DearFriendsandSupporters,

On behalf of Teach For America Dallas Fort Worth, we thank you for your support during another year of adaptive yet rewarding times as our educators continue responding to the challenges introduced by the pandemic Despite these obstacles, TFA DFW recruited 200 teachers to six school districts over the last two years. Our 1,400 alumni are thriving as well, with 40 school principals, 25 school systems leaders, and 15 policy advocates who are leading at all levels. In total, TFA DFW’s 1,600+ corps members and alumni currently serve over 90,000 students across the metroplex, and in the 2021 22 school year, our corps members made 1.3 years of growth, exceeding expectations for the school year. With the support of such a powerful network committed to improving student outcomes, we believe our corps members are poised to help our cities’ children meet, and surpass, pre pandemic achievement levels.

Our region’s strength positions Teach For America Dallas Fort Worth to achieve a bold goal:

Our region’s strength positions Teach For America Dallas Fort Worth to make a bol By 2030, twice as many children in the communities where we work will reach key college and career readiness milestones indicating they are on a path to economic mobility and a future filled with possibility.

To achieve this goal, TFA DFW will focus our development of educators in four strategically selected geographic impact zones representative of our cities’ greatest need, based on poverty concentration and academic performance We are prioritizing concentration of our talent in pockets of our community in a much more rigorous way than we have previously. This allows our corps members to benefit not only from a stronger community of TFA peers and alumni, but it will also help TFA DFW collaborate with community partners to accelerate learning in tandem with others supporting those schools.

We embark on this concentrated strategy to more efficiently and effectively allocate our precious resources of corps members and alumni for the greatest impact on students in classrooms. We cannot overstate how much we value your partnership and support as we strive to maximize the transformative power of our corps members and alumni in schools and on our students

Josue Tamarez Torres DFW '11

Josue has received the honor of being appointed Chair of the Teacher Vacancy Task Force by Governor Abbott The Task Force will make recommendations for districts, the Texas Education Agency, teacher preparation programs, and the Texas Legislature that are intended to help improve teacher recruitment and retention amid our current teacher vacancy crisis His leadership gives Josue an important voice for teachers and students across Texas

Kristen Watkins DFW '09

Following her nationally recognized success as a classroom teacher, Kristen has continued to serve Dallas ISD in the personalized learning department Today, as Executive Director of Personalized Learning & Innovation Sustainability, Kristen leads all district efforts to move towards scale, sustainability, and implementation of personalized learning districtwide. This is an essential component of the district's plan to overcome learning loss caused by the pandemic.

Jesse Acosta DFW '18

Jesse has been teaching at his alma mater, Justin F. Kimball High School, since he graduated from college, but he wanted to do more to serve his community. So in 2020, he launched Pasos for Oak Cliff, a nonprofit that has already distributed over 1,800 pairs of shoes to students in need! He was also named Campus Teacher of the Year for the 2021 22 school year for his visionary leadership and exceptional service to his school

Alexia Rogers DFW '22

Alexia Rogers teaches 5th grade science at IDEA Achieve Academy in Haltom City. She was named Teacher of the Month in her first year of teaching and has gone above and beyond advocating for her students’ needs When her homeroom students asked for a fun school wide event, she set up a pep rally to support their emotional needs without taking away from time spent on their academic progress

Cam Hedden DFW '21

Cam Hedden teaches 10th grade chemistry at O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth. When he noticed the absence of a Gay Straight Alliance at his school, he stepped up to start one himself to foster inclusion and belonging. He was surprised by how many students joined, and then in its second year the club’s numbers doubled! When thanked for his hard work, Cam replied “I am grateful that TFA led me to where I am right now I love knowing the work that I’m doing matters the kids are worth it!”
