the sixty seventh minute, APSA for the

second time in the match conceded a sloppy goal, when they gave away a free kick at the edge of their box. The resulting free kick was saved well by Brown but he could not hang on to the ball. Simmons and Chuck throw themselves into the 6 yard box to clear the ball, but the ball fell to Adibayolyo who scored his and his teams second of the match. The game got a bit scrappy at this stage with silly fouls and backchatting to the referee by both sides, which saw APSA’s Captain John Langton and Daniel Callaway collect un-necessary yellow cards. With so many players on yellow cards, the inevitable was sure to happen and in the 81st minute the visitors’ captain Jamie Gray was sent off after he brought down Selaco. Try as they might APSA just could not take advantage of the extra man and once again Basildon come marauding forward. Jamie Langton had to make a last gasp tackle as Adikenbolo burst through

and then the visitors went close from a corner. Just before the 90th minute, APSA had two great chances, first Morgan and Selaco combined for Scott to hit a tame shot which Neil saved easily and then Chuck and Scott set up Seleco, whose clever flick with the last kick of the match saw the ball go inches wide. Bryant came on for Simmons in the first period of extra time, as APSA brought on some fresh legs, but soon after, the referee deemed what seems a legal sliding tackle by Callaway a foul and sent the APSA man off. Now with both teams down to ten men, the game seems to be heading for penalties. But there were more surprises to come. With just two minutes of extra time left, APSA for the third time in the match, gifted the opposition a goal, when a long clearance from the visitors, found Brown completely miss-judge the bounce of the ball and get caught in no-mans land and Bajada lobed the ball in to the empty net. Basildon’s joy was to last less then sixty second as APSA went right down to the other end from the kick of, and captain John Langton unleashed a magnificent volley from just inside the penalty box to level the match. Much to the horror of manager John Higley, his captain took his shirt off to celebrate and promptly got shown his second yellow card of the match. Nine men APSA held on for the last few seconds of the match to take the game into penalties. Steve Brown made amends for his earlier mistake, with three fantastic penalty saves, and with John Langton, Anthony Scott and Anthony Chuck converting their spot kicks APSA were through to the next round of the Essex Senior Cup
