Not to be missed Explore the country Our borough is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The Pennines region is on our doorstep waiting to be explored. There are plenty of marked walks for you to do or join a guided walk to discover the nature around you.

Free swimming Swimming is free for 16s and under in Link4Life swimming pools across the borough. Please note this only applies to general swimming and not swimming lessons.

All aboard the youth bus! Keep an eye out for the mobile youth bus in your area. Come and join us for games and activities or come and chat to us for advice.

Get together To make the best of your summer, why not join your local youth club? Join with your mates or make new ones and get to go on heaps of exciting trips to the beach, theme parks, water parks, museums and tons of other cool places.

School’s out But lots of schools remain open over the holidays offering a wide range of different activities and events. Log onto your school’s website for more details.

Major events Feel Good Festival Friday 13 and Saturday 14 August More live music, good food and great times! Every summer, Rochdale’s indoor venues and town centre are filled with some of the best musicians, star chefs and artists. Put the dates in your diary and get yourself down to the town centre -all the entertainment is free. On the Saturday there’ll also be a big main stage by the beautiful Rochdale Town Hall, with a great line up of live performances by The Lightning Seeds, The Herbaliser, Kirsty Almedia and The Travelling Band, plus special guests. Star chefs Gino D’Acampo, Aazam Ahmad and Andrew Nutter will be demonstrating their culinary skills and sharing their recipes in the celebrity food kitchen. Tour of Britain The world’s top professional cyclists will saddle up in Rochdale Town Centre to start the first leg of a gruelling 8 day race to London. You’re invited to give Britain’s Team Sky the biggest cheer at the start line as they take on the world’s best in the UK’s most important international cycling competition.

U-Nite 5 August, Hopwood Hall College, Middleton Campus 11.30am - 6.00pm Young people and professionals unite to discuss and decide ways the borough can improve community relationships and feelings of safety. The event is calling on young people from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds from across the borough. You’ll work with the police, Rochdale Borough Council’s community safety team and others to explore issues such as antisocial behaviour, guns and gangs, drugs, alcohol, racism and discuss how it affects you and your communities. National Playday 4 August The annual celebration of children’s right to play. On Playday thousands of children, young people and communities will get out to play at hundreds of locally organised events across the UK. You can be a part of it too! Disability Sports Pr Sunsport Sunsport is a specialist holiday activity programme for young disabled people. There’s a wide range of activities on offer including trampolining, canoeing, circus skills, rock climbing, drama, trail walks, cycling and many more. Sunsport also provides a full range of personal care enabling young people to be fully supported for the day.

Activities start on 2 August until 27 August, Monday-Friday, 10am-3.30pm. At various locations across the borough. For 14-19 years £5 per day

A wide range of activities is on offer including sports, training opportunities, chance to make new friends, Duke of Edinburgh and lots more. The Saturday Klubs are a safe and relaxing environment staffed by qualified and experienced people who can offer a full range of personal care. Every Saturday, 10.30am-2.30pm.

Aquatics From Monday 2 August-Friday 3 September, a daily free circular bus service will run from the Heywood Sports Complex to Castleton Pool, calling also at Rochdale Central Leisure centre and Middleton Arena. Decide what time you want to leave Heywood and which pool you’ll be visiting, then make a note of what bus you want to catch to get back to Heywood - make sure you know where the bus will stop on the way back.

Saturday 11 September 2010 Tour of Britain Cycle Race Organised by RMBC/Tour of Britain The 8-day Tour of Britain Cycle race kicks off from Rochdale this year. 96 international cycle riders from 16 professional teams will be keyed-up at the start of the 1,200Km of tough, competitive cycling. The first stage to Blackpool covers 130km and gives Britain’s cycling fans their first chance to see Team Sky take on the world’s best on British roads. The Rochdale section will include the first sprint of the race. Tour of Britain is the biggest free-to-watch sporting event in the UK and there’ll be lots of activities happening around the event in Rochdale on the Friday evening and on the Saturday. Singers & musicians are invited to join an informal start to the weekend with a folk sing-a-round at the Conservative Club, hosted by Steve Lister from Littleborough Lions. Saturday sees the Rushcart procession start at the King William IV pub at the top of Shore at 10am, arriving at Hare Hill Park at 1pm. The festival in the park will have fun activities for all the family, including a fun fair. The Rushcart arrives at its’ final destination at the Wine Press, Hollingworth Lake at 3.30pm. The Parenting Support Team are going to be holding a series of Parent Drop-In sessions as part of the Safe4Summer campaign.

Thursday 15th July - 1pm – 4pm Middleton Gardens

We will be using the Youth Bus to host the sessions at different locations across the Borough. Parents are invited to drop in for an informal chat, advice and support, and be able to find out about parenting courses that we run throughout the year. They will be able to ‘have a go’ at some of the activities that we use on our courses, including inter-active computer programmes. The Drop-in sessions will be staffed by members of the Parenting Support Team, who will be able to offer advice around all aspects of parenting, and will also offer support if parents are concerned that their children and young people may be getting involved in risk taking behaviours, such as anti-social behaviour, drugs and alcohol.
