Arrowtown Autumn Festival

The autumn colours have arrived and it’s time to celebrate New Zealand’s most beautiful town! Now in its 38th year, the festival is set to impress with 40+ great food, wine, music, art and community events held over Anzac weekend 25–28 April. All the favourites are back - Pie, Pint & Pinot, Mora Autumn Lunch, ASB Market Day, Bayley’s Parade and Art Exhibition. With some new events in the mix – Land of the Long Long Drive Kids Show, Mora Dinner with The Breeze, The Art of Wine and a Pumpkin Growing Competition. There is also a window dressing competition for businesses and it’s not too late to get involved.

Our beautiful town will be buzzing on market and parade day, showcasing our outstanding local talent over three stages (10am-4pm).

Stay on for Saturday Night Live and enjoy live music throughout Arrowtown.

Parking is limited so walk, catch the bus or bike, there will be some parking at Johnsons Common. The festival is delighted to be single use cup free so BYO cups and drink bottles.

A big thank you to the Arrowtown community and businesses for their ongoing support and in particular our Skyline Volunteer Crew, without volunteers the festival would not be possible.

The majority of events are free to attend and there are still tickets available for the Comedy Night and Mora Dinner with The Breeze, so grab a programme from the Museum or visit our website: www.arrowtownautumnfestival. co.nz.

planting success

The Arrowtown Choppers would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to the Arrowtown Community for getting out on Sunday and planting 3000 trees. With over 150 volunteers turning up we are blown away by the support and it was done in 3 hours. The band of Beech, Totora and Ribbonwood now stretches between three remnant stands of Beech on the Sawpit Gully track. We just want to say we really appreciate your ongoing support! This is our 7th Arrowtown Beech Party with a total of 17,000 trees going in. We have had great attendance at the Beech Party's with a combined total of over 4000 volunteer hours just from the planting alone. The long-term goal of the Arrowtown Choppers is to see natural forest regeneration behind Arrowtown. This includes the introduction of key missing native forest species that were once present. This in turn will help increase the habitat for a range of native birds, lizards, and insects, enriching our biodiversity. The hills behind Arrowtown have some of the highest densities of falcon in the country due to our mosaic of shrubland, tussock grassland, and beech forest. Small bird species like miromiro/ tomtits, piwakawaka/fantails, and korimako/bellbirds help provide a food source for karearea/falcon parents and chicks. In combination with Predator Free Arrowtown, we hope to eventually establish enough forest so that other birds like kea, kaka, and robin can eventually be reintroduced to the area.

The Arrowtown Choppers also work closely with the Arrowtown Scout Group and Arrowtown Primary School to plant trees on council land at Bush Creek. The Arrowtown Choppers will continue to work closely with these groups to expand on these plantings and promote the principles of Kaitiakitanga. Future projects include the Arrowtown Community Nursery and Arrowtown Conservation Corridor. For further information please contact us on: info@ arrowtownchoppers.co.nz
