FESTI VAL O F 1 0 MIN UT E THE AT R E & CABAR E T Townsville: Brisbane: Gold Coast: Gala Finals:

16 Feb - 17 Feb 20 Jun - 30 Jun 4 Jul - 14 Jul 1 Sep

WHAT IS SHORT+SWEET? Now celebrating its seventeenth year worldwide, Short+Sweet is the biggest festival of 10-minute works. Held annually in over a dozen locations around the world, Short+Sweet has already helped launch the careers of countless theatre professionals. Over 300 short plays are produced by Short+Sweet every year, bringing together artists from a variety of backgrounds and making global creative connections. Short+Sweet has been delighting audiences across Queensland for ten years with a diverse program including cutting-edge contemporary, grisly drama, outlandish comedy, sultry song and everything in between. Over 200 Queensland artists will come together to stage 10-minute works of theatre and cabaret in this exciting program. In celebration of our tenth year, we have launched two strands up in the coastal city of Townsville in November 2017. With the remaining five Strands, over 50 new short works will be performed throughout the months of June and July in Brisbane and Gold Coast. Hold on tight as you are rocketed along a roller coaster ride of dramatic pursuits by seeing up to ten plays or ten cabaret acts, each less than ten minutes long. You will get to vote for your favourite acts and send them through to the Gala Finals. A lot can happen in ten minutes‌ and we’re here to prove it!

HOW DOES IT WORK? Artists can apply to be a part of the Short+Sweet Festival in one of the five ways: Writers submit a copy of their 10-minute script for assessment Directors submit a CV for consideration Independent Theatre Company submit a proposal for their 10-minute work Cabaret Artists submit a pitch for their 10-minute cabaret act. Actors register to attend an open audition for all directors and ITCs. From the applications, we then intricately put together an exciting line up of local performance makers to present their work at the festival over seven strands. During each strand, anonymous industry judges will view and assess the performances. Audiences are also given the opportunity to nominate their favourite act and send them through to the Gala Finals. From each strand, two or more works will be selected to present at the Gala Finals. This line up will be performed over two nights at the beginning of September in the Powerhouse Theatre. At the conclusion of the performances, awards will be presented to individuals and groups for recognition of excellence.
