SEVEN THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT

ST. ANDREW’S

1

We all live here.

Imagine a high school where you live with your friends and teachers. At the end of the school day, you leave the classroom, but you don’t leave your community.

This is St. Andrew’s.

J 100% boarding J 319 students J 164 boys, 155 girls J 32 states and 17 countries J 40% students of color all living on a 2200 acre campus

2

We are accessible to all, regardless of means. Since its founding in 1929, St. Andrew’s has offered needbased financial aid to any student who is admitted to the school, providing 100% of a family’s demonstrated need. This approach to financial aid was unprecendented at the time, and our 90 years of socioeconomic diversity fuels our distinctive campus culture of today—a culture centered on kindness, inclusion, and authenticity.

We believe in academic and human excellence.

... and that these two principles are not mutually exclusive. We believe that a high school education should be centered on the joy of asking questions— the joy of exploration, research, and collaboration. We believe that you, the student, are an equal partner in your own learning and in building the culture of our classrooms.

J 90+ courses offered J 50% of classes at the collegiate level J 70 electives J 5:1 student-faculty ratio J 71% of faculty hold advanced degrees

4

What happens between 3:30 and 10:30 p.m. makes all the difference. We learn together and live together—and that fundamentally changes the nature of your high school experience.

After class, you don’t hop on the bus and go home. You are home. From clubs to camping trips, scavenger hunts to swimming, football and Form functions on the Front Lawn to open mic nights in O’Brien—there’s always an adventure waiting. And it all happens without a cell phone in your hand.

5

Be a three-sport athlete. Although specialization is a huge trend in today’s high school athletics, we encourage our student-athletes to pursue a different path—the path of the multi-sport athlete. Playing multiple sports has been proven to better develop agility, balance, speed, and skills across all sports—and also gives our athletes the chance to try new endeavors, connect with new teammates, and discover new avenues to personal growth.

J 59 state tournament appearances in the past decade J 1 in 4 athletes receives All-Conference honors each year J 19 varsity teams have head coaches who were college or professional athletes J 5 of these coaches have also coached at the collegiate level

6

Learn from working artists—even if you’re a total novice. At St. Andrew’s, you’ll work alongside and learn from professional artists in a “master-apprentice system.” Whether you come to campus with years of ballet experience or are trying out painting for the very first time, our community gives intense and genuine support for the artistic efforts of all our students. Saints love to cheer each other on as they try new things.

Each year, our arts program produces: J 4 theatre productions J 4 Orchestra concerts & 4 Jazz Ensemble concerts J 4 dance performances J 4 choral music concerts (not including off-campus performances in concert halls around the country!) Find the best path to your next chapter. The St. Andrew’s college counseling process is centered on two core beliefs. One, your St. Andrew’s experience encompasses much more than your college destination. Two, the most important question you can ask during the college process is how you will contribute to the college or university you attend. Our College Counseling Team utilizes their deep knowledge of our students to work collaboratively with you to chart your course while at St. Andrew’s, and to find your best school fit after St. Andrew’s. They’ll advocate for you, help you tell your story, and walk with you and your family through the increasingly complex application and financial aid process.

... and there’s so much more.
